I'm pretty much at home with every genre, but I really enjoy bands that are a little off of mainstream (although my favorite is as close to mainstream as you can get without being in it: The Might Be Giants). I think it might be just my aversion to seeming like everybody else, but I really do like the music. Anyone else?

Well, i'm about 15 years old and I really like classical, that's not very typical, right? I mean, considering that a majority of the people in my school listen to *shudder* rap and hip-hop...

I've been drifting from the mainstream sound, I'm getting bored of the same old thing over and over. My current favorite band is Radiohead, though I also like things like Coldplay, Bjork, Sigur Ross, Muse, etc. Probably the most "mainstream" band I listen to would be The Smashing Pumpkins. Pink Floyd is also good, too.

Until I was about 15 or so, my only type of music I ever enjoyed was video game mixes. The background music that you'd hear from (for example) megaman games.
Right now, I like basically any rock genre of music.

I ignore any knowledge of mainstream almost completely when it comes to music. Sure, Linkin Park is almost mainstream. I like it. Evanescence is almost mainstream. I like it too. I don't care if something I like is in mainstream or not. I like it. It shouldn't matter to majorities OR minorities.
I'm normally not a big fan of metal because I'm not fond of the gruff voices, but I liked Rammstein once I got used to it. w00t German metal!! =D
I used to be into anything jPop, but I apparently (I typed Poop by accident!) lost interest over time. >>
I like bands that include a young, male teenage voice. =D Like Backstreet Boys (Don't kill me) or Reliant K.
I also like some of Michael Jackon's songs he wrote when he was still the leader of the Jackson Five. Sure, he's a creepy ***** nowadays, but his songs were so cute when he was little! =D

I pretty much like all rock ranging from the mid-sixties to the late nineties. I also like some newer stuff like The Darkness, Tokyo Dragons, Jet, and Nashville p***y.

Most of the music that I like are completely unknown to my friends from school, although at least most people like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Utada Hikaru.
Ilona Mitrecey's on top 40 in France and some other European countries, but I don't know anyone in Hong Kong or Sydney that's heard about her other than from me. I'm not sure about the other French and German bands.
There are some bands that no longer exist that I like, and my Chinese friends are usually the ones that don't know about them, although I have some internet friends that like them. (for example: Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Sublime, Divinyls)
There are also some largely forgotten artists that had one really popular single, like Fool's Garden, Jill Sobule, and Frickin' A.
There are also the actually obscure ones like Ghost Mice, Rymodee, and Saw Wheel.

I don't care if a band is 'mainstream' or not either; I listen to a lot of things and tend to find all my favorites through Yahoo! LaunchCast. I like things from Rammstein to They Might Be Giants to Celtic traditional folk music to the occasional bit of classical to Sting to Nickelback to Chumbawumba.
Half the time I don't even know the name of the artist I'm listening to, or the song. I just know the song itself.

Hence his sister's oddly fitting name, which they didn't change in the American version of the games, making the pair "Megaman and Roll". In fact, everyone in the Megaman universe is named after some type of music or musical term. "Protoman" is actually Blues, "Bass" is Forte, and so on. *BACK ON TOPIC* I actually got the idea for this thread because my friend gave me a CD with a bunch of really weird songs on it. She takes music from everyone around her, then redistributes it all mixed up.

I like classic rock, ska, swing music, and... well, I guess you can call it "angry girl" music, since I have no idea what genres they're in: I like Alanis Morissette, Avril Lavigne, and Melissa Ethridge. I also like Jewel and Hanson (yes, Hanson)... the occasional bit of pop, and Garth Brooks. eek Yup, I love Garth Brooks. He's the only male country singer I like, though. There's something about his voice that's really different. I haven't heard much of Lee Ann Rimes' work, but I love her rendition of "The Rose." I might also like Sum 41 (though their songs take some getting used to... I only own one of their albums, "Does This Look Infected?" I also like people who sing song parodies, like Dr. Demento or Weird Al Yankovich. And maybe some Japanese songs.
So, basically, I listen to anything that sounds good. I typically can't stand songs with excessive swearing, or songs about girls who treat boys badly (or vice-versa), or drug abuse, or over-the-top "gangsta" BS. Aaaaaand... that's it. sweatdrop
