Special Creatures: What are they and how do I get them?
As I have noticed people asking these two questions quite often I have decided to create this mini guide. I hope it proves useful.

Right, so, what are these special creatures I talk of?
Well, with each expansion pack, including the base game, there has been a "special" type of sim included which you cannot create in CAS. I shall now list which creature comes with which expansion pack.
Base Game: Aliens
University: Zombies
Nightlife: Vampires
Open for Business: Servo Robots
Pets: Werewolves
Seasons: PlantSim
Bon Voyage: Bigfoot
Free Time: NPC Genie
Apartment Life: Witches

The next thing now then is how to get them into your game. Besides having the correct expansion packs installed, the details for each creature are listed below.

Aliens
Available age: All
In order to get alien Sims in your game you will need to get a male Sim abducted by aliens. Female Sims can also get abducted by aliens but only male Sims can become pregnant. To get a Sim abducted simply get them to stargaze with a telescope late at night. It may take quite a few attempts but it will happen. (If you play the Curious brothers in Strangetown they seem to get abducted whenever they use a telescope. This seems specific to them.) Your Sim will be returned the following morning and will be dumped out of the ship next to the mail box. If it was a male you had abducted then they should have come back pregnant. The pregnancy will take place like a normal female pregnancy and your Sim will give birth to a little alien baby. Awww, cute.
Alien Sims act just like normal Sims and have no added features.

Zombies
Available age: Teen +
If you want a zombie then you are going to have to kill off a Sim first. So, choose a willing victim volunteer and kill them off any way you want. Don't delete their tombstone or urn! Now, to bring them back you will need to use the Resurrect-O-Nomitron career reward from the Paranormal career. (To get the Paranormal job a Sim must graduate from University. Alternatively you could use a cheat to make the Resurrect-O-Nomitron available.) Once you have got hold of the Resurrect-O-Nomitron use it to call the Grim Reaper. You will then be presented with a window asking which Sim you would like to bring back from the dead. Choose your recently dead Sim and you will be asked how much you are willing to pay to get them back. Depending on how much you pay, there are varying results. To get a zombie you must pay LESS than 1022 simoleans. If you pay extra then your Sim will be returned to you as a normal looking Sim but with slightly altered personality.
The features of a zombie are that they have greenish bluish skin, do not age, cannot have children, limp when they walk and think about brains, a lot!

Vampires
Available age: Teen +
So you want your Sim to become a child of the night. To become a vampire your Sim will have to get bitten by a Sim who is already a vampire and to do that they will need to visit a Downtown lot during the night. I find the best lot to visit is the Crypto Nightclub (the one with the dead tree inside) Eventually a NPC vampire will show up. You can recognise them by their blue tinted skin, red eyes, fangs and the clothes they are wearing. The males wear a cloak and the females wear a gothic style dress. To get a vampire to bite your Sim they must first get to know each other. Once the relation score gets high enough the NPC vampire will hypnotise your Sim and then bite their neck. Congratulations, your Sim is now a vampire. An alternative way to get a vampire is to get another Sim to influence a vampire to bite your chosen target.
Features of a vampire are that, as mentioned above, they have blue tinted skin, red eyes and fangs. They also have two new methods of getting about; stalk and fly (by turning into a bat), they have no reflections in mirrors, they do not age, they can bite other Sims if they get along well enough, they can use the social "Bleh!" and their motives don't decay during the night. The downside to this is that they will die if they stay out too long during the day. The only way to prevent vampires from dying during the day is to buy them a coffin and make sure they sleep in it while the sun is up as even if they are indoors they can still burn up.
Unlike the previous two creatures though, a Sim can be cured of being a vampire. Simply contact the Matchmaker and purchase a Vamprocillin-D potion from her and get your vampire Sim to drink it.

