Erik was content to stand a little behind Siber and watch. This new girl seemed much too loud, though he noted the bit about tasting magic. Her clothes were what Erik would call punk, a more annoying version of the goth to his mind.
Erik hardly kept his disgust from showing on his face, Tomas laughed.

"Useful," Paul said, trying to figure out precisely what he was talking about. It didn't take long. "So... let's try infusing this..." Paul reached into his pocket and withdrew a penny. "...this penny with the ability to throw out a wall of fire to prevent people from following me. When I throw it down and stamp on it." He closed his eyes, visualizing the wall of flame leaping up from the penny. Again the vision sprang up behind his eyelids. Opening his eyes, he threw the penny down to the ground, then stamped on it. Hard.
Two tendrils of flame pushed out either direction, locking against the walls. The tendrils sprung up into a wall, which subsequently touched the ceiling, locking in there. Paul grinned. "That's what I'm talking about."

She shrugged her heavy frame pack off, setting against a dusty wall. "I don't know about joining you. I don't really understand who 'you' would be, or from what you'd be freeing our brethren. I came here to find that out, but I'll help in this operation if you think I'm good enough."
"If you're wondering Vassily and I use an offshoot of Demon magic. He's told me that normally a demon is summoned into existence through various means, binding, circles etcetera. He was originally a Siberian shaman, so we channel the demons through my body. It never takes on a corporeal existence, but it lends me its power and other attributes. I've done it a few times, and have two demons ready for combat, and one who may or may not cooperate, depending on her mood." She paused, grinning again at the skeptical looks on the faces before her. "I'm a pretty outgoing person, and I badgered Vassily into doing magic only a few months after we first made contact."

<More summoning methods you haven't told me about?> Siber was too intrigued to be angry. Keldan sounded shocked. Siber blinked a few times. "Um... Keldan says, and I paraphrase, 'I am in awe and am supremely jealous.'"
He grinned, again mischievously. "Can you teach me?" More allies, some of them friends. More tools, some of them people. More power, all of it... so close to inebriating.

Joe yawned. "Jeez, another demon freak? Don't we have enough of them around here?" He smiled broadly. "Ah, who cares? I'm all for a little diversity." He bowed slightly and said, "Come on in, m,ake yourself comfortable. We're all friends here." He smiled at Kayla, Erik, and Siber. "We should probably rest up. We've got some work to do in the morning." With that, he spun on his heel and walked to the stairs, still smiling happlily as he climbed up them and entered his room.

Takeshi walked out into the entryway.
"Ooh, fresh meat," he said, grinning the moment he caught sight of her clothing. "And who might you be?"

"I don't know if you can learn it and still do the regular kind of demon summoning, I don't really think it can work both ways at once. First off, it takes a hell of a lot of preparation. You need either shamanic training or a dead shaman sitting in the back of your mind in order to get to the trance state. You need to be in a deep trance to get to Hell, where you have to form powerful bonds with the demons you plan to channel. I mean really powerful, you need to earn their respect and everything. Aside from the work involved, the energy flow is completley different. Instead of chucking thaums at a knife and binding a dragon to it, you readjust the flow of the magic and energy within yourself. If you tried to hold both processes within yourself at the same time, I doubt it would end well. Probably a bit like a clogged toilet."
"Would you be okay with a little demonstration? Just to clarify."

"My Lady," Siber emphasized the formality with a harsh and pointed glare at Takeshi, "I would love a demonstration." He wished Joe had stayed- they all needed whatever weapons were available. Keldan may as well have been squee-ing in his head.
He did.
He did that, too. He was excited again. Siber sighed, but knew he had to catch on fast. He controlled his breathing, kept an image of the place firmly in his head, and then slowly called, very slightly, upon the well of energy he used to summon his demons. Slowly, the lines of force became clear to him. His were centered on his seven chakras, the plexi being very clear. Erik's, behind him, moved somewhat that way, but were more centered in his upper chest and brain. Kayla's were... strange. If his were liquid, hers were gaseous. There were only two definable lines, and as she began summoning, one went taught while the other remained... lax, is the only way to describe it. Siber waited with great anticipation.

Takeshi smiled and watched. Unconsciously, without thought or recognition, his magic and mind harmonized with Siber's, allowing him to piggyback onto Siber's vision of it.
That was why Takeshi had been able to master his use of fire so easily after seeing Joe use it. Takeshi, of all people, had the one-in-a-million talent of magic-empathy. And thus far, Haru was the only one who realized it, and how much luck it had to have involved.
Legion, on the other hand, knew exactly how much it had cost to give Takeshi this skill.

