How do you say "Yaoi"? My friend and I say it like "Yow-ee" and I know another person that says like like, "Yo-la" but he's illiterate. neutral
What's the official pronounciation?

From what I understand it is pronounced: "Ya-OH-ee"
Most people say "yow-ee" I think.

Well it's made up of three different sounds from the Japanese alphabet, so you should make sure you're making something like three syllables when you say it.
Ya is basically yah. You hear it in English when people say "Ya know what I mean?" O is basically oh. No explaination needed. I is basically ee. In Japanese the e letter makes an eh sound and the i makes an ee sound, which usually throws people off. You can hear the i sound in english like in the word key.

I always thought it was ya-oi, but my friend said otherwise, so I decided to check wikipedia and they say it's pronounced "ya-oh-ee", like most others said. I still pronounce it ya-oi on occasion though. sweatdrop

It's "ya-oh-ee" but it's usually pronounced so fast, it sounds like "yow-ee" so people have started actually saying "yow-ee"..

((--Alice-Kun--)) XD I don't know how you pronounce but I do know I pronounce it as Yah-oh. I've been saying it that way for years. Same here. But than again I suck at trying to pernounce things and as far as I can see, I am supposed to say it Ya-oh-ee.... but that ee at the end does not roll off the tounge and makes it weird to say so I stick with Yah-oh

I try to say 'ya-o-i' as three syllables but I once mispronounced it as 'Yahweh' with hilarious results xd
