Impressive title. surprised Anyway, the following did really happen. It was quite entertaining at the time and continues to be the subject of several jokes among my RL high school friends when we happen to get together. 3nodding
My high scool is the onldest one in the region, so we traditionally host all the scholastic tournaments. The tourney in question occurred in my sophomore year (3 years ago). I remember it like it was yesterrday...
*flashback effects ending with hazy cloud* *Hazy could parts showing an old auditorium from the back. It's filled with rows of old wood and metal chairs and a hardwood stage with a podium off to one side. In between the rows of chairs and the stage, 2 folding tables are set up, one on each side. The left side has 1 adult and 1 high-schooler, answer-checkers for the math tournament being held today, and the one on the right holds two teens doing the timing. The subject is precalculus, and the team has been selected at random from people working the tournament since none was preselected or trained in this subject. I was there and ended up on it with 2 friends, Ashley (a ditsy blonde) and Michael (one of my best buds from band). We sit in the center of the auditorium as questions are projected above the stage.*
An integration question is flashed. We, being sophomores, haven't even seen one of these before and have no idea what the hell it is. Me (holds pencil over answer sheet): What should we write? Michael: No clue... sad Ashley (a mischievious look on her face): ...Chewbacca. Michael and I crack up quietly (the auditorium is basically silent). One of our good friends, Alex (a chorus girl), is the answer checker at the moment. Ashley: I know Alex'll get a kick out of this one... Let's do it. Me (chuckles): Hilarious... I don't want to get in trouble with the teacher, though... Alshley: I'll write it then. twisted Michael: I can't wait to see the look on her face...
Time runs out, and Alex gets our answer.
She busts out laughing in a silent auditorium. xd *flashback ends*
Forever more after that day, whenever anyone who's heard this story ever gets to a question they don't know the answer to, they say "Chewbacca" in the hopes that it buys them some time to think or gets a laugh or a baffled expression out of the questioner. xd
