The only reason I bring this up is because of Aila-al-Jehan. They asked about Servitors and so I thought, "Hey, I don't believe anyone has said anything about Chaos Magic Yet, lets have a discussion; YAY!" So here we go.

Discuss what you want about it, your views, ideas, thoughts, experiences, this is a discussion to see what people know, have questions about, anything. This thread is the canvas and your mind shall make the painting.

(***Note*** Keep this PG-13!!!)

Life may not be PG-13, but Gaia is. If we break the PG-13 violation, we'll get reported and then the Guild will be shut down. Therefore, we are to keep this conversation PG-13 or milder to avoid getting MPRILC shut down and quite possibly getting someone perma-banned.

Chaos Magick, according to my VERY limited understanding of it, is a form of Magick based around utilizing the often unstable and potentially dangerous energies of chaos. Though, much like with any other kind of Magick, there's a lot of reading up to be done just before you decide to cast a spell. Doing one's homework before going on and casting a spell might make the working with the energies a little less dangerous. Then again, the risk of anything tends to be decreased when you know what the heck you're doing.

Mind you, I don't really know what I'm talking about at all, as I'm not really a knowlegeable source on ANY kind of Magick. But..Eh.. sweatdrop

Well chaos magic is more your own energy, well the minds. It also has no real rules and you can do what you like, but then you have to deal with what ever concequinces. I got to go to school, explain more later.

I posted this in another one of my guilds, its not finished, but, it hurts to type to much at a time. The book its from is called The Encyclopedia of Magic and Witchcraft

Chaos Magic

Unlike most other magical practices chaos magic is not a spiritual path. Using the maxim "Nothing is true, everything is perminant", chaos magicians emphasize pragmatic techniques and observable results in the world as it is directly experienced as a form of sorcery. The aim is to achieve alternative states of consciousness or "gnosis". Chaos magic has acquired a certain notoriety for being sinister, even Satanic. This is becuase it rejects spiritual elemnts in its practices. Above all, it offers an opportuniy to explore non-ordinary reality without the hinderance of accepted beliefs, and in the process, its practitioners claim inspiration, knowledge, power and heightened perception are gained.

Chaos magic was created in the late 1970's with the emergence of punk rock and the theoretical explorations in science that came to be called chaos theroy. Influenced by both Aleister Crowley and Austin Osman Spare, chaos magic is above all a practical approach to practising magic. Chaos magicians claim that all the methods of working magic are the same, despite differing symbols and belief systems. Chaos magic is thus a means to an end, rather than an end itself. It claims to escher the dogma of other approaches in its emphasis on avoiding the use of any one magical "system", advocating experimentation with many practices. According to chaos magician Phil Hine, chaos mgic is concerned with deconditioning from "the mesh of beliefs, attitudes and fictions about self, society and the world". Through the idea of the "paradigm" (which in chaos magic means the individual talking up a personal, magic role model), the magician can switch into and out of many magical techniquest using the maxim, "If it works, use it", while leaving his or her beliefs behind. Chaos is not a religion - its forcus is not on what may be termed "spirituality" - it is more specifically the utilization of magical techniques for the attainment of alternate states of consciousness or "gnosis". "Spiritual truth has no meaning; whatever feels right is important. It glorifies fantasy and is a concious and deliberate dislocation from andy historical and spiritual tradition.

Basic Principles

The basic principles of chos magic are expressed by the maxim "Nothing is true, all is permitted." They may be summed up as : an avoidance of any form of dogmatis: a focus on personal experiences; technical excellence in development of skills and abilities in the performance of a magical act; deconditioning the self by modifying and discarding belifs and "ego-fictions"; and an eclection and diverse approach, choosing from themes as wide apart as science fiction or tantrism, or adoption the beliefs of a spiritual system, if they are though to serce a useful function. The overall im is to achieve gnosis as a form of inner knowledge.

Eight forms of magic are represented on the "chaosphere". Octarine is pure or raw magic, representing the development of therories and philosophies. Black magic is death magic and concerns the ritual rehearsal of death. Blue magic is concerned with the control of other people and the creation of wealth. Red magic is associated with war. Yellow mgic is involved with the ego or self image. Green magic is about love. Orange magic concerns though and living by the wits. Purple or silver is associated with sex magic.

Peter Carroll, in his book Liber Kaos (1992) sees magic as the consequence of the structure of the universe, and he visualizes it as five serpents - of space, time, mass, energy and aether- each biting their tails and giving birth to themselves out of their own mouths. Carroll's view of the universe indicates that it is random, as it the indiviual's relationship with it: he ofers no permanate model. His early writings appeared in the magazine The New Equinox, and it was here that the magical order the Illuminates of Thanateros (IOT) was first advertised. The IOT was formed in 1978 by Peter Carroll and Ray Sherwin to provide inspiration for chaos magicians. It was not a teaching order with initiation hierarchies but rather an organization where people could come together to practise and ublish practical magic. This was not an easy as it sounds, some people expect eaching and leaders, but no rules or instructions were ever givin, only suggestions on how to reach "that which could not be taught".

([...*.I am Aila-al-Jehan.*...])
Im so flattered. biggrin
But here's another question... since chaos magick is the rejection of dogma and tradition, would eclectic (using magickal techneques for other traditions but ignoring the dogma) magick be synonimous with chaos magick? Hmmm...

There is no difference in magick, all things in it are the same. It is divided to make it easier, I believe, for people to use it, but in reality there is no difference.
