Satisfied with the current state of his body, Kane debated on whether to put on hair gel to cake his hair in place, but ultimately decided not to to make his hair seem more natural. This was all for fun anyway. It wasn't like he expected this to last! Cheerfully he headed back to his room, humming a tune from some past memory.
Waiting for him was a massive wardrobe choice. Kane owned quite a few shirts and shorts and other articles of clothing, but then again he had to be mindful of the mission today and dress appropriately. Throwing open the doors of his wardrobe he surveyed the items of clothing sceptically. Pants first since he had so many shirts he could match any shirt he wanted later. Might as well pack now, actually... Kane wasn't too hungry so he could finish off everything he needed to do upstairs before heading down to find or make some breakfast. Hanabira was probably up, but he wondered about Kazuma... anyway, Kane grabbed his mission pack that had accompanied him on his two previous missions and the chuunin exam tournament... all of which hadn't gone too well actually. Kane hoped that this mission would go fine this time, or at least not as badly as his previous shindigs. Death or mental scarring wasn't something he would wish on himself or the rest of his mission mates.

On a more positive note, that pair of black and grey khaki pants looked quite nice today, and black could match with pretty much any colour. The black also emphasised his blonde hair which was always a good thing. Kane extracted the pants from the closet and laid them out flat on his bed before grabbing another pair of good-looking pants and dumping it into what would be a pile of clothes for change during the mission. He then started to flick through the mass of hangers holding all his tops, and there were many of all styles - yukata, kimono, dress shirt, T-shirt, even polo shirts, which Kane didn't wear all that often and hadn't seen many others wear often either, but that hadn't stopped him from acquiring a few in that style nonetheless. Bright colours were his preferred way to go and so Kane selected a few T-shirts that would create a good (albeit second-rate) combination in his opinion, and they went in the pile. But for today... Kane was looking for something that wouldn't stand out too much but yet would go well with anybody who looked at him. Blue to match his eyes would be a terrible choice since well, that was such a cliched choice and would make him look a bit too boring, even after he was spruced up with his cool ninja gear like kunai holster and shuriken pouches. And his dao sling across his back. Which were all black.

Kane's eye flickered across the wardrobe again and landed temporarily on an orange shirt. But while the image was appealing... orange plus black, with black complements in the form of straps and belts... There had been an orange and black fad a while back, associated with some kind of festival, and while Kane didn't have any experiences involving that festival he felt that maybe he might be overdoing the combination and emulating the festival and since he was unfamiliar with it, better not. Still, it was a much better combo that that pink shirt he'd cast into the pile just now. Kane quickly switched the two.
Yellow would be an absolute no since he would end up looking like a bumblebee and even though bee stings hurt quite a bit Kane didn't think that as a bee he would be intimidating enough for any enemy. Quite the opposite, in fact. Red and black was too overdone and now Kane was seriously beginning to reconsider the whole 'black matched with everything' mantra. Well, he could always go in a white shirt if the whole colour thing failed to work out this morning.
...actually, that wouldn't be too bad. Fishing out a white shirt with an edgy street design that was all the rage among civilians nowadays, Kane slipped it on easily and changed his pants as well before surveying himself in the full length mirror. He didn't look too bad at all. The T-shirt wasn't too form-fitting but it wasn't loose either. Like all of Kane's other clothes (except the scrap ones) it covered his form just right to highlight his nice bits (those broad shoulders were really being played up to their full potential here) and hide his less attractive parts (Kane was sure that he need to do more crunches since he barely had a 6-pack). Quickly folding up his clothes and putting them into his pack, Kane threw a whole slew of other things such as extra shuriken, lip balm, a brush and a cloth to wipe himself up with in case he ever got dirty into his back before heading downstairs.

Slinging his pack over his back, Kane headed down quietly in case Kazuma was still asleep. Which he shouldn't be, considering the fact that he had a mission today, but Kane was willing to give him a little slack since Hanabira seemed to like him. And yesterday had been a tiring day. Mostly because of Kazuma. Oh well...
Thinking about Kazuma naturally led him to think about Tanu. The girl's apartment had been destroyed yesterday and it was a wonder that she did not hold an eternal grudge against Hanabira for that. Still, there was something between her and Kazuma - a disdain, or maybe even hatred? Kane certainly didn't hope so. Intra-familial hatred was always a messy business but usually didn't last in the end. Hopefully Tanu and Kazuma would be a typical case and that when it truly mattered, they would work together. Otherwise this mission would be messy... Well, Kane mused, at least Kiba and Hanabira would be there to cool both Kun'Kumos down if things got too hot, excuse the pun.

