the question contradicts the fact. God is all powerful, so any rock he made he would have to be able to lift. And just asking, not meant offensively, why would he want to?

That's like saying, "oooh, you're God, eh? Make a square circle!" or, "Make 1+1=5!" It defies logic. xp

Hey, how'd you do that? I want upside down question marks too...
But back to the point, no, he can't make a rock too big for him to lift. It's like telling God to make a 4-sided triangle. It just defies all the concepts of logic.
Besides, doesn't God have better things to than lift rocks all day?

I've seen that question before.
I think the answer is that he would not do something like that. Beside why would he?

I don't see why God would waste time making a rock really big and then not being able to lift it. First of all, He's God, he can do anything he wants. Second, like I and a lot of other people said, why would he make a really big rock?

God is omnipotent or all-powerful. therefore He can fulfill anything He wants to. and that means yes, even lifting an impossibly huge rock He made Himself.

The answer is impossible with our minds, (But I'm sure God could come up with some answer. xD )

It's like telling God to make a 4-sided triangle. It just defies all the concepts of logic. Besides, doesn't God have better things to than lift rocks all day? This is my personal favorite answer. I cracked up as soon as I saw it.

Translation: Can God do something God cannot do?
It's wrapped up in the humanizing of God.
Think about it like this. Human beings can EASILY make rocks so big we can't lift them ourselves (Just leave a wheelbarrow full of cement, then knock it out and try to lift it yourself. You'll see what I mean.)
However, God can do anything. Impossibly huge rock so massive if God didn't make a special exemption to physics it'd collapse into a black hole? Created. Can God move it? Of course he can.
The question has a built-in and carefully designed logic hole created for the express purpose of confounding Christians (or just Theists, even) who claim our God is all powerful.
It's basically saying: Can God do A, which makes B untrue, or B, which makes A untrue, just because of the way I worded this question?
If a person says God can move it, then he hasn't created a rock so big he can't move it.
Attacking Atheist: "Can God create a rock so big He Himself cannot move it?" Defending Christian: "No." Attacking Atheist: "Ah HA! Then you admit there's something God cannot do, meaning that he's not all powerful."
If a person says God can make one so big he can't move it, then he can't move it.
Attacking Atheist: "Can God create a rock so big He Himself cannot move it?" Defending Christian: "Yes." Attacking Atheist: "Ah HA! Then you admit there's something God cannot do, meaning that he's not all powerful."
Both of these are incorrect on both people's part. No is the more correct answer, but that does not mean the Atheist has won some decisive victory. It just means he's memorized a confounding and illogical catch-22: a mind game and deceptive confusion. There is no victory in that.
God can make rocks of any size, and he can move rocks of any size. No matter what size of rock He has created, even an infinitely large one, God can also move it.
That does not detract from the all powerful and all knowing nature of God. The question is an attack by Atheists against the idea of an infinitely powerful being.
Sometimes our finite minds have trouble comprehending the infinite, and one thing I've noticed about Atheists is that they want to understand everything. Which really strikes me as odd considering the fact that they can never explain where the big bang ultimately came from.
There's gotta be an un-caused cause. Atheism is the most illogical religion on the planet, ironically. xd
But that's a topic for another thread.

coheedXlicker if God is all powerful Can he make a rock so large he can not lift it ? this question confused me since i could not come up with an answer @_@ Wouldn't that be a double negative anyway? Answering no would lead to: If God is all powerful, can He make a rock so large he cannot move it? + no = God cannot make a rock so large that he cannot not move it. Why else would he make a rock infinitely large? xd

coheedXlicker if God is all powerful Can he make a rock so large he can not lift it ? this question confused me since i could not come up with an answer @_@ confused I think the real question is, does it really matter? 3nodding I don't see the point of wondering about rocks and who can lift them all day. I believe that God created science along with everything else. It's just the rules he set down so that nature wouldn't go all loco on us. whee Anyway, God made all the planets and those are pretty big rocks.
