What do you think the effect of the death of Saddam will be?

My mom's getting bad vibes, quite honestly. neutral

I rushed out to the television to turn on the notice that they think he's dead and that they were waiting on final confirmation for that. Personally, I think it was a momentus event. I think the world changed a little, and that his death will cause something to happen.

What, exactly? A change of times, perhaps. Perhaps those who were loyal to him will become violent, perhaps they will not. Perhaps he will be made out to be a martyr by some and then those will rise up against those who put him to death, and to America. Perhaps they will not. Only time can tell.

All I know is that today, a historical figure who seemed to be often at the center of controversy in recent times, was put to death and that this day will probably go down in the history books.

Eh. A lot of people died today. Most probably worse than he did.

The sun will rise and fall again, New days will come and go. Eventually, his passing will be as that of the falling leaves. However, I'm sure the short term eventualities will prove interesting, if only for the speculation they garner.

The death of Saddam is irrelevant. The death of this man does not solve s**t. Iraq is still a nation shattered whose pieces will take at least a generation to restore. Nothing has been solved by this death. Unless of course they're eating him after they're killing him, but somehow I doubt they're doing that. At least if they ate him someone's hunger would be solved. But this? Meaningless.

Killing him doesn't legitimise the American invasion, nor does it bring back the people he killed, or even give them peace. I think it's a waste of ******** time.

Oh of course it doesnt. It has i think a great deal of symbolism to these people that the horrible tyrant is dead.

It is seen as a waste to most Western eyes.

I think it may have been a poor choice, but a choice none the less. It was a trial for "the new government" in Iraq. We handed Saddam over, as he was their criminal, and told them to deal with him as they saw fit. They chose death. I have high hopes for Iraq, but not because of this, not directly. They faced a large choice, and made a decision. It was one of the first decisions, and their will be countless more. I await their response to the consequences of their actions.

(Also, I support the death penalty. ^_^)

Saddam is currently making Satan his b***h, a la South Park.

Seriously though, I don't think it'll change anything. The Middle East will continue to be one big ********, just as it's been for millenia.

Off topic, but good to have you back ^.^.

I would like to say (on-topic) that keeping him alive does nothing more than either let a guilty man free or make him rot in a prison taking up space. I say we should have made him die a painful death then let him rot in a shallow grave somewhere.

Honestly, my real gut reaction?

"Oh for crying out loud... he's just a guy." Really, he's just a person. I don't think a whole lot will come of it. Maybe a little political posturing, but really. Especially metaphysically? Nah, he's just another human.
