Excuse me, but whose crazy?

Pups were quite easily the scum of the earth. They were useless, noisy, messy, completely dependant, and, they made you fat, forever. Meskeet honestly saw no reason to ever have them. There were plenty of wolves running around without adding more. The only thing they were good for was keeping up the population, and right now that population was quite steady.

The only good pup was one for dinner.

So as Meskeet lay in a hidden thicket she was only mildly amused by all the horrors pregnancy entailed. Having freshly awoken from an unexpected nap she was rather disappointed that with the exit of sleep her driving anger had decided to make leave aswell. Without that she saw this particular moment in time as utterly useless.

A slight kick in her side made her ears go flat and she toyed cruelly with a black beetle crawling across a stick as she wondered if it was possible to kill pups before they left the womb. The little rats certainly deserved it taking residence in her body.

User ImageLittle did the brown know how much that the red shared her opinion on such matters. Not so much on the topic of luncheon, but yes, puppies were hellions. she could not fathom their intricate little minds, their devilishly tricky questions. Hatred that burned within their little bodies so early on. They were to be scorned, and avoided, for all their stupidity. The influence one could have on one so young was sickening, they were best avoided, and not to be brought into the world.

A hiss escaped her lips; halfway between a growl and sigh. Her ears flicked in annoyance, eyes surveying the landscape. Her pack was like a bunch of puppies, or at least one half. She did manage to gain their loyalties, and apparently, their responsibilities, too. The thought that maybe her starting the pack had something to do with it came to mind, but she was quick to shove it away. No, there was something in the way that she walked, how she held herself. It must have screamed she wanted responsibility. So they had slowly indoctorated her into this alpha status.

A wolf like Kara couldn't be tamed. She had, for a while, stuck around, until they had grown far to persistent to be loved. Kara this, Kara that. How do we get back Kara? Where are we Kara? How to hunt? My child is hungry. There are no men, right Kara? She couldn't care at this point if there were men. She longed for the freedom of solitude, to bask in the rays of the striking sun. To run with the river forever, until her heart threat to burst. For a moment, she considered doing just that. Ending her life in the blessed lifeforce that was the river. Interrupting the crystaline liquid with so many strikes of foot her body gave up and let her end the beating; but she had not. Instead she had struck refuge in the thickets, deep within the forest, only hoping her scent, so strong, would not lead the creatures here.

Her tail flicked as a bird sang, and a grin came to her maw. A full year had passed since the beginning, she was now well practiced in her art as a leader. Yet her heart yearned for Ran, and even in some ways that seer she so despised, yet at the same time there was something else beneath it? Could it be, that she wished to have him as no wolf could? The thought brought laughter to the back of her throat.

The bird flew.

Kara tensed, her ears now poised alert, towards the avi that had taken wing. It was then that she smelled it, another. A female, younger, but still, it was another. The laughter that had stopped rose again, except it was not a low rumble, almost a growl. This was not the laughter of happiness, it was the laughter of fools. Her tail flicked once, still high, but her head was posed low, protecting her vulnerable throat. The scent did not move, she waited, but it stayed, and soon natural instinct was replaced by curiousity. Her body shifted, toying with the weight that settled on her paws, then she made up her mind.

Step. She was a bit closer. Step. Step. Her heart beat just a bit more as she broke into a trot, the serrated edges of ferns tugging toyingly at her sides as she moved. The scent grew stronger, and she stopped, now listening, head still low, tail still raised. It was a habit now, instead of a forced action, and it was wise of her to have it. She couldn't yet see the other wolf, but she knew it was there, and she wasn't about to intrude on another female's space, lest there be complications, but she still was intrigued, and so waited, knowing the other must have noticed her presence.

Sleep easily left one drowsy. Too much or too little could even make you irritable. Despite the general incline towards such feelings Meskeet found herself only partially drowsy, and unhappily unirritable.

She had peace for the time being. Quiet. It was nice, but not expected, and definately wouldn't last long. Experience always revealed that. She sat in silence as she waited for her spoiler to appear.

The red's presence had been felt long before sound or scent found its way to her. An advantage of this odd rank she'd been lucky to obtain. Not only was she able to find others or comminicate with them, or even read their minds, but she was finally set up in the perfect position. There was no doubt in her mind that Audi would finally see that she was nothing, and that Meskeet had, and always had had, the upper hand. Phantom would surely favor her over the younger nuisance. All that was left was to free herself of her current commitment, namely the spawns, and return to start filling her role.

"Can I help you?" It wasn't really out of sincere interest. Unknown wolves had ceased to amaze her. But she felt something peculiar in this particular one. Something that could be of interest.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara seemed to almost cocked an eyebrow at the other wolf. It was such a plain figure that lay before her, but a muscular one. This, coupled with scars, told Kara that the she-wolf before her had her fair share of fights. Though Kara herself showed little marks, as she liked to avoid confrontation, her height was something to gawk at.

Oh no, she wasn't a large wolf, but certainly a tall one, bearing the fine tuned muscles of althletics, for running was her life. She mused over the bitches question with feigning interest.

"Not unless you have a cure for insanity," she humored herself, and plopped down a short distance from the other. She, like the wolf before her, was intrigued, if only in the slight bit. It was an interest she showed towards all wolves, for she did so like meddling in other's business'. This one was certainly no different.

"Or is the question can I help you?" It wasn't necessarily meant to mock, but it could be taken this way. Kara knew, wolves didn't just lay down, and certainly didn't continue to lay down within another wolves presence. Or at least the one's that valued their lives. Certainly, based on Kara's standards as well, one's thoughts drifted towards how a wolf could aid them in some way, if they were quick to wit. She never had understood those pure at heart, or purely evil. A waste of bloodly time, but still, she had persued one, but was he so? It didn't matter. Just here and now, at least for the time being.

Furekatsu Anjiru
Company was something very much disliked in Meskeet's eye. Her socialization skills were poor, and she desired to make no attempts to improve them. Whether anyone's actions were rude or not didn't particularly upset her. She did however have a great dislike of being slighted.

Her ear twitched and she took the red into full consideration. Insanity was a disease. Pretty much incurable, easily spread, and even fatal if pushed far enough. Well aware of how she was percieved and just how close she was to going crazy herself she decided that little joke was one better ignored.

"I don't need any help, thanks. And before you put too much thought into it, I'm not used by others that easily, Kara." She hadn't heard the name before, but as she examined the taller wolf the name and intentions seemed to find themselves on the tip of her tongue. It would take some time to become used to her strange new abilities. But she was quite enjoying them and what she would one day be able to do with them.

She remained laying down and her tail swayed to the side as she shifted her wait to the other side of her body. Standing and sitting made things far too obvious, atleast laying down she didn't look quite so round in that expectant way. Atleast not yet. Unknown female or not, Meskeet didn't see the need to relinquish her comfortable position at the moment.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara shrugged, not much caring whether or not the female needed any help. It was all the better for her if she didn't, not that Kara would have done anything anyway. A laugh escaped her lips, "Trust me, I didn't." But of course, it was obvious that the other could trust her, merely for the fact that she could hide no secrets. The creature before her was a bedamned seer, like Kaho. How else could she easily pick off the thoughts lingering just beneath the surface of her mind, and she had given no name.

"Well, I don't suppose you'd entreat me with a name?" she questioned, stretching herself out. She didn't find the one before her particularily annoying, or inspiring. Simply another wolf in the stretch of things. Now if she happened to have some strange link to Phantom? Well that would make things interesting, and rather funny. And with the events of current, she couldn't say she doubted the possiblity.

Yet Kara was never one to stay in one's presence for long, especially univited. So with the flick of her tail, she rose to her full height. A towering tallness that many would consider formiddable, but Kara herself took no head of this knowledge.

Furekatsu Anjiru
Meskeet felt herself go tight. Not in the way she used to, were it was visible to all, but in a much quieter way. It had become a typical reaction set off by only two things, two wolves to atleast. And one happened to be Phantom. She didn't see the other as anything even close to a threat, but then she was still thinking of herself as an adolescent with strength and speed to help her in many situations. Her current cirrcumstances did tend to limit some things.

"Meskeet." She concidered formal introductions to be wastes. Better for both sides if names weren't exchanged. But who was she to bother with such things before she'd killed anything and worked up an anger fuelled adrenaline rush?

"Now what would you want with the Ghost?" It was a touchy subject, but Meskeet thrived on learning about him or acting in his behalf. While she'd never seen this female on packlands that didn't mean there was nothing going on. Her neck felt prickly inside and she restrained herself from narrowing her eyes. Casual was always better than hostile when meeting new wolves.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara wasn't one for formal introductions either, but she liked names, she liked to collect them, because names were a powerful thing. Still her patience with this wolf was dwindling and she had gotten what she wanted. There was little company she liked to stay in, and this wolf was not becoming one of them. She didn't hate this wolf, but simply found her boring. Perhaps when the younger had been an adolescent and not carrying Kara might have found her more to her liking. But as it were, Kara did not know the other was carrying cubs, and it would have made little difference.

Kara could have easily answered that she wanted nothing to do with the Ghost, and she could have made up something else as well, any response, for she herself didn't know what she wanted with the ghost. It may have been impossible to lie to a seer, but you could lie to yourself and believe something so greatly none could tell the difference. A chuckle came to her lips, but she realized now was not the time and place for such exploits.

"Right now?" she asked, as if this mattered. "Nothing. As long as he keeps away from her I'm fine." More than anything Kara had a notion to protect Ran, and Kaho too, despite her hate for them. And if it meant that Phantom must die, so be it, but she didn't really see a point in doing this. Waste of energy, plus he had his 'lackies'. Until then Phantom did as Phantom wanted, not that Kara could have done anything to stop him anyway, but she liked to hope she could. "Farewell, Meskeet, may we meet again." It was her call to leave, she didn't want to stay, and forbid the other wolf rise to stop her, solitude was calling her soul.

Furekatsu Anjiru
Meskeet watched her with considering eyes. The only thing that particularly stuck out was that Kara knew Phantom in some shape or form, and that always bothered her. But her alpha's business was his alone and she wouldn't mess with it.

"The greatest threat to Ran is herself. Can even Kaho stop that?" She stood and stretched her front legs as she did. Her tail swun behind her. Some wolves it was pointless to bother. And some held that little spark that would blossum into future encounters later on. Did she truly think she could protect Ran from Phantom? Meskeet doubted anyone could prevent him from doing anything.

