Our battles they may find us
No choice may ours to be
But hold the banner proudly
The truth will set us free

My mind was called across the years
Of rages and of strife
Of all the human misery
And all the waste of life
....
Is it not our place to wonder
As the sky does weep with tears
And all the living creatures
Look on with mortal fear

It is ours to hold the banner
Is ours to hold it long
It is ours to carry forward
Our love must make us strong

Welcome to the Heritage roleplay event! Everyone is highly encouraged to participate as there will be chances to get all sorts of goodies for your dragon. Furthermore, I will be watching very closely for dragons to Ascend or Fall. So watch your actions accordingly and you may just find your dragon facing the choice to claim a pair of wings of their very own and to leave the earth and the Dragon-Bound behind…

The plot for Heritage has been pre-determined. It does not have a happy ending, either. I have slated a couple NPCs to die before the end and for the fabric of the Dragon-Bound world to be changed for the worse. Interupting this flow of events and forcing me to change the plotline is the best thing you can do - in fact - I'm counting on it. Have fun!

Recommendations

I suggest that your dragon be at least a youngling, if not older. Younglings have a degree of independence and will be able to act on the events unfolding. Hatchlings will still be able to participate, but it will be more difficult for them to influence things.

Be a leader, not a follower. If dragons do not act to change the course of Heritage, the events that unfold will be terrible for both human and dragons alike. Do something to counteract that.

Decide if you want to try to Ascend or Fall and then act towards that goal. This doesn’t mean you should go around arbitrarily doing actions that are good or evil. It means you need to start changing your dragon’s personality towards one that will suit with the Ascended or Fallen descriptions. Also, good role playing isn't an option here - it's a requirement if you are looking to take the path of Ascending or Falling.

Dangers

Your dragon CAN die in this event. However, your dragon will not die by whim, accident, or sheer bad luck. If your dragon is entering into a dangerous situation you will be given in-roleplay chances to escape as well as a warning that your dragon is in danger. If you choose to remain in danger and your dragon dies as a result, you will be given shop credit equal to what you paid for the dragon and allowed to get a new egg.

Bad things not related to death can also happen to your dragon. I will not go into specifics (that would ruin the surprise), but I will promise that anything that happens will not be permanent damage to your pet.

In short, take this as a disclaimer that things may not all go your way. I will be running all the NPC’s and the events of the game on either my Dragon-Bound or Kiddo the fox-phoenix account. (I will not play anything but NPCs.) I won’t be forcing things down one path or the other, but I will be taking an active role in what happens.

Who can Join

Anyone with a dragon. You don't have to be trying to Ascend or Fall to join - you can play for fun.

In addition, your Dragon-Bound can also be involved. Just remember that dragons and humans age at the same rate until adulthood, so you will want to do some thinking about how old your Dragon-Bound will be during the time of Heritage. If it works out, I strongly urge you to get them involved as I hope to have a human side of this roleplay.

How to Join

Just jump in. You don’t have to post a form or anything – just find a good spot and hop in the action with your dragon.

Misc

If you need your dragon aged specifically for this event let me know and I’ll get you a cert. We can overlook timeline for the sake of allowing people to participate. However, jumping over a stage entirely (ie, youngling to adult) is discouraged. Try aging your dragon in mid-event as part of the roleplay if you want to do that.

If your dragon Ascends or Falls you will not have to accept this. You will be given a choice and if you'd prefer for your dragon to remain as is nothing will stop you. Ascending or Falling will not cost anything for this event, but it will still need to be earned through good role playing. ^.~

I tend to forget information so if you have any questions please PM me and I’ll see that they’re answered.

Details on Becoming an Ascended or Fallen

There is no one template on how an Ascended or Fallen dragon should behave. We all perceive things differently and so everyone’s take on what it means to be good or evil will differ. Furthermore, Ascended or Fallen dragons may believe their cause to be right or wrong but their actions counteract this.

Ascended dragons are dragons that act in a way that benefits individuals, society, or the world as a whole. They may not necessarily believe that it is their calling to be ‘good’ or ‘righteous’ but their actions have brought about so much benefit that the powers that grant the Ascended wings have noticed. These dragons may be spiteful, arrogant, or even rude but ultimately, their actions prove their heart to be a good one. There are also dragons that Ascend simply because they are good to the core of their being. They are kind to others, value life, and will act for the sake of others to the extent of sacrificing themselves.

