This has been bugging me to no end for the last three months, actually, pretty much since my son was born. I have rather long hair, I've been growing it out for the last three years (it was nearly to my waist, I had it cut to a length of about two inches, and it now hits the bottom of my shoulder blades). Unfortunately it has been steadily shedding ever since November xp I'm not sure how much of that is stress, lack of regular care, or lack of proper vitamins but I've lost what seems to be nearly a third of my hair gonk
I'm planning on getting it cut back to a much shorter length soon but I was wondering if anyone else went through this. It's a pain in the neck and I'd feel much better knowing I wasn't the only one. Also, since Richard is only a bit less than four months old will he freak out if I make such a drastic change to my appearance?

It seemed like my hair went through a period after I gave birth where ever time I'd brush it, lots would come out. But if you've lost a third of your hair, that sounds pretty extreme. Have you talked to your doctor about it?
And how observant is Richard? If it's something you'd think he'd notice, you could maybe try just trimming it every few days until it's the desired length so he doesn't realize it's changing? If you can wear a hat or glasses, and it doesn't seem to bother him, then he probably wouldn't mind the haircut either.
I know a lot of new moms who cut off their hair right after they had a baby. It's a lot less to worry about 3nodding

I'm most likely over-estimating the amount, it's just a bit distressing though sweatdrop
That sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately I don't have the money to go to the hair salon that many times xp I'm not really sure how he'll react to me having short hair. He seems fine whenever I wear a hat but the other night my father-in-law had just gotten home and still had his hat on when I brought Richard over and the poor babe totally freaked out.

I highly doubt he'll even notice, just get a hair cut and stop sweating the small stuff. At this age, he's more focused on your face and that isn't changing.
My hair recently stopped falling out at an accelerated rate and I had Ethan 9 months ago. When the hormones leave your body, your hair goes with. When you were pregnant, you probably noticed you weren't losing as much as you normally would. It's all part of the process.

I wouldn't freak out over it so much. It's not that big of a deal unless you're seriously losing clumps of hair. When I was pregnant, my hair didn't get thicker, perse, but I know I wasn't losing hair. It's just a normal process of the adjustments of hormones (I regularly lose handfuls of hair and I have hair down to my butt).
If nothing else is going to comfort you, talk with your doctor. Sometimes it CAN be a hormone related problem, but I'm just guessing with a 4 month old, it's postpartum hormone adjustments.
As for the "drastic" change in appeareance, your baby will adjust fine. Like Dirge said, your baby focuses on your face. He'll know it's you and if you act nervous, he'll pick up on it however.

Thank you everyone! I didn't realize it was a hormone thing lol It will still be easier to deal with at a shorter length, I better find the number for the hair dresser xd

I cut my hair off a few months after Zoe was born. It didn't really seem to phase her. I didn't cut my hair off because it would be easier to fix in the mornings. I cut it off because my hair had gotten excessively knotty during pregnancy and never recovered. Besides the lack of knots in my hair after I got it cut, it was actually harder to deal with short because I couldn't pull it into a ponytail. However, the short haircut was more flattering to me and I'm glad I got it cut.

Oh, oops. I meant you could trim it yourself a little bit, and then for the final haircut, go to a salon to even it out smile

Actually it's very common to have hair loss during & after childbirth. I would start to get concerned though & consult my Dr. if it continued for much longer, 3 months is a long time already confused