But shaman were useful, and it would be a lie to say she didn't find Ran interesting. Atleast in regards to Tahara. Those butterflies that bothered her leader so seemed to touch something Meskeet hadn't believed was there. Whether it was a memory or feeling she wasn't sure. But Kara looked like the calculating sort, no doubt she would have some curiosity aswell.

"Phantom has a plan for everything, don't count on Ran's safety being anywhere on his list."

I don't really hate you.

Hurt. Hurt.

His head hurt.

Kaho whined loudly and nudged his skull harder against the tree trunk. It might have not been a good tactic in the long run, but pressure eased the headache slightly. He'd ignore the spilnters his poor head definately had stuck in it for now. How is she capable of that?

Ran was a shaman, not a seer, but in this instance you wouldn't know it. It was Kaho's fault, even if he wouldn't readily admit it, for trying to dig to far into her current maze of mind. She'd all but fallen apart with Tahara, and he'd made the mistake of thinking he could 'fix' her.

See? This is why he didn't do nice, non-beneficial for himself things. He ended up feeling like his head was being crushed between two rocks.

Trying to mess with Sosay and Phantom's minds had given him minor pain in his own mind, as all the 'crazy' ones did. But this time he'd tried to break down walls, so to speak. It was just... Well, it was pathetic to see Ran walk around limply like that, moving just to move and breathing just so she could exsist.

Even so, he realized now trying to erase Tahara from her mind completely not only wasn't possible, but it would backfire on him.

Another whine, followed by an aggravated growl. "Damn it," he hissed, thudding his head against the tree again. Ouch.

They seemed to appear one right after another. If you met one person that knew Phantom, sure enough, the other would be not far behind. So when she spotted Kaho, Kara couldn’t say that she was surprised, but still her heart leapt when she saw his face. It had been many months since she’d last seen him, and it felt like eternity. Despite her love of the loner life, she was still born a pack wolf. One half of her mind was frankly overjoyed to see this ‘friend’ to perhaps get a talk or two, but the other was disappointed. She kept hoping it might be Ran she saw, but when did she ever get her way? It seemed hardly worth trying to wish now.

“Kaho!” her joyful cry echoed. She was still far away, and couldn’t yet make out exactly what he was doing. Her ample walking speed turned into a brisk trot, then to a lope, looking forward to talking to someone she so often loathed. It seemed strange to be glad to see anyone at all, but here she was, happy thoughts dancing in her head. Perhaps she was simply in a good mood.

But something was strange about the timing. It didn’t seem quite right, and as she approached she quickly understood why. Her high head dropped, along with her wagging tail, ceasing to display the glee emitting from her just moments before. Her eyes were narrowed, thick brows furrowed as she watched him, hammering his head relentlessly. It shocked her, and for a moment she drew back, but something clicked in her mind.

“Have you gone mad!?” she half questioned, half scolded the other wolf. Perhaps someone had done something to him, yet she wouldn’t think anyone could get into his mind like that, except for maybe another seer. Her mind drifted at once to Meskeet, but she hadn’t been on bad relations with the wolf, so it quickly passed by. Another answer proposed itself. Seers were strange creatures, banging one’s head could create some sort of stimuli. If that was the case, she was glad she was no seer. Then again, it seemed most of the time Kaho wished he weren’t either.

Noyama
"Kaho!"

He may have just been being over-dramatic, but no one could judge so, given they didn't experience the pain in his head. If he was or if he wasn't, he was becoming convinced he was dying.

And then the cheerful voice called to him, and when he realized it sounded like Kara, he was positive he was.

Kara was surely happy at times. Even Phantom, even Sosay, even the meanest, coldest, or grumpiest of wolves was happy sometimes. But being happy to see him was a different story completely, and had he not been occupied trying to rid himself of the horrid pressure crashing down on his skull, he'd have been almost, if not, in a state of shock.

"My head hurts," he managed, his voice wary but at the same time lined with aggravation. If the grim reaper was coming to get him, he wished he'd hurry up and do it so he could die already...

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara wasn’t accustomed to having Kaho be angry towards her. Her eyes narrowed, tail twitching irritably. That wolf sure knew how to spoil a good mood. Alas, though, nothing could spoil her mood today, so she shrugged it off, though not without some difficulty. Instead concern washed over her face, making her creep forward just a bit farther to find out exactly what was wrong with crazy little Kaho. Oh sure, he wasn’t petite, like Ran, but to Kara almost everyone was small.

Head hurts? she mused to herself. So he’s banging it against a tree? Great lot of good that would do. She laughed, her barking song coming out, obviously not a musical note much practiced.

“You have not been meddling in others affairs have you?” she questioned. “Going after a mind too insane even for you?” It seemed like the most reasonable answer. Afterall, he had complained about her mind a time before, making him have headaches. She wondered why on earth Kaho didn’t just head for the hills and leave all wolves behind. That is, if the headaches were as bad as they said they were. Not to mention all those people wandering in while he was sleeping. . .

She broke off her thoughts momentarily to ask yet another question. “I am not the expert in such matters, but I do not believe injuring oneself makes pain lessen.” But again, she reminded herself, she wasn’t a seer, so how could she ever know these strange wolf things. Not to mention she had little inclination of proper wolf pose in any case.

Noyama
Gods, women were annoying.

...WHAT?!

ANNOYING?! As a form of self-punishment, Kaho smashed his head so hard into the wood it caused the skin to break, and a trail of blood to run down his face. If he was going to go insane and then die, his love of females would be the last thing he'd lose!

Ironicly enough, the contact caused the pain to lessen enough he could actually focus on something. Or maybe it was Kara talking. He didn't care enough to reason, he was just glad.

The seer flopped to the ground, his red eyes raising to the female, an annoyed glint within them. Kara is annoying, he corrected himself. Maybe not annoying, maybe frustrating...

Whatever.

"Ran's mind," he said simply, and assumed she was smart enough to get what he was saying.

Kealdra Arrikanez
If Kara had been a seer, she definitely wouldn’t have corrected Kaho. Kara was annoying, and proud of it, it kept her away from other wolves, and kept her happy. Bedamned what everyone else thought. Kara was definitely not a seer, and not liking how Kaho was not answering. Something must have been seriously wrong with him, based on how he looked. Nevermind, he wasn’t asking for her help, or even offering a true explanation.

She’d only seen him in dire straights once, and even then he’d had the strength to joke an ramble on. Her good mood quickly fowled. He had called Ran, at least indirectly, insane. Either that, or he’d pressed into her mind and tried to tinker with Ran, and that, well it made Kara’s blood boil. Any happiness she’d had for him vanished quickly. Ran was not crazy and Ran did not need anyone messing with her mind, at least according to Kara.

“Damn you, Kaho,” she hissed, automatically assuming he’d done the worst. “I hope you rot in hell.” With an angry growl she left him to bang his head. He wasn’t dead, and didn’t look dying, just miserable, and he should be. With that, she stalked off, hackles raised, or at least tried to. Maybe she’d go find Ran, but she doubted it, more likely she’d run into Phantom and then things would just get stupid.

Noyama
In a rare turn of events, Kaho growled, rather viciously. Not just that, he growled at Kara.

Oh, like hell! He could allow her to call him things that were true: Selfish, a whore even. But he would NOT be seen in a bad light because he actually tried to help somebody for once!

A bit unsteadily, he got to all fours, and called after her angrily. "Kara, you don't know what the hell you're talking about!" the seer barked, baring his teeth at any time his mouth was closed. "She's not right anymore! She's basically dead! Tahara left and she's not Ran anymore! She doesn't talk or move except when I push her and I have to force her to eat! If anything, you should be thanking me for trying to fix such a damn mess!"

Huh... That felt pretty good, actually.

"Oh, and you're a crazy b***h!" he added. While he was at it, might as well...

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara whipped around, her ears flat, teeth bared, tail tucket low between her legs. Her throat was rumbling with extreme ferocity, eyes so narrow blue could barely be picked out. Her head was low to the ground, almost in an omega state, but her body was poised to spring, not to bow down. Certainly never to Kaho.

It was true, she never knew what the hell she was talking about, but no one ever bothered to tell her. She was tired of all the secretive s**t! She made a circle around him, her muscles rippling with anger, she needed to rip something to pieces, get her anger out on something, but her anger couldn't hold.

Not after he started talking.

She didn't know how it happened, but she was sitting, right in front of Kaho, calm, her throat tight from what he said. It couldn't be true, Ran was strong. Kind, ever forgiving Ran, it just didn't seem right, but she'd never known Kaho to lie, and she didn't think he'd lie to her.

"I know I'm a crazy b***h," she whispered. Followed by an even less audible, "I'm sorry."

That was all she could manage, and she moved again, this time head low, and tail low out of respect. Kara was a wolf of swings, but only when prompted. Her mind was typically stable, except in these rare cases. Despite how she tried she couldn't remain angry at Kaho when he was right, and when she knew the truth about Ran, so she slunk away, not getting very far, before she simply lay down and looked outwards, not really knowing what to make of the situation.

Noyama
Any other time, Kaho would have backed down. There was no shame in it for him. Even if he had all four legs, he wouldn't be the best of the best--or even near it--when it came to mindless violence. So, usually, he willingly stepped down.

But not this time, oh no. He just flat out didn't care. Let them fight. Let her kill him. If that headache was going to come back he'd rather be dead, anyway!

So when she bared her teeth at him, snarled and even came close to him, his composure remained the same. But when she seemed to calm down, and so quickly at that, the sudden burst of courage lessened and then faded away completely.

The seer was left with the thought: What the HELL?, and he had absolutely nothing to think or so when it seemed she was bowing to him.

Oh, s**t. What was he suppose to do? He'd never upset anyone before, not really. Espesically not a female. Except maybe the freaky ones like Sally...

Okay, uh...

Ears low, he very, very hesitantly wobbled his way over to Kara. He'd been standing beside her for a few minutes before he even said anything. "Ran'll be fine," he assured her casually, in the careless way he was more accustomed to, and the way others associated him with. "And I think Phantom's rein will end soon."

That outta cheer her up!

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara didn't even flick an ear as he approached. She hardly heard a word he said, simply stared onwards. No, Ran wouldn't be okay, not now, and maybe she'd die, and certainly she wouldn't be herself. What good was living if there could be no joy? For a moment she considered concealing this information, but then she realized, stupidly, that Kaho was a seer, so he already knew. She shook her head, as if trying to chase her thoughts away.

This knowledge of Phantom no longer complicating things, didn't leave her anymore exalted. What should have overjoyed her sent more thoughts rushing through her head. What would take his place? She didn't doubt there might be worse things in the world, and good couldn't have its way for more than a few minutes, if you wanted to call it good. But what was good and evil? Shucks, it didn't matter.

"Don't worry about me. I'm just a crazy temperamental b***h, I'll get over it." She turned to look at him, his blood red eyes shocking her for a moment. Reminding her of death. "Just keep Ran safe." She knew she shouldn't have said it. It wasn't her choice, but yet she couldn't keep herself from saying it.

She was exhausted, she just wanted it all to end. Her eyes continued to stare outwards for a moment, but then she closed them, letting darkness fall over her senses. The last of her anger, sorrow, and remorse came outward in one breath, her body drifted backwards, leaning against something warm, and comforting. A feeling she hadn't known sense puphood. A feeling that made her drift into a dreamless sleep. . .

Noyama
How could he help but wince at the first thing she said? Of course, if questioned about it, he'd blame it on the cut on his head. Thankfully Kara wasn't a seer, and she couldn't confirm he felt slightly guilty for prodding her to think that way.

She was a crazy b***h, though. But hell, so was Raja, and she'd definately die of old age and nothing more. An accomplishment for a wolf living in this tangled web of relations.

Keep Ran safe, hm? He didn't bother pointing out he was already doing that. One because he knew she didn't really need to hear it, and two because he didn't want to admit he did so out of some sort of guilt concerning Tahara.

So he simply said, "Right.", and his eyes softened in an odd way. "And I will you, too," he said quietly, but it appeared as though she was already sleeping.

Kaho the no-longer-selfish, no-longer-loyal-to-Phantom seer sighed a heavy sigh and drew back, then turned and walked away.

There was a lot he had to do now...

Digging to Deep

Kealdra Arrikanez

"I never thought the day would come you'd stoop so low."

"Shutup Yisoka!" The words were harsh, deeply muffled beneath a growl. A growl to deep to fit the small wolf whose throat it had come from. Kiros, or rather Xan, was apparently in an irratable mood, pacing pack and forth, rocks crumbling beneath his feet. Soft furry brows furrowed in concentration, upper lip curled as though the air itself was thwarting against him. "I want her dead." The voice was almost urgent now, but it still held a harsh, varacious content. A malicious voice that would cause many to turn tail and run.

The other seemed to be watching with feigning interest, flexing a claw, and smiling ruefully as it ripped into the ground. He was the example of muslces, each one rippling even as he lay. His creme and red coat flashing vibrantly against the evenings rays. He should have been out hunting, but there was a proposition to be met.
And you want it clean." It wasn't a question, though it might have sounded like one to the untrained ears. Cougars were tricky that way. Assassins, every one of them, which is why Xan needed him.

"I need it clean!" The wolf was losing his patience now, feet slamming harder as he resumed his walking once more. Back and forth. Back and forth. The cougar found it a bit annoying. There was no testing the thick muscle of a cat, however. He'd seen them take down bears, he knew what they could do. A wolf, vulnerable, lunch meat.

"Why don't you simply do it yourself? Its not like you don't know the tricks of the trade."

The wolf seemed to be fighting against something then. As if an invisible force were trying to rip him out of his own bodily power. "Because he won't let me." The sound was choked, and broken. Even Yisoka's accute ears could hardly pick up the sound. He cocked an eyebrow, but asked no further questions.

The corpse was little more than a few hours old, but already it had began to stink. Crows perched in the twisted branched above, eyeing the corpse and the killer alike.

"Useless." The black wolf lay close to his victim, eyes narrowed as he watched the birds above. A waste of a day, not to mention a night spent planning. And for nothing that he didn't already know. There is plenty of time. Dakeryas reminded himself. Leu can wait. But how long would it be until she found out?

With the ease and grace of a born predator the wolf climbed to his feet. His paws made little sound on the wet ground as he left the small clearing to the birds. The male didn't spare a parting glance at the corpse; instead, he forgot it. It was, after all, in the past.

And nothing in the past should be remembered. Ever.

Mist wreathed the lower world, filtering the late afternoon light and casting the woods in a deep gloom. Dak wasn't put off; he continued forwards, aware of the river to his left and the rising of the slope to his right. Keep to the waterways, stay out of the mud. Moss as far as is possible.

Hide your path.

Be silent.

Like a spirit in the fading light, the wolf tracked his prey.

Kealdra Arrikanez
There was some serious muttering going along between the wolf and . . . well himself. A detestable grin marked the lion's face as he watched the other writhe in pain. Oh to be insane, he mocked the wolf in his mind, such an intolerable pain. The grin held for a time, before something stole it away. A presence.

The wolf seemed not to notice it, continue his writhing and fighting with himself. A sharp hiss brought the wolf back to his senses, aided by the digging of claws into his hind flesh. It was apparent Xan fought the urge to yelp, or maybe it was Kiros? Yisoka had little care which ego he was smashing down upon, he wanted silnece. Quickly he got it, all that could be discerned was the wind in the trees.

Kiros could smell nothing. His worried eyes swtiched about the place, for once not having to fight. He couldn't believe they were here, talking to this thing. Asking it to do. .. He let the thought slip from his mind. He had tried to stop Xan, tried, and failed. Just as he had failed before. What was done, was done. Now he scanned restlessly for the presence that the other obivously had encountered. When the cats saw something, it was there. They saw everything. Damnable beasts. Yet those thoughts were Xan's, not his own. They were becoming so mixed of late Kiros could hardly tell the difference sometimes. There was still that one distinction, though, the one thing that kept him apart from the other.

"I hear something."

The cougars eyes were scanning, scanning, searching, not finding. Time etched by as a leaf falls slowly from the heavens. Finally, his patience was rewarded. The pitter patter of feet became more prominent, almost over-ridden by the sound of rushing water. Well, well. mused the assassin. What have we here?"

Ronove
What was it that Leu had said? Watch for puppies? Dak sneered. He knew his target; she wouldn't have brats with the alpha of the largest pack around, much less a mangy male in packlands she didn't know. And he certainly didn't know who would mate with a b***h like her.

But he'd keep his eyes open anyways. The old man demanded a trade, a substitute for the one he'd lost. Tsst. Not that he ever mourned her. But a deal was a deal, after all.

And it wasn't his job to question the terms.

With a start the wolf paused, nose to the air and ears pricked. An instinctive growl rose in his throat but he swallowed it. Ahead the mist was lighter; there was a clearing. And something else was there. Muffled voices echoed strangely through the dank forest, then cut off abruptly.

Whoever was there knew he was out here. All advantage was lost; with a mental shrug the black trotted forwards, no longer attempting to hide his presence.

He wasn't surpised to see the wolf. It was only a matter of time before he stumbled onto someone else's territory. The cougar, however... he'd delt with their kind before and hadn't been impressed. They lacked finesse. And the only wolves who dealt with them were killers themselves...

Dak eyed the blue-brown male, making a note not to underestimate him.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Pumas will do as they will do. Much like siamese cats, in that aspect, though their temperaments were far from as docile. That, and their vocal chords far more trained. So naturally, the cougar said nothing at the approach of the other, a wide grin spreading across his maw. Wolves were always fun to toy with. Their minds were so simple, so easily confused. One simple push and they were done for. Couldn't even climb trees to safety. A pathetic race, if he did say so himself. One would wonder how he was ever muddled in their affairs.

Kiros, on the other hand, was not so at ease. His sharp eyes were darting to and fro, from assasin [sp?] to newcomer. There was no way of knowing which to trust, he didn't think he could either. A soft lump was forming in his throat, refusing to be swallowed. Thinking of little else he chanced a tail wag, body very submissive to the other. It was Kiros' way. In the back of his mind Xan was complaining.

Who the hell is that!?
Dunno.
Ask you ******** style="color: orange">"Pardon me, sir, but what's your name?"

Corny has hell.
You seem to like that word.
Hell hell hell hell. HELL!!

Mavis wandered around, his tail and head held down low. He had once again escaped the watchful eyes of his father, Flit. Once again, his father, after catching him for what seemed like the hundredth time, Flit had no idea about his other half-his demonic side. He had no clue that his mother had one, too. He had given up his search for her and was going on a hunt to get rid of his demonic side-Dämon.

As he made his way around a tall tree, he caught the scent of two wolves and a wild cat no more than a mile away from his current location. He canted his head to one side when a taunting voice arose in his mind. 'Where is little Mavis going?' Mavis bared his fangs slightly and growled deep in his throat. "No where you want to go," he snarled. 'Touchy, touchy. Father will get mad if you wander too far away again,' said the voice, a hint of madness lingering after it had faded away. Mavis shook his head and backed up a few inches.

"Mavis is old enough to be without father," he aruged to the voice. "Dämon needs to mind his own business." Dämon chuckled slightly, but said nothing more. Mavis turned around and hit his forehead on the trunk of the tree, hoping it might make the voice vanish from his thoughts. A dark chuckle echoed through his mind as Dämon vanished to a dark corner of it. Shaking slightly and wincing from the throbbing wound upon his head, he lowered his body close to the ground and turned his attention back to the two wolves and cougar that was less than a mile away from him.

Ronove
Well, this was unexpected.

Dakeyras stood still, for the moment ignoring the second wolf and focusing on the Puma. The large cat sat idly, a wide grin crossing his feline features. The wolf narrowed his eyes and brushed aside a shiver of unease. They were annoying, canny, and certainly deadly, but Puma's didn't have to be feared. Only watched.

Sudden movement from his left brought his attention to the oddly-marked male. The wolf seemed to be... submitting? Strange. Still, he wasn't about to discount this one. Dak took in the wagging tail and flattened body, noting the strong muscle build beneath the fur. He seemed healthy enough, certainly not as dismal as an omega...

But what was this wolf doing with the cat?

With a shake of his head, Dak began to move forwards again. It wasn't his buisness. He had a debt to settle and a life to end. That was all. The black ignored the male's question.

