"I'm afraid to try and work our way back to the bar for a drink."
She stood up, and wrapped her arm around his elbow possessively. She looked over his shoulder, and pointed out what it was that she was afraid of. All along the dance floor there were women who had stopped what they were doing to watch what it was that Kain was doing with Flutter.
The empty hungry stares on their faces made Flutter queasy. She could hold her own, but this was an arena of competition that she wasn't comfortable or adept in. She would step away from Kain if someone was so bold as to try to steal him from Flutter for the next dance.
Given how many women looked like they wanted to jump his bones right now, Flutter was sure that she wouldn't see Kain again for the rest of the evening if she let that happen.
"Stay here with me?" she asked in a small voice.

Let You True Colours... Afraid? Afraid of what? Kain need not ask her directly. As his gaze shifted to his sides, he saw the most probable reason. Vultures, lionesses and hyenas on the prowl ready to snap and attack the prey they have been oh so eager to clutch all night. He'd admitted, women could be frightening.... But his attention would be back one hundred percent on Flutter. He was also afraid she might get dragged into a dark alley after those stares and glares.
Of course I'll stay with you.
One of the most probable ways to make these predators give up was if they saw that their prey was already captured. And in Layman's Terms...
Kain turned towards Flutter and pulled her close, to a soft moving dance. Simple, steady, easy to read movements. Looked like a couple slow dancing. That may just very well trample over most of the chances of him getting raped by others. If not provoke it.... Leave it to Lady Faith.
And at that moment in which Kain ad pulled Flutter close, he remembered something very important.
You're....very attractive...
That was supposed to be kept to himself in a low hushed tone. But maybe the distance between them now enabled Flutter to hear it. And a future face palm moment for Kain....Show Thineselves Before Thee.

"So, who was she?"
"....."
Jack was surprisingly strong when he wanted to be.
That was the thought floating through the dj's head at the moment as he looked down into flashing emeralds after that shock of a kiss. The second thought was not to mess with Jack right now, the third... was the observation that Raven had finally pushed Jack far enough in his game of cat and mouse to have gotten that kiss.
Amazingly the smug smirk was kept far from ever reaching his features. A rather dumb look was there instead.
".. uh...." he scratched the back of his neck. How was he supposed to explain her?
"I don't know." which was partially the truth. He couldn't be sure that she was anything to him at all. He only had a suspicion. "I hope to find out."
But now... those two sentences together... well that didn't bode well at all and Raven's cheeks reddened, he could feel them burning.
"Oh shhht-- That's not what I mean!"

On occasion Jack was known to show a little strength. And forwardness. But usually only with a generous amount of alcohol in his system. That was something he had plenty of tonight. He grinned up at the tall blond, far closer than he would normally allow himself to be.
Until Raven spoke. Then his face fell obviously. "You hope to find out...?" His green eyes fell from Raven's face as the blond blushed, assuming it was because he had been caught in the act of attraction, and he stepped away. For a moment his fingers lingered on the DJ's chest. Despite the nature of his words, and Jack's inebriated state not helping him think clearly, he wasn't eager to lose that contact.
He let go finally and crossed the room back to his desk. Carefully he picked up the chair and sat it the right way up, letting his mind wander through the possibilities of what Raven might mean. Seems she did catch his eye after all. He cleared his throat and put the pages of his file back in order on the wooden surface of the desk. "She's cute." he said finally, though he still didn't look up at Raven.

Silently, he berated himself as he watched Jack pick up his chair and file papers, noting how he wouldn't look at him, Raven's gaze fell away from his boss hearing the tone in Jack's voice, not so much the words he spoke. The blond read through that easily enough.
Just another secret Raven kept hidden from Jack, another part of his life he didn't want to expose still for the uncertainty of it. Not to mention having to bring up his past. There was a sobering thought the colour from his cheeks had lessened.
"Hn..." he grumbled, "I know what you are thinking and it's not like that." he didn't look up from where his gaze was glued to the floor his hands shoved in his pockets as he leaned against the wall behind him, next to the closed door where Jack had left him.

Jack listened to him. Though he was not sure what he meant. It wasn't like that? Well what the Hell was it then? He sighed to himself, setting the papers out and turning them.
He looked up at Raven. The way he gazed at the floor with his hands in his pockets was both endearing and amusing, like a little boy caught stealing cookies. Jack's features softened. He couldn't stay upset at Raven. Not like this. He smiled to himself and then hid his grin, looking back down at the desk.
"Take a seat, Raven. We should get down to business, see what I called you up here for." he said as seriously as he could despite his smile. He waved at a couple of chairs set in front of the desk. "Would you like a drink?" he offered. Raven knew he kept a few special bottles he particularly enjoyed in his office.

Business huh?
Turquoise orbs slid over to Jack and the papers that littered his desk moving away from the wall he approached and took one of the seats as indicated. "No thanks." he replied to the offer of a drink, best not to further indulge if they were discussing business. He liked being sharper than he was currently when it came to these things.
"Are profits sliding?" he questioned, it was usually one of his main concerns, although give and take a bit the Den usually did fairly well.