Fallen dragons act in ways that damage individuals, society, or the world. It doesn’t matter what motivation is behind this. Some Fallen may believe that they are doing a good thing for dragonkind (such as hunting and brutally slaughtering villages that harbor dragon-hunters) but because of the manner in which these actions are carried out they ultimately cause too much damage for them to be considered good. “The end justify the means” is not an excuse. Other Fallen know that their actions are wrong and either don’t care or revel in what they do. A Fallen doesn’t have to be overtly evil, in fact, they may have started out in seemingly benign ways, but the consequences of their actions are too great to be ignored and they are cursed with wings that mark them as the creatures they are. Some dragons do not view these wings as a curse, however, but as an example as to how dragons are to regain the skies and may even strive to achieve them by following in the example of existing Fallen.

The young woman received a handful of glances, mostly because she was new, and in this small town anything new was greeted with innocent curiosity. They left her alone though, as she sat huddled in a corner, her veil drawn about her face to hide it from prying glances, and her arms were wrapped about her middle – an unconscious, protective, gesture. They wondered what she was so afraid of.

Avalene Mierdeth was afraid of a lot of things. Most of all, she was afraid of the wind, for it carried voices in it and she was afraid these voices would come and wrap their words around her. They carried events that were unfolding that very night and she hoped that here, in the glow of a quiet tavern in a small town in the borderlands, that the walls would lock out the voices, outside in the wind where they belonged.

But this was an event that would shatter lives, rebuild them, and bring both hope and despair to her world. She would probably not know everyone who was affected by this but she would know their troubles. This was the way of things. She was born to be a voice for these events.

“Miss?”

It was a round-faced man who approached her, cautiously gazing down into her face. She started and stared at him like the deer confronts the hunter.

“Are you alright miss?”

She shivered. She had told the tavern owner, when she got a room for the night, that her name was Lene. Too many people in this area had heard of the young prophetess Avalene. She hoped he hadn’t seen her face elsewhere.

“I’m fine,” she said softly. Her eyes trailed to a figure near the back of the room. He was a small man and had an air of supreme smugness about him. The wind pounded at the windows and the round-faced man looked up from checking on Avalene and frowned. It usually wasn’t this windy.

Again, the wind beat against the windows and the tavern grew silent in surprise. Was a storm hitting hard? They had not seen any clouds rolling in. But the silence was disturbed by a thin cry from the girl in a blue veil. She convulsed, violently, and jerked inward on herself, her head snapping down and her spine bringing her entire body together. She fell from the chair and seized a few more times before lying still. No one moved and the round-faced man carefully knelt by her side, hesitating to touch her. The smug man in the corner had gone still and focused on the scene unfolding.

The voices in the wind were about him, what he had done, and what his actions were about to cause in the world.

She rose. Stood very slowly and raised her face to the ceiling and the sky beyond, her eyes rolled back in her head.

“The sins of the generation before have been given to the children,” she said and everyone felt a chill wash over them. The wind hummed at the window.

“Her name isn’t Lene,” the tavern owner said, “It’s Avalene...” And those gathered there that evening knew who this was now and drew back in fear as the girl continued her prophecy.

“The righteousness of the generation before has been given to the children. Their inheritance is the sky and the blessing and curse that their blood carries. We have torn them apart once and now they have been torn apart again – by one of our own once more. It shall be times of blood and fire again and deeds most terrible if this remains unaltered.”

The fire spluttered and the wind shrieked in triumph.

“The cunning fool has brought this upon us. Cursed be his fate, cursed be his kin, and cursed shall be those that allow this future to continue. The time of Heritage has begun.”

She collapsed. When she rose this time, it was only to her hands and her knees, and she was coughing. It was a wet sound and the people gathered about her, in some fear, and in concern for they saw the small droplets of blood that she brought up with her breath. In the commotion surrounding Avalene no one noticed the man at the back of the room slip unnoticed up the stairs and to his room where his things were safely stored. For he knew, without a doubt, that he was meant to hear this prophecy, and that he would see firsthand this Heritage she spoke of. The wind howled at the window and he was afraid.

Roleplay will be opened on the 5th.

The heavy thump of a dragon’s footfalls echoed down the narrow corridor. The tunnels that riddled the mountain were part natural and part magic, hewn out of the rock by dragon-magic a long time ago to make space for this most important and sacred of places. The path seemed far too long a distance now for someone who was urgently needed somewhere about ten minutes ago.

“Eastern forest!” Fam cried despairingly, “Who knew it could hold so many dragons?”