"I would be careful if I were you, boy." Eyes still on the puma, Dak spoke loud enough for both to hear. "Only use these -" he nodded towards the cat " - ...tools... when you have nothing to lose. They're liable to fail."

He knew that well enough.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Boy!? BOY!!!? That's what he said, yes. The nerve. I should rip out his throat now, but his blood isn't worth spilling.

None the less, a voice that was not initiated by curious clamoured out from the strange colored's throat. It came in the form of a growl, harsh and demeanering. It was apparent, despite Kiros' 'control' that Xan could still easily voice himself when angry. Depsite that, the wolf was warning Kiros/Xan in things he'd had far to much practice in. Kiros found his fur bristling, anger welling up inside him, teeth flicking in and out of baring. When words were spoken, they weren't of Kiros' mind.

"It's not me I'm worried about, boy," Xan's voice hissed. Kiros felt his fur rise higher, tail tucked low under him, his body wasn't submissing as much as he'd liked. This would not be a good situation.

The cougar, too, heard all that was said; though the smile never vanished. He noted how the wolf's eyes never strayed from his coat, and found this all the more amusing. How quickly could he dissapear and leave this one to tremor in his boots, always watching. The cougar could track him, keeping the other wolf awake, fur bristling, always worried. Exhaust him to his death. There was more than one way to kill a canid. Yet he did not give any notion that he had heard the black's degrading statement at all. In fact, his grin only seemed to broaden as he circled the wolf, flexing his claws in and out of the cracking dirt beneath. He spoke only a few words.

"Failure is a word spoken only by those that wish their death." It was only a slight acknowledgement that he had heard the other, even if the sentence hadn't been directed at him. It wasn't said harshly, or even in defense. Simply a matter of fact given with the tone of advice among friends.

Ronove
He hesitated, and for the first time truly focused on the male wolf. So that was it... he was silent for a moment, lifting his shoulders in a slight shrug. "No offense ment, lad." Dak's voice was amiable enough, if slightly cold. "I was simply offering advice. It's yours to take or leave."

He noted the bared teeth and raised hackles with a wry grin. "So settle down."

So easy to rile up, these youths.

However, the puma... he was a different story all together. He was the greater threat; those claws weren't just for show. More than once Dak had seen the work of Leu's hired killers, and he wasn't eager to join their ranks. Not quite yet.

"Failure?" He shrugged again and sat back on his haunches, faking ease. But his muscles were tense, ready. "I only speak from experience." Blue eyes narrowed, but he kept his ears relaxed and tail straight. "Perhaps you would prove me wrong?"

Muscles taunt, eyes alert. A small part of him wondered what the hell he was doing.

dbz2004

The orange-marked half-grown wolf canted his head as he heard the voices argue at one another. He narrowed his violet-hued eyes as he carefully started to head towards them again, but once again his other side starting to creep up again. Annoyed by Dämon's persistant actions, he forcefully put up a wall between his conscience and Dämon's.

'There, that might hold him back for a little longer,' he thought to himself, half-hoping that he might be right about it. Sighing, he trotted the mere one mile gap between him, the two wolves, and the cougar. At once he saw the two wolves and wild cat on opposite sides of a small clearing. Not wanting to intrude, he fell back to a save distance away from them and waited for them to acknoledge his presence.

Kealdra Arrikanez
He recognized the other wolf immediately. Kiros was the first to notice, and of course, the only one to know who exactly the other was. He knew, because he was in charge of this one's brother. Raised it, he had, since pupdom, or rather Xan had done most of the raising, but he had been there none the less. The scent, body posture, everything, but especially the eyes. Those purple cirlces of death and foreboding. Proving insanity on first sight. No good could come from eyes that dark, that vibrant and mislead. Perhaps there wasn't the same kind of insanity that Kiros felt, this skizophrenia, but it was there, and it was recognized.

Even the cougar, in all his skills, failed to realize the presence of the other. Like always, the other wolf alerted him, Yisoka wasn't left in the dark for long. His smile vanished, eyes flicking towards the place of interest. It took him several moments, but at last he located it. His sense of smell wasn't as good as the wolf's, and he hadn't been watching. Not to mention it was overridden by something else. Something far more pungent. . .

He risked a speach, even in the awarness that the other presence might not be so friendly. With three wolves hanging about, even the cougar began to feel the hair on his back flutter in wary.

"You smell despicable," he hissed at the black wolf, wrinkling his nose, tail twitching irritably. Yet his eyes never moved from that place of alarm. Living life this long gave him a contrite sense of when things could get very wrong, very fast. This was one of those times. Even cougars feared. All sane animals feared.

It might have been the situation, or something else, but the cougar did not answer the others question. He merely went on staring into the distance, watching, muscles flexing, though trained ears rested on the two wolves to the left and right. Perhaps it was fear that stopped him, or maybe he chose to chose this wolf wrong in another way entirely. Cougar's were patient creatures. They'd get their way, even if it took half their lifetime, but they'd surely get their way.

Ronove
The cougar's irritation and sudden change in manner alerted him to the presence of the second wolf, but it was his comment that caught Dak's interest. A ghost of a smile pulled at the corners of his mouth and he shrugged. "I'm sure you're familiar with it."

He watched from the corner of his eye as the male next to him stiffened, eyes fixed on the young blue male. It was obvious that the grey-blue wolf knew this newcomer, more than knew him. Dak, on the other hand, was accutely aware of his lack of knowledge. Both the cougar and the two wolves were strangers; he had no idea how they would act. Not a good thing.

He should leave... he should get on with his buisness. But... it was dangerous to travel alone in unfamiliar woods. Especially those swarming with unfamiliar wolves.

He turned to the cougar and the older male, ignoring the youth at the edge of the clearing. His voice was soft, eyes intent.

"I have a proposition for you..."

dbz2004

Mavis shuddered slightly as he sensed that one wolf had his gaze set on him. He slowly gazed at the black wolf, who had his attention on the cougar, and then at the other wolf, whom he recoginized faintly. He canted his head to one side and flicked his tail slightly as he lokced his gaze onto Kiros.

He knew the grown wolf from somewhere, but he didn't know where. Slowly, he began to inch his way towards him, but then stopped after taking a mere six-inches when he heard the black wolf say something to the wild cat.

'A proposition with a wild cat?' he asked himself silently. 'What's that going to do? I thought that their kin and our kin were natural enemies. Why is that loner doing with the wild cat in the first place?' He sighed slightly as he canted his head to one side, utterly confused at the whole scene in front of him. He didn't even notice that the black loner didn't acknowledge his presense. He wasn't used to being acknowledged by anyone most of the time.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kiros remained in control, for the time. Eyes watching as the adolescent crept nearer. It was obvious that there would be no getting out of introductions. Something in the wolf’s eyes said I know you, too. If he walked away now, he’d be testing with fate, not to mention the hormones of youth. One never crossed a teen, they’d come back to bite you later. So much anger, in such little things; he could never understand it. Kiros’ ears flicked as well when he heard the other wolf speaking. Although he seemed almost in a daze; hardly hearing the other, if at all. Kiros wasn’t sure how to react at first, but at last the faint hint of words toyed at his lips. Xan was silent.

“You’re Beere’s sibling aren’t you?” It was hardly audible, especially in the stirring of the wind. Then again, near everything that the lone said was hard of hearing, unless Xan happened to be speaking it. The male shifted his weight nervously, his tail low and tucked, though managing slight movement. He couldn’t hide it, the cougar frightened him. With its silence and it’s staring; always staring. It could drive a wolf mad.

You already are mad! The voice seemed to launch him back into awareness, if only temporarily. It doesn’t seem so. He tried desperately to back himself up in this mudane situation. Luckily for him the local bickering of his mind couldn’t be seen or noticed except to the trained eye, or seer. Well we are, so get used to it. Little did Xan know just how used to it Kiros was.

The cougar caught the other wolf’s eye, a grin passing over his maw. “I never stay around a corpse that long.” There was another curling at the corners of his mouth, but the broad smile soon fanished, to be replaced by the cold golden eyes of the wild cat. He flicked them away from the black, his mind going over something devilishly. The next words spoken to him made him nearly shudder with alarm. He knew Xan was no seer.

“Don’t lay a practiced claw on him.”

So much for that thought, then. There were others, even if the younger meat was especially sweet and tender. His eyes turned finally from his ‘victim’ and back towards the hindrance to his left. Wolves. They were a horrendous race, not worthy of life. Always a plague on one soul. Always offering,

“preposition. . .”

Oh he’d heard it alright. Loud and clear, and he didn’t want to hear it. It was bad enough that Kiros had convinced him of the malevolent task of murder, on a race not even fit for his art; but now this new wolf, hardly more than a flash in the cougar’s memory, he was trying to etch out services. Even after an insult. Yet mountain lions, though they have sharp pride, have even larger curiousities. The wolf would die soon enough, he could aid it later, no one would care. It was his fault for crossing a cougar.

“Speak.”

Ronove
"Circumstances required that I stay close by." Dak grinned. "The corpse was just a nuisance that had to be delt with."

The grin faded as the wolf's thoughts turned to business. He grimaced inwardly, hating the deal he was about to propose. Hating the cat, the circumstances, the job that was forcing him into this. Stupid. You spoke too quickly before... Ah well.

"We are both invested in the same... trade." Dakeyras paused, collecting his thoughts. His expression remained impassive, hooded eyes fixed on the tawny beast. "So we both understand how difficult it can be to find an employer. It is simple to kill for mere vengence... but it is something all together to get payment for it."

The black shifted, flicking his tail in irritation. "I am not here by choice. I was commissioned. But I'm not his preferred species." Tss. I've never agreed with Leu's choice in hired hands. Dak grimaced. "Your kind are."

Dak had worked with lions before. Unpredictable, uncaring, and dangerous. This one wouldn't be any different; he'd have to watch his back.

"In exchange for information, I can get you a deal with my employer. It will keep you through the winter." He hated traveling in unknown land. Had he known of Leu's plans, he could have come more prepared. He wouldn't need to pull information from a cocky lion... as it was, well, a deal was a deal.

He grinned and pricked his ears. "After all, I know better than most that wolves can be difficult prey."

dbz2004

"Beere?" he asked in a quiet voice. He knew that would get his other side's attention big time, but he didn't bother blocking him this time. Maybe Dämon might have something good to say to him. He could feel the his presense starting to stir, yet he still didn't attempt to block him...yet.