Servo Robots
Available age: Adult
That's right, our old friend from the original Sims is back, as a playable Sim! As Servo is a robot, he needs to be built if you want him in your game. To do this buy an existing Sim a robot workbench from the Hobbies section of the Buy catalogue. To begin with, your Sim will only be able to build Toy Robots so you best get them to work! After they have built a certain number, your Sim will gain a bronze talent badge and more robot options will be available to them. Keep building the available robots until your Sim earns a gold talent badge. Once they have a gold talent badge they will have to option to build a Servo. Once your Sim has built a Servo it must then be activated and it becomes a playable Sim.
Features of a Servo are that their needs are different (they don't need to eat, pee, wash or sleep), they have a unique flirt interaction of "Tune Up", they do not age, they autonomously cook, clean and do the gardening (shows as "Do Chores" in the command list), they can break if their motives get too low and "Run Amok" (any nearby Sims that are awake may suffer an electric shock), they have their own special formal wear, using a bath, shower or swimming pool causes their needs to drop quickly, they need to recharge power by standing and channelling sunlight and male Servos can get female Sims pregnant. (I don't even want to think about it) Female Servos, however, cannot get pregnant. So there will be no baby servos running around.

Werewolves
Available age: Teen +
To become a werewolf your Sim must befriend the leader of the pack, the head wolf. You can identify this special wolf as it's eyes glow yellow. Once you obtain at least a 60 daily relationship with the pack leader it will autonomously "Nibble" your Sim and they will become a werewolf. In order to increase the chance of the pack leader appearing on your lot you should place more trees around the house. The more trees you have, the greater the chance of the pack leader showing up as, like the game will tell you, wolves like wooded areas. The pack leader will also be drawn to your lot if you have a baby or toddler living in the house.
Features of a werewolf are that when it turns to night your Sim will glow briefly and become covered in fur all over (they turn back when the sun rises), they can summon wolves, they hunch and lope when they walk, they have a "Howl" self interaction which causes surrounding Sims' bladder need to drop and wake up any sleeping Sims, they can train pets faster, while in wolf form their energy need fills to the max and their hunger need drops and they can "Savage" other Sims to turn them into werewolves. By default teens can only "savage" teens and adult and elders can "savage" no Sim lower than adult age.
Like vampires, werewolves can also be cured. To do this contact either the Matchmaker or the Obedience Trainer and purchase a Lycanthropic-B potion and get your Sim to drink it.

PlantSim
Available age: Toddler,Adult, Elder
In order to get a PlantSim you have to make your normal Sim use a lot of chemical spray on garden plants when they get a bug infestation. They will turn into a PlantSim after using the spray a lot in one go. Using the spray lots of times but with a long time inbetween shouldn't cause the change.
Features of a PlantSim are that they look all green and leafy, their needs are different to a normal Sim (they only require Sun, Water and Love), they can garden at gold talent badge level whether they have the needed skills or not, they can "grow a plantbaby" whenever they want and they have extra social interactions; "Spores of Happiness" which raises the mood of surrounding Sims and a new prank "Spore Cloud". PlantSim babies grow instantly from a toddler to an adult skipping out the child and teenager stages inbetween.
This state can be cured in the same way that you would cure a vampire or a werewolf; by buying the Plantrophic-C potion from the Nightlife matchmaker or from the gardening club representative.

Bigfoot
Available age: Adult, Elder
Bigfoot is a secret character that can only be found once a Sim digs up the map for The Hidden Burrow in Three Lakes. Once your Sim digs up the map, get them to visit The Burrow by either walking to the lot or by calling a taxi from any lot in Three Lakes. You must be on vacation in Three Lakes and have the map in the Sim's inventory for this option to be available. Once your Sim arrives you will find them on a small lot with a lake and small hut. Bigfoot will be wandering around somewhere. He will be instantly recognisable as he will be covered in brown hair and be wearing no clothes. Greet him and socialise with him. If you enter his hut you will see a radio. Turn it on and get Bigfoot to come inside and he should attempt to perform the slap dance. Get your Sim to join him and afterwards you should be able to invite Bigfoot to come home with your Sim and become a playable character. At the end of the vacation, Bigfoot will return home with your Sim.
Bigfoot CANNOT have children or interact in any romantic way with other Sims. He is apparently very good at looking after children though. He can also autonomously decide to "Scare" any Sim on the lot including family members. Other Sims don't tend to like this. Bigfoot also has a unique hug option and a unique walk, its more "animalistic". Bigfoot's hunger and hygene needs drop faster than that of a normal Sim but he doesn't care as much about how clean he is. He has a golden talent badge in each catagory. This includes the Open for Business talents such as hair care and robotics. Finally, he has his own special formal-type clothing for going to work in, which consists of a bowler hat and wastecoat.

