VerandiDarkstar I know the feeling. sweatdrop I kept wanting to hug him or at least hold his hand or something through all of Down Once More. When he was "little Erik", I wanted to break him out of there and take him home. ~.~;;;;;;; Ah well. You can tell it is a good movie/story because of how personal it feels. Every time he cried, I felt a lump in my throat. I probably would've cried if I was alone. sweatdrop But when he had the rose on the roof of the Opera... eek Make it stop! Well...Gerard Butler was good at crying, we can say that safely.

He is good at crying crying Really, it was the most convincing and heart wrenching bit of male crying that I have ever seen in a movie. It was an artful crying. I beleived it. It wasn't overdramatic, it was played to exactly how he was feeling. Just sort of crushed and unbelieving. Its heartbreaking to watch him do it, but it is the good kind of heartbreaking, the kind that its so good, you're glad to see. crying

I have finally seen the film! heart
How'd I feel about the film? Unbiasedly I liked it, it's a good musical film. Biasedly in my rabid phandomness- I LOVED IT. I cried. I'm not a sissy, I just love the character of Erik so much. I cried when I read the book, I cried when I heard the musical all the way through and I have now cried when I saw it all the way through. When I see it on stage this summer I'll most likely cry then too. My Favorite scenes where Notes/Prima Donna, Il Muto, and Down once more to the End. Past the Point of No Reaturn is cool beans too. Hell; I love the whole film. But I'm a musical lover in the first place and have been obsessed with the Phantom for years- I couldn't not love it. It makes me go sqwee!
I love how the Phantom adjusts his Wig before going to Don Juan. whee
I also love Ceaser's Cameo, t'was sweet.
My only problem with the film was the lip sync seemed off through the first part of the film. During Music of the Night and on it was fine though. The director did a No no for musicals, having characters sing while walking and paning with the camera at the same time. It just doesn't work. Raoul Walking around singing just doesn't look right or very good. That was really the only technical thing that bothered me. A few non technical things did, but they are all minor things a non-phan wouldn't even take into consideration.

I thought I was going to die when the movie started. Guys, the preview made me burst into tears. The movie stopped my heart. I was in awe. Then I went back and saw it a couple more times. Now, (I'd still saw off my arm if Erik asked me to.) but I noticed one or two things. The chandelier. They moved when it falls. I was waiting for it at the end of Eriks song, waiting for that uber climax, then the music died down and things went on. What? My other problem with the chandelier. Why didn't it freakin fall! That was the one problem I ever had with the play, but it was understandable because I didn't want to die. eek But this is a movie! I want to see that chandelier actually squash some people! It just did the same swing-onto-the-stage thing it always does in the play. Finally, they converted the singing lines to talking lines! Why? I don't understand the purpose of that. I'm trying to sing along (yes, I'm weird like that. xp ) and they start talking!
Ok. I'm done with my little rant. Sorry, I really am just an incredibly obbsessed phan. Oh, and this is my first post here so, Hi you guys! xd

I thought the talking was an interesting addition because it allowed some contrast between what was being sung and what was being spoken. I also liked that sometimes, the singing was INSIDE THEIR MINDS. I tribute the singing aspect in voice/thught to beng something of extreme emotional importance, whereas speaking was just sort of "I did this today".
I also love the shot wher eErik fixes his wig. wink

I also loved the little scene where the camera goes down through the floor during "Think of Me" and we see Erik on the shore of the underground lake. I kept wanting him to look up.

I'm soooooo glad you saw it ^^ (anyone heard of a movie called Flawless, it's a Schumacher film with DeNiro in it. Is it any good?)

Oh, and this is my first post here so, Hi you guys! xd Ah! Thank you! I'm not the only one that's bugged by the speaking instead of song thing! You know what bugs me the most? When they go "He's here, the Phantom of the Opera". Whenever they say it (in the movie) they always speak. They NEVER sing it. And it just throws me off so much every time I hear it. domokun But on another hand, even though it bugs me to no end, I agree with Verandi. It's good that they didn't always sing everything. They made it feel more...I dunno, realistic? The people were at least talking instead of always singing -which is more unreal. Because I don't think we all go around and sing everything every waking hour of our days, do we? So yeah. whee I don't like it, yet I do.

Is...that just me then..? sweatdrop Also, did anyone notice that (in Twisted Every Way, especially) Emmy Rossom's chest really, for lack of a better word, deflates when she is singing? In T.E.W., the fabric of her dress stays stiff, so you can see her chest getting farther and farther back, and then you can see when she takes a breath, and it gets normal again. Not that that's a bad thing, or anything. Just, fourth time seeing the movie and you start to notice things...
