I was looking through my phonebook and I noticed there are 6 abortion clinics in my area (a place of over a million people!) and there are 5 'abortion alternatives' listed right next to abortion in the phone book. I also discovered through a close friend of mine who's mother is a pro-life protester that for the 6 actual abortion clinics there are 4 others that are fake 'crisis pregnancy' centers that pretend to offer abortion to brainwash girls.

So when most girls do research to find out where they can get an abortion there's a good chance a great deal of them will stumble across a fake one. And also, all the actual abortion clinics are in Norfolk, Virginia Beach, or Newport News (the biggest cities), while the fake ones are in smaller places where you'd have to drive a half hour to get an actual abortion. So all the girls who live in bigger cities will probably be able to go to an actual abortion clinic while all the country girls will end up in a fake because there are no actual abortion clinics where they live. My friend also said that most pro-lifers go for small towns when setting up fakes to get to all the girls who don't want to have to take a long trip, and this is all over the country, not just in Virginia.

How can you tell if an abortion clinic is fake?

1. It's in a place it wouldn't make much since for an abortion clinic to be (like next to a church, or right near another clinic).
2. They don't give a direct answer for any abortion questions you have.
3. It goes under a religious based name, like "For His Children" or calls itself a 'crisis pregnancy center' (though I'm sure there are a few actual abortion clinics that do that) since most fakes do that.
4. It's not listed in your local phonebook.

Those are all signs a clinic may be fake and if you suspect it as such you should call and ask directly if the offer abortion. Most of these people won't lie to you so they'll just avoid the question. If a place refuses to say if they offer abortion on the phone, it's a fake. Any real abortion clinic will give you a direct answer.

That's really disgusting dishonest. It saddens me greatly. Both for the girls and for the fact there are bastards that would actually sink that low.

Argh! gonk scream Those places make me want to take a page from the Anarchists Cookbook, though I know it'd be more a danger to myself and it's illegal anyway and real murder is wrong.

There isn't a real clinic in my area, just a fake one, who also teach (don't have) sex ed. But you know what? There ARE pregnant sophmores and even freshmen! Now, I'm not suggesting correlation implies causation, but...

Well, anyway, here are some things I learned about fake clinics from experience:

1. Check their website to see if they have a newsletter, as some are less obvious about being faith-based.
2. They offer "post-abortion counseling" but do not list abortion as an actual service.
3. They endorse abstinence-only, might even teach it, but do not make mention of contraception.

The BIGGEST and most noticable indicator that it's a "crisis pregnancy" center is that they use the billboard signs that say "Pregnant? Scared? Call..." They also have a website at the bottom of these (http://www.optionline.org).

I think Rep. Waxman had a committee call these centers and pretend to be pregnant women, looking for help. The federally funded centers repeatedly gave them false information about abortion, such as the age-old claims that it increases future miscarriages, possbilities of infertility, breast cancer, "post-abortion stress syndrome," etc.

Here's the report by Rep. Waxman. It's a .pdf file at the bottom of the page.

I live just outside of Lubbock, Texas, and we actually have a Planned Parenthood that provides abortions. I know I've seen the signs for a fake clinic, but I can't remember if I've seen it in the phone book. I'll definitely have to check that out.

In this case, it probably does. It's been repeatedly found that abstinence-only education, or the "promise rings" they give out, doesn't really stop kids from having sex; however, when they do have sex, kids who had abstinence-only are less likely to use a form of contraception than kids who had comprehensive sex education. Makes sense... if you don't teach them the facts and how to prevent pregnancy, how do we expect them to do so?

Since, I live in a rural community, I decided to check our phone book (it is a combination of 10 rural communities all outside of Tulsa) and there are no abortion clinics listed - just "abortion alternatives" and one is a baptist church. Could my state get any redder!

Please note the "God" link. Also check the pack-o-lies known as "STD".*

"They do NOT prevent all AIDS!! AIDS is NOT curable!! AIDS=DEATH! Don't play around with your life like this!"

I know this wasn't meant to be funny, but the wording reminds me of the tweenies that routinely post in the ED thread and is quite amusing.

"Postpone Sex Until Marriage and Keep It Within the Marriage..."

Because, you know, God's sacred gift of Holy Matrimony will definately keep you from being "indirectly exposed...because their partner has had sex with someone else."

What fools. Being married doesn't protect you from STDs, 'specially if your spouse doesn't know they're infected. neutral

gonk

Edit: That baby in the top right corner looks like its been put in a see-through garbage bag. Can't you get in serious trouble for pulling something like that? Dx

Oh, but then they'll just retort with "well your partner should've abstained! And the Bible says you should only marry a virgin so it's your own fault for going against Jesus' word!" (Nevermind that the aforementioned verse is in Leviticus, which was written well before Jesus' time. If it's also mentioned elsewhere, please let me know.)

Also, can't you transfer certain STDs to your child in utero?
"But your mother should've abstained!" GAH.

Religion is OLD, these rules were based in a time when, if they didn't have the rules, rape would would be like wildfire and there would be bastards everywhere. Back then, it was the safest idea to wait until marriage that way there were no extra "heirs" to thrones running around and there wasn't so much rape.

But times have changed since way back then, and so must the rules. If people want to insist that things be done the same way back when the bible was written, then they are clearly refusing to see we live in an entirely different enviroment.

With people choosing to be with multiple partners we can't stay abstinate all that time! And who would blame us. We live longer lives than they did so we don't marry off younger so we have more relationships, it's not a bad thing.

We can't live by those rules anymore, they're outdated. People need to learn that.

this website makes me want to smash my head against a brick wall. This it especially made me make this particular face = mad

...imagine two pieces of tape. You have taken these 2 pieces off the roll and used them. Then you took them up again and used them again and again. What happens to them? They lose their stickiness and can't stick any more.

That is how it is with a couple getting married who has already given himself/herself away sexually to a number of partners. They get married, but then difficulties arise...financial problems, hectic schedules, raising children. The couple does not have much to bond them together. The problems tear them apart...they lost their stick-to-it-ness .
