First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong forum...anyway...

Has anyone here heard of or played the Trauma Center series of games for the Nintendo DS or Wii? I have, and I must say, though I have very limited knowledge of medical science, I must say I find the game a bit impressive, but rather unrealistic. Though I do believe some of the operations done are probable.

The story, in a nutshell, involves young doctor Derek Stiles who is a descendant of the Greek God of Medicine Asclepius, who possesses the ability of superhuman concentration, allowing him to perform operations in split seconds. He has to battle against the viral threat of an evil organization trying to destroy the world.

What else do you guys think about this?

True, it's rather interesting. Though I believe that a good majority of the procedures/techniques presented in surgeries are real, the accuracy in portraying such sciences is what I'm critical on (such as viruses that are as big as a small ladybug, or a worm that attaches itself onto the host's muscle fibers, ultimately bonding with the host)

I played and finished the DS version, and I was pissed at certain operations like the five patients in 10 minutes thing. The time limit was too short to work relaxedly enough to get a high score...-_-

It sounds like these so-called viruses are more of a parasite or bacteria type of infectious diseases. I haven't heard of the game but I would like to have a go at it. Maybe this will turn the mases towards the sciences!

I've played both verisions of the game. They are quite fun! True, they are very unrealistic, but I still love the idea behind it.

For those who haven't heard of the game - Click here to read the Wikipedia Article

@Ang - Yup! I hope so ^ ^ but then being a simulation, caution should be used to avoid confusing fantasy with reality... wink

@Ziekara - Waaa!!! gonk I want to play the Wii version! It sounds really fun! sweatdrop

It's pretty fun. It's basically the same game though. I thought because of the different title it was a different game, but it's not. I like the controls better on the wii even though they are a bit more difficult sweatdrop

Here's a little simplified description about the viruses/parasites, which are basically all manmade, and all named after the Greek days of the week...

Kyriaki (Sunday) - Small, lamprey like viruses with a blade-like tail that causes internal lacerations.

Deftera - A tumor that comes in two varieties that attack each other on contact. Moves by replicating itself onto other cells.

Triti - A triangular membranous mass, attached to tissue with thorns on each corner, that slowly petrifies affected organs. As parts of the membrane are removed, the mass will spread according to the placement of the thorns.

Tetarti - A ladybug like virus that comes in three varieties, each secreting poisonous abscess. Attacks the liver.

Pempti - A gelatinous membrane that fills the lungs.

Paraskevi - A fibrous wormlike virus that, if it reaches the heart, will kill the host.
Savato - A spiderlike virus that attacks the heart, wrapping it in a weblike substance to drain it of energy. Spawns multiple immature organisms and can create lacerations.

I've seen something about it on Nintendo power. I have a Wii, but I really don't see much good games out for it yet. *waiting patiently for Kingdom hearts 3*

The game does sound interesting though.

You should keep your eyes out for Trama Center then. It's a pretty good game and I do love the surgery-as-a-video-game idea too.

Not to get off-topic...but if you want a good Wii game, try Super Paper Mario. Seriously, best Wii game available right now xd

The Wii version is a bit harder then the DS version, but the graphics are much better.

I have heard about it but I think it could be a little easier than surgery is because your patient could die anytime in real life and you really never know what's going to happen to them all the time really... Sorry if I'm not saying anything that makes sense I rarely ever do though. Heh sweatdrop

True, you can't possibly account for all real life situations in a game...but then the patient dying at any time is a very real situation they incorporated.
