Seth looked at the ground. "But why? Nothing happened except for the storm" he stated finishing off his apple. He pondered over the reason that Femi had offered up. 'Could something of happened after we had fled?' he thought to himself. He sighed.

Frowning Femi looked back down at her pomegrante and happily noticed it was open now, popping a few of the seeds into her mouth. "Well, maybe they think something happened. That storm would've looked pretty strange, right Master?" She asked him, looking back up at him and smiling. Blushing suddenly she looked back down at the pomegrante and fiddled with it nervously before continuing to eat the seeds. 'What an odd thought that was...' She thought to herself, but regardless she scooted slightly closer and held the pomegrante out. "D-do you want some?" Femi asked, clearly nervous for reasons known only to herself.

"FEMI!" Someone yelled, making her jump slightly. "Sister!" Yet another voice yelled, both of them extreamly familair. "Umi, Nuru?" She questioned, looking away from Seth, visably paling as not one, not two, but three of her brothers grew nearer. "Sorry, Femi." Umi apologized quickly, laughing slightly at her as she narrowed her eyes at him. "Mmhmm..." She hummed annoyedly. "Nuru, Adjo, what's going on?" She asked, turning her attention away from her younger brother and onto the two older ones. "Kahotep wanted us to come find you, the chores have kind of stacked up..." Nuru explained, grinning brightly at her in a rather michevious sounbding voice, suggesting that wasn't exactly why they were there.

Frowning once again Femi sighed and stood up, turning to bow towards Seth. "Sorry Master Seth, it seems like my brothers were a bit too dense to take care of the house alone... I'll see you tommorrow, right?" She asked, looking back up at him and straight into his hood, hoping she'd managed to find his eyes, and pleading with her own that he agree. Unfortunately she didn't get to hear an answer, because she got grabbed by the arm by Nuru and then bascially dragged down the street, luckily though she managed to hold onto her fruit.

Aleks stared at the newcomers, dumbfounded as the man began to speak. At first, it seemed obvious to Aleks that the man was speaking in more than a single language, though he couldn't fathom why. Maybe he was greeting them, trying to figure out what language they spoke? And it suddenly seemed suspiciously convenient to Aleks that linguistics was his major, and here they were on an adventure that seemed to focus a lot on languages. Arabic. Latin. And now - the hell?

"Was that Old English?" he murmured out loud, staring at the stranger. What the hell was going on, as if he hadn't asked that enough already? Latin. Old English. What was next? Klingon? Hylian? Chakobsa - the Atreides Battle Tongue? He'd be out of luck if people started spouting that off at him.

Before he knew what he was doing, though, he placed his right arm across his chest and went to his knees before the godlike stranger. Something in him told him that this was not a man to be trifled with. He glanced sideways at the others and raised his eyebrows as if to say, "I'm not doing this for my health, you know."

If Hala saw the gesture, she was much too far gone to notice, quietly repeating a prayer to herself in Arabic and pulling her veil closer around her shoulders, trying vainly to ignore her surroundings. Her mind was still arguing on the wrong side of reality, it was all just too much to bear - suddenly being thrown from her own front porch, out of her entire life by a freak sandstorm into what could only have been a foreign country, only this desert was so very like Egypt, her Egypt, that it felt even more unsettling. And now there were new, armed, half-naked strangers acting like Ancient Egyptians. It simply was too much.

She pressed a sleeve to her mouth to muffle a tiny, terrified squeak of a scream as the guards lowered their spears, advancing around the sides of the little gathering to herd them into the center. She slowly backed away, not really realizing as she drifted back towards the man standing between them and the guards. Maybe it was because he seemed to be protecting them, or maybe because he had been the only one that hadn't tried to associate with the frightening strangers, or maybe it was simply by chance. Either way, she had no idea where she was headed until she bumped right into him, startling herself badly. She stammered out an apology and took a step away, shivering.

[Couldnt tell if she bumped into me or not; if it was Amenophis who got bumped into, i'll comment about it in my next post. sweatdrop heh this is what happends when you dont sleep well, your reading slips alittle ]

He found himself almost at a loss of words, All this was happending to quickly for himself. First, the strange clothing, the odd girl who's wits were cornered by fear, and yet a girl who knew the language was tossed amongst them. This was just to convient, he waved his hands towards his gaurds as they lowered their spears and stood in a perfect posture.

