The distinctive pad-THUNK-pad-pad bounced off the walls of the cabin interior as Hellboy wandered through the halls after his 'peaceful' walk through the woods. Peaceful? HAH! What was it about his appearance that just seemed to attract all manner of demented animals and plants.
Yes. Plants.
He limped to the log fire and just slumped onto the floor with the very heavy thud of his stone paw. His other paw, flesh and fur as it was, covered in pine needles after a certain tree just decided to drop its load. Evil tree.
Trying to be delicate, and failing terribly, Hellboy began to pick the pine needles from his flesh paw, swishing his tails about behind him.

Unfortunately for the blood red kitsusagi, he wasn't going to get the peace he probably wanted. Not long after he entered the home did another enter, the door pushing open and then kicking shut. "Why is it so HOT OUTSIDE?!" A squeaky voice crackled.
The source of the voice made herself known as Hex stepped forward into the same room as Hellboy. She blinked at him, cocking her head to the side. "Why ya sitting by the fire? Isn't it hot out to you?" She asked, his odd appearance not registering in her mind.

It took a lot to startle Hellboy. He had a natural inclination for being hard to scare. But the kitsu that stormed into the cabin - she was scary.
"No," he answered with a mouth full of plucked pine needles.
Just as she seemed a bit bemused with his appearance, as was he. He spat the needles out onto the floor, without a care for who might step on them.

The femme blinked, her pupiless eye void of emotion as they other seemed as energetic as she was. "Looks like ya had a fight with a pine tree and lost." She said, stepping around the needles and then plopping right next to him like she had been invited.
"Or a very angry squirrel pelted you with them."

Hellboy thought, for a brief moment, that this critter could read minds. Or she'd seen the spectacle and was poking fun. He stopped to look at her, new pine needles jutting from his mouth, and cocked one eyebrow as she sat herself down.
"Actually...thats what happened," he said, almost embarrassed to admit it. "I swear, the animals and plantlife around here are possessed. Or I just attract the wrong kind of crowd..."

Hex's eyebrows perked. So she had been right? Sweet. "Or you looked threatening and they wanted you away." She shrugged, her words possibly hurtful... but she didn't see it that way. "I've heard red is a very angry colour."
"I've been told that I look kinda evil. Or half of me anyway. Like I cast curses on people or something." She shrugged, rambling on about nothing in particular. "Maybe it's my eye. Or maybe it's your swollen arm." She gestured to his right stone arm.

"Gee...thanks for sugar-coating the obvious," he sneered, spitting out the pine needles to the side in an aggitated manner.
Hellboy knew lots about what people thought of him based just on his looks. It wasn't quite so bad since keeping his horns filed down, but still...a bald patch, two stubs, red fur and a friggin huge stone ornament grafted onto your body was a giveaway for something not quite right.
Speaking of which...
"Well, you DO look the suspicious type," he teased. "Odd eyes are the sign of the devil, you know."
He chuckled, and shifted his stone paw at the mention of it. It even made the sound of stone grinding against stone.

There was a moment of silence as she stared at him, eyes getting wider.
"Seriously?" She asked stupidly. "I didn't know that..."

If Hellboy had been drinking, he'd have done a spit-take. He looked at her, smile kind of sliding off his face as he realised Hex was...for lack of a better word...clueless.
"Y'know I was just...joking, right?" he hedged the question, not quite sure how to handle this critter now.
All of the pine needles were now excavated from his flesh paw, so he gave it a cursory lick to keep it clean and then never though about it much. Mentally, he began cycling through the charms in his pockets...just in case...

There was another pause. "Oh." Her ears drooped. "Well I thought you were serious or something, jeez." She huffed a sigh.
But like clockwork, everything was soon forgotten and pushed aside. "So what's your name anyway?"

He braced himself for a female verbal bashing when he heard that sigh, but was mildly surprised to find she was calm. Well, if she had a curse, it was patience. Which was a good thing as far as Hellboy was concerned.
"Err...I'm Hellboy," he bowed his head. And you?"

"Hex." The femme smiled, the skull-like side of her face turning up and looking like someone straight from New Orleans. "Heh, we both have H-names." She smiled, finding the tiniest little things amusing.

"Yeeeesss...well done," he replied, nodding his head and smiling.
Without another word, he suddenly stood up on all fours and stretched his aching legs, making growning, grunting noises as he did so. He shook his whole body, as though shaking away water, making his jacket jingle and tinkle with the charms. A small, rolled up piece of paper escaped his attention as it fell from a pocket in his coat. Hellboy slumped back down beside Hex.
"So...what were you complaining about when you stormed in? Being too hot?"

"Yeah, it's really hot outsi- OH WHAT'S THIS!?" Hex grinned and plucked the piece of paper off the ground. She unrolled it with her paws to see what it was, totally disregarding the fact that it might have been Hellboy's.

Hellboy cocked an eyebrow and leaned his blocky head in to take a closer look at the paper. It was probably just a spell or protection circle that had fallen from his pocket...
But as Hex unfurled the paper, and Hellboy saw the drawing and the words of his true name, he panicked.
"ACK! YOU CAN'T READ THAT!" he verbally flailed, slamming his rock paw down onto the paper in an attempt to obscure Hex's view.
