I started talking to this guy in a fishing chat room. He eventually had to go, but I pm'd him the next day to keep the conversation going. We exchanged messages and after a few days he gave me his number. I called him, and we talked about what we had been discussing in our messages, religion and philosophy. Now, after about a week, he's convinced that he loves me. WTF?

Mixed signals. Set the record straight, and be sure to let him down gently.

I don't not like him, but he lives 7 hours away (I checked on Google maps).

I know it's my fault for leading him on, but he was so excited to find someone he could connect with, even if merely electronically. But he's coming on way too strong and setting off all my warning bells. I know my withdrawl signals well enough from my last relationship.

I think you're right. I'm just going to talk to him about it.

Seconded.

Even if he you two have great conversations, he seems to be kinda trying to step over friendship.

Not that I don't understand where he's coming from. There's a certain 'high', so to speak, that one can get from talking to someone that you really associate with in terms of personal views. While in hindsight I have a problem classifying this as 'love', at the time, it can seem like it, and thereby cause a person to act illogically.

Chances are, it'll probably fade and, if you help to set things straight, you can probably have a very fulfilling friendship.

Agreed, and chikushou made a valid point about it being a certain high that would almost drive a person to act illogicially. I would be honest but firm and let him know you want to tone everything down a bit. I'm sure he'll wind down a bit with some time and things will return to normal. If he doesn't, run! sweatdrop
