Conspiracy theories, threats to our safety by various groups in power, everybody and their cousin being a potential suspect/murderer/fill in the blank, all this mistrust going 'round has turned the phrase 'Trust no one' into a way of life that people swear by. According to many people, if you give even an inch to a potential threat, it can find its way in, and ruin your life physically, mentally, and spiritually. And with the current rise in our 'level of security' things that were once thought to be mere scence fiction have become everyday parts of our reality. Have we become a bunch of mistrustful balls of instability, that can't even step outside our homes, without someone, or something watching our back at every turn? Should we be willing to sacrifice our personal freedom, for a sense of security? When does trust become nothing more than a roadblock on the road to being safe?

To sacrifice freedom for security is to deserve neither and lose both. This is something I've believed from the start. There's a line that should not be crossed, and we haven't crossed it, yet. Unfortunately, we are approaching it at a seemingly inexorable rate...

It's a frustrating phenomenon to think about. The question is, what can we do if it's real, and would it be a waste of time to worry about it if it isn't?

It is funny, because this is the FREE country and all that Jazz. But <.< on the subject and all. Is being free really worth our priviacy?? It was brought up in a topic LONG agon in some class I can't remeber psychology I think, we were dicussing Paranoia, go figure.

So, how many people out there are really that scared?? Some yes, majority, no. Some people go through life with out even thinking of such things.

One thing that made us really think: The movie the Matrix, it started a BIG trend (where I am anyway) About how it may be true, and the meanings and syblomisms behind it all. IS there really a Matrix?? Another question BIG paranoia going on there.

Then, we also have to think about all those crazy reality tv shows. THey are being watched by cameras. But they seem to go through their day as if the camera's and mics aren't there. <.< (Real world Mtv, yadda yadda) That brings alot of Paranoia to me, because sometimes I wonder if someone has abig screen tv and I am a show. <.< a boring one, lol for geek lovers only. ^__^

Keep in mind that most reality shows have the competitors sign a contract that says they'll at least try to act normal on-camera, and that some of the entrants are voyeurs who get their jollies in the spotlight. smile

The Matrix paranoia is intrigugingly valid, except two things:
1) If it's real, does it effect us? The Matrix is, by definition, a mirror of ordinary life. Even at the end of the films, for most 'blue pills', life just goes on anyhow.
2) If it's false, what's the point in believing in it? This is a case where this applies moreso than it would for many other religious beliefs (which is, to some extent, what the Matrix, from a 'blue pill' POV, would boil down to). The machines don't give a damn if you believe in them or not; there's no hell for those who don't believe in or dont' like the machines. You're processed for heat until you get a red pill anyways.

I've passed all of them except for Survivor MAX and -Respect-, since I don't generally get to play them ever.

Yeah, Mint sorta derailed it intentionally. (I've passed Survivor MAX though =D)

Honestly, looking at the thread again... I would prefer some privacy to some freedom on certain levels.

I'd love being the center of attention. Bring on the security. I'd do everything suspiciously, from buying milk to talking in code with my friends about what videogames we're playing through the day. Anything and everything to waste their time supervising me. I'd intentionally masturbate in the presence of their cameras, just to give them a show. Honestly, give "Security for freedom" a month. Just a month. After that, the world's pervs would cause the government to pervert itself, or just give up on mass surveillance without cause all together.

Me and my friend were talking the other day, and it turns out the new trend in high tech security in England is that they have cameras watching the streets, but the person behind the camera has a mic, and if they see you doing something you aren't suppose to be doing they can turn on the mic and say "Hey...hey you pick that piece of paper up...no littering." Ha ha! ...yea....so that is pretty tricky...and could make a few many english paranoid. Yes?? ninja