Kane was still musing on these things when he saw Hanabira studying at the table. Looking to where he'd seen Kazuma the night before, he raised an eyebrow at the lump slowly rising and falling there. So Kazuma was still asleep... well, Kane supposed, he supposed more rest would be better for later on. "Ohayou, Hana-chan," he greeted her with a cheerful smile, feeling good about himself after his personal care routine. The fact that he looked better than usual, when he just slipped on whatever clothes he saw first in the morning, also helped a lot. "Have you had breakfast yet?" he asked her, putting his pack on the counter and looking over at what she was doing. Then recoiling (slowly) after he saw that she was writing in her diary. Hey, Kane couldn't help it: like most other people would be he was curious. He already knew a lot about Hanabira, after having lived with her for quite a few years, but realised that he knew next to nothing about her in combat. How would she react in battle? What was her style anyway, something more concrete and specific than 'long-ranged'? Kiba was swords and Tanu was taijutsu. And maybe Fire jutsu since he'd heard that the Kun'Kumo specialised int hose. Kane would probably be learning more about Kun'Kumos later on once they reached their village, but for now...
"Hana-chan, I'm going to cook breakfast," he said to her. "Want to help? He needs food too after all, when he wakes," Kane indicated Kazuma.

While he waited for an answer, Kane continued to think. From what he knew of Hanabira, he was aware that she was good at genjutsu. She was really smart which probably contributed to that inclination; much smarter than Kane and blessed with an affinity with books to boot. It wasn't that Kane hated reading... it was just that he never found the chance to properly read one, mostly because there were so many other more interesting things to be doing. But reading had obviously benefited Hanabira in many ways. He spotted a piece of paper lying on the table and sat down to look at it and just generally sit with his sister. "Medical techniques?" he said. The parallels with Aya just continued on, and Kane wondered if the time Hanabira had spent bedridden in the Clinic after her kidnapping and the Meho War had triggered this desire to learn eseijutsu. "Mmmm..." Kane said in interest. "I need to learn how to patch up scrapes with chakra, too. Can you give me a few tips, Hana-chan? That's a reading list, right?" he questioned. He knew admittedly next to nothing about medical techniques, but with his family's natural affinity for chakra control he was sure that basic medical techniques wouldn't be too hard. And if Hanabira was going to be the team's self-appointed medic, what would happen if something happened to her? Better to have a crappy backup than no backup at all. Maybe Kane would make the rest of his team learn basic medical techniques too... They wouldn't remain a squad forever, and with medical knowledge his team would be an individual asset to any team in their future.

While sitting down at the table encompassed in her own writings, Hanabira almost missed the smooth and deep voice of her brother. "Ohayou, Kane-nii," Hanabira said as she lifted her head for her olive eyes to meet his cheerful smile. She smiled back, glad that everything felt normal after last night's dilemmas. "Not yet," Hanabira shook her head slightly as she closed her journal. "I've made snacks for the trip," the girl said with a cute smile as she got up from the table and moved over to the kitchen. "Mhm," Hanabira said with a nod, always loving to cook with Kane. As she started, Kane sat down to examine the list she had. This made her pause and turn around. "Mhm. Yuki-sensei gave me a list to study. She told me they were the steps necessary to learn eseijutsu," Hanabira answered and then continued, "I've finished the readings... I just have to request the next steps of learning from Yuki-sensei..." Hanabira drifted off as she thought of who they were going on the mission with. She hoped that Aya-sempai would teach her the technique while they were on the boat. That would be a nice treat for Hanabira. She paused for a moment before heading into the kitchen. "Tamagoyaki... I think I'll make that for breakfast," Hanabira said as she went into the kitchen. It had been awhile since they had sweet omelet rolls for breakfast.

In the kitchen, Hanabira tried to be as quiet as possible as she got out a square pan and gently sit it on the stove. She didn't want the metal clunking against anything and causing too much commotion. Kazuma seemed like a heavy sleeper since he was still slumbering through Hanabira and Kane's conversation. The Hanaya was small, due to the fact it was connected to the flower shop. Hanabira wondered how business would go with both her and Kane absent. She was confident that Kushina would take good care of everything. "Anno... Would sweet omelets be ok?" Hanabira asked Kane, not sure if she should make salty ones or sweet ones this morning. Hanabira was in a bit of a sweet-tooth mood after making small cakes last night. She got out a bowl, four eggs and the small bag of dashi soup stock to give the eggs that fluffy texture. As the eggs sat on the counter, one nearly rolled off onto the floor, but Hanabira quickly stopped it at the counter's edge.

"Oh, that's great. Thanks, Hana-chan," Kane said when she told him that she'd made snacks for the team. Trust Hanabira to be so thoughtful. She was almost like the perfect replacement for Shin in that respect. Kane didn't doubt that Tanu and Kiba wouldn't have thought to bring or make anything... "Mmmm..." he said as Hanabira told him about learning medical techniques. "I guess I'll have to look for Yuki-san later, then," he said with a small grin. "Or maybe after we come back." He'd probably have a chance to see Yuki before they left, but just in case...
Then Hanabira said that she would make tamagoyaki, a suggestion that Kane liked. "That's a great idea," Kane exclaimed. "I should probably make a complement that's filling, since we're going to go on a mission." Rice or udon? Kane mentally asked himself. It was really a matter of choice since they were both equally easy to prepare.

