My GSA decided that when we hear people say "thats gay" we sould say something back like "i didn't know it even had a gender!" or "i didn't know that could procreate!" or "it has a sexuality?" yeah... i tihnk its a good idea.

...OMGZORZ.
That's actually pretty funny, and it's a lot better than the "that's so straight", because it can't offend anything...unless they're saying "He's so gay," or something... I don't know what I'm saying, lol.
GOOD IDEA! *huggle*

Idk, for some reason I've never really found the whole "that's gay!" thing offensive. Half the people I know that use that phrase support homosexuality anyways.
People really shouldn't even take this phrase for what it means at face value anymore. For example, PLENTY of atheists say "Oh my God!". They don't believe in a God and so don't have one, but people just take it as a term of surprise. Similarly, people will say "that sucks!", meaning something is bad, not that is performs oral sex. Many phrases such as these are interpreted to mean something different than what they actually mean, so I don't see what the point of fussing over it is anyways.

My cousin used to say that alot. I'm weird so he used to say "you're so gay!" alot especially. But he could never come back into it after I said "And?" xd I don't mind the whole "That's so gay thing." But I usually tell them "Stop trying to insult something with a compliment!"
It is just a habit like "oh my god" and it changes around. Change to some new random term. But my very very good friend who used to think she was bi (she might still think this actually. she's more the 'I don't care right now cause I have someone' at this time) who is still very supportive and all that kind of stuff but she got into a habit of calling things "faggots" cause that was the popular slang term running through her school. I really don't like that word and she did attempt to stop as soon as I brought it up but it's habit.
But, I don't care anymore really, as long as they aren't hurting anyone. That's what counts right?

Yarru But, I don't care anymore really, as long as they aren't hurting anyone. That's what counts right? Yeah i know what you mean on this one... I have/had the tendancy to use the term Dyke in a neutral manner and usually when referring to myself... I doubt that i've offended any of my other friends but it is something to take into consideration...Thankies

I've always said "[insert word used in that statement] has a sex?" And now I'm reminded of my ex-gf's best friend with really wavy hair saying, "My hair is gay, 'cause it definitely ain't straight," and my response, "Neither's mine... However, if I didn't, my hair would still be gay because it's part of me."

I always use the words how they're supposed to be used. for example, if a person calls me gay, I'll respond with 'Why yes, I *am* in a good mood! Thank you for noticing!'. For 'f**', I use, 'I'm asthmetic! Why would I have a cigarette on me?' For Queer, I say, "Why yes, I *am* abnormal!"

I like it...unfortunately we (as a general populace) are still teaching our children (and other children) that saying "thats so gay" or "thats retarded" is OK. We don't actively teach them this, but they learn it without our help, and we do nothing to stop it because we think nothing of it. But when someone says "thats gay" or "thats retarded" they are saying something is bad, which then means gay/retard=bad. And that is not right. If that was right, then my brother and I would both be bad.
sorry if that made no sense...my head is KILLING me from the inside out! confused

I really prefer this to the other idea of making "That's so gay" positive and "That's so straight" negative, because it then doesn't put down anyone at all. Plus, it rather does make the person saying it feel kinda ridiculous.

Hahaha, I did that during a Halo 2 match (not online), and my friend paused the game, looked at the Xbox, got up, walked over to it, said, "Well, let's find out!" and proceeded to make humping motions on it. All I could do was look at him with a face something like this:
