Just curious, I was thinking of trying it myself and I wanted someone's perspective.
Typically because I tend to over-romanticize things... So I think it would be amazing but it's probably really bad....
I think I'm rambling.

I've had a little experience when it comes to acid. Had a few number of trips (about 6 or 7 times in 18 months, not trying to do any d**k sizing, just to help with the experience).
Now mind you I have had the equivital horrible trip. But it was my own fault. One of the biggest rules to remember with psychedelics is set and setting. You should be in a familiar place with people you know and be in a pleasent state of mind. My first time was with people I just met in one of their houses. This lead to a horrible trip culminating in me thinking I was bleeding to death while scorpions and spiders ate my flesh and the people I was with turned into werewolves screaming "I want to sleep and I want to be awake and I want to sleep and I want to DIE!"
However I didn't get scared from it because I knew that what had happened was from poor planning. Since then all of my trips had been much better. The only ever downside I ever had was when I almost hooked up with a guy despite really liking someone else. Didn't have a bad trip but started crying.
As long as you are safe about it and have a sober sitter with you (or an experienced person also tripping) then if you want to I would say ok.

That's one of my problems, I only know one person who would kind of help me through it and he refuses to let me touch the stuff because while he andhis friends were all on acid his one friend started to peel his skin because he thought he was an orange, anyway, the kid died becase they wer all to stoned to make him stop. So you can see why he'd be cautious especially since I had a horrid first time smoking weed.

The "I'm an orange" myth is really just a myth. Could he tell you the kid's name and was it in the news? What probably actually happened is he didn't have a good trip and he wanted to try his hardest to keep you from it.

Now the difference between a psychedelic halucination and a deliriet/schizophrenic one is that you are supposed to be able to discern that what you are seeing is only because of the drug under a psychedelic one (delirient or schizophrenic ones however will feel completely real).

I've tried it a few times, and it's nothing like I thought it would be. It's an amazing experience, though.
If you're going to try it, I'd recommend a trip sitter, having a valium on hand if you just can't take it (I can't say it works, myself, since I've never wanted to end or soften up a trip, I take even the bad trips as part of myself), and I'd recommend you do it out in the country, where you can find quiet and darkness... I so want to get an isolation tank...

Wow, you know alot. So do you happen to know if foxglove flowers can cause a drug-like delirium? Because I know it causes delirium I'm just not sure if there's different kinds....

Foxglove is a digitalis, which acts on the parasympathetic nervous system, heart rate in particular, and is used to treat heart conditions. Or the drugs derived from it are, I should say.
I've never heard of anyone using it for enjoyment, but I haven't really thought to look... my first instinct, cos of the heart thing, is to leave off entirely. And... phooey. Erowid lists it, but there's no faq, no experiences... *pouts* Here's the only link it lists. o_O;
It's not nightshades you're thinking of, is it?

It's not nightshades you're thinking of, is it? I read it in the book Choke I'm certain it said foxglove.... (mostly because I'd remember nightshade... but I always thought it was posionous.) The book said it caused nausea, delerium, and something else (probably fever). I was just curious how severe the nausea and fever would be and what exactly the delirium would be like, you know, to see if it would even be worth it.

And I'm a bibliophile anyway, so now I'm doubly curious... *googles* Chuck Palahniuk?

The author's most noted for his book-made-movie Fight Club which I would also recommend. One warning though, they're all about how pathetic humanity is. So it can get pretty depressing and ridiculous at some times but I read his work because, occasionally, (usually toward the last few pages) he's got some really awesome moral that can be hidden a little. I highlighted one the first time I read Choke but I didn't get it until I read it the fourth time..... sweatdrop

I noticed the Fight Club mention when I went googling -- I'll admit I didn't even see it, but when it comes to books make into movies, that's usually a good thing! I'll definitely keep him in mind next time I stock up.
As far as the foxglove bit goes, I don't know enough about Palahniuk to give it weight... like, if it were a Michael Crichton book, for example, Crichton's a bona fide doctor, out of Harvard Med, and he researches (and footnotes) the hell out of his novels... 'Course, now I'm curious enough that I'll probably see what I can track down. ^^;

I take the shrooms for medicinal reasons (my hypothalamus needs a good kick in the teeth every few months and the psilocybin does the trick). I usually only take about half a recreational dose, enough to get me good and giggly-stoned but not enough to realize full hallucinations.
Had some bad trips, but you take the good with the bad. I take advantage of the bad ones as stress therapy. As said before, set and setting make all the difference, as well as having someone sober around just in case you need guidance.
One thing I think people get scared of is themselves. On the hallucinogens you can't filter yourself. You'll get the full presentation of yourself, warts and all. Many people don't like or don't accept their warts and they get uncomfortable, which can spiral the trip into emotional negativity. That's when the bubbles and rainbows turn into thunderstorms and serpents.
Most people get sick on shrooms because they eat them raw, but there are recipes out there that make them far more palatable than Raw God's Flesh. smile