It was at that moment that Hanabira asked Kane what he preferred. Kane stole a glance at the prone form of Kazuma, sparing just a second wondering what he would like, before deciding that since he was asleep his opinion didn't count. "I'm good with sweet omelets," he said to her, before musing, "actually, I haven't had them for a while... oh! Nice catch there, Hana-chan," Kane complimented her after she prevented part of their breakfast from cracking into inedible liquid on the ground. Then he looked closer at her choice of ingredients.
"Hm, Hana-chan, I think that there'll still be some left over after breakfast," he remarked. "Do you want to pack it up and bring it to Kiba, Tanu and Aya-san later?" As he talked, he looked around in the kitchen for what he needed, namely a big pot. Filling it up with water, Kane asked Hanabira, "So, do you feel like rice or noodles today?"

Hanabira smiled as Kane complimented her nice catch. The adopted Yamanaka was never quick with her reflexes, so she had been lucky with that one! "That sounds nice," Hanabira said with a smile as Kane suggested that they bring left overs for the rest of the squad. Taking the egg she had just caught, Hanabira cracked it on the side of the bowl with one hand. Using her thumb and her palm, Hanabira pulled the egg shell apart for the yolk and white to fall into the bowl. Setting the cracked egg neatly on the counter so that none of the white dirtied the surface, Hanabira did the same thing with the next three eggs. She liked the technique of cracking an egg with one hand. It was something she had seen Tokiha Mai do over and over again when she cooked at the Rice Farm. As Kane asked which food Hanabira was in the mood for, she smiled. "Rice," she said softly. Hanabira loved rice and creating it into bed for suishi and making delicious rice balls. "We could style the tamagoyaki over the rice like suishi," Hanabira suggested.

Hoping that Kane would like her idea, Hanabira continued to make the tamagoyaki. Adding in the dashi soup and the sugar to make the omelets sweet, Hanabira took two chopsticks and lightly fluffed the mixture together. Once she was satisfied with how the mixture was, she grabbed some oil and began coating the pan, which was slightly hot. It wasn't too hot that it made the oil jump, but just the right temperature. Pouring just the right amount of mixture into the pain, Hanabira spread it evenly over the surface. She stood over it watching it cook until it was half down. She then rolled the egg towards the bottom side and then flipped it to one side of the pan. She poured more of the mixture into the pan and rolled the egg against, so the omelet would become thick. Hanabira then waited until it was just slightly turning golden and then set it down on a plate. With a knife, she cut one inch pieces.

She had cut enough to make servings for two, but she had alot of left over mixture. While Kane finished up the rice, Hanabira worked on the other mixtures. Eggs always cooked fast in a pan like the one Hanabira was using. Once she finished the rest of the tamagoyaki, Hanabira washed her hands and cleaned the pan. "I'll wake Kazu-kun while you finish the rice, Kane-nii," Hanabira said as she left the kitchen to wake the Kun Kumo. "Kazu-kun," Hanabira said gently shaking his shoulder as she knelt down by his side in order to wake him.

"Rice it is then," Kane said cheerfully, setting the pot quietly down on the stove. He measured out in cups what he figured was enough rice for the three of them, plus the extra sushi they would be making from the leftover tamagoyaki. This wasn't the normal rice they used for normal dinners where rice was served with different dishes. Instead it was a special type of rice specially for sushi - some had been sent over by Kane's mainland relatives in the mainland a while back, and it did taste much better than normal plain rice. Kane poured the cups of rice into the pot before covering the pot with a lid and leaving it to cook for around 15 to 20 minutes. In the mean time he opened a side cupboard, looking for the vinegar used to marinate rice used for sushi. And while he was doing that, he might as well take out the soy sauce and wasabi for those who liked it. Kiba, Tanu and Aya might appreciate the sushi with condiments after all.

As he waited for the rice to cook, Kane looked over at Hanabira cooking up the rest of the egg. It was obvious that she'd spent much more time in the kitchen than he had from the way she handled her tools and the stylish way she'd cracked the egg just now. He inhaled in the delightful aroma of the sweet egg as it was cooked, and the mischievous thought that if this smell didn't wake Kazuma up, nothing would crossed his mind. The egg was soon done but the rice was still cooking and when Hanabira said she would go to wake Kazuma up Kane nodded and took the chopped omelette, moving it closer to the rice. "I'm going to prepare the sushi rice then," he said. The rice was soon done and while Kane would've dearly loved to wait as it cooled, one glance at the sky outside revealed that it was really getting a lot later than he would have liked. They'd just have to compromise, although it was quite a pity that they would be eating and giving their teammates subpar sushi. Quickly, Kane spread the rice out on a wooden board and poured sushi vinegar all over the rice. Then he mixed the two for a while with a wooden spoon and quickly, with a less than practised but still competent hand, kneaded the rice together into cubes, placing an egg slice on each cube of rice. He then carried out the whole plate of tamagoyaki sushi, more than enough for three of them, out of the kitchen, putting the plate on the dining room. "Breakfast is ready," he called out.