Slowly, Dämon came forth and glanced at Kiros through Mavis' eyes. 'That...thing said Beere. Did he mean your brother?' asked the other half. Mavis nodded mentally at him and sighed. 'Yes, he did mention brother's name. But why?' Dämon growled at Mavis. 'ask him you idiot!' he screamed at the innocent Mavis.

Mavis instinctively winced at Dämon's words and he turned his gaze down towards the ground. He didn't look at the other wolf's posture. Right now he felt like he wanted to escape Dämon and his harsh words. 'He isn't very nice today,' he thought to himself as he slowly lowered his body down to the ground. He gazed up at the loner and pinned his ears back against his skull. "You mentioned brother's name. Why?" he asked Kiros curiously with a hint of hurt in his voice.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kiros remained silent for many a moment. His two colored eyes watching and waiting for the young pup to speak his words. It appeared that the adolescent was struggling with something, something within his mind. Kiros cocked an eyebrow, or maybe it was Xan, who could tell. It was becoming so hard now. Only that voice reminded him they were still separate things as it were. His breathing became unbalanced, irregular. Fighting to keep his own mind in place, and not confuse it with Xan’s angering thoughts. Why doesn’t he speak? Scared perhaps. Reasonable. They continued to watch for a time, tails flicking as one, body breathing in unison, if only for a moments time. The adolescent seemed to be struggling with himself. Odd, he never had that much of a subconscious, he just did things. It was Xan who had to think things through. At last the thing spoke some words. Kiros wasn’t sure if he should take it as a relief, or a punishment.

Xan was not happy with the current situation. Damn pups, always asking questions. There came a mental growl, that only Kiros could hear, but it was still there. None the less, he managed to maintain his composure on the outside, at least to some extent.

“Look here, you meddling whelp,” Xan snapped, the change in voices already apparent. “I suggest you hold you’re tongue unless you want a firm lashing.” One could have thought he meant to do it himself, but Xan wanted to watch. He’d send the cougar to do his work. What’s one more afterall? “So I ask again. Are you are are you not Beere’s brother!? And I expect an answer.” He set his cold gaze on the pup, golden eye flashing vibrantly in the light.

The cougar would have seemed to overhear the conversation, for a bark of laughter came to his lips. It was nothing pretty, a shrill screech, followed by a growl; enough to even make Xan shudder in his fur. Yisoka knew the laugh of the cougar was a horrific thing to hear, and even he couldn’t help but mock himself for such a sound. However, his laughter had not been inspired by the protests of Xan to the adolescent. No, it had been at this proposition the other wolf had offered him.

“Let me make this very clear to you.” Yisoka began, rounding on the other. “I do not do spy work for any beast.” The laughter had vanished now. Nothing but cold hatred existed in this cat’s eyes. “As for your leader. . . Well I don’t think you’ll have to worry about him for much longer.” Even cougar’s that worked the business survived little time. He didn’t trade favors for food. He traded favors for favors. This wolf had nerves for flat out asking, he wouldn’t have it. The only reason he work for – no with Xan. . .

“The question is, what are you willing to offer me?”

He never understood the whole nobility thing among wolves. If you could convince someone of something, then come back on it, well then, that was their problem for trusting you. Any hopeless fool who really trusted another did not deserve services of any kind, except maybe those of death. In any case, this wolf must have had a good reason for loyalty, he didn’t seem the type the would instinctively protect another.

Ronove
"I'm not worried about my leader." Dak lifted his lip at the thought. He'd be glad if the fool died. He just couldn't take care of it... yet.

"You misunderstand." The black sneered. "I wouldn't trust you with spy work. I do my own." He looked the cougar in the eyes, undaunted by the cold anger he found there. In this profession, disdain and hate were a fact of life. "You live in this area; you know wolves. After all, this boy-" he nodded towards Kiros "-knew where to hire you."

"I just need what you should already know; packlands, leaders, the like." Perhaps then he could avoid another disasterous encounter like this one. And fulfill the second half of his commission. "Of course, that is assuming you do have the information."

"And in return..."

The wolf paused, considering his options.

"... in return, I offer you the lives of a litter of pups."

dbz2004

Mavis canted his head to one side and stared at Kiros with a blank stare on his face. Why wouldn't the loner answer his question. He thought that it was a rather easy question to answer, but that was Mavis. He could answer questions that he thought were easy, yet many other wolves, like his father, found them to be quite difficult to answer.

Sighing, he thumped his tail on his hindquarters and turned his gaze down towards the ground. 'Got bored of the loner so fast?' taunted Dämon. Mavis shook his head mentally and started to shove his other half to the darkest corner of his mind, but Dämon fought back. 'Not this time, little one,' he told Mavis bitterly. 'I've been shoved back for far too long. I think it is my turn to take over for a while.' Mavis started to protest when he found himself blocked out of his own body by Dämon and shoved to the back of his mind. Dämon smirked slightly and looked at Kiros through Mavis' eyes. 'Much better,' he thought to himself smuggly. Slowly, he let a smirk come across his maw as he scatched at the ground with one paw. "You never answered my question," came a smug comment from Dämon's lips. "How do you know my brother?"

Kealdra Arrikanez
Oh no, he wouldn’t call it loyalty. It was something else, but whatever it was, it prevented Yisoka from speaking a word about the packs nearby. He found it rather funny that the wolf would just waltz right in here, and start asking. Yisoka wasn’t the typical type of cougar; he did have that small inclination to keep others secrets safe. Even if it was only to watch the other writhe to get at what he knew.

“No, my little pet,” the cougar cooed. “It is you who misunderstands. This boy you speak of is not whom you think. So I suggest you become a seer very quickly, before matters turn to crimson.”

Had it been anyone else the cougar would have leapt at the opportunity. However, this wolf seemed desperate, he was not. As enticing as a litter of pups was, he knew the offer was to good to be true, on the first note. On the second, pups had mothers. Any father that would dish out his own offspring was a sick man indeed. He’d refused, now he’d watch this wolf. If he proved truly crazy, Yisoka gave himself personal permission to end the pathetic creature’s life. With that stored away in a mind made of mess, the cougar found his work done. He called out to the wolf that was now fuming with anger. So easy to make wolves dance with fire, didn’t even need to try.

“It will be done, old friend.” So he left, as cougars do, with a flick of a tail – vanished.

Xan was sitting now, tail flicking more irritably than other. He couldn’t get angry, he needed this one. There was no turning back from it now. This wolf was truly mad, testing him like this, his darker half. If he hadn’t half a sense he would have wripped the adolescent’s throat out. Despite this, there was opportunity for control here.

“You’ve answered the question, if only indirectly,” Xan hissed, lip curled up in a snarl. “So now I shall answer yours.” He seemed to shift, working his way to a stand, to circle the other. It would seem as though he was going to tell a long drawling story. “I am in custody of that little yelp of yours you call a brother.” He eyes were fastened hard on the small one, despite the fact that Kiros wasn’t tall himself. Let’s see how the prudent b*****d took that!

Ronove
The black's expression grew colder, eyes hard. Inwardly he fumed; not so much from the refusal of the proposition as from the continued waste of time.

"Pet? Kiddo, you've --" Dak broke off with a curse. The lion was already gone; faded into the brush. Damn flea-ridden pretentious b*****d! For a moment he let his anger rise, a snarl flitting across his muzzle. Then, with a sigh, he forced himself to relax.

Anger was useless now. Hot-headed actions would only lead to unfortunate ends. Dak twitched his tail in irritation and eyed the other two wolves across the clearing. Wolves wouldn't tell him anything.

He'd have to gain knowledge the hard way.

For now though he would wait and watch these two; perhaps something could be learned. He certainly didn't have too many other leads. How irritating.

dbz2004

Dämon watched the other male wolf carefully as Kiros/Xan slowly began to circle him. 'So, it seems that this wolf is trying to test me. Well, two can play that game,' he thought to himself smugly. Slowly, he began to turn his body in a tight, small circle, trying to keep his gaze on the other wolf in front of him.

"And how did you come to be in custody if my dear brother?" he asked the loner in a soft tone of voice, letting each word slowly drag out, making the sentence seem longer than it really was. Dämon really loved to torture other wolves, Mavis more than anyone else. It was Dämon who also loved to torture their poor father to death. 'I don't think you should have done that,' whimpered Mavis from the dark corner of the mind. 'Who cares what I do or don't do. You aren't in charge of this body anymore-I am. And right now, I am in the mood to stir up a little trouble...but not with this wolf. He is taking care of our sweet brother, so I can't harm a hair on his body. Mavis sighed as he curled up in the dark corner of his mind, allowing Dämon full control of his body.

Kealdra Arrikanez
With the cougar gone, Kiros felt much less safe, not because of the adolescent, but because of the black, watching them. He managed to get Xan to glance over at the other, once or twice. Just to make sure he was up to something, he assured his other half. Xan had pointed out he was being a coward, and not to worry. The wolf probably couldn’t harm a fly, and certainly didn’t have the guts to attack them straight out. If they died it would be quick, by cowardice, they wouldn’t feel it anyway. It hadn’t been comforting. For now, however, Kiros had to sit and be intent to stare at this other youth, who was asking questions of an already thoroughly irritated Xan. Oh how he’d hate to be the next wolf Xan crossed paths with after this one.

The pauses, the change in nature, so quickly, it all fit. The adolescent in front of him was surely mad. The thought made even a perturbed killer laugh, his bark tore through the air as he stopped and watched the other wolf. Stopped at his back, just so the other would have to crane his neck. Maybe it would get sore and fall of, or Xan could simply just remove it for him. Either way.

“That is for me to know,” he began, then his tongue stopped and he turned away from the young pup. He never finished his sentence.

“I’ve got you now you murderous b*****d!” Her muscles rippled as her body launched at the wolf, jaws opening wide to get a hunk of his fur. Oh how the creature struggled, nipping wildly at her, but she was going to win! He was healthy, and she was getting him. How he’d pay for ever laying a hand on Rechelle. She had a future to build, and this one wasn’t getting in the way this time.

