I set this up as a means to RP Zephy hatching, and also for them to make some friends/enemies, so forth. Bring in a Normal, Nightmare, Angelic, any critter you like. This is set in the Waterfall area of the Kitsu Mountain territory.

Characters I am using:
Zeph - http://www.meetthefantasy.com/kitsusagi/Nightmare/TheCataclysm.gif
Hale'oki - http://nightmare.kitsusagi.net/haleoki.jpg

-----------------------------

Hale'oki had spent her time exploring the Mountains since her first venture out into the areas where Kitsusagi different from herself roamed freely. The cold lands smelled of death at some times, and there was even less food in this new territory, but she felt content, and safer while she was travelling alone. She had explored ice caves, partially frozen over ponds. Wherever she found something small to kill (such as a rabbit) she knocked it down with her giant claws and ate it whole, raw.

A number of days ago however, she had discovered something quite different from her normal food in her travels through the ice caves. She had stumbled across it quite by accident. It had been abandoned, partially wedged in the ice, partially hidden in the rocks. It may as well have been one of the rocks themselves for all she knew. She had tripped over it as she ventured past, the large... hornlike protrusions that stuck out of it had hooked her paw as she walked past, and sent her splayed out onto the cave floor.

Hale'oki casually rose to her feet again as if nothing happened and moved back to inspect the object. She ran a claw over it's topside, tapping it with her bony maw in an attempt to get a better mental picture as to what it was. Her initial guess was that it was food, at least until she felt a strange aura emanating from it.

It was alive.

She tapped it again, nudged it with her snout, before finally discovering what it was. An egg! A Nightmare Kitsusagi egg at that. But... what was it doing out here in the caves? Hale gently plucked it up in her teeth and resumed walking on her way.

That was five days ago.

----

Today, she was at the western edge of the Mountain territory, near the sound of a creek. She dug up moles and other ground dwelling creatures, as well as truffles, so forth. The egg she had found in the ice caves remained nearby, warmed by the light of the sun. Just why had she taken it with her? Not even she was sure herself. She hated children, kits, baby animals in general. They were annoying and too hyper for her tastes. She snorted and returned to her digging. It was easy with powerful claws, and she could hear the rodents moving around in the groung underneath her. But catching them? That was another story altogether.

Just then, a quiet cracking noise could be heard in the direction of the egg she was taking care of. The sound sent the adult female Kitsusagi into a torrent of wild defensive hisses - she couldn't see or smell any nearby threats, but the fact that it sounded like it was being damaged was convincing enough for her.

"Get the hell away from there!!" She bellowed, puffing out her chest. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up with her anger, and the fur on her tails was puffed out. She bounded over to the egg and stood over it, snarling. But there was nobody around to be any kind of threat. And the cracking noise continued.

The tiny occupant inside was confused. What was that loud noise? He wanted to know... there were so many noises outside that he wanted to know about. He wiggled around inside his egg, tiny limbs flailing about as he tried to squeeze against the egg walls for more room.

"Mrrr-rrt!" He chirped in frustration. He rammed his head upwards, his tiny horn stubs breaching the top of the egg, cracking the top off the egg. After several more moments of struggling, the tiny creature finally had managed to wiggle his way out of the calcium-shell prison, his bony-hard nose sucking in his first breaths. He lay on the ground and began to pant. Hatching was a very tiring exercise. The world out here was very different. All around him he 'saw' hazy shades of colour. He had no eyes to speak of thanks to the eons old Nightmare's curse being passed onto him as well, but he had been born with the gift of being able to sense aura, the energy inside of all living things. He saw the grass moving in the wind in his own way, a tree nearby, the fish in the stream. He could see the energies of everything around him within a radius of a few feet, and it confused him terribly.

"Mrr-eep eep!" He squeaked, shivering. He curled his tails around himself in a defensive manner. He wasn't sure why, but the feeling was comforting.

Meanwhile, Hale had her head down, her ears perked, having listened to much of the activity at her paws. She made a soft gentle rumbling noise to the newcomer, and reached over to lightly nudge it with a clawed paw.

"Calm down," She grunted at him. "You're safe."

Hale raised her head, turning her head as if to look all around her, her ears perked high on her head, listening to the noises all around her for signs of movement. She felt rather silly with this baby at her feet. What the hell was she supposed to do with it anyway?

User ImageA horrible, high-pitched shriek rang throughout the serene waterfall, quickly swallowed by the roar of the water that spilled from the lip of the cliff far above. Something rustled sporadically throughout the rough underbrush, and a flash pearly white scabbled here and there, its matted tails lashing furiously behind its sleek body. Neon purple lights flashed up and down the little beast's sides, and the telltale Nobody symbol encrested upon its forehead flickered with the same, deep indigo shade. What matter of creature would be so foolish as to prowl around so close to two Nightmare Kitsusagi?

Psychotic insanity, thy name is Genzu.

