Terrie tried to stay awake, but there were so many wonderful lures. The warm glow of the fire, the blanket of silence, the steady breath and faint but strong heartbeat of the body she was curled up against. She would twitch halfawake every once in a while by habit and look around for danger. And every time she realized she was someplace safe, she would cling thankfully to Emris' arm, which she never dropped the entire night.

Blinking his eyes, Emris woke up from his peaceful slumber with a start. "Hmm?" He whispered softly before nearly jumping back in shock. Had him and Terrie both dozed off before the fire last night? It appeared so...
Tenderly the foxtaur brushed some of Terrie's hair back and then carefully moved Terrie's arm before silently standing. "Is it morning already?" He asked himself softly with a stretch. For a several moments he stood there and gazed at Terrie with a warm smile. Nothing right now could make him want to lose the memory of meeting her.
Still not wishing to wake Terrie, Emris moved quickly out of the room and headed for the kitchen. His stomach rumbled at the thought of getting some breakfast.

After a night of fitful wakings and dreamless sleep, Terrie woke lazily. She pulled the blanket closer and rolled over before her eyes popped wide open and she sat up with a silent gasp. It was light out! She had overslept! She jumped up before she realized where she was. Her heart calmed as she remembered. She was in a house. She didn't need to sneak out, or fear being kicked out. She looked at the now cool ashes of the fire and began to blush. She'd fallen asleep on him! Speaking of 'him,' where was he? She patted her hair and fur smooth before poking her head out the hall. "Emris?" She called softly, a small catch in her voice, almost afraid he wouldn't be there to answer.

Humming softly to himself Emris busied himself in the kitchen while Terrie was still sleeping. The wooden shutters on his wide kitchen window allowed the bright rays of morning sun to enter the kitchen, warming everything in sight. "There." The foxtaur picked up one of the biscuits and took a bite before even hearing Terrie's call.
Having food in his mouth made Emris slow to reply however. Finally after taking several gulps and a quick drink of water, Emris replied with a friendly yell down the hallway. "In here!"

A sense of sadness crawled up her spine. She'd thought she'd heard him, but then it was quiet. She was just hearing things. She wanted to hide under the bed until she heard Emris call down the hall. Those two words sent a thrill through her and she resisted the urge to actually run down to the kitchen. "Good morning." She said happily, padding softly into the warm room. "My... this feels good." She said, talking more to herself than Emris. After getting lost in thought for a few seconds, she turned back toward Emris. "Did you sleep well?" She snickered and looked bashfully away. "Sorry for falling asleep on you."

Putting the small basket containing some more biscuits on the table Emris heard Terrie enter the room. Looking over his shoulder, the foxtaur replied. "I slept decently." Then he couldn't help but to chuckle as well, "It's okay...apparently I can now become a pillow at need."
Still smiling teasingly, Emris tried to become serious again. "What about you, Terrie? Did you sleep any good last night?" He asked while opening a fresh jar of blackberry jam. Giving the jar a small smack, he finally opened the lid. "There!" He smiled sheepishly and placed the small knife in the jar before looking back at Terrie.

Terrie smiled and nodded. He had been a very nice pillow... She paused when the question was returned to her. "As well as ever, I think. At least I was warm and comfortable." Despite her habitual waking every hour or so, she felt like her sleep had indeed been better than usual. Emris would probably never know what it had been like for her to have him beside her as they slept. "Breakfast?" She asked hopefully, plucking up a biscuit and smelling it, making her mouth water.

"That's good." Replied Emris stretching once more. Still he wondered about what 'as well as ever' meant. Did she not usually sleep well or something? Watching Terrie, the foxtaur smiled and nodded.
"Yup, breakfast. Biscuits and some jam with water." He chuckled softly, "A small choice of food but what I hope is okay."

Terrie shook her head. "No. It smells lovely. Small isn't so bad." She sat down and took a small scoop of jam. It'd been so long since she'd had a biscuit with jelly. Not since she'd lived with the old man. She ate slowly, savoring every bite. "So what are we doing today?"

Leaning on the table, Emris looked about in a quiet thoughtfulness. Finally looking back to Terrie, he answered. "Since it looks like a nice clear warm day..how about going to the area for your house and clear up some of the weeds there? Then maybe get some measurements so we have a good guess at how much wood and stone is needed...."
After a couple moments of silence, Emris smiled faintly at Terrie. "Does that sound okay?"

Terrie nodded as she chewed. "Sounds like a plan." She didn't mind a bit of hard work. "I'll be happy to see that tree again." She said with a sigh. Besides it being a lovely tree, she would remember from there which way her bag of stuff was buried. "I think I left the papers in here somewhere." She said, looking around the kitchen for that notebook of houses.

Finishing off another biscuit, Emris grinned at Terrie. "Okay, then!" He chuckled before moving about the kitchen to look. "So you left them in here?" He asked moving a notebook of blank pages aside. "I'm sure it'll be easy to find." He walked towards the doorway and looked back at Terrie. "Do you see it anywhere?"

Terrie fixed up one more biscuit with jam for the road, and started giggling. "Yeah, I see it." She laughed bashfully, picking the book up from the table edge, right in front of her, and getting up to follow Emris. "Off we go." She said cheerily, even though something was making her feel a little sad inside. "Do you have what you need for the, umm... measurements?"

"Oh." Feeling a bit sheepish, Emris nodded at Terrie. Next to the door was the small pack of things he had put together in a haste while she had been sleeping. "I have everything...or so I hope." He chuckled softly. "No worries there."

Nibbling on the buscuit, Terrie stood out in the lawn enjoying the view. The still low sun resting on top of the tree line and the long shadows it created. The sounds of birds and a gentle breeze still cool from the night. "Well, if you did forget anything, the land isn't too far away." She tilted her head. "Or, it didn't seem like very far yesterday."