Her throat opened wide and she snapped down, narrowly missing his throat as he rolled. She was taller, far taller, but he had the strength and agility of a small cat. Cursed creatures, cats, assasins, every one of them. Not to mention, he smelled kind of like cat. . .
The thought was shoved back into her mind as the male scampered to get away, but not before he took a wild move at her leg and struck home. A deep rumble echoed from her throat as the male made a sound much like a hyena and took off in some wild direction. Kara tore off after him, her running skills easily allowing her to keep up with the other. All it would take was one dive.

SMACK!

One needed to watch where one was going in high persuit. Concusion rang through her mind, for a moment she was dazed. Her left side touched the dirt, and as she looked up, she found what she had hit. A black and red splattered wolf. Her eyes scanned the area, Kiros was watching, eyes hard set on her. The element of surprise was gone, there would be no killing him just now. Kara glowered at the black, cursing him inwardly for not moving. Grumbling she got up, apologized lightly to the black, then sprinted off into the woods on some other adventure, but not before exclaiming, “I’ll get you yet you dirty whore!”

dbz2004

Dämon frowned at the other wolf's silence. He hated silence, unlike Mavis. The calmer side of the teen wolf could handle it, but the darker and crazier side of the wolf could not. Dämon would often find himself humming an off-key tune, which drove Mavis crazy. They both, however, hated to be in the company of more than 3 wolves at a time. That was the only thing they agreed on.

Dämon sighed loudly when Xan/Kiros finally spoke, but it was only half a sentence. The other half was cut off by another wolf. He quickly spun around to see a femme run into the black loner. He canted his head to one side at the comment the femme made as she ran off into the woods. Sighing, he shook his head and turned his attention back to Xan. "Let me guess...it's for you to know and for me to find out, right?" he chuckled deep in his throat, a sound that often made Mavis squirm. "Mother had something to do with it, huh? Her condition...is getting worse, isn't it? I bet it has something to do with...her other side, perhaps? The darker side of her getting control of her many times a day. Her mind going darker and darked with each passing day," Dämon said in a low tone of voice as he carefully took tiny steps towards Xan.

Dämon stopped after taking only three feet of steps and stared at Xan, a hint of madness in his eyes. "Some say that she is going mad with illness-others think that she should be put to sleep. I think that she is perfect for me. She birthed two sons, one to be crazy like her and the other...well, you know all about him. The quiet ones are always the ones to go mad first. It's a fact. He closed his violet-hued eyes for a few moments before opening them up and gazing at the sky for a few moments. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but then he changed his mind and then closed his mouth slowly. Meanwhile in the dark corner of the adolescent's mind, Mavis began to quiver with fear.

Digging to Deep Continued

Ronove
Dakeyras was just contemplating leaving when the red plunged out of the woods, streaking for the male across the clearing. He froze, ears pricked, feeling faintly annoyed that he hadn't heard her arrive earlier.

The mild suprise quickly became bewildered shock as the female, in a headlong sprint, rammed into his side. Dak staggered with the impact, a strangled grunt escaping as the air was knocked out of him.

Oh, that was just what he needed. Damn woods, damn wolves, damn cat! In the split seconds after the collision his temper flared and he lost control; teeth flashed as he bore down on the lanky female.

"What the hell do you think you--"

The black broke off swearing and stood, hackles up and teeth bared, watching as the female took off into the woods again. DAMN IT! For a moment he stood still, irritated at both his outburst and the whole situation. This was not going as planned. At all. In fact, it was going just as sour as possible.

With some effort the black managed to calm down. It was in the past; nothing in the past was worth the effort. But the future... it was in dire need of sorting out, and Dak wasn't in the mood to coddle and pet for information.

He didn't hesitate; instead he strode towards the youth and the blue, a soft growl rumbling in his throat. He kept his gaze on the older one, eyes narrowed.

"Stay away from me, and I'll stay away from you." He warned, eyeing Xan. His voice was pitched so that only the older male could hear. "You step in and you'll be sorry." His voice was cold, ears pricked and tail high. Without another glance he spun and faced the youth.

"You, kid." Dak stopped in front of the other. "Give me the information I want and I won't kill you." Something in the black's eyes made the threat more real; there was no emotion, no anger in the words. Just an erie chill, and the bland sound of truth.

"From what I've overheard, your friend here will be happy to see you bleed." A low growl issued from his throat. "So don't count on him for help."

Kealdra Arrikanez
Oh he’d heard everything the both of them said. There was no way on earth that Xan was letting this newcomer steal information from his prize, no way he’d let this demon give it either. It might be false, simply covered in the voice of that crazy psycho of a brother. He wouldn’t have it. This was the end. He barged by the black, not caring if the other tore at his kind. This had gone to far.

Xan had had enough, his fur stood on end, his eyes raised to meet the adolescent’s; this demon inside the other wolf. This young child had deserted his brother, just as had the father. He could make his own relations to this sibling of his, but not through him. Xan’s voice came out raspy, utter seriousness in his eyes.

“Boy, do not preach to me about the mad. You do not understand it.”

A growl came from deep within his throat, and he lunged, efforts aimed at pinning the poor adolescent beneath his sharpened claws. They had grown long, so very long, worn into points by the dirt of travel. “Let him come back, I will not have you in my presence,” he hissed, referring to the demon to allow poor Mavis to have a head once more. Insanity was a touchy thing, speaking of it drove the mad even madder.

Kiros had never felt this hatred before. Yet it fumed up inside him, Xan’s hatred. The assassin’s true and unbreakable despise for the thing that was before him. The young wolf took it in, nursed it. He didn’t like the feeling, but it felt so right. Like something long since missing. It was Xan’s thought, but it was also his own, and he could feel himself, their whole body as one. It wasn’t just Xan that had lunged for the other with the thought of pinning him down, it was Kiros. They had both moved at as a whole. Maybe Kiros knew no blood would be spilled and that was why he, too, had acted, or maybe it was something much more. That’s when he found himself speaking the words. . . words full of malice that he’d never known before.

“If you say anything that threatens our presence to this wolf, you are dead.” With that, Kiros himself pressed down on the pup, or what would be the pup if he had indeed met his mark.

dbz2004

Dämon was shocked at the loner's response to his little speech. It left him quite speechless and he turned around slightly before hearing Xan say something about letting him come back. He growled deep in his throat as he quickly spun around to face Xan/Kiros again. He narrowed his eyes and was about to lunge at the loner when all of a sudden he saw a flash of fur and then found his body pinned down to the ground by the other male. He tried to fight his way out of Xan's grasp, but his words made him stop. "Let that pathetic..." he started, but then felt Mavis'presence creep up.

Dämon started to struggle, but then he heard another voice emerge from the loner. He snapped his head up to see the loner on top of him and he growled. "What are you talking about?!" Dämon yelled at Kiros/Xan. It was then that he felt Mavis wrap his consience around Dämon's and the dark part of Mavis suddenly found himself barred in the back of his mind again. Mavis had won control of his body again. Sighing, the adolescent relaxed his body and let the madness fade from his violet-hued eyes. "Fear not, for I have returned," Mavis said in a low, hoarse voice.

Ronove
...there was something strange going on here.

The black was more than suprised when the blue loner pounced; he'd misjudged the situation. Nothing the blue had said indicated any loyalty to this pup. But even more confusing was the conversation between the youth and the male. Dak didn't understand what was going on, and he didn't like it.

His red-tipped tail flicked in nervous irritation and he hesitated to act, uncertain how the two would respond. Perhaps it was best just to leave these wolves to their plotin-- ... wait.

What did he say? Dak's ears pressed firmly against his skull, a shiver raising the hair from his neck to his tail. I have returned? What the HELL does that mean? Unfortunantly, he had the sinking feeling he knew what this was...

The loner felt a growl rising and swallowed it, regarding the two wolves on the ground much as he might have a viper. He spoke bluntly, his soft voice clear.

"Are you two the only ones then, or has this whole land gone mad?" How interesting...

Kealdra Arrikanez
Xan had a habit of making things worse. This case was no exception, however, he kept all those hazardous thoughts on the inside of his head this time. Letting out a sigh he released the young pup. There would have been a time he would have called the other wolf fib, but not now. He knew that change in voice far to well to now, and so he believed this adolescent, as best one could. With that matter taken care of he stepped back, able to asses the scenery for what it was. Even he was tired for such a day. A brutal attack on him from the red, and now this: A consistent battering of questions against his skull.

“Make sure it stays that way,” came the half hearted whisper from the back of his throat. He loved Kiros, loved the body it housed, despite the annoyance of having the other’s presence. Besides that Kiros truly believed it was Xan who had enchroached upon him at an early age. Kiros had never lied to him before; they weren’t wolves of such nature. Treachery and trickery, perhaps, but never were they wolves of false truths. He couldn’t see this demon within Mavis having any such of a kind heart towards his other half. If that was indeed what it truly was. Kiros knew he was mad, as Xan knew it, but some did not know it and were, and others thought they were and were in the wrong. He only hoped Mavis could keep control to keep himself safe.

With that problem solved, it was time for Kiros to make his speech. It felt weird, sharing this body for once, instead of fighting for power. He could feel Xan breathing with him, and for several a time he couldn’t distinguish the difference. However the feeling slowly receded till Xan become a point in his mind. Just as it should have been. It worried the lone when he could not know his other half was back there, ready to spring forward if the correct sentence initiated him.

“We’re all mad to some extent,” he mumbled to the other wolf, obviously being of no help at all. For a moment his mind told him to stay, but that spot in his mind, his wiser half urged him onwards. It was time to get away from all this. They’d stayed long enough and already this newcomer knew to much about them. The situation with the brother could only get once. Save your hide and leave. So Kiros did just that, trotting away without another word or a glance back, hoping that perhaps Mavis would leave as well, and the information so desired would be kept safe. Not that the adolescent could tell him much anyway. Maybe about Phib, but anyone that trifled with that alpha was as good as dead anyway. He would be, if it weren’t for Amelie, that much was sure.

dbz2004

Mavis sighed slightly as he felt the weight of the other wolf lift off of him after he said that it was Mavis who was now taking control of his body. He slowly rolled over onto his side and stared at the loner, half-hearing Xan's words. He knew that he had little control over his other half, but that still didn't make Mavis back down from Dämon's protests of gaining control. He knew he would have to either live with the other wolf or fight for dominance of the body.

He shook his head slightly as he rose to all fours, unaware that xan had let Kiros take control now. He pricked his ears up at the murmured statement Kiros made and before he could say anything else he saw the loner walk away. Canting his head to one side, he watched the loner move away from him slowly. Flicking his tail, he decided to do the same and he swiftly departed, not wanting to be the black loner's next meal.

