Rules

Si te rog, iubirea mea, primeste fericirea

1. Generally-speaking, this Journal is reserved for posting-in by Apathetic, Valentine, and other TANT-related people-types. Please keep all posts IC, and OOC-posts (comments, critiques, OOC RP, ect) can be made in the main thread or PM'ed to Apathetic.

2. Please keep all posts made here PG-13 and below-- That means language, imagery, blood, and so on. (This won't be all THAT enforced, but c'mon... Common sense tells you where to draw the line.)

3. All art and creative ideas are c to their creators, so no stealing ( or 'borrowing'). That would make me angry, and believe me, you wouldn't... Aw, never mind. You get the idea.

I ask you, my love, to accept happiness

Name: Valentine, a.k.a. 'Valen'
Dealer: Apathetic Nonchalance, a.k.a. 'Ap,' 'Apa,' 'AN'
Suit: Hearts
Number: Seven
Emergence-Day: Monday, December 04, 2006 ("Monday's child is fair of face...")

Card-Associations: The Seven of Hearts is traditionally a 'good' card; associated with positive events, such as the fulfillment of a small wish, a small-but-positive thing-- Getting that special person's attention, or finding twenty bucks on the street. However, the Seven of Hearts is also a card of jealousy, in themselves or (more likely) inspired in others; those represented by this card are rarely known for their fidelity, and tend to take matters of the heart far less seriously than others might like. They're great talkers with ample charm and endearing personalities, but they're almost child-like in their apparent disregard for other peoples' feelings; when they do find someone they can be truly loyal to, whether friend, family-member, or beloved, they'll go to the ends of the earth for him or her-- Romantics at heart, they'll promise you the moon, but if they truly care, they'll do everything in their power to make the objects of their affection happy. As a whole, the Heart suit is known for being sensitive, caring, and open; then again, as they represent youth in all its forms, those of the Hearts suit can also be lazy and self-indulgent as well as creative and romantic, and since they're often ruled by their emotions, they can hold grudges for a surprisingly long time.

Astrological Associations: Since he emerged on the fourth of December, it could be said that Valentine is a Sagittarius, the sign of The Archer. Those born under this sign are known for their optimistic, open natures, friendly personalities, and eternal curiosity; they need a certain amount of travel and adventure in their lives, and enjoy meeting new people and trying new things whenever possible. They're also excellent conversationalists, both intellectual and philosophical despite their 'layman's-style' attitude, but they can also be tactless or inconsiderate of others' feelings, careless with themselves and their possessions, and a restlessness, both physical and mental, that keeps them from taking the time to really know other people. They're happiest when working toward a goal that keeps them out and about, or at least talking to others, rather than being cooped up indoors doing boring or 'busy' work. Notably, the color of Sagittarius is a deep, rich purple, which happens to be the shade of Valentine's eyes.

Personality:

Huh.
Theoretically, since he's no longer a kid, things should be easier from here out.
...
Oh, who'm I kidding?
This is probably just the start of his... "wonder years."

But you should know I'm not asking for anything

Name: Apathetic Nonchalance (no, really.)
Age: Late teens, early twenties, somewhere around there.
Gender: Male

Appearance: Of average weight and slightly-taller-than-average height, his slightly-lanky build makes appear vaguely youthful, something like a teenager getting used to his new height, though his movements are usually confident and always decisive. He tends towards the darker colors, less because of personal tastes and more because it's easier to match them, and clothes that can stand up to some wear-and-tear.

Personality: Essentially easy-going, Apathetic has a surprisingly quick temper that flashes to the surface every now and then; although it rarely, if ever, makes him violent, he's prone to rash decisions and jumping to conclusions during his moments of irritation. At most times, though, he prefers to take things easy, living life one day at a time and not giving too much thought to either the future or the past; he enjoys the company of others at times, but may very well lock himself alone in his apartment for days on end if the incessant "company" gets to be too much of a hassle.

Background: He always says that there's not much to tell, and more-or-less that seems to be true. He had a typical up-scale life in Durem, with parents that - while dutiful to their son - were busy with their own, admittedly-successful, lives. It's not known if he has any siblings, but apparently Apathetic left home early, well out of reach of his parents' personal ambitions; apparently disappointed when their son left all of his training behind, they've made few appeals to re-establish contact. Apathetic doesn't seem much interested either, drifting around Gaia before finally settling on the Isle de Gambino, where he works the night-shift at Gold Mountain, patrolling the slots. He's also trying to quit smoking, which he has thus far been successful at for a little under two months.

Stigma, a.k.a. 'Physostigmine,' has a bit of an interesting origin--
She started out as a triplet of strange hallucinations,
and even now can only be seen by a select few.
Bubbly and cheerful, she's somewhat childish in that
she rarely considers the consequences of...
well, anything, and she enjoys watching TV
and going to the aquarium.

User Image

Telos, the most recent arrival, is a TANT as well... But that's where similarities to Valentine cease.
Apparently a very serious individual, Telos seems to act slightly aloof,
particularly where Valentine's concerned;
Apathetic is hoping this is just some form of sibling rivalry, and is grateful that Telos is
more reflective and less tiring overall than Valentine. For his part,
Valentine seems to like his reticient "brother" just fine, and seems to take
a fraternal joy in irritating said Telos whenever possible.