Parting its zippered jaws to gnash strange, metallic teeth, the eyeless creature let out another shrieking cackle of glee, wriggling its tiny body forward out of the foilage to leer at the pair of Nightmares. Though without eyes, the little beast could obviously somehow 'see' them, the lights that lined its body beginning to flicker with excitement.

Snapping his jaws delightedly, Genzu kept his distance for now, continuing to make those eerie, irritating sounds, mixtures of cackles and screeches and God knows what else. Without warning, the little Nobody flattened himself to the ground and proceeded to stalk closer, ears pressed flat against his skull with excitement. Ohh, nasty nasty, two nasties! No where near as nasty as his master, of course. The kit's tails fluffed with pride at the thought, quite affectionate of his irritable, stabbing-proned master, who he hadn't seen for quite some time.

As though rebelling against the ability to speak itself, the Dusk continued to shriek and screech and moan, generally creating quite a ruckus as it peered at Hale'oki and the newborn. What now? Would they get close enough so he could bite?

While she couldn't see the Dusk Kitsusagi, Hale'oki could hear him more than well enough. The noise was like a sledgehammer to her skull and she winced slightly at the pain it brought to hear such a dreadful racket so well. Her ears pinned back against the sides of her head in reaction to the maddening cacophony she could hear approaching. A low defensive rumble began in her chest, and she curled her lips back, baring her teeth. She flicked her tongue out of her mouth to get a better taste of the scents in the air, quickly identifying the smell of the newcomer amongst the smell of pines and grass in the area around her.

While she couldn't see it, her ears told her all she needed to know about it's location for the time being. The fact that it was getting closer, added with the noises he was making filled her with a sense of immense nervousness. Was she afraid? Maybe. But she wasn't about to let that fact on any time soon.

"Keeee-auwrrgghh!!" She opened her hard bony red and white maw and screeched, the noise ending in a roar. Her brows furrowed in a deep scowl, and she made a loud snarling noise before finally speaking.

"Just what are you, a banshee?" She rumbled angrily in his general direction, the fur on her tails puffed out in an attempt to make herself look bigger than she already was. "And just what the hell are you making that noise for? Are you possessed? State your reason for being here at once!"

Meanwhile, Zephyr lifted his head, seeming awed, fascinated by the newcomer's 'appearance' in his perception. Sparkling purple lights lit up like a Christmas tree in his aura-senses. He saw a purple shape that flashed and sparkled. It was much more interesting and colourful than the big aura that had been standing over him when he hatched.

"Mrr-rrrp rrrp rrrp!" He chirped in response to the screeches, calling out to the newcomer. He raised his head and sniffed the air, trying to catch a scent of him.

Snff snff!

He couldn't smell anything. It didn't occur to him yet that his sense of smell was horridly detrimented. But maybe this pretty purple one knew where food was?

"Rrrrm-mrp!" He stated as loudly as he could, trying to express with sounds that he was hungry.

User ImageThe bellowing roar was enough to have the little Dusk freeze, his head jerking up in alarm and his tails puffing out. What sort of sound had that been?! Almost as soon as it had ended, though, an angry rumble of a voice pierced the silence, and Genzu let out a chittering cackle. He didn't speak, the poor thing, or at least, not very well. "No!" It all but cooed with delight, that being his favorite (and one of his only) word that he could manage without that dreadful zipper getting in the way.

The Dusk wriggled closer, oblivious to the she-Nightmare's threatening posture and her ability to do him harm. "Scuttling!" Genzu cackled once more, doing his best to at least explain what he was up to--nothing good. The chirping, however, gave him pause, a trill fluttering throughout his plated chest as he gave pause to peer at the baby Nightmare.

The lights skipped a beat for a moment as Genzu understood that it was, somewhat, being spoken too, twisting its large head in order to listen better. They sped up again, flashing crazily as the Dusk twitched and pranced in place, quite good at the 'you have a new order' game. With another eerie peal of laughter, it slunk off towards the forest, clattering its zipper-mouth from time to time. Food, yes? Or...whatever he could get his nasty little paws on.

He returned shortly afterwards, quite pleased with himself the way his tails swished to-and-fro. And what did he have? Sticks, a rock, flowers...even a frog. The Dusk chattered and squealed mindlessly at the Nightmare kit, using his blunt little snout to nudge the found treasures towards him. Would this do?

"Scuttling?" Hale'oki raised a brow at the answer, taken aback by it. She had expected fear, perhaps a paranoid response. It had taken her off guard so much that she was silent for several moments, her tails swaying behind her as she pondered the statement.

"Well. Scuttle somewhere else." She retorted finally. "Just don't come here posing a threat. Understood?" She rumbled slightly, noting that the youth seemed quite responsive to the newcomer. Moreso than her. Perhaps she could shuffle off the responsibilty of the youth onto him instead?

Meanwhile, Zephyr squeaked with happiness at the pretty purple coloured aura, and the lights. It had captured his curiousity completely now, and he attempted to stand on his feet so he could bound after it. He took two steps and tumbled back down onto his belly. Nope, his legs weren't stable enough just yet.