Damned Seers! >8[

Furekatsu Anjiru
Simple. It was all very simple. With so few objects in her way how had the thought not occured to her before? She should have drowned herself when she'd had the chance. Motherhood was the worst thing that had ever happened to her. Thank god she was terrible at it!

In disgust she'd stormed away from her shabby den and left her idiot cousin to watch the pups. Did it matter Malady was in the process of having a seizure? Not much. Malady dead would still be a better substitute than Meskeet.

Atleast she thought so.

But she had other problems to attend too. Escaping for a few moments gave her time to think. She had to hunt. But not for a little longer. She simply was not in a mood to eat. Lucky for the rodents present.

Game was harder to come by in this area. A den move would need to be made soon. While it was easy to survive off squirrels or rabbits, even mice, Meskeet generally prefered larger game. Other wolves would even be a nice treat.

As she stood in the river wet up to her elbows she watched the fish patiently. Naturally cautious they had first fled but were now slowly returning to the soft flowing water. She was eating fish, when she could have been eating Audi.

Bummer.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Whoever said that loner life sucked didn’t know freedom. Besides, things didn’t suck, they pushed and pulled. Everyone knew that right? Well, Kiros thought they did. Never mind that he was only moderately insane, to under exaggerate. As the saying went, he enjoyed every minute of it. Oh but if only that were true, for being pestered by a sharp voice every second wasn’t all it was cut out to be.

The river. Yes. I smell a rat. Probably Kara. That murderous b***h better not be hanging around in some bush. Funny. What? She calls you a murderous b*****d.

That got a laugh out of his other half. It was strange, switching these personalities, all in the back of his mind. It had all started as a voice, they’d talk out loud before, but not now. People had stared. It didn’t prevent the seers from knowing, well the smart ones. The stupid ones thought there was another seer somewhere around and it just couldn’t get out of his head. If only that were true, then he could convince Xan to kill himself. Things never worked out like that, though, so he was stuck being insane. Not that it was a bad thing; people left you alone when you were insane. Plus Xan absolutely despised Seers with every soul of his being perhaps why he didn’t lie. In any case, if they knew someone was a seer, they stayed clear. It wasn’t too hard to tell, seeing as seer’s liked to make themselves known right of the bat. Even if they didn’t they always slipped. Rather amusing Kiros always thought, even if his other half was repulsed. Soon his thoughts were interrupted again.

That’s a fine bit of womanflesh out there in the water. Probably Kara. They say all the hot ones are mad. I’m beginning to realize its true. You were supposed to be the smart one in the bunch. All in the mind, love, all in the mind.

It was true enough. With a shrug Kiros followed Xan’s wish and plunged into the water; his short figure hardly faring well against the high current. He and rivers never got along; figures he’d pick the deepest part to wade in. Still, Kiros wouldn’t be stopped from Xan’s target of interest. Always so damned curious, with all this traveling. It was enough to drive him sane!

Furekatsu Anjiru
(( *finds it interesting her posts are saying it's Sept 30th 6:28 am, when it says Sept 29th 10:28 pm just after she submits a post* o__O ))

Thoughts were like dust in the wind. Unintentionally scattered for all to hear. For seers anyway. But being able to pick them up and examine them gave the curious ones a fine warm feeling. They were unexpected surprises, and how much they varied from one individual to another was quite fascinating.

As the straying quirks of the blue and brown wolf journeyed out over the water Meskeet couldn't help but lap them up. And they seemed provoked enough to perk her interest. Raising her head she gazed back at the smaller figure of a wolf. Perhaps odder than his thoughts was the bag he carried around his neck. Where had he recieved such a thing?

"Well hello there stranger." She was in an odd mood after spending all her time with pups and Malady. It was about time she met someone new. Someone with problems that differed from her own.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Xan hated when things were particularily boring. He liked his life spicy, hence why he traveled so much. So when wolves started a conversation that didn’t begin with a topic of the weather, or a formal hello, he was rather glad. Nevermind they’d be about to rip your head from your sockets, they made for a good laugh. And Kiros wondered why he got in so much trouble?

Now Kiros, on the other hand, was having a bit of difficulty with the situation. Not only was he the one attempting to make it chest deep through the water, but here was a wolf he had to talk to. Sure, he could simply just let Xan take over, but apparently the wolf only wanted to come out when he deemed it necessary for him. Which, at this moment in time, was not good for his other half. So he stayed right put in that corner, itching away at Kiros’ patience. One day he’d break and scratch.

“Mmph,” he managed to sputter out, swallowing a mouthful of liquid as he did. Tripping in water was never the highlights of his day. Realizing he might look rather foolish he quickened his pace, sliding crystalline on either side of him. Finally it seemed as the water only lapped at his ankles, quite unthreateningly, and speech was comprehensible at this point.

“Stranger indeed. Care to fill me in?”

The only problem with you is no one ever understands you’re your saying! You want to talk I’m content to listen to failure.

Furekatsu Anjiru
"Not really." She stated flatly after having watched him attempt to move through the water. It had been a bit sad really. In a pathetic useless kill-me-now way.

He felt off and she could tell immediately that he was more interesting than he appeared. Prying every so subtly Meskeet had a notion to find out why. There seemed to be feelings for two instead of one. Peculiar.

"Aren't we clever?" She asked as it finally dawned on her. The first idea to bounce around her head was that of another seer present as she'd discovered one could inhabit the mind of another creature. But the longer she prodded the more obvious it became at the other ideas took root from the same body.

"Don't tell me. You're also a saint?" Eyes narrowing pleasantly she lowered her head and sized him up. She doubted his other half was entoxicatingly pleasant. Maybe he had a little zest.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kiros decided right then he didn’t like the wolf. Xan, however, was at least moderately intrigued, though he hated stuck up wolves. If they were better than you, they were better off dead. Then again most like that died at an early age, so he had nothing to worry about, so it would seem. Then there were the hopeless, like Kiros, so much like that one. . . what was her name. Ah yes, Amelie. A faint smile hinted at his lips, he hardly realized it had happened, Kiros must have slipped with him, letting his other side come through. Yet it didn’t quite feel that way. For a moment there had been no other side. . . odd.

He shook the thoughts away, eyes focused on the female ahead. She was one of little words, and harsh ones. This could prove interesting. Perhaps it was best if he swarmed the sensations at least for a little while. Besides, Kiros seemed grateful for the distraction. There was no use tainting an image right off the bat. It was clear this one liked those mischievous, deviant. If her life wasn’t on the line, well it just wasn’t worth talking to.

“Saint!?” he barked, clearly finding the question extremely comical. “Love, I’m no more a saint than a cougar’s mother.” Speaking of. . . “You don’t seem so sweet yourself.”

Furekatsu Anjiru
"Oh but I am." Her teeth flashed in a grin. Despite her general disregard for speach she had become quite bored pent up with her now fixed company. The presented so few challenges and her mind really did need the exercise.

"That's interesting though. A cougar's mother. So few use that analogy. You have personal experience with cougars I pressume?" Now why would that be she wondered absently and grinned, an expression she hardly ever used. Cougars were far from pleasant. Maybe he could entertain her for a while.

Trudging through the water she climbed onto the shore on the same side as the other wolf and carefully shook her legs so as to not spray him too much. You couldn't always be rude to everyone. Especially someone potentially interesting.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Xan flashed his own grin at her, keeping his body low in moderate submission. You couldn’t be to careful around females. They were testy creatures. One wrong move, word, or action, and you found your throat ten feet away from the rest of your body. Even Xan never messed to heavily with the opposite gender. He and Kiros learned that they held grudges for eternity. He opened his mouth to answer her, but someone else beat him to it.

“That is correct,” The voice was dark, and thick. It was apparent that even though feline, he was adept in speech. Kiros’ head turned to look at the creature, he recognized it immediately. Yisoka. The sight sent a shiver cursing through his fur. The lion was posed in a tree, tail flicking, gazing down at the two of them. Xan made quick work of the situation, darting to the shoreline with exquisite grace that Kiros did not posses. One could never be sure about the cats, even ones you worked with for most of your life.

Bearing one of those deadly smiles the cougar stretched out his claws, eyes scanning two potential meals. Yet he couldn’t eat Kiros, that would be a conflict of interest, so he simply brought himself to standing. Time was of essence for any feline. Any of it wasted was bad, besides the less time you used, the more impact you had on another. Which was why, instead of taking the long route down the tree, Yisoka simply leapt from his perch, landing with a thunk on the earth.

It hadn’t been the first time Xan had seen him, but still he felt even his own fur rising. He found his ears pinned, body much lower to the ground than he would have liked. Though he wasn’t being a coward, he was being smart. It was stupid for any wolf to mess with a cougar, especially one as well refined and muscled as this spy.

Furekatsu Anjiru
Meskeet was vaguely impressed. Which was something. Growing up with the pack she had she helf little fear for the antics of others. But even she had to admit this was amusing. Yes, she'd heard about cougars. Though until now she'd yet to actually encounter one herself.

"Can I help you?" It wasn't so much an offer as an inquiry. From what she could tell these animals were very interesting, and she held a small bit of delight in the back of her mind at finally being given the chance to see for herself. Watching him carefully her tail flicked in mild surprise at his arrival.

She could feel the fear the other wolf held for the cougar. Best not to be too obnoxious then.

Kealdra Arrikanez
The cougar flicked his gaze from Kiros to the other, paying special attention to the female. Cougar’s could read their prey better than their victims could read each other. He knew that stance, she held herself not highly, but as a player, with the world as her chess pieces. It was an intriguing thought, and it fit her right down the alley of the felines. That, however, was of no importance to him at this time, so the knowledge was simply stored away in that large feline mind of his. He noted that Kiros was out, yet at the same time, it seemed Xan was right there, ready to spring. There was not the typical fighting as he was used to, but a more flowed switch. More things to keep for later. He addressed her question literally, as most cats did.

“You asked a question. I answered.” The sentence was so simple it hardly seemed an answer.

Xan took the honors. “This” he motioned to the big felus. “Is Yisoka.” Xan paused for a moment as if considering saying more, but then kept his mouth shut.