Kayla looked a little awkward for a moment. "I usually do something different to induce the trance, but this should do..." She took a square stance, and clapped her hands together once, and began rubbing them vigorously back and forth. She let her eyes drift closed, and her breathing fell into a slow rhythm. Her energy began pooling out, circulating evenly through her whole body. It also began building, to the point that a little bit of it seeped out with every breath she took. The circulation slowed as she continued, and eventually came to a standstill. She let her hands fall slackly to her sides.
Her magical energy stayed perfectly still, though it gave off an impression of general motion which caused significant strain to the inner eye. Without any warning, and almost faster than Erik could follow, her energy imploded, leaving her body eerily vacant for a split second. It would look intuitively wrong to Erik. In that same second, it spilled out again, and it was very, very different. It pumped vividly through her eyes and face like it hadn't even before she entered the trance, and was brighter in her arms and legs.
"Just one more thing..." She breathed in and out slowly, as if steeling herself for something. Then the hotspots in her eyes and limbs suddendly shifted subtly, a shift accompanied by a loud craking noise and a grunt of pain from Kayla. Her fists and forearms were physically changing shape and giving off steam, developing what looked like red scale gauntlets with barbed knuckles. She hastily kicked off her boots to reveal a similar transformation at her feet. This transformation was obviously causing her discomfort as her breathing became heavier and a few beads of sweat appeared on her brow. Two little pops sounded as her eyes changed color and their pupils took on a strange w-shape, accompanied by a little hiss of pain.
"I hate that part. Ah, anyway. This is the real kicker." She flexed her transformed hand wiggled her fingers. "My strength has multplied I don't know how many times, and my vision's gotten much better. You should really do something about those pores, by the way. You'll get acne."
"You probably noticed that my energy disappeared for a moment there. You can't do that and still keep your way of summoning demons. Your whole method opens an outside-inside-outside-stop path, where the demon comes from Hell, passes through you directly to the outside, and is bound. From then on, the path is outside-outside-stop. In other words, your energy is focused on effecting the flow of the energy around you, and moves accordingly. My summoning goes outside-inside-pause-outside, where the demon starts in Hell, is brought within my body where it stays, and then returns to Hell. My energy is focused on altering the flow of energy inside myself. You'll notice that even when I opened the summoning gate or whatever you call it it was self-contained. If you got your energy to move in that way, you'd no longer be able to perform your style of summoning to the degree to which you've become accustomed. If I altered my energy flow to do your style of summoning, I'd no longer be able to do the transformation, the transformation being the key to unlocking at least 80% of any demon's power. By the way, this is mostly Vassily speaking, so it's kind of news to me too."

Joe was just starting to fall back asleep when he was hit with a sudden wave of magical energy that jolted him awake. Roland?
They're playing with their Demon magic, aren't they?
We're not gonna get to sleep for a while, are we?
Joe sighed and rolled himself out of bed, trudged back downstairs, and leaned against the banister, watching the demon magic being discussed and used.

Kayla's shadow rippled and turned pitch black. A black cloaked figure rose upwards, cross-legged, sitting on the ground after emerging from the floor. Hands that seemed to shimmer through a spectrum of colors, yet simultaneously not change at all, reached up and drew the hood back. Legion, in the full, terrible glory of his demonic consumption, displayed a face simultaneously possessing untold numbers of contradictory features, such that it almost hurt the eyes to look at.
"Good evening, Kayla. Vassily." He nodded twice at Kayla as he spoke. As he assumed her face, he commented, "I suppressed your magical signature to those outside. I'd prefer if we just drop the magic here for now. You may begin casting outside of the training room as of eight o'clock, AM, tomorrow morning. I'm going to carry out some sensitive work, so avoid causing me any trouble in the next few hours, please."
He fell backwards into the shadow and disappeared before his speech had really sunk in.

Siber had been watching the entire process with growing excitement. The transformation, however painful it might have been, was beyond beautiful. It was... it was... he didn't even know. Ethereal. Phantasmagorical. Pulchritudinous. Sepulchrally seraphic, if it hadn't been for the demon's occult origin. This was one of the penultimate tools in controlling those around him: total bodily transfiguration. There was also, of course, the ability to kill emotions and other such stuff, but this opened up so many possibilities in his little manipulative schemes. "Vassily- or Kayla, if you know- I have a question for you. Two, really. First, do you mind if I touch your arm, just to make sure it's real even though I know it is, and second, do demons summoned this way have the capacity to perform magic?"
"Nevermind," he said casually, waving his hand dismissively. "Thank you for the demonstration. I would love to show you my own, but I'm very tired. Maybe we can talk about this again later? Your summoning intrigues me." Her third eye, her Ajna, had gone crazy with energy during the summoning. Siber had so many ideas.... he knew how to access the third eye. If that's how she was seeing into hell... so many possibilities!!

As soon as Legion appeared in her shadow, Kayla's transformation reversed itself. She actually gave a cry of pain this time, as all her hands, feet, and eyes all shifted back to normal instantaneously, and at the exact same time. She mastered herself quickly: she didn't need Vassily shouting at her to show respect in the presence of Legion. The sheer thaumaturgical force around him was nearly suffocating. When he vanished, it was like having a weight lifted off her chest. Hurriedly, she thought a farewell and good luck after the demon she had been channeling, as she felt him slipping out of her conciousness.
"I guess you can't touch it, then. As far as learning it, I'd seriously reconsider if I were you. It's literally impossible for the two flows of energy to coexist peacefully with each other within one body. They're moving in different directions, so one will naturally subtract force from the other. The end result of evening the two currents out would be like a whirlpool, which is the result of two powerful rivers meeting in one basin. Your magic would never be the same again. If you want to use my kind of magic, it means giving up yours. Permanantly." She sounded somewhat annoyed, as though she were explaining to a toddler why we don't stick our hand in the fire.
