I'm hearing rumors about an item that's gonna be released sometime called a "Purple Box" and that it could hold anything, including a halo! eek confused Maybe I misunderstood or something, but if they did release such an item, how do you think it would effect the economy? Personally, I think that would be a stupid idea, unless I got one and it had a halo in it. @.@ xd

I dunno. It's still a rumor, but even if it contained a halo, it's said that the box will be extremely hard to find. In addition to that, the box could contain -anything-. So that could mean any of Gaia's thousand items or so, from peasant clothing to the 2003 donation items.
Just my opinion, I don't think it will affect the economy much, except those people who buy it for something like 100k and end up getting peasant booties. xd

I really don't think it would do very much, maybe a little. I would expect that even if halo's were in the boxes they would be very hard to find. There are somthings in gaia that are just way to expencive and everyone wants to own everything so the introduction of a purple box might be helpfull.

Yes I think the box would be helpfull so in a few years thoughs who would never have any chance at even getting 25% of there goal of a halo might get one in one of these boxes. 3nodding

I've heard similar rumors, and honestly, I don't think it'll impact the economy that much. Why? Well....
1. They'll be extremely rare (more rare than pink boxes) 2. There's a huge variety of items that could be in it 3. Even if a few lucky users find old '03 items, the huge majority will get either store items, or cheaper '04 items.
Put all that together, and you'll probably get purple boxes which by themselves will probably cost more than a pink box, but at the same time won't have enough of an impact on the community to do more than make a blip in the economy radar as a whole.
Perhaps if you think in the long run of 1-2 years down the road, it might have some affect from keeping some of the '03 items from becoming unreachable, I doubt it'll have any negative effect on prices given the growth of Gaia.

I've heard about as well....I have some links...
*goes and digs*
Arg...I don't seem to have the PM with the links anymore and I can't find them crying
From what I've read/heard(mostly speculation, I believe) the box will be incredibly hard to find and probably won't be released for a while as it has been said that it will tie into a "quest" of some sort.
I've heard that the box will be rare and the contents will be random - any donation item or store item. (Event items???) So you *could* get a Halo and you *could* get peasant booties.
I actually think this will work out well and make some lucky users very rich(or happy). If it's handled right and the ratios for the donation items are kept very low it shouldn't impact the economy much. No way to know until the boxes are released and we can map some sort of trend in the contents... If they're using a script that gives away one of every item in the game before repeating then you could have hundreds of boxes and only 1 of each of the rare donation item entering the marketplace.
Personally, I think I would rather sell the box because the odds are that you'll be able to sell it for more than the average item that can/will come out of it. Sort of like pink boxes once a upon a time....you could sell a pink box for 10k or more every time at one point in the life of Gaia. People bought them because they were rich, because they collected pink boxes....because they were hoping for headbands ~ the creme de la creme of headpieces in the time before donation items.

He he he. That's what I tend to do with my event containers. I think I figured it out earlier that on average I'd be better off selling the containers than hoping against hope for some of the better items. That plus I'm pretty risk averse, leads me to sell just about every pink/blue giftbox and trunk I find. xd

I heard rumors about it and people seems to be looking forward to it and people seems to be against it. I would probably say I'm looking forward to it since it contains an item that i didn't get when i joined.
Affecting the economy? Well, when someone finally finds one, it'll probably start at a very high amount of price. Just like the new items before xp Crazy sellers, crazy buyers... After a while, it'll probably go done but since it can contain a possible halo domokun it'll be high and people will take risks.
I would probably take a chance. Even when something good is in there, like a Halo xd June is my birth month, i need a halo... halo...halo...*mutters*

If I got one, I would probably put up an offers/auction thread to see how much it would fetch. A few 100k I'm guessing because it contain 03s like Headphones, Slippers, Bear hats etc.
And there is some info in the EVIL Price guide thread 3nodding

Yeah, I guess it wouldn't be so bad if it was REALLY unlikey to get a good item. But still, I cringe at the thought of what they might sell for, especially the first few days. sweatdrop
Well, imagine this too. I have no idea what it will be like, but I'll make up some numbers. xp This probably won't make sense, but I'll give it a shot.
A purple box comes out every ten minutes. (Considering how many people that there are on gaia, that's pretty rare) 144 boxes per day. Let's say a June 2003 item comes out 1/20,000 boxes. July 2003 items come out 1/10,000 boxes, August 2003 items come out 1/5000 boxes, etc.
That may seem pretty rare, but... *calculates* Well, worse than I thought. xp June 2003 items, three times a year. July items, 6 times. August items, 12 times.
Anyway, I'm crazy! xp sweatdrop I think it might affect the economy. domokun

About the Purple Box... That was brought out in Otakon I believe~
It was also mentioned that it would not go out, till after Beta.
So whan I'm guessing, it's going to be some sort of prize for the person that acomplishes one of the hard quests perhaps? Or maybe it's going to be like a Casino Jackpot kinda thing... I'm trying to see it in a bigger way, since it has to be a certan accomplishment.. It just doesn't strike me as a good thing to leave it out as being able to find it randomly...
Buy that's just me~

L0cke Guys, slow down here :] First of all, we totally realize how fragile a economy can be and would never do anything so silly as to endanger or greatly alter its structure. If the "generate any item" type item is implemented at all, it will be in a extremely limited fashion and most likely be one of the rarest items on the site itself and may very well be part of a quest that will require some patience. This isnt going to be anything like the current rares or commons, so please do not worry about everyone and their mother running around with precious older items ^^; The only reason for implementing a system like this is so that users can have a fun quest to actually work towards to make a one in a million attempt to get a very rare item, as a side activity to do while they may be saving up gold for that very same item ^^ Best wishes, -L0cke Source: http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=146794357#146794357It's always worth to check out the admins last posts every two weeks, because they always post interesting background informations about Gaia and a big Gaia fan should know as much about Gaia as possible. ^_^

I doubt it'll have an impact on the economy. as stated they will most likely be incredibly, incredibly rare. On top of the that, the chances of getting a halo in one is six times rarer. Chances are it'll be of every 400 purple boxes, one will contain a halo. ..... 275 will contain christmas slippers xd xd xd xd xd
I had to.

Chaows ..... 275 will contain christmas slippers xd xd xd xd xd *hears chants of "Burn the tree! Burn the tree!" change to "Burn the box! Burn the box!"*
There are more than one thousand items total in Gaia. Even if a purple box can contain anything, including donation letters and not just the items, the chances of getting a June 03 item would be somewhere along the lines of 0.1%. I do not think that a having this item won from a hard, long quest would affect the economy in any way except to have gold drain from it as people spend large amounts of gold on an item that might only give them an item worth 1k.
