My god, I've made a discovery eek Due to the nature of this discovery (and its importance) I've posted it here instead of the Research sub-forum. Please understand.

I was walking home from school one day late at night (after quite a lot of dilly-dallying and chatting it up). When I looked ahead, I noticed something. The trees were dead but still had leaves yet to fall, the sky was red, the moon was out in almost full height but the sun was still casting light on the world... Then I realized that I was witnessing the union of opposites (alchemy).

I puzzled over this for a very brief moment. The union of opposites was always the alchemist's attempt at achieving perfection. It was always a goal to strive for. How could it be so blatantly staring me in the face in the real world?

The instant I made this realization a million images and ideas flashed in my mind. It all made sense but it was all senseless. I suddenly understood everything despite not being able to understand it. I had realization after realization coming at me faster than my mind could grasp them, and yet somehow I managed to comprehend these word-less, meaning-less thoughts. Symbols appeared in my head, images of people being born and dying appeared, I saw things being torn apart and things being built.

I can think of no way to put into words the images that went through my head, as they had no words accompanying and they came at speeds greater than I knew the human mind could think. However the ability of manipulation was right there in front of me. I was seeing real alchemy. Not the simplified, dumbed-down alchemy we use today to protect ourselves from idiocy. I saw the real thing- the ability to turn lead into gold should you wish, the ability to bind souls, the ability to heal the sick, the ability to re-create the earth.

The only issue is that there was no way for me to harness that which I saw. I had no means of controlling it, I had no way to perform the feats I noticed. Then I realized that I could create an enchantment that'd aide me in this power. I quickly ran through all the images I had seen in my head- I desperately sought to find whatever image it was that could portray what I had seen. I needed some symbol, some sigil, something to imbue with all that I had seen.

Then in an instant I noticed something so simple that no one would ever have imagined it. Something that was always right in front of us and no one ever bothered to look at it. The only symbol that accurately portrays the union of opposites, and I realized the reason that it had never worked in the past.

It's nothing but the symbol for water and fire, also the symbol for earth and air. But if you look, it also contains the star of David (the symbol of Solomon), and if you look again it contains this star inverted. In this one image you also see two smaller triangles of each elements (two water, two fire, two earth, two air) all balancing each other. That totals three of each element- three being the number of points in the triangle. Life, death, and reincarnation. Past, present, and future. The square created by the corners of this symbol represent creation- but the lines going across the circle represent destruction. Also in the center is a hexagon- six sides. Look how many symbols run the circumference of the holiest circle- six.

But this symbol is exactly what our simplified alchemical lessons had taught us. Why is it that only now, after this amazing vision, did I realize its power? The truth is because alchemy is nothing but enchantments. A few, or tens, or hundreds, or thousands of sigils all combined to do what you please, but the entire time it's nothing but a symbol with a defined purpose. When one gives the symbol a different meaning, they also give the symbol different power. Just as any enchantment, it holds the power you imbue in it- and I learned the power originally imbued in this symbol.

Let's review since I feel I was just rambling in my excitement ninja

1. Alchemical symbols are enchantments
2. Alchemy is the mixture of enchantments
3. Alchemy has, over the years, been "dumbed down" so we don't kill ourselves
4. I found out how to return to the original alchemy

With this discovery, I learned something else, too. Something almost frightening. I would like FLCL to check me on this, but from what I saw, unless there's some other powers at work that I didn't grasp, you don't even need hundreds of alchemical circles. You can perform any form of alchemy you want- changing metals, binding souls, fusing items, what-have-you -with only one circle.

From what I've come to understand, this is the only circle you'll ever need.

And I realize something about this circle. It lacks a point of focus. It's nothing but sheer power with nothing to pinpoint it on. This is where we depend on the alchemist. This symbol, if granted that power, can do anything. You need merely understand it and with willpower alone make it manipulate only that which the alchemist focuses on. A point to focus energy on is useless, as it's the alchemist who supplies the energy and the alchemist who may focus this power without the aide of visuals.

I've noticed this symbol has more than just the ability to manipulate physical or spiritual objects, though. Upon finding this symbol and drawing it upon my door, I noticed the entire world bending towards my will. Not just the manipulation of objects or spirits, but an absolute control over fate. We received no homework when I didn't desire it, the projects I spent so long on were completed and done well, and I even found myself able to go without eating and feel no hunger pains, or able to eat all I wish and never get full. I even got a full night's sleep and was well-rested in only 4 hours! Just by having this symbol in my mind things worked as I desired them to.

However I know the powers of alchemy and I know that you cannot gain without taking from somewhere. I realize that to bring to me must take from others. For this reason I just this morning destroyed the symbol at my door and now I shall only create this circle when in desperate need. However to this day I've yet to see it fail me.

EDIT by ambrose_sallia, This isn't merely a conspiracy or anything of that sort. Please trust him and try hard to forget the symbol you saw. I didn't understand until just last night the full power of it, and now I fear it may be too late. FLCL has removed the image in case there is still time to protect people.

Becaue I just have to point this out:


Your symbol forms a Mandala. A square in a circle.

By definition it would be raw power, but it is balanced power due to its shape.

I like this. It seems like real development. Just contemplating it- It has a shape and essence which is pleasing to the eye and to the senses. It is an inspired simplification which I have seen looked for in other symbols. Seeing it is like finding something you forgot you were searching for.

I congratulate you on your epiphany.

So...why did it come back. Is the human race ready to try again...or is Ambrose going to get smited?

Does anyone else notice that the image looks different when you see it out of the corner of your eye? One difference it looked to have was the smaller triangles becoming rounded...

Nope, sorry. I think they should stay.
