Our percussion section.
and sometimes our trumpet section.
so we're tuning... and all we can hear
bang!
*voices*
drum sticks
crash symbol

"Hey can you guys be quiet? we're trying to tune..."

bang
voices
drum sticks
bells
chimes
breaking instruments

um... don't you get it?
SHUT UP!
i'm serious. like we'll ask them, yell at them, send them outside make them sit in the front of the damn room and they still talk while we warm up while we play while we tune.
the worst part?
yeah no you haven't read the worst of it.
They dont play!
they just sit there with this dumb look on their face (or talk etc. etc.)
so then we ask them to play, and they getjup look around and sit back down again.
look at the music, find a part that isn't covered (oh sorry we have 2 percussionists who actually try) [out of like 12]
THEY DON"T GET IT!
i don't get it.

how do you tell a deaf stupid percussion section how to shut up, listen and play only when they're supposed to?

f*ckin a.
sorry;

I feel for you. One of our percussionists just learned to read music last year. We're juniors, and he started playing in...uh...fourth grade...yeah... Our percussion is pretty well trained, except for when the choir kids are in class. But they act up every once-in-a-while too. *huggles*

I know how u feel. Our percussion section doesn't even bring music!!! And then when our BD asks if they have music, they lie and say they do!! I mean, it's kind of obvious u don't have music if u sit there and play the same note THE WHOLE SONG. lolz. Our BD called the percussion section Ghetto once 2. lolz.

Ours has two people who actually know where their music is and how to use everything back there.

Two.

Out of seven. >.< And one of them is a timpani/chimes specialist.

The only real use for a percussion section is P.D.Q. Bach's Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion. They're actually SUPPOSED to drop things there!

One of ours kicked over the stand with the traps on it at festival once O.o I'm surprised our director didn't impale them with the baton right then and there!

its sad cuz they're perfect in marching band!
my bd is cracking down a bit. somtimes we all just yell "DO SOMETHING" but she never acts on what they do. they're dumbasses.
yeah we've got 2 out of i think like 10 percussionists who do something.
i just got braces so i was just walking around the room looking at peoples parts and this guy chris looks at me in the middle of a song and asks where we are and i'm like... okay...
so i go and look at the piece he's looking at and point to where he'll be in like 4 measures and right after my bd calls out the measure number and he's still confused its like he can't read music! course he was on marimba which i'm sure he can't really play.
but yeah its sad when someone who hasn't even seen the music let alone play it can find where you are.

our trumpet section are such ****** ughhhhhh!

We used to have problems with our percussion, too. But mostly because the staff member that was over them was really arrogant, you might say. The section was excellent, but he just...grrr. He was always butting heads with our BD. Like when our BD would knock the tempo back on a song were were struggling with and the percussion staff guy would refuse to have the drumline go that slow. They'd worked it up to tempo, so he felt they needed to keep it there and push the rest of the band needed to be at that level, too. >.>

Today, we were working on our "Trumpet concherto in Eb major" and there's this part where nobody plays except first clarinets, and I was the only one there today, so I was happily tooting along, when I think my BD actually stopped conducting, and I was still playing, thinking he was stil going, because I was the only one playing....Or maybe he was just saying "thank you" alot because I was the only one playing, and I have a reputation for being very quiet... burning_eyes I could've just shot myself then and there...

So I guess I hate myself for it!

Wow thats bad ours isn't allowed to sit down because they go to sleep(or some do) and the get yelled at all the time by Mrs.M for not covering parts and playing while she's talking.

I know exactly what your speaking of. We were playing the other day, and the percussionists (only two in that period) were feeling lazy so they weren't playing. Instead, they were having a conversation. Now, they were considerate enough to stay quiet, whihc was a nice change from the norm. Problem is, Grand Pause. Yeh. So the band is playing, powerful moment, intense silence. Just kidding. Instead, we hear Chris blabbing about his day. We stop and look over, he's got headphones on and doesn't even notice us. grrrr. That bugged me a lot. We didn't even finish the song. It was one more chord, but our BD was pissed as all hell and let it be.