He looked to the only two people to bow in his presence, and all he could do was laugh. He personally had never been thrown in this type of situation before, where half the people looked lost and bewildered. He looked towards Karah and spoke gently, "Please rise, for now lets consider me a man of equal stature. Whatever is going on right now, is clearly not normal. Besides, " he leaned forward to attempt to get a better look at her, " It appears you've gained these people's trust or rather, been around them just alittle longer. I will pay you handsomely if you help me get these people to my Palace. I may be royalty, and some customs may need to be done to keep order in check, however I am not so stuck on the old ways to not offer a helping hand to those who appear lost."

He thought to himself privately, These people are strange and my curiousity is peaking. I need to know why they are here, and why they seem so lost mentally. Its as if they are fragile, infants struggling to understand.

He did eye the male, (Ikken's character) and thought, this one doesnt seem as lost as the others, and prehaps this is something that may be able to be play upon.

((( No, she bumped into Jack, if I read correctly. No worries. )))

Jack stared intently at the guards as they surrounded the group, his eyes narrowing hatefully. Was the action necessary? Did they really look so dangerous? Jack had a feeling that this man was powerful and he enjoyed it. The fact that the new woman bowed to him only made him feel more uncomfortable.

Jack was still carefully watching the tips of the spears as they circled around when suddenly one of the women ran into him. He jumped slightly in surprise; thinking at first one of the guards had come at him. He sighed in relief when he saw it was only one of the people he felt the strange connection too. She was backing away and stammering out a weak apology, shaking as she did. Jack couldn’t help but feel sorry for the young woman; out of all of them she was taking this situation the worst. He reached out a hand slowly and placed it on her shoulder to steady and comfort her. “Be still,” he muttered, and his voice lost much of its edge, “It will be alright.” He only hopped that the woman understood English enough to get what he was saying.

Jack let go of her and turned away to face the guards again. He didn’t like feeling to helpless and exposed. His hand clenched involuntarily into fists as the other man in the group, Aleks, bowed as well. There was no way Jack would lower himself so much. This man may think himself a king or God, but he wouldn’t get any worshiping out of Jack.

Karah straightened herself and grinned. "It is not often that I get paid to help someone. But, even if I have gained their trust they do not understand me." she stated inclining her head to the side. "I only know the local tongue and my own." she explained shrugging. She looked at the group she had run into. Some were in shock while the others were appearing to remain level headed. "But I would think it wise that we acclimate these people to your culture before you cause them anymore shock" she suggested casually.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 23, 2008 4:48 pm

He shed a soft smile and then nodded as his eyes shifted to each individual and then back upon Karah. He looked upon her and for some odd reason found her fascinating, and yet he chuckled innerly at the notion. He clapped his hands once together as his gaurds proceeded to return to his side, with their spears lowered at their sides. He then spoke softly to Karah again.

"Agreed," he showed empty hands to Karah, this time showing that he wanted to be friends more then anything. He was lonely after all, having people blindly worship him because his father was a ruler. He figured he'd do somethign unexpected and put himself out their alittle.

He looked to the strangers as he lowered his hands, and then brought them up once more. This time he waved them to come forward, and he then turned partially towards the city and pointed at the Large palace at the far back of it.

He then pointed to himself and said his name, "Amenophis." He hoped they understood enough that he was Amenophis, and he wanted them to follow. To make sure they caught on, he waved them forward as he backed up slowly, towards the City. (He was facing them still, with his back facing the city as he backed up).

((Yeah, it was Jack, sorry for the confusion sweatdrop I didn't include his name because Hala doesn't know it yet.))

Hala seemed to relax a little at the comforting words, odd though they were coming from the silent not-quite-stranger. She offered a shaky but grateful smile in return, and stopped shivering, mostly. "I just d-don't see how we're going to get b-back...If that's not Luxor..." She trailed off uneasily. Her english was intact enough still, though rather heavily accented. Though she was able to hold still now, her eyes kept darting back and forth between the guards and their leader, instinctively looking for a way out, like a cornered animal.

