Well, I don't want to leave this particular elephant in the room ignored or grossly misrepresented, and if anyone else around here has had as much direct, firsthand experience (or any, really) as I have, I'm unaware of it. So, that said, let this topic of tweak commence.
Recent media coverage in the U.S. has dubbed it the new drug epidemic, making crystal meth -- in a sense -- the heir of crack cocaine. Even Erowid handles the topic with kid gloves, and I certainly can't fault them for that; methamphetamines are physically as well as mentally addictive, increase blood pressure and heart rate to potentially dangerous levels, contribute to the deterioration of muscle fibers (putting the heart at even greater risk) and other organs, and can contribute to malnutrition, sleep deprivation and its corresponding effects (coordination and memory problems, paranoia, etc), and dental problems.
I can probably guess what you're thinking, -- so why would someone take it in the first place??
Two words: alert euphoria. Rather than the dazed, dopey happiness of cannabis and opiates, a stimulant like meth offers a high that is energetic, awake, and makes one feel they can take on all comers. You don't want to sit at home and veg, for the most part; you want to go, you want to do. You want to laugh and dance and experience all you can.
Erowid Administration Methamphetamine can be taken orally, snorted, smoked or injected, in approximately increasing order of immediacy of onset.
Onset Onset can be immediate (in the case of injection), or can take as long as 30-40 minutes if ingested orally.
Duration Duration is subjective, but is probably on the order of 4 - 8 hours. Delayed absorption (for example, due to oral ingestion) can prolong the effects relative to time of administration. Of course, larger doses last longer due to the fact that it is removed from the blood at a finite rate.
Plasma Life The length of time that methamphetamine will stay in the plasma (blood) is between 4 to 6 hours. It can be detected in the urine one hour after use and up to 48 hours after use.
Dosage A toxic reaction (or overdose) can occur at relatively low levels, 50 milligrams of pure drug for a non-tolerant user. Different peoples' metabolisms work at different rates, and drug strengths vary, so there is no way of stating a "safe" or "unsafe" level of use.
Effects These include euphoria, hyperexcitability, extreme nervousness, accelerated heartbeat, sweating, dizziness, restlessness, insomnia, tooth grinding, incessant talking, and other effects.
Methamphetamine and other CNS stimulants have strong bronchodilation effects. Vasoconstriction (tightening of blood vessels) and pupil dilation are also common. Elevated blood pressure, heart rate, and other general symptoms of increased sympathetic nervous activity.
The physical effects are almost assuredly due to interactions between the amphetamine structure and human physiology, probably due to the similarity to adrenaline (epinephrine).
Mental capacity is not diminished directly by the drug. In fact, some studies have shown slight increases in mental capacity on simple tasks. It has been prescribed for attention deficit disorder, among other things.
Confusing reports here tend to center around the effects of fatigue on mental capacity.
Emotional responses may range from euphoria to anger and paranoia. Preliminary doses tend to produce the former, while continued use (e.g. for three or more days) tends to produce the latter.
It appears that these feelings may be linked to the neurotransmitters dopamine and/or serotonin, although we have not seen a good reference on this yet. You'll hear it called crystal, speed, crank, tina, shabu-shabu, glass, ice, even peanut butter and cheetos, and its chemical makeup can vary depending on the cut. Generally, speed and crank are very impure forms, while the infamous (to tweakers, legendary) ice is almost completely pure methamphetamine hydrochloride. Of the various possibilities, snorting and smoking are likely the most common administration techniques -- smoking is perhaps more prevalent due to the burning sensation experienced when snorting, though it's said to be more addictive when smoked.
First synthesized in 1919, methamphetamine may also known by the name Desoxyn, which -- like Ritalin and Adderall -- is commonly prescribed for ADD. As such, it is a schedule II substance in the U.S. (which makes cannabis' schedule I classification all the more ironic, in my opinion). In fact, amphetamine and methamphetamine have been used to treat ADD, and in some cases narcolepsy, since the mid-1930s.
Another interesting historical footnote is that amphetamines and metamphetamines were distributed freely to troops during World War II -- which certainly explains Germany's impossibly swift invasion of Poland in 1939 that sparked the war -- and the Korean War.
I'll share experiences (to a certain extent) if anyone has questions, and others certainly may, as well. Keep in mind that this is for informational purposes only, and should not in any way be contrived as encouragement toward using or judgement upon one who has used or does use any substance.edits 12 June 07 9:30pm

I won't touch the stuff.
I have a friend that used to be really big into it and it ******** up most of her life.
Luckily she has straightend out for the most part now. But before then she had been to nearly 11 different highschools alone.
Smoked every day, stayed up for weeks on end. Didn't shower, didn't do s**t.
She looked like total hell.
I'm glad she dropped that one. She sticks to drinking now. Cause she is on probation. Otherwise she would be smokeing the Ganja too.