Living-Space

Nu ma, nu ma iei, nu ma, nu ma, nu ma iei

Apathetic currently inhabits a smallish apartment on the Isle de Gambino, where he happens to work, so it's pretty much a matter of convenience. The rent's kind of pricey, but that's to be expected considering he's living on the island; at least it's within walking distance of the Casino, and it's definitely not the worst place he's ever lived.

Though it started out its life as a studio, the apartment has been modified by the previous tenant; from what Apathetic knows, that tenant moved out suddenly, but hey-- At least he left the modifications. It now has a bathroom and a tiny kitchen-area, which is just big enough to hold a sink, a stovetop, a small refrigerator, and a few cabinets, which themselves hold cookingware and so on. Whether or not there's actually any food in the place depends on whether or not Apathetic's gotten around to buying any, and on how many people have come over to leech off his supplies.

The rest of the apartment is pretty small, but given some semblance of space by a plaster wall that cuts the room in two, leaving the first half as a livingroom-type area and the second as a bedroom. A sliding paper-screen door closes off the bedroom, but the walls are pretty thin; at least Apathetic doesn't have any roommates.

The place is furnished in what's essentially bachelor-on-a-budget decor; he sleeps on a futon and eats standing up, unless he manages to clear some of his newspapers, magazines, and ecetera. He does have a few nice prints and some collector's-edition books, as well as assorted items that, on a closer look, are either rare, expensive, or high-quality, if not more than one. They're hidden in plain sight, though, and its assumed that they came from his life before the arrival on the island.

VellaRosa is a... Well, a something. The closest analogy is probably a flying snake, but despite that she's very
well-mannered, generally coiled quietly around Valentine's neck while the TANT goes about his day.

The first time I saw Valentine, he wasn't actually a person yet... At least, that I knew.
He was a playing-card, a totally normal-looking playing card-- The Seven of Hearts.
And for a long time, I didn't know that he was anything more...

As soon as he arrived, though... Well, I was expected to be some kind of responsible guardian-figure.
It was a first, in regards to him being an actual kid and all, but I'd like to think he turned out okay.
Maybe a little spoiled, but... Hey, he didn't turn out bad, y'know?

Lucky Day?

(A Card in the Hand...)

It was a typical day for Apathy, all things considered-- Actually, with things being as hectic as they'd recently been, it was even a particularly quiet day, which was something of a relief. After all, assuming that things kept up their prior breakneck pace, well... Let's just say that he was on sufficient medication to control it, and leave it at that.

Not to mention that he was still in recovery from that forced increase in dosage...

But anyway. The casino was bustling, as usual; it rarely seemed to slow, which Apathetic attributed to people and their need to believe in 'luck.' In his opinion, if they were really lucky, they wouldn't need to try and make their fortunes in the casinos; they would just be walking down the street and a Jester's Wand, or whatever it was they wanted, would fall into their open hand. That it hadn't happened like that bespoke either the general lack of 'luck' in the world or Apathetic's misinterpretation of the same.

Granted, he got to wear the default uniform that so many people seemed to shoot for, but it was still the property of Gold Mountain-- He didn't get to keep it. Ah, well.

And so it was that he was on-duty, serving drinks to the various patrons, when the scuffle started at the Blackjack table. Normally, it being one of the face-to-face aspects of the casino, it was more likely to start something there, but things had been quiet for a while-- After all, the dealer at that table was a half-orc, and few people are gutsy enough to get into a half-orc's face. On this occasion, however, a short girl with dark hair seemed to be yelling at the dealer, who was nonplused by her fierceness and looked rather helpless at the moment; even from a bank of slot-machines away, Apathetic could hear the shouting take a slide into accusations of cheating. The argument got heated as the dealer, integrity stung, threw his own words into the fray, but things really went downhill when the girl pulled a 50s-era sci-fi raygun from thin air and started waving it in emphasis.

Later, no-one could really be sure what had happened, exactly; all they could agree on was that somehow the raygun went off, shooting a perfectly-round hole through the Wheel O' Fate game, which was unfortunately surrounded by members from one of the local Mercenaries' Guild. Reflexively drawing their weapons, shots were fired, and the casino soon degenerated into an all-out brawl.

Dodging through the fray, Apathy decided that this was a good time to clock out early. Although he was fairly certain of his ability to hold his own, he also knew that any employees remaining after the dust-up would be conscripted into janatorial duty, and he wouldn't be getting overtime for that kind of thing. Deflecting a series of shuriken with the platter in his hand, he blinded a nearby dog-demon, who was coming at him with a katana, using the vodka from the glasses, then sent the tray spinning into the youkai's midsection with sufficient force to knock the guy over the craps table. It was like that the entire way to the door, with poker-chips and cards flying everywhere, and it wasn't until hours later - after getting home, waiting for things to settle down, and calling in to see what happened - that he learned the cause for the disagreement. Apparently, the guest was accusing the dealer of using marked guards, which the dealer claimed wasn't true; the Seven of Hearts, he said, must have come from a different deck, slipped in by accident, because the colored backing made it not one of Gold Mountain's standard cards.

Eying the dark-orange/dark-blue card in his hand, Apathy nodded absently, phone to his ear. Who would've thought that such a little thing could cause such a ruckus? Well, it'd make a good souvenir, at least, and Apathetic gave it no further thought as he slipped the card into a jacket pocket.
