i konw cats are teritorial, but they still fight!

out of no where one of them hisses, then they case eachother around.
is there any way i can get them to have peace? whee

Well, around 5 months ago we (my family) got a new cat. I love her to death. She is entirely black and her name is Bella. She attacks everyone and does the cutest things 4laugh like run around out in the backyard in the freezing cold and sleeps in my bed...opens doors eek

She doesn't like our budgie, Ringo. It must be a thing to do with birds. She sees him as a source of fantastic entertainment and tries to jump up onto the cage. Not good.

I think it just might be an animal thing. Territory...blah blah blah. I guess they'll learn to live together.

My last two cats, Pokie and Samantha, they got along fine after a while and still had little fights...but they died a few years ago. I miss them.

But what Bella lacks in her size, she makes up in attitude rofl

An' ye harm none, do what ye will...
Cats are very independent animals. I love cats. I personally think they are amazing.
But still sometimes they need their own space. Is the area you keep them big enough for the two?
(or house)

My two cats used to fight for the best spot on the bed XD

i sure miss the good old days.

I have 5 cats. My cats do the exact same thing. In my household they are showing their dominance to the younger so the younger knows who's boss. My kitten is warming up to the only other male cat in the house and the other females ignore him but still teach him his place. This could be what's happening with your cats. Not to mention cats are territorial but once they warm up to the newcomer there won't be as many "little spats" as there are know. My older cats (6 years) are just know starting to get used to the younger cats of 2 years. This could be whats happening in your household.

That's probably the best answer anyone could give, Snow. Just give them some time to get used to each other, to you. To grow up some. Even cats need to grow up sometimes, though they'd never let you know about it! wink

There truly isn't a way to make your cats stop fighting, although eventually they WILL get used to each other it never means that they will stop entirely.
I have 4 cats and 2 kittens at the moment. My oldest cat Baby is 12 and she fights with her own children, Snoopy who is 7 and Diamond who is 5.

My other cat I recently brought here is only 2 years old and his name is Ninja, he's a true bombay. Woot for my first black kitty. Diamond used to fight with him brutally, and chunks of fur would fly in the air but now they can stand being within 3 feet of eachother.

My kittens, Loki and Denga, they always fight with eachother and they sometimes leave scabs.

It's best to just let them battle it out most of the time, there's territorial stuff that we don't understand completely.

To some extent castration helps with male cats. To some extent. They will still need to form their own chain of command, but they'll stop peeing everyhwere to claim it. Not to mention they won't get into fights, make new kittens that nobody will want or bring home all sorts of illnesses.

If they're young, chances are, they're not fighting, they're playing. You can usually tell the difference.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. But if it gets to the point where they're a threat to each other, try this:

Set up a space in seperate parts of the house that is just their own. Full of stuff they like that the other cat doesn't. It might keep them seperated enough to stop fighting.

well, some cats do that just to play, you would be surprised to find out how they play.

Well i have some cats at my house and my mom brings home some foster kittens. MY cat (the one I own) Pippin hates newcomers, but she's gotten used to other cats coming in and out. right now we're working with some semi-feral kittens, and she's OK with them. but 2 other cats, Mini (cus she's 1/2 normal size) and Crash (cus he's big, fluffy, and runs into walls) love kittens and work with them. whee
