I was just curious if anybody here wears Egyptian style makeup. I personally think Egyptian eyeliner looks really cool, but whatever. I live in Phoenix, and it's super hot here, so I'd where that stuff to beat the heat if it wasn't so "strange" to do so.

I used to make my eyes looks Egyptian last year, but since then I kind of lost the interest to do it again, lol. But if I find that picture I'll show you.
I wear Egyptian jewellery though.

Ubat i use to put on the eye makeup, but a little toned down and lines not much past the lashes out the side, to try and make it not too noticable. : can never really keep up with putting on makeup tho sweatdrop I love the Egyptian style of eyeliner as well, and even though I usually hate make-up (it makes me feel like I have dust and mud caked on my face... which techincally, I do sweatdrop )- I did try it for a short time. But like Ubat, I prefer to keep it subtle- even subliminal. I do this whenever I adapt spiritual or cultural expression into my wardrobe. I don't like to wear my religion on my sleeve, and I think it's obnoxious when someone's clothing screams "LOOK AT ME I'M AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN!!!!" Especially since, obviously, they're not. We will never completely recreate the ancient culture, although we can learn a great deal from it which will make our modern culture healthier, wiser, and more functional. So I also tried a light lining of the eyes, with barely extended corners... but make-up doesn't work well on me. My features are so bright and colorful anyway that anything added on top tips me over into overload- I think I look like a painted peacock. So I had to abandon that idea, but yeah- I think it's cool when other people can pull it off. cool

I can't wear any cosmetics... It hurts my skin too much. sweatdrop And if I could, I'd go lightly on it anyways... Although I apparently look catlike enough to pull off wearing heavy kohl and the like...
I'm all for Egyptian-type jewelry and symbols, though. 3nodding

Well, one time, Beth (a friend of mine) made my eyes look Egyptian. It was fun. Then one Halloween, Jessica's mom (Jessica's another friend of mine) lent me an Egyptian necklace. It was sooooooooo pretty! And that's about it. mrgreen

Since I'm classified into the "goth" stereotype and style of dress, I can wear pretty much whatever I feel like, makeup, jewelry, or otherwise, and no one thinks it out of the ordinary. cool But I don't do it often unless I have time to spend on my appearance in the morning, since because of early band rehearsal I usually wind up falling out of bed, throwing jeans and a hoodie on, grab some jewelry off the desk, and put on some mascara and eyeliner before racing out the door.
But I do have an Eye of Horus pendant on a chain that I never take off. It's gotten to the point that I feel insecure without it gonk

I've always wanted to wear the Egyptian eye make-up style, but eyeliner doesn't work well with me. I always smudge it, or it gets uneven and makes my eyes look deformed. gonk

I'm all for the Egyptian jewelry, too! The handy thing is that there are many symbols and designs which are meaningful, but not widely known- so I can still wear cultural and religious symbols without giving up my preference for subtlety. As a Pagan growing up in the Deep South, I also found that a small golden ankh was far less conspicuous than the pewter pent I used to wear when I was Wiccan. Ever notice how nearly all Pagan or occult jewelry is silver? And a great deal of it is pretty huge, too... Wear something small and gold and people don't even look twice (unless they're Pagan, and know that you are... I got a few double takes from folks who thought I'd converted, lol!). xd Nevira Shadowfire But I do have an Eye of Horus pendant on a chain that I never take off. It's gotten to the point that I feel insecure without it gonk I had a bronze Skhmt pendant which I used to wear all the time- even in the shower and through the night. It was fine for a while, but then my chest started feeling- and looking- sunburned. Underneath my clothes! eek It was a while before I connected it to the amulet, but once I did and I stopped wearing it for a while the burn was able to heal. So then I started thinking that perhaps it wasn't a good idea to have such a powerful solar goddess strapped around my neck all the time... I put the amulet away for several weeks before wearing it again, and these days when I wear it it's only for the day. It comes off when I shower, and goes on the altar overnight. I also have a beautiful Bast pendant which hasn't given me any problems, though. These days I take it off and put it on the altar overnight out of habit, but I'm sure I could wear it if I ever needed any extra protection through the night. I also have some earrings which resemble stylized solar disks with rays, and a pair of hematite earrings carved into the shape of the ma'at-plinth (not the feather, the plinth). They're my two favorite pairs, and only someone who really knew me and really knew their egyptology would be able to spot the significance.

Eek! eek I've never been burned like that before. But I only wear sterling silver, pewter, and/or steel, so that also could have something to do with it. I have contact dermatitis with bronze gonk And silver goes better with my complexion, anyway 3nodding Heh...my pendant is pretty small, but I tug at it a lot...the only time I got chewed out for it was when I was working and some woman who I never saw again was absolutely convinced I was going to hell. stare I used to have this really awesome pair of pewter ankh earrings on long chains, but I lost one gonk I was devastated until I decided to wear the ankh on my right ear and a simple silver hoop on the left...people thought it was even cooler than when I had matching earrings surprised ...

I've a friend who enjoys decorating her face that way. With her caramel colored skin, it looks lovely. Her features work well with the style, and she's gotten it to look very elaborate before. I would, but I'm allergic to most makeup and I've yet to gather the money for the Bare Minerals brand stuff. Soon I hope...