Weeks on end?? WOW.
I don't mean 'wow' in a good way, or really a bad way -- just in a genuinely amazed way. I'd be up for two days, no problem... three days, still okay but not quite 'myself'... by the fourth day I'd be hallucinating and inches from sleep no matter how much I smoked. Then again, I can drink three cups of coffee and hit the hay; I'm still amazed that I can drink as much as I can and not fall into a coma, especially considering that my tolerance isn't really all that high. Just a little bit of something and I can feel it, but weed so far is the only thing that I can't at least keep up with everyone else. -_-
I've seen meth's worst effects on a few people, too, but at the same time I've seen other people who've taken it every day for years and haven't 'fallen' to it. Quality and quantity are both factors in that; two people can take the same relatively small amount, but one uses meth that is nearly pure and goes for years with no visible ill effects, while the other uses meth that is cut with a lot of who knows what and is a scarred, paranoid tweaker within a month. However, regulating it to a consistently small amount is very difficult, since one builds up tolerance so quickly, and taking a lot of it is always bad news.

My body metabolizes whatever steriod I was on when my liver inflamed like either meth or speed or something like that (I was lucky if I slept 2 hours a day for 2 months, had no appitite {hence losing 30+ lbs} and I would take everything off walls and out of drawers, put it back, and repeat). So I don't think I'd go and look out meth cause I didn't like that time period.
On a random note, I had a friend who was tripping on 4 blotters of LSD with some meth-heads, and he took a couple of lines of meth, spent 6+ hours talking about topics the LSD put him on, took a few more lines, and then decided to go to sleep to the shock and amazement of the other people on meth.

I mean, there's a few things that a person's body basically interprets as speed (if I'm remembering right, of course), but... that's a little... er... extreme. XD
But I tell you what, I have never before or since enjoyed my job so much as when I was slipping back to the toilet for a hit every few hours -- and my store at the time looked great! o_O;;RaveKitten13 On a random note, I had a friend who was tripping on 4 blotters of LSD with some meth-heads, and he took a couple of lines of meth, spent 6+ hours talking about topics the LSD put him on, took a few more lines, and then decided to go to sleep to the shock and amazement of the other people on meth. eek He... went... to sleep?? I ah... I'm going to have to digest that... after I wrap my head around it, somehow... if anyone hears me mumbling to myself, don't worry, it's normal... yeah, I think shock and amazement sums it up pretty well!

I never want to be a psudeo meth head again. Me and doctors lead to me not ever touching meth, any opiate, or any barbituate. Even when I'm giving perscriptions for Codine, Vicodin, or hydrocodone, I fill them and don't ever take them (find use though still). Apparently the LSD trip and talk had exhausted his mind enough that he was able to sleep despite being on a meth high.

Good thing you don't have athsma (...?) -- sis is allergic, too, which she found out after she'd been diagnosed and prescribed an inhaler. But I guess since she wasn't used to the inhaler yet, she actually took such a small amount that it was enough to convince her not to take more, but not enough that it was dangerous. This was years and years ago, though; she did grow out of the athsma, at least!
Cripes, that must have been a really heavy thinking session he'd been relating there!

I've never tried it, and never plan to. Although I do enjoy your article that was written on it - but I've got a contributation to make. Another word that's used for meth (and I didn't know until I met a meth addict) is Gank. Sounds weird, and I was a lil confused. She asked me if I wanted some and I said sure cause I didn't know what it was and thought it was another slang term for pot. Was veeery wrong. xD

Devilot Another word that's used for meth (and I didn't know until I met a meth addict) is Gank. I can say with absolute certainty that I've never heard that one before! If you don't mind, could I ask you your general location (east coast, midwest, etc)? I wonder if it's maybe a regional sort of term...

AddyAddict I prefer less harmful amphetamines like adderall, I'm like an addict of that s**t or something. There's no such thing as "less harmful"; amphetamines are amphetamines. Adderall just happens to come in a bottle instead of a baggie.

Adderall also doesn't ******** up your teeth and your brain and your face, it's not as strong therefore making it less harmful.
