OK, here's mine (Good first): -

Best story: Human Nature/The Family Of Blood
This story allowed us to see a completely different side to the Doctor and David Tennant got to show off his versatility. The contrasting styles with which he portrayed both the Doctor and John Smith made me wonder whether it was the same person playing each part. Backed up by an amazingly talented cast, this was truly a joy to behold and packed one hell of an emotional punch! This was, in my opinion the best story since the show came back in 2005.

Best direction: 42 (directed by Graeme Harper)
As is appropriate for an episode set in real time, the pace hardly let up for a second, the only lull being provided by the lovely scene with Martha and Riley in the escape pod. I think this is Graeme Harper's best work since The Caves Of Androzani (8/3/84 - 16/3/84). It actually scared me in places as well, especially the part where the Doctor is possessed and screaming in agony. The strange angle at which that part is filmed adds loads of impact to the scene.

Best monsters: The Weeping Angels from Blink
Chilling. I'm not the biggest fan of statues at the best of times, but now I am really terrified of them!

Best female guest star: Thelma Barlow as Lady Thaw in The Lazarus Experiment
This was an extremely hard decision to make, but I went for Thelma because she was so completely unlike the kind of characters I'm used to her playing. She may have only been in the episode for a short time, but her scenes with Mark Gatiss were nothing short of brilliant.

Best male guest star: John Simm as the Master in The Sound Of Drums/Last Of the Time Lords
A fabulously unhinged performance from the star of Life On Mars. It was truly a masterstroke (pun fully intended!) to get the second best actor in the country to play alongside the best actor in the country as someone who, really, is the Doctor's equal in intelligence and cunning. The final scenes of the Master and the Doctor were heartbreaking.

Most welcome return: Captain Jack Harkness
Need I say more? I've been waiting for this since Series One! We finally find out more about Jack, and the chemistry between David and John provided a lot of entertainment. Brilliant!

Best quote: Doctor: Really shouldn't take that long to reverse the polarity! Must be a bit out of practice!
A nod to the classic series that pressed all my fangirl buttons.

OK, now time for the not so good in what was overall a very strong series.

Worst story: Daleks In Manhattan/Evolution Of The Daleks
Tons of plot holes. How did a lightning strike become something that was able to transfer DNA? Why didn't the Daleks kill Dalek Sec when he was showing unDaleklike traits, instead of allowing him to save the Doctor? Since when have Daleks glanced over their shoulders before saying something?! It's a shame, really, because this had the potential to be an excellent story.

Worst direction: Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution Of The Daleks (directed by James Strong)
Very slow. I found myself losing interest. I actually rewatched Evolution last night and found myself almost dozing off. However, this did have one redeeming feature. The plate shots of New York at night were stunning.

Worst monsters: The Toclafane (The Sound Of Drums/Last Of The Time Lords)
I'm afraid I just couldn't see the point of them. I know they're meant to be future humans, but I still didn't understand why they were there.

Worst female guest star:Miranda Raison in Daleks In Manhattan/Evolution Of The Daleks
Ironically, for a show where the slaves of the threat were pigs, the biggest ham in the show was this one. It's a shame, because I've seen her in other shows and she was great!

Worst male guest star:Rene Zagger (Padra in Utopia)
And more Continental Breakfast acting! (For those who don't get what I mean, Continental breakfasts usually have ham and cheese involved somewhere.)

Least welcome return:Emergency Temporal Shift
Easy get out for the Daleks, but I couldn't help thinking "Not again!" There has got to be a more original way for the Daleks to escape somehow!

Worst quote: Doctor: Never waste time in a hug! - Evolution Of The Daleks
Completely out of character, and I felt it made light of the situation.

Who are Ebert & Roeper?

I just hate saying stuff and not justifying it, because I understand other people might disagree. I'm fine with that though.

Katy - They're television and movie reviewers.

Trix - Yes, I agree with you about the Dalek episodes. If only there were one season WITHOUT Daleks! And yes, Martha pretty much blew in the first few episodes. I liked her much more in the finale. I still think with everyone calling the Doctor's name, Martha should've told them to say "Rose" too! Then good ol' Rose would appear in a blue flamy thing too!

I have to say martha just doesn't deal with novel situations with the same ease that rose did.

Mmm, I agree with katybutterfly really. I haven't seen all of series three though, so I'll hold back most of my opinions until then...

But I will say, I thought the Shakespear Code was absolutely terrible *grimace* and... Daleks in Manhattan... or the first one of those two anyway, it was kind of boring and that chick, whatever her name was (the blonde one) annoys the hell out of me, as do those pig things, and Laslo, and... ... the new evolved dalek sec who ... is wearing a pinstripe suit. Well maybe my opinions will change once I see the second part but probably not...

Whell at least series three improves (apparantly) towards the end, so far it really hasn't met my expectations. Never mind though, still good to watch 3nodding

Gotta agree. I'm not so much of a fan of series 3...I don't like Martha, since i am a doctor/rose shipper, and i think the writers made a mistake with Martha's unrequited love storyline-which got REALLY whiny... I loved Jack coming back, and the Master. Blink was probably the equivalent of Love and Monsters, but much better.

Good:

Master is back.
We see gallifrey.
Jack is back.
The Lazarus Monster.
Martha.
A good first episode for a change.
The macra make an unexpected return.
John Smith as a school teacher (Again).
Baines and one of the greatest lines said in the greatest way.
Three part story YAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAY.
The weeping angels-possibly the greatest doctor who monster ever made for the new series.

Bad:

Martha leaving.
A bad second part to our only dalek story.
Jack only being in three episodes.
The blue suit.
More mystery surrounding the series finale.
The master dosn't have a beard.
Constant mentions of Rose (seriously, they're annoying people!!).
The Timelord citadel looked wrong (I've run out of bad things to say).