NPC Genie
Available age: Adult
The Genie's is a non playable character (NPC) and is brought to a Sims house by the Gypsy Matchmaker. Your Sim is allowed to make 3 wishes before the Genie vanishes.
The things a Sim can wish for are; wealth, piece of mind, cheat death, long life, beauty and ressurect.
After the Genie vanishes a Sim must wait 14 days before they have the opportunity to be awarded another Genie lamp.

The following info provided by Fear Loops taken from a game guide:
"Each day, there's a two percent chance the Gypsy Matchmaker will wander by and drop off a lamp. The more Sims in the household that have high Lifetime Aspiration score (+2% chance for each Sim with line 7 or higher Lifetime Aspiration score) and hobby enthusiasm (+1% chance for each hobby for which each Sim is at or above level 8 ), the more likely a lamp will arrive.
Thus, let's imagine a household with four Sims, two of whom have Lifetime Aspiration score above line 7. Two of these Sims each have one hobby at level 10 enthusiasm, one has two hobbies maximized, and the third has none above level 7. Thus, the lots chance of getting a lamp each day would be 10 percent"

Witches
Available age: teen +
In order to become a witch (or warlock) your Sim must befriend an existing witch. They can usually be found on community lots. If a good witch arrives then golden light will shine from the sky. If an evil witch arrives then it will begin to rain.
In Apartment Life witches can be both female and male. Male witches are referred to as warlocks. There are also three kinds; good, neutral and evil. Each of these have their own outfit. The good witches wear white, the neutral witches wear grey/brown and the evil ones wear black. If your Sim becomes evil enough their skin will become a dark green. If they become good enough then their skin will gain a golden glittery coating.
Witches can be cured with a potion like all other special creatures which can be purchased from either an existing witch or from the Matchmaker if you have Nightlife installed. You can also brew one in a cauldron.
Once your Sim becomes a witch they gain a cauldron and spell book in their inventory. The cauldron is used to create reagents needed to cast spells, potions to cure Sims if they are a 'special creature' and certain objects which differ depending on your Witch's alignment. The spell book tells you which spells a Sim knows, what reagents each spell needs to be cast, your Sim's magical skill level and their alignment.

The information on how Plant Sims are created has been out for a while, but a lot of people seem to have missed it. I had to dig around to find a source for you to see:

The over-use of pesticides while gardening can have a side effect which will result in your Sims being more than just green fingered! Plant People are unlike other occult characters in that they can actually pass this deficiency down to their offspring, as you can see in the screen on the left.

Also, way back when diesims.de put out their info on this release, they talked about the Plant Sims "spawning" children and some of the screenshots let us know that they have different motives than other sims - it seems that they only need sunlight, water, and love.

Thanks for the info. When I said fertilise I meant use the spray. I didn't know what the correct term was as I didn't have the game when I first wrote this. It's been corrected now.

Questions about Plant Sim

okay, so I'm a bit confused...I can only spray pesticide on the plants when they need it...so wouldn't every good gardner, then, turn into the plant sim? and does it just skip the teen age or what?

There is a way around having to spray for pests. From my own experiences if you keep your plants inside a greenhouse then they cannot become infested with bugs. If you do want to have your plants outside or for use with trees, you can use the ladybug house which helps reduce the number of bugs. It should be safe for your Sims to spray an odd plant now and again anyway since the change to PlantSim only seems to happen after spraying a lot of infested plants all in one go.

The babies that they spawn start as toddlers (no baby stage) and then skip the child and teen years transitioning straight into adults. So you can't have a PlantSim at university unless they change while they are there. (I think)