"Mrrr-errp errp eep!" He squeaked again, driven by instinct, chirping to the Dusk Kitsu in the same manner that he would to a sibling or a parent. He seemed discouraged as it bounded away, and his ears drooped. Perhaps he didn't try hard enough to gain it's attention?

But what was this? The pretty aura was returning!

"Eeeeep!" He squealed with gusto now, and his entire lung capacity. He chirruped a loud 'thank you' as the gifts were presented to him, wagging his tails to express his happiness. He poked the rock with his bony maw - not food. Neither were the sticks. But the flowers? He chewed them up quickly, screwing his face up a bit at the bitter taste. He licked the frog, then swallowed it whole, seeming a little more satisfied.

He once again attempted to rise to his feet. This time he managed it, although shaky and sloppy in his steps. He slowly made his way over to the Dusk Kitsu and flopped down again beside it, attempting to snuggle up against it for warmth.

User ImageHis ears flicked rapidly towards the older Nightmare, and the little Nobody allowed his zippered jaws to sag open in a ferocious looking 'grin'. He wouldn't be mean to the little nasty! No, no, it made such funny noises--Genzu was enraptured. Hunching its little shoulders, the Dusk giggled insanely as Zephyr inspected the things it had brought. And then he went and ate both flowers and frog, something that sent Genzu into peals of screeching glee. What else could it find for the baby to eat?!

Genzu screeched in warning as the other got up, shuffling and scuttling backwards out of concern for its own well-being. Without warning, the little creature had flopped down beside it, and the Dusk held itself quite still, chittering and moaning and squalling. It wasn't going to eat him, was it?

Curiosity and its lack of ability to feel anything, not just fear, soon had the Nobody eagerly poking his muzzle at the Nightmare's head, openly amused with his horns. A few nibbles were offered, metallic teeth gnashing noisly against the hard, bone-like appendages, and the Dusk pronounced itself satisfied. It didn't mind that it was being used as a heat-source, lashing his little tails with glee.

With that, the strange creature began to screech softly to its newly chosen 'companion', the neon-purple lights across its forearms and up the sides of its body constantly flashing with light. For not having a heart, the Dusk seemed to be a crazily friendly little monster.

Hale'oki seemed quite alarmed now. Why was this creature making so many noises? Hissing, chattering, screeching, laughing... she didn't know of any cause for it. Was something funny looking? Could it see, and was it seeing something she couldn't? She made a low rumbling noise at that possibility and stayed nearby, not trusting the screechy loud Kitsusagi one bit.

"I do not understand you," She grunted. "Are you normal in the head?"

Zephyrizon made soft chirruping sounds as he was poked at, not seeming to mind too much about it. He put his ears down so that Genzu could have a proper chew of his horns, keeping his head still, assuming his new friend was playing with him. He didn't want to stab his new friend already with his horns.

"Frrr-rt rrt rtt!" He announced casually to the pretty lights as they began another display. He playfully pawed in the direction of Genzu's side with a clawed paw, pushing at him slightly. Sapphire blue and ashen-grey tails wagged happily. He was content for now.

User Image"Nyao?" The Dusk let his jaws hang open, swiveling his head around to 'grin' at the older Nightmare with glee. Normal? What was that? If the stupid grin, accompanied with a shrill giggle didn't answer her, well..."Nasty." He suddenly purred at her, promptly shrieking with glee once more before returning his attention to the baby.

Well, the Nobody certainly wouldn't resist an open invitation to gnaw! Giggling madly to itself, the Dusk let out a hissing screech of victory before snapping its little jaws shut around one horn. Ferocious noises of glee bubbled up within its plated chest, and, after offering a few remotely feeble tugs, was satisfied enough to let go.

The pretty lights in question only quickened their pattern once addressed, and Genzu was only too proud to display them. The little Nobody was so distracted, however, that he practically toppled onto his face at the push. With a screech of outrage, he hissed and spat and generally seemed inclined to throw a fit...before shutting up with a cheery sort of cluck and offered a bold nudge to the other's side with that big head of his.

"Nasty?" Hale repeated, confusion betraying her normally annoyed demeanor. "Shut up - you're one to talk. You are who keeps making those awful headache-inducing noises." She made a rumbling growl and pinned her ears back. Hale was quite fed up of the creature now to say the least.

On the other hand, Zephyrizon was greatly amused. He was having fun as well. He didn't understand why this other Kitsu was so happy to chew on his horns, even pull on them, but if it kept him close for more play, he would continue to allow it.

Oops. He soon pinned his ears back however, as he 'watched' his new friend topple off balance at his playful shove. He was even more apologetic and defensive as he heard the other hiss and spit about it - he really hadn't meant to push him over.

"Rrrt. Rmmm..." He said in the most pitiful voice he could muster. He was relived to watch the other immediately happy again though. He loudly squeed with happiness as Genzu nudged his side in return, and he rolled onto his belly, imitating his friend's same falling action he had seen just now.

It all seemed like one big game to him. Which didn't matter, because he was utterly happy in playing it.
