According to this nice fellow on ... some Who chat site, the Sonic Screwdriver: (in white)
'... gets destroyed by the Judoon according to 'Doctor Who - The Inside Story' (Xmas gift to me). Check it out- page 248.'
... What do you think? A lot of people are saying that it's being overused. Hehe, maybe, the two are kind of inseparable...
In white also: The Judoon, if you're wondering, are in the series 3 previews at the end of RB; the storm trooper guys with Rhino heads. I don't think they really look that great...

The sonic screwdriver IS overused, so I hope they write it out of the series. Though there's no reason the Doctor couldn't just build another. It's replaceable, like K-9.

Yeah, didn't he make K-9 Mark II or some such odd name for it? I really don't want that to happen though. That's not fair. It's too cool. ^^

I wouldn't destroy it. I would just make him use it less, or maybe stop it from working most of the time.

I thought it was definitely overused... but it's still an awesome invention, so I don't think they should destroy it. Now he has absolutely NO weapons at all. He's kinda become dependent on it... and it took him all this time since he broke his last one to make another, so I'm guessing he's not going to this time. But who knows really.
I wonder if he gets really pissed off at them for breaking it? It would be kinda amusing to see the Doctor completely lose his temper. Doesn't happen much...

Well it was destroyed in the earlier doctors then suddenly the 7/8th doctor suddenly had one so I assume that the doctor made a new one and if they really wanted to he could remake it.

Ceribri Stresshog I wouldn't destroy it. I would just make him use it less, or maybe stop it from working most of the time. Just use it less then... making it stop working wouldn't be nice. sad What I mean is, introduce some new rule that prevents him from using it. It would stop working briefly at first, the breakages getting longer and more frequent until the finale of the series, which would reveal the reason for the malfunctions, and the Doctor would have to beat the enemy without the screwdriver, thus undo-ing whatever is preventing its use(and of course defeating a great evil). Then, they could use it next series, and it would be a welcome break from the all-in-one miracle device the sonic screwdriver has become. He'd actually have to use his brain for once to defeat the enemy rather than just pointing the screwdriver and something and turning it on.

I rather like the screwdriver thank you very much! its useful! and they have been making him use it a little less....besides, I think the newer fans would rebel if the screwdriver broke. The ninth doctor had it from the start, so the kids would be very mad....large groups of small children all mad about one thing is VERY SCARY.

The amazing sonic screwdriver ... it slices, it dices, it probably even makes juilliene fries. In fact this handy dandy little tool did it all and batteries weren't included! The amazing sonic screwdriver... get yours today. Only $19.95. But wait! Order now and get a second sonic screwdriver. Yours, absolutely free! The sonic screwdriver don't live home without it! scream
Yes, this gizmo was getting very overused. Time for the warranty to expire already.

It is a bit of a deus ex machina device, but I'd hate to see it go entirely. I don't know about making it a whole plot arc, but they could definitely introduce a reason for it to stop working. We don't know when the Doctor blew up Villengard, so it could have been after the Doctor got the new one. They could have it go on the fritz because it isn't getting proper maintenance or something like that. Rather like the TARDIS, in fact.

Maliana oooo bit of a shame actually, how will he open doors? It might be a new concept to him but there are things as doorknobs and keys, not over complicated device that doesnt work half of the time becuase it is a piece of wothless crap that he stole along with the TARDIS. xd

He could just go to a fan shop and pick a new on up!
