I feel that anime/manga is just japanese tv/comics. That's all it is. They are interested in different things than the general american public. I.E. Magical Girl shows and all. I'm also not a huge fan of how popular it has become. I am really not happy about how companies have gobbled this new marketing ploy and only brought out a very select group of shows. There are many other good things out there (video games included) that we will never get here. Sadly. So I'm both happy and sad with the popularity. Cheaper DVD's and such, but . . . . . yeah.

I've been an anime/manga fan for a long time and at this point I'm actually getting kind of tired of it. That quality of shows/manga we're getting here seems to be decreasing as popularity goes up everything we get stateside follows a basic formula and I'm sick of it it's boring. On the other hand as I get older I'm watching more and more vintage anime (I mean really vintage 70's and up) and am refereshed by it I don't have to look at the exact same character designs and see essentially the same sorts of characters. IE Brooding guy, Perky girl, shy girl/guy, Outgoing (read leader) who wears red or pink for a girl,Tough girl, Goofy guy and of course the misunderstood villian/villaness. Those basic charcters can fit into almost any anime these days (and a large number in the past as well) And I'd like to see um, I don't know, cross-dressing leader guy, and bitchy girl who just is that way and is not at all misunderstood. I don't know.... just something to make things more interesting to have more variety. The lack of innovation (or at least lack of innovation we see) just makes me sad. I'm just hoping everyone will eventually get as bored as me and then we'll finally see some new and different things.

i agree whole heartedly. The thing is you have to sit back and look at what japanese animation is (for the most part anyway) is a business. Its the same with clothing and what not, if a formula is good you milk it until no one likes it anymore. For anime though, i'm not too sure if it *is* bad. Sure you might have to sift through a lot of stuff to find that hidden gem within the group, but it makes the series that much more intimate and loved to you. One thing I'm tired of is the whole "believe in yourself and you can do anything" stories. Example being Naruto (just try not to hear the english voices, can you say horrible? BELIEVE IT!) I mean how many times can you do something just by believing in yourself? Sure the audience will be happy if the hero "wins" or beats the bad guy, but does it flow with the story right? most of the time its a no. Although while writing this one of my favorite anime/manga is exactly that a "believe in yourself story" (air gear) so i guess i really cant complain after all... hmmm...

I think it's more of something people watch/read because it's stuff that doesn't happen in real life, and they want to "experience" it.

I think anime/manga should magically
becomes reality over night.
Things would be a lot more interesting.
... Guys would be so much more good looking.

Hey good question.

Anime for me is entertainment that catches my heart, I guess I could say that. Its just makes my day to watch an anime, especially if its a really good one. Fight scenes, romantic, comedy. <3

Manga another form of entertainment less cheaper to buy compared to an anime DVD and also more detailed story and more concentrated characters than the anime ones. Manga is portable unlike the anime.

I like them both even though they have contrast and comparison. >___<

Well, I think anime/manga (a/m) are, of course, fake and drawn. Some are really cruddy and bad as some are terrific and great as all things depending on your taste and opinion. It's incredibly common and you see it all over the internet, yet in my area, it is dead. It's entertaining and something to do/read/watch/draw/whatever. The ones that are interesting with stories, characters, and all that good stuff, I just love with my heart (such as Yu Yu Hakusho, Death Note, Gundam SEED) and those that I don't like (I'm afraid to name them sweatdrop )...I just don't like. Enough said about that. It's a matter of opinion and it's probably the kind of topic noobs should avoid because they'll just flame. A/M is also a falme target as well as something to like and admire. Some shrug it off for being too common, but who cares! Opinion opinion!

What I look for in A/M to hate are cliches, things that are predictable, annoying characters, and that sort of thing. I look for emotion, individuality, strangeness, seriousness/comedy (depending on the series) and it being able to keep to the plot.

Anime = greatest way to become broke quickly. mrgreen

I agree; there are some series that are very origininal, but there are others which I just hate with a passion because they are TOO cliche. 3nodding

I would say they are like cartoons, but they have more and a lot of different types of plots unlike cartoons which just basically is..superhero like. But they are better drawn, and look more like real people than cartoons, at least a little more.

I would say that anime/manga is a large chunk of my life, as sad as that concept may be. My entire life and my habits revolve around anime and manga and what happens in both of those categories. I would say that without the world of anime/manga I would have practically nothing to do with myself during my depressed boredom and whatnot except cut myself. With anime/manga, I can either a) watch other people cut themselves or b) not cut myself and watch something funny. It's an even existence. I buy you and keep YOU going, you let me watch you and keep ME going. mrgreen

That's actually sort of the way with. At times when you just hate life..(happens very often), with anime, you can sort of just laugh it off..