She let out a sigh of relief as the armed guards returned back to their leader instead of circling in any further, and she slowly tried to get a hold of herself, counting under her breath, then reciting prayers again when she ran out of numbers, anything to keep her mind off the maddening certainty that they were, indeed, in an Egypt that could only have existed more than a thousand years ago.

Throughout the guards pointing spears at them, the odd bowing between the strange, but not as strange as the army and their leader, girl and Aleks, Nadira had remained almost calm; she wasn't exactly new to the experience of having sharp weapons pointed at her and she figured if that girl and Aleks wanted to bow they could go ahead and bow all they wanted; they'd have to kill her before she lowered herself to anyone. Still, she was strangely cold despite the heat and her skin was starting to get covered in a cold sweat. Shivering slightly she watched Hala's little freak out moment, wanting to help but rather reluctant to stop staring the odd man down.

It was annoying he'd ignored her question of this being Khemet, she didn't like being ignored in the least bit, and she didn't understand the offering of the water; of course they were thirsty, but why would they take water from someone who had them at spear point? And now here he was motioning around like they were children, maybe they didn't speak his language. but Nadira had always hated it when people spoke like that; it reminded her of the idiot American's she sometimes ran into who spoke loudly and slowly to her like she was mentally not all there. ((^^;; This comment makes me giggle...))

Despite how cold she was she turned to glance at her new companions, unwilling to call them friends but willing enough to not try to fight off the strange emotions anymore; she was becoming rather mentally tired of being a paradox and decided that she would let whatever strangess that was being worked run it's course until she could get away from them and then have her own freak out moment. Smirking slightly Nadira motioned towards the man, she was pretty sure he'd called himself Amenophis, and chuckled lightly. "Tell me I am not the only one who hopes that he trips and falls backwards after what he just did to us." She said in English, smiling rather evilly as she turned to follow after Amenophis.

((I typed this post up yesterday, but my internet went down. But I'm posting it anyway. xd ))

Aleks had intended to keep his eyes on the sand - he didn't know where he was, but he recognized important people when he saw them - but when the man began to speak again, he forgot himself and turned his eyes upward. What language was the man speaking now? It sounded familiar, but for once, it was not a language he'd ever studied. Was it some African tongue? Damn. He'd never gotten around to studying Swahili, not even enough to recognize it. In retrospect, that might have been a good idea. Of course, this might not even be Swahili. In fact, given where they were, it probably wasn't. The man's clothing suggested they had traveled more than mere distance to get here. But...

He noticed the man's eyes on him, and a calculating thought passed behind the man's eyes. Aleks went stark white and dropped his eyes to the sand again.

What was that supposed to mean? Aleks didn't warrant any extra consideration. He was nothing special. Bad enough he was lost in a foreign country, he didn't need haughty strangers acting as if he was anybody worth mentioning. He didn't want to be worth mentioning. He wanted to be so unmemorable that nobody here would object to his leaving... that is, if he did manage to figure out what road would take him home.

His eyes straying upward again as he forgot why he was looking at the sand, he thought to himself: If there is such a road.

((And here's where I stopped. But I have more to say now. xd ))

Aleks rose slowly and glanced back at the others, making sure there was at least one person in front of him before he, too, began to follow. His collected disposition shattered, though, at Nadira's joke, and he let out a short, sudden laugh, then quickly swallowed it, not wanting to offend. Maybe the man didn't speak their language, but any idiot would know when he was being made fun of.

Hala began to trail along after them, reluctant to follow the soldiers too closely, but something instinctive kept her from straying too far from her strange companions. It was a connection, she sensed now, tugging at her to follow as they began to move away. She still didn't bother to think much of it though, instead picturing the regal figure suddenly tripping over a rock and sprawling backward into the sand. She couldn't quite stifle a little chuckle at Nadira's remark, but the tiny laugh was markedly less hysterical this time, almost normal, her agreement betrayed by a somewhat mischievous half-smile. At least we're moving now, we'll get to the city soon... it can't get much worse than this, at least.

Hala stared out toward the city shimmering on the horizon, watching as it began to grow very, very slowly. She began to catalog their situation as they plodded along, leaving a longer and longer trail of foot-sized wells in the sand behind them. The quiet rhythm of walking was soothing, and erased the trapped feeling of standing still, surrounded by foreign strangers. Soon she was calm enough to look around without her mind jibbering blindly with terror, and even to examine the strange soldiers leading them back to the city.

Ancient Egypt, hm? Without really even deciding to suspend her disbelief for a moment, Hala mentally began comparing their dress with the memories of countless inscriptions and tomb paintings she had seen, mostly in pictures, but a few in person. The spears meant they were warriors, clearly. The golden ornaments on the man in the center meant something, she was sure, but couldn't remember what. Wearing the head of Anubis was a ceremonial honor, reserved for the most important religious processions, and for guards of the highest station. Her eyes widened slightly. Assuming they were in Ancient Egypt... She shuddered slightly, then this person... (Amenophis, her mind quietly filled in) was someone very important indeed... The amused half-smile was quickly wiped off her face and replaced by an uneasy look. The entire idea of these strangers dressing up in some elaborate charade didn't fit, not at all. Just what would they find when they got to that city...?

Jack felt relieved that they were at least moving now. He was already cursing his unfit wardrobe; his heavy black clothes were starting to cling to his skin and a constant stream of sweat seemed to be trickling down his brow. The sooner they got under the cover of shade, the better. Pulling the rough hood of the jacket further over his eyes, Jack fell in step with the others.

Somewhere close behind one of the women made a joke. Though no laughter escaped him, a mocking sneer tugged at the edge of his lips. He could just imagine the rage Amenophis would feel if such embarrassment befell him. It would surely be a site to see.

Jack’s smile faded as his mind slipped away, just like it always did. His eyes fell to the sand, making his posture more hunched as he walked. It was improper, something in the back of his mind told him, but it was too hot and he hadn’t been in the rich crowd long enough to care anyway. He watched as his polished shoes struck the hot, pale sand. It looked the same as the sand of his dessert home, but somehow he felt that it was different.

Where am I?’ he asked himself. ‘Why am I here?

Jack cast his eyes upwards now, gazing at the bright blue sky. There wasn’t a cloud in site today, which was common enough. And yes, he confirmed, the sky still looked like the sky he knew, and yet that same feeling that it was different clung to his thoughts. Now his eyes flew to the strange Amenphis and his guards. Their dress screamed of ancient times and ancient power. The city beyond reflected all the same qualities of everything else he had observed: Different somehow. Old.
Jack frowned as his mind settled on one unpleasant thought; that he was no longer home, no longer in the time or place that reality said he should be. He had long left Luxor, and whatever his past had prepared him for, it wasn’t this.

The sun was an unforgiving beast. Jack was yanked from his disagreeable thoughts for something he felt was much, much more distressing to his immediate health. Sweat covered his whole face now, despite how fervently he tried to wipe it off. The words “sun stroke” started to haunt him. Despite the cover it was giving his eyes and the insulation it provided, Jack quickly stripped off his jacket. He threw it over his shoulder and continued on, keeping his sensitive eyes downcast to stay as comfortable as was humanly possible out in the radiating heat. Next time planned a trip to the dessert, he told himself, he would wear considerably less.

((My humblest apologies for the solamente-OOC post, but I have a few questions.

1: Considering that this is BC, I believe that means we are quiet literally in Biblical times. Where precisely in Biblical times are we? I can probably figure this out myself, but if anyone knows off the top of their head, that'd be fabulous.

2: Can we bring, perhaps, other spiritual/supernatural elements into this RP, in addition to whatever strange power brought them here and connected them? Because with the Dune vibe I've been putting into my character's perception, I think I could really make him crazy (and I love crazy characters) if I gave him a tidbit of some vaguely Dune-esque power.

EDIT: Meh. I've looked it up, and we're around the year 2061, since it was stated that it's near the end of Intef's reign. Which means we're wayyyyy far back, even by Biblical standards. Like, we're in the middle of Genesis. (If you aren't familiar with the Bible or don't have it on hand, don't worry about what I'm saying; it's not terribly important.) Abraham is alive and is about 105 years old, but Isaac hasn't been born yet. Of course, when Aleks realizes what time period they are in, he's going to insist on meeting Abraham before they go back. xd ))