She had been in a mess all week as more and more dragons arrived at Genyiel Circle for this grand meeting that had been called. No one really knew what it was over – just that something had happened and that it was bad. That the Fallen were getting involved. That Master Lierce had called it personally. That even Shadine had traveled all the way from the southern desert to be present. And that any dragon was allowed to attend and voice their say. Not even Fam, the caretaker of this place, knew what was going on. The matter was kept under strict guard by the Dragon-Bound Knights and they would die sooner than compromise their honor.

And she sensed deep in her heart, in that portion where the dragon-magic dwelled, that this was far more than what would be unveiled tomorrow, when the first meeting of the dragon race occurred. She’d been around Genyiel long enough to know that these things were merely masks for something more, tools to be used like the humans used chess pieces, feinting here and there to achieve their final goal.

“Where am I going to put them?” she moaned, slowing to a steady walk and then forcing herself to appear bright and cheerful. There were too many dragons here already and if she didn’t keep calm the dragon’s independent nature would start asserting itself and fights would break out. She stepped out of the tunnels and onto the cliff edge that was the main entrance to the mountain. It broke off in a sheer cliff and plummeted for quite a way before leveling into a more even slope down to the treeline.

Adolescents, younglings, and even hatchlings were coming – carried on the backs of the adult dragons. There were few meetings in Genyiel Circle and when one was called older dragons would always bring the younger ones simply so they could see the seat of dragon power and learn that even the small voices had a say in determining the future.

Fam just wished there weren’t so many of them. She stepped out to meet the new group.

“I am Fam,” she said, ducking her head in a greeting of respect, “Caretaker of Genyiel Circle. We are honored to have your presence here. May I know who you are, distant kin of the forest?”

At least learning who they all were would forestall having to decide where to put them for another few precious moments.

And the roleplay is now open. Be nice and introduce yourself to Fam. Or already be wandering the halls of Genyiel. Have fun!

Viscal lurked around the edge of the Genyiel Circle. Gatherings of many dragons weren't his type of thing. He had slipped out of the hatchery just to get away from this sort of thing, but it seemed as if the race of dragons had followed him here. He frowned at that. He wanted to be alone. Then again, he was hungry, and this...gathering of sorts might have food for him. A little ways away, he saw the entrance to the gathering. Truethfully, he'd rather just slip in unoticed, but if he was discovered he might be removed. He carefully made his way over to the entrance were a blue dragon was intrudcing herself. She introduced herself as Fam, and he quietly replied just saying his name, Viscal. Then, the youngling darted into the halls of the Genyiel, before Fam could ask him any other questions, such as what was a youngling doing here by himself. He glanced back to make sure she didn't follow before darting off into the crowds of dragons.

Ithiel clattered his claws against a wall inside the halls, bored and pretty much alone. He'd come with the first wave of his clan and was settled in; now there was nothing for a bored youngling to do, except see if he could make the funny symbols the elders did with his claws on the wall.

Well, there wasn't all that much dirt here, what else was he supposed to use?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 07, 2007 12:31 pm

Fam barely had time to register the youngling’s name before he darted off. She made a mental note to keep an eye out for him later in case he couldn’t find a spot to sleep for the night or lost track of where his clan was. It was easy to get lost in Genyiel Circle. She then turned her attention to the rest of the clan and received their names. Some she recognized. Others were new. After that was done she turned and led them into the interior of the caves. They could use one of the remaining bowl cave. They were called that for the bowl-shape they formed as the floor and they were scattered about the mountain in various sizes. She’d already put several clans in these and so far things had gone smoothly. She just hoped it would remain that way.

-----------------------------------

(anyone can overhear this)

“Meeting starts tomorrow at dawn?”

The voice belonged to a female dragon, still fairly young. Most likely an adolescent still. The other voice was male and older, probably another dragon from the same clan as the speaker.

“Yes. Master Lierce insisted as Genyiel is crowded enough already and this matter needs to be addressed quickly.”

“Hrm.”

There was quiet for the moment. The two had settled in along the wall of one of the wider passages for some quiet talk.

“Any idea what is going on yet?”

“Well….”

The male dragon dropped his voice a little.

“My Bound – he’s rather clever – was exploring some of the smaller tunnels of Genyiel that we can’t fit through. Managed to overhear something I don’t think is supposed to be common knowledge. He couldn’t see the speaker but they were talking about one last dragon that hasn’t shown up yet and is supposed to be here by now. They did not sound pleased.”

“So who is this?”

The older dragon chuckled.

“Tarketh. You have heard of him, correct?”

He’s going to be here…? oh… by the skies…”

And her voice trailed off in dismay.

