I Live with my mom because my parents are divorced.I have four other siblings.I think my mom is bi-polar. The other day she walked into my room and smacked my sister across the face for no absolute reason! I triple checked and there is no reason why my mom did that but she did. My sister was crying and a minute later she walks in and asks if we wanted something to eat and asked my sister why she was crying.Another time she Hit my sister and demanded her cell phone. Three minutes later she walked in and in a sweet tone asked my sister if she could borrow her cell phone. She turns ver agressive and just like that it's gone!I'm afraid she'll hurt one of my little sisters or brother and before you suggest going with my dad the reason she left him was because he's very abusive and I think he suffers from schizophrenia. H takes pills and has a history of aggresive behavior and abuse. What do I do? and is my mom Bi-polar?

bi-polar is a mental illness when a person shifts from being very depressed to extremly happy. While your mother does switch her mood on a dime, it sounds to be like she's more schizophrenic (sp?) then bipolar. However, I'm no doctor and the best thing you can do is talk to your mother about her actions and suggest that she see a phycologist. She owes it to her children and the atmostphere of the house. If your mother gets aggresive at this suggestion or threathens you or your siblings again, even during treatment if she decides to take it, go to the police Even if your mother means good, what she's doing is wrong and unhealthy for everyone so the best thing you can do is look for help from an adult you can trust (teacher, guidance consellor, police, etc.) and explain the situation.

Actually, this seems more like borderline personality disorder, given the fact that your mom can turn so quickly. But I would definitely do something about it, prbably therapy or the cops if necessary, like Lauranthalis said.

yep.. undoublty she has a mental illness... probably personality disorder... you should tell her (when she is her sweet-mood) that she could see a psychologist... or if you really cant handle the situation, go to the police... or call the ambulance and bring her to an psychiatric hospital.

I am bipolar, but your mom sounds schizophrenic to me. If she doesn't remember doing these things to your sister she may have multiple personalities. Try recording her strange behavior so you can SHOW her what she's doing.

it's common to get skitzophrenia(sp?) and bi-polar mixed up. she's not bi-polar. with bi-polar you know everything you have and havn't done. It's possible acutlally that she has a stress induced skitzo. which is where she's taking on too much in her life and she's having a brakedown. the only person who can help her at this moment would be a psycologist.
