Dearest Muse and Mods,
It has come to my attention that the Writer's Corner is (finally) flourishing.
Now I hold concerns about being too specialized with our threads.
For instance, the new favorite authors/books threads. These might as well be included in the Suggested Reading Thread, where people share their favorite series/book/author anyway, in the course of suggesting something.
Instead of creating something new, we deflect attention for a thread that many--myself included--use often, and check up on periodically. These new threads take away from the Suggested Reading Thread because they are too specialized.
To spark conversation and debate requires at least two people, and I must say that Demon and I have lives outside of Gaia.
Instead of sectioning the group, we can leave it intact, and get much more interesting conversation from a group. And it would be two less threads that I'd have to check.
These threads should be considered no less than spam, because in almost all cases, one will suggest their favorites within a sticky thread. If we thin out the front page a bit, much more will get done.
So now I ask your permission, Muse, under your guidance, of course, to begin culling out redundant threads from the overpopulated main forum.
I expect Demon and Kiyo (if they are up to it) to lend me a hand. I can be far too click-happy without close watch. And if only one person does this, than the interests only of that person are served, rather than the guild itself, though I would do everything in my power not to let myself become tyrannical.
This offer, if Muse accepts, is not merely to those I am close to, but also to Saberfire, and of course, our Muse herself.
Action needs to be taken before this gets out of hand. I can already see the main forum looking increasingly similar to the Chatterbox with each day.
With Concern, and Solutions in the Blueprints, ~LD

Since its 230am I'm in no mood to root through old threads and delete them. IF you don't mind, make a list of the threads that you want moved to the recycle bin and I'll check back Sunday and add or disaprove my own.

I think some need to be cut back, but not all should have to be discussed in a single thread. Being a book guild I want members to be able to have their own thread about their favorite book. However, threads like "'blankity blank' book is so kewl, isn't it?", where there's no discussion at all need to go in the Suggested Reading thread.
New rule #1: All new threads about a certain book have to be titled: "The Book's Name" - "The Book's Author". Discussion about this book only in this thread, along with why you like it/don't like it. Any talk about why it's your favorite goes in the Suggested Reading thread.
New rule#2: Any threads about "'such and such' book is my favorite" will be summarily deleted and the creator can be PMed about where he/she can post and discuss their favorite book (in the Suggested Reading thread).
Thoughts?

I like that better than summarily executing mass amounts of threads. I deleted one earlier I think last night it said exactly what you said: Eragon is the best book I ever read! I didn't have any patience at the time so I hit the delete button and was done with it, I didn't think LV would want to pop another vein so I took care of it. If I was in the wrong, fine, but still, that doesn't belong here.
Are you going to readjusting the guild rules then so people know or are you just going to post an announcement about this?

I'll just add on to the rules and in the title of the thread rules put "Updated "today's date here"". I have the right to change the rules whenever I want. twisted

Yay! Dictatorship! twisted
But seriously, those amendments were seriously needed.
Umm.... How about we make a final sticky called Favorite Book/Series/Author, and deal with the others (random needless threads) in a...harsher manner? Deletion anyone?

I don't see the need to make a sticky when all the "favorite" threads are on the main page. This is a slow moving guild, so not only do we need members to come to the guild, we need them to stay. Having several (but not repeat) "favorite" threads, we make it seem as though this guild is busy, so they come and when members post in several different threads, they stay. Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea for a fast paced guild, but not for a slow paced one. Also, too many stickies are really ugly/tacky looking. I've already done away with the "Subforum Descriptions" thread and added it into the rules thread.
Again, I really do listen to all of your thoughts, opinions and ideas. So please keep 'em coming. biggrin

Hmm.... I suppose you're right. I didn't take into account the speed of the guild.
Oh, and that reminds me, are we going to clear out the member list any time soon?
