We're playing this song this year in our concert line-up. Our band is playing roughly eight songs in total, because we were the ONLY band chosen to play at a the TMEA convention (Tennessee Music Educators of America).
Our line-up is: Fanfare for a Golden Sky by Scott Boerma An American Elegy by Frank Tichelli (abridged; we changed a lot of it so that we sing the Columbine Alma Mater.) The Volunteer March by John Philip Sousa Divertimento for Band (Consisting of three movements we're playing: I. Ragtime, II. Blues, III. Mambo Loco.) Giants of the Past (the TMEA "theme song") Abram's Pursuit by David R. Holsinger Conterto (for Oboe and Orchestra) by Domenico Cimarosa
It's kick-a**. 8P

We have to play a big program this year, since we were the only band selected to play at that convention. Which, means we're special, because we were chosen out of college and high school bands abound. :3
Abram's Pursuit is bad a**. In my opinion, it's certainly one of the easier ones, though. I'd rather play +176 any day, as oppose to the first movement of the Concerto at a whopping 80 bpm. It kills my chops, which doesn't happen very often. It shouldn't; seeing as I play clarinet.
You should hear The Volunteer March, though. It's amazing, because there's a rivet gun in it! And a siren, and hammer + ply wood = BANG! It makes me love John Sousa all over again.

i'll have to listen to that 3nodding
but yes, i'd rather play fast than slow, kills my chops, and im trumpet so it's always "BLOW HARDER IT'S NOT LOUD ENOUGH!" b/c my section is retarted sometimes are won't play loud stare

We did Abram's Pursuit several years ago as a marching show, it was pretty awesome. and insanely fast on the field.
We're playing An American Elegy in concert band right now. You'd certainly have to cut up the song a bit to stick the whole thing in there, seeing as only three measures show up in the entire piece.

That sounds like it'd be a kick-a** show. I can't imagine marching that fast, though. I think the fastest song we've ever marched (while I marched) was around 124... I think. I forget. 8P
An American Elegy is pretty... To abridge it we took out measures 47-73. Then at measure 131, we edited it to pause with fading chime tones, and then we sing the Columbine Alma Mater. Then, we come back in on the pick-up of 132. It's pretty awesome. :3

Yep. We marched Abrams. Along with Sinfonia Voci and On a Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss. All composed by Holsinger and illegally arranged by our BD.
I guess those cuts in Elegy work, our BD is trying to get a copy of the Alma Mater so we can see what the whole thing is.

lol that's so kewl! we could never do that
we have one festival we march at, that's it. and we can't go over ten minutes in it, so we can't do to long a show. probally better that way, everyone is in sports after school (including me) so we don't get much practice time

We also have to keep shows around ten minutes. That's probably why we play such fast music.

We play seven to ten-minute songs, and they're always amazing. This year was West Side Story, but I liked last year's show better. It had all jazz songs, Dirty Boogie, and some other songs I can't recall the name of but can remember how they go. 8P I wish I could find my shirt from that year. =_=;