Jack actually chuckled a little when Raven questioned the profits. He shook his head and looked up, smiling a bit as he took a seat. "You know better than that. And after your little stunt tonight no doubt we'll have a boom during the next month." Jack grinned. Now they'd have to pull out tricks like that sometimes just to keep people interested.
"No, this is business of a different kind. Something I've been... working on." He frowned a little and plucked a pen out of a holder, twirling it between his fingers almost nervously. He stared at the papers for a long, silent moment. Just long enough to be a little awkward actually.
"I've actually been thinking of taking a partner for the business. Someone specific I mean." He said finally. He rifled through the papers again, though he knew each one word for word by now. "Someone trustworthy. Someone who I know would have the business's best interests as his priority. Someone who I know would take care of things if I ever had to go away again. So of course I wanted to talk to you about the idea before I go around making announcements or anything. What do you think?" He looked up at Raven, cheeks a bit pink.

"Oh.." the blond was glad the profits were doing well, that meant things were still generally ok, he was about to ask if there was a staffing problem when Jack came out with what he'd been working on.
"Oh? Well.. who did you have in mind?" he asked dumbly, "I don't know why'd you'd consult me on this sort of thing, I'm just a dj.... you can do what you want to do with the business, it's yours after all." he offered as helpfully as possible. "If you think it'll help the Den, then that's a great thing for all the staff right?"

Jack stared at the DJ. And then he laughed. Small giggles turning into the wild laughter of a night's drinking when even the silliest things are just the funniest thing ever. It took him a little while to settle down again, shaking his head and rubbing moisture from his eyes.
"Oh Raven! Sometimes you're just adorable." He giggled. He leaned over the desk, standing up and leaning on his elbows on the wood. He pointed out a line or two of the paperwork and looked up at the handsome blond with a smile. His fingers traced Raven's name on the paper.
"Who else do you think I would trust with the Den?"

The blond blinked and looked to the paperwork where Jack pointed. His eyes widened in realization.
He paused a long moment, thinking with an alcohol induced brain wasn't one of his strong points.
"Can I take a couple days to think it over?" Turquoise orbs searched for emeralds. He tapped his knuckles to the side of his head, "There's details I'm missing and now, I'm a bit drunk." he said honestly and chuckled, "reading the paperwork will probably give me a headache with swimming letters." he laughed again and settled, smiling.
"Although.. I'm surprised and happy you'd offer such a thing to me of all people. Can I look over the paperwork while I make up my mind?"

Jack grinned as Raven realised just what the little redhead intended. He nodded in response to his question. "Course." He smiled. "I don't expect an answer tonight, even if we were sober. Just tonight's the first night I've had the guts to show you." He blushed, his cheeks tinted pink with the mixture of shyness and alcohol in his system. He pulled out a second file and dropped it in front of him.
"Your copy. Take the time you need. You can be a silent partner if you like, so the others don't know. Or I can put your name above the door next to mine." He grinned bashfully. He didn't know why he was so nervous about it. It was a business deal, not a wedding proposal after all. All the same there were butterflies in Jack's stomach.
Or vodka.
Maybe a bit of both.
"Why are you surprised? Out of all the people with the business you've been here longer than anyone practically. And you know more about it than you let on. There isn't a better person for the job I can think of. And if anything happened to me... I don't want any remaining scraps of the Boss's group getting hold of the Den." He sighed solemnly. That thought worried him. There might be a few stragglers just waiting to take everything away from him.

"Hm.. I can see your point. I'll think about it, the silent partner bit sounds good. The Den is really yours Jack, I'd like for it to stay that way as much as possible. But only when it comes down to looking at it that way... well ... I'll look over the papers and keep that in mind. I'm sure the staff wouldn't like being bothered by any of them either." he grumbled knowing how much a pain in the arse dealings with them had been in the past.
"Well how about another drink then?" he smirked now that he knew he wasn't being fired or anything drastic like that was happening. Hopefully the conversation would stay happily pleasant. "And this place is so... uhm... why don't we go back to my room?" he suggested at least there was more of a homey environment there to enjoy rather than files and sobering furniture, "I can put my copy somewhere safe then." he diverted.

Jack nodded, smiling widely as Raven agreed to consider it. He squealed and practically threw himself over the desk to wrap his arms around the other man's shoulders. He really was quite excitable when he was so cheerfully drunk. "I knew you'd understand. Oh I hope you say yes!" He giggled, squirming around a bit to sit on the edge of the desk and smile.
"That is a most excellent idea. Another drink! You're so smart. See why I want you?" Jack laughed, grabbing up Raven's hand and tugging him towards the door enthusiastically. His grip slipped and he fell backwards on his rump with a peal of laughter. "Whoops." He giggled.

Whew!
Raven silently breathed a huge sigh of relief. Jack laughing meant things were good. Better than good.
And the blond couldn't help but laugh and offer his own hand to help Jack up shaking his head amused. "Now I'm going to have to check you over to make sure you haven't been hurt." he chuckled slipping his arm around the little red head's waist and guided him down the hall to his room where he unlocked the door, let it swing inward, passed through the doorway with Jack, seating him down on the couch carefully - exaggerating the care even, laughing and letting the door swing shut behind them and went over to his kitchenette.
Once there he pulled a couple clean glasses from the cupboards above threw in ice in one and asked Jack, "What'll you have sir? No-no. Don't get up. I'll bring it right over." he chuckled with a wink and grin even.