Viscal was streched out in a shadey patch, where not to many dragons were gathered. Not to far away, he could hear two speaking to eachother. He was tired, and didn't feel like looking up to see whom was speaking...plus, then they might notice him. He'd found this spot very good for evesdropping, no one noticed him, hidden away, listening, watching. So far he had learned all sorts of things about how certain clans were doing, but this by far seemed the most important. The two were talking about this gathering, or in other words, this gathering. Then came the mention of Tarketh. That sounded important. He had no clue who or what Tarketh was, but he sounded bad. He wondered what to do with this information. He lept up, not carring if they saw him. Maybe that dragon at the entance would have an explaination.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 07, 2007 1:21 pm

Fam paused as she saw a youngling come trotting out of one of the tunnels. She’d been wandering through this area, hoping to come across him again while she still had some down-time. He was fairly easy to recognize on account of his bright colors.

“Youngling,” she called out, stopping and looking down at him, “Viscal, correct? You need to find your clan?”

Viscal looked up in surprise. He'd found the dragon quicker than he thought he would of. He'd already lost his sense of direction, and had been having trouble finding the entrance. Yet here she was. He wondered momentarly how she rembered his name and voice his opion aloud.

"How do you remeber my name?"

Quickly he realised he'd forgotten his point to find her. Without waiting for an answer to the last question and not answering hers, he aksed.

"Who is Tarketh?"
PostPosted: Wed Feb 07, 2007 2:01 pm

“Tarketh?” Fam was momentarily startled out of her train of thought. “Well, he….”

She took a deep breath to compose herself. Why was the youngling asking her the uncomfortable questions? Wasn’t that something they were supposed to do to the older dragons? That was how things worked. The difficult questions were given to the adult dragons. Unless she was considered an adult now… of course… She fiddled with the stone hung around her neck for a moment while she composed a reply.

“Tarketh is one of the Fallen,” she said, “You know of those, right? He’s one of the most notorious as well. Most Fallen are quiet and rarely cause trouble on a wide scale – isolated murders, an occasional raid on a human town, and general cruelty to others. Tarketh has made being vile an art and is not adverse to flaunting it. The only reason dragonkind as a whole hasn’t done anything is because he lives in isolation.”

She huffed in irritation.

“Now, we need to get you to your clan. They’ll want to speak to you before the meeting tomorrow I’m sure – you have heard that it’s tomorrow? Master Lierce just sent out the word today. He’s rushing things.” Fam paused, a thought occurring to her. “Why you asking about Tarketh, anyway?”

Viscal was surprised by the older dragons...well surprise. He hadn't felt this happy in ages. Normally he sat around bored, but this dragon had things to tell. Viscal found them fasinating. Fallen were...diffrent. They didn't seem civil from Fams discription of them. Then she mentioned getting him back to his clan. He didn't know what a clan was, he didn't come with one either.

"Whats a clan?" He asked confused...Then quickly answered her next question, once again, not giving much time for a reply.

"Two older dragons were saying Tarketh was coming..." He said, proud of his evesdropping skills.
PostPosted: Wed Feb 07, 2007 2:34 pm

“Uhhhh… oh.”

This was suddenly out of Fam’s range of experience. Her job was quite simple. Relay news throughout Genyiel. Make sure food was in adequate supply. Relocate lost younglings and hatchlings back to where their clan was.

“Listen, those older were probably just speculating on what’s going to happen,” she said, “Since a couple Fallen have shown up they were probably just guessing that Tarketh would follow just to cause more trouble. I wouldn’t worry about it. Besides, even if he does show up – which I highly doubt will happen – we’ve got Master Lierce and the Dragon-Bound Knights here. They won’t let him do anything bad.”

They were already keeping a close eye on the Fallen already present. A very close eye.

“But no clan? That’s not good. All younglings need a clan… how did you get here then?”

She ran through her mind trying to find someone she could put the youngling with. There was always Eym. They were large enough to be able to shelter lost younglings and quite a few of them were already here in Genyiel. Assuming that Viscal would let her, that is.

"But-but-...the older dragons didn't say he was coming, they said he was late, and he would be here soon...with other fallens!"

Viscal knew he was bending the truth a bit, but it couldn't hurt...right? As long as his voice was heard.

"Can't you do something?"

He was starting to find out that this dragon was going to be no help. That is, if fallens were as bad as she said...

"You don't believe me!" He growled...

"And, I'm not being dragged into a clan. I'm quite fine on my own." With that Viscal turned around furoius. He would go and find a dragon who would listen to what he said.