Furekatsu Anjiru
Literal or not it didn't matter much to her. Meskeet stored away what she'd been able to grasp from his name, the reaction he got from those who knew him, and his general air. It all added up to someone of interest. Someone she didn't have the need to fight with, for the time being.

"How good of you to appear." Now she could 'get to know' him far better than if the brown wolf had simply talked of him. Oh. Right the brown wolf was up to talking again. What was his name? Or names. Xan. Another bit she stored away as she curiously tapped at the edges of Yisoka's mind.

How she hated to be uninformed.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Cougars let little thoughts seep to their surface. They had to kill seers as a profession, they couldn’t let thoughts irk through, yet still, one could not truly hide thoughts no matter who you were, simply keep them camouflaged. So when one came searching there was nothing one could do to keep your secrets safe. Not that he had any secrets to keep. No, that was Xan.

Thoughts, vivid memories of muders caming rushing out, he found himself thinking about events that had occurred long long ago. One event in particular, a secret even his partners didn’t know. . .

“Death, that’s what’s for you my dear.” The voice came out sweet, from the very brown and blue that he had grown to know. It was all seen in high perspective, far above the creatures below. Two wolves were the object of interest. Names flowed into the felines mind. Kiros. Rechelle.

“What are you saying?! Kiros stop it! You aren’t in your right mind.” The screams of protest came from the female, but it only caused the male to laugh. It was a bitter sound, as if there was a hidden love beneath it that could never come out. The cougar knew it was Xan, not Kiros, and that there was no right mind for that wolf. The tales of insanity continued as the now loner began to circle. “Brother. . .” the female whispered, as if trying to drive some sense into the other wolf. She repeated the phrase again, more demanding this time. Yet Yisoka had been told that she had been a lover, and not a hater. There would be no strike from the innocent soul. The only blood that could be spilled was her own.

Xan began to circle a laugh and grin marking his already blood swept maw.

The speech of that wolf interrupted the poor cat’s revival of a day so long ago. A memory so vivid it was as if he had relived it once again. But it had stopped before it had gotten too far, before he relived that.

“Yisoka has a habit of doing that,” Xan commented, eyeing the cat and keeping his safe distance. “But surely you have reason for such questions?” Yes, it was his turn to inquire. He too needed to know everything, it suited his nature.

Furekatsu Anjiru
It was a vague thought, but undoubtably significant in some form or another. Quietly Meskeet tucked it away. She had an exquisit memory. But that was all she needed to learn for now. She could always revisit later..

She raised her head slightly as Xan became more involved with things. He didn't interest her as much as the cougar, perhaps because she'd yet to really look into him, but he was a link atleast. And that was certainly enough to prevent her from dismissing herself.

"Curiosity. What did you assume?" Perhaps she'd play his game. Answers revealed so much more than some believed.

Kealdra Arrikanez
The lone shifted his weight uncomfortably. Waiting all this time to get a straight answer from the female. Still none came. He flicked his tail indignantly, annoyed with the situation at hand.

How Xan hated wolves that played hard to get. They weren’t worth his time, and quite frankly he wasn’t afraid to point it out. “You want something. You seem at best intrigued with a cougar, even I cower at. Say it or leave.” That was the end of that. He would not bother with this waste of time. He did not have the energy or the recourses to babble on and get no where in life. If she refused to say it, then so be it. If not, well they were getting somewhere.

The cougar watched with bored interest. Wolves. So damn predictable. They bored him to no end, yet. . . He dismissed the random thinking with a flick of his tail, settling down on his haunches to watch the scene unfold before his eyes, pondering over that vision for a time, keeping the end out, for something in his mind thought that Kiros would know if he thought of it. Then the complications would arise. He wouldn’t have that.

Furekatsu Anjiru
"Aren't we testy." She sneered silently towards the male. How bothersome it was when others were no fun. And her fits of playfullness were so few as it was.

It was only now that she wondered briefly just what she really did want. Information, sure. But for what? An odd feeling of doom lingered over her thoughts. There was something she'd need tabs on multiple others for. Only something she'd yet to discover. Damn.

"Aquaintances. Everyone can offer something. I can offer the keys to many paths. And what do you want Xan? Or rather what did you want, with Yisoka." He hadn't told her his name, atleast not openly. But it didn't matter. For now she simply had to keep him guessing. Her rank would undoubtably be discovered. But not necessarily all that she had learned.

Kealdra Arrikanez
“Yes, yes we are.” Xan confirmed. He didn’t give a damn. Let her insult him until he reached his deathbed, what mattered was that progress was being made. “I don’t want anything,” Xan tested, eyeing her. If this was a contest for power, she was winning. He didn’t have any power, nor wanted any; loner life was just fine thanks.

“Its him who wants things,” Xan jerked his head towards the other, growling to himself. With that he turned tail and left. The female had gotten her acquaintance with him. He’d learn everything through Yisoka eventually. In the mean time he needed to keep walking.

The cougar simply flicked a tail at the other’s outburst. This was all quite amusing in every sense. Seeing wolves overreact was something indeed. Xan and Kiros seemed to do it a lot. Well, not so much the latter.
“Pups,” the cougar said before she could ask him a question. With that statement made, he too left, vanishing into the quick foliage. He wasn’t too hard to find, besides, he’d be watching. If she wanted them, they’d be there. Surely she knew. . .

Something to Talk About

Kealdra Arrikanez
Ran, Ran, Ran. That was all that was on her mind. Crap. Couldn’t she think of anything else? Kara shook her head, attempting to chase the pestering thoughts away. Yet they returned, hammering her head with gained veracity. In any greater numbers and they’d become too much of a headache even for the crazy b***h to handle. Not to mention she didn’t have much else to think about. Sure there was her pack, but that wasn’t important. She figured Jori and the brown were doing a mighty good job running it themselves. With the blue’s fierce temper, and of course the brown’s amazing way with words Kara felt she never even needed to be there. No one could find such a secluded spot anyway.

As usual Kara found herself pattering aimlessly, forever wandering, and searching for something. Perhaps she paced, the movement put a qualm on her soul, or perhaps it was something much deeper. Over the last few days she had become restless, leaving more and more, and it wasn’t because the thoughts of Ran plagued her soul, no it was something much more than that. A feeling one couldn’t quite place, and that knowledge that you may not want to find it.

Her footfalls landed quickly, but lightly, scent shrouded by ever flowing liquid, and thoughts covered, unsuccessfully, by the drumming roar of the river in her ears. On and on she ran, as she had done so often before. Escaping from a past as she had once done. Kaho had said she was beyond help, barely able to survive. Then again, when was Kaho right? Ran would come out of it, she told herself.

Wait. Why did she care again?

Who knew? The resultant of stopping to think caused her not to start again. The river raced by her still figure as she stared into its depths, caught by something glittering softly in the water. A bone. She eyed it more carefully, stooping lower to see just what it meant. Why had she stopped here and why had the stream not carried this prize far, far away?

Noyama
Why? Because Kaho had been extremely careful to jam it between two rocks on the bottom. He'd lug the thing around until the day he died, just as he'd promised forever ago, but he did need to wash it now and then.

The bone was small, which made sense as it came from the leg of a certain pink puppy after his death. It served as a constant reminder, and, if you will, was a type of self-punishment Kaho put himself through.

Normally when he returned to get the bone after it had been washed, there would be a small stab of guilt in his stomach. That was no longer true.

Now, it was a powerful, overwhelming guilt that made his head ache and his breathing shallow. How could he have let this happen again? Another friend died, and he'd done nothing to stop it.

His reasoning, currently, wouldn't allow him to realize going against Raja was definately 'something'. For the time being, and perhaps for a while longer, the seer would be depressed and self-hating, his paws dragging across the ground and his eyes downcast.

As he approached the spot of his 'reminder', he noticed Kara, and his ears lifted, as did his eyes, for the first time in a while.

Great...

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara was so involved in the bone she hardly noticed Kaho walking up. There was something so familiar about this thing, as if she’d seen it before. Her nose came closer and closer to the object, dangerously changing her point of weight. As elegant as she may have been running Kara was no such thing while attempting to examine something right in front of her nose. The result was a cross eyed female who plunged headfirst into the flowing current.

She jerked her head up, coughing and sputtering, glaring at the bone as if it was something evil. It had done some good, however, for it was at that moment she caught a well known scent. Her ears flicked towards it, followed by the rest of her head, still dripping wet with water. Something in her brain clicked and her eyes shifted to the seer’s neck. Tahara’s piece was not there with him. Her focused turned back to the bone, and then once more to Kaho. She didn’t know why he had lost it, or how it had become so thouroughly lodged, but she figured she might have to take it back to him.

Wiggling her nose under the house the bone now occupied she grasped the sinew lightly, careful not to harm it. Her thoughts drifted again, and she paid little attention to what she was doing. Tahara, the one Ran was upset about, the one Kaho had failed to protect. Kaho who was linked to Ran, who had tried to help Ran.

Too much Ran.

Whoops.

The object she was supposed to be handling carefully had dropped, and the current was not nice, picking it up and carrying it downstream. A look of horror washed over her face, and for once she acted quickly, dashing after it, hoping she could retrieve it before Kaho noticed. There wasn’t much hope. Damn seers.

Noyama
Somehow, Kaho managed to look amused in such a depressing way the more gentle-hearted of wolves might have burst into tears as a result of the expression. Kara... She really was clumsy, annoying. He didn't know why he put up with her sometimes.

"Kara," he called, that same sad, but yet not, smile gracing his face. "It's alright, Kara, you can let it go."

He'd find it again later, and he had absolutely no doubt of it. There was once a time he'd tried to lose it. He'd thrown it in the river, off a cliff, and even tried to bury it. But each time when he'd fall asleep, he'd wake up, and it would be right beside him.

So, like those times, it would return to haunt him. Tahara wouldn't allow it not to.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara looked from him to the bone, and back again. For a time it seemed all she could do was watch it float slowly downstream. Still there was a pang of guilt as she watched it, as if she’d let Kaho down. If she let him down, what would stop her from letting someone else, like say Ran down? Shutup about her. Yes, she told herself, that’s better. Then the thoughts came whipping back again. So she couldn’t help herself as she took a diving leap at that white flash, and came up with a successful catch. She wouldn’t be defeated by the presence of the river. Not today, not ever.

She held it up high, out of the water’s reach, and stumbled her way over to Kaho, presenting it to him as some kind of token by placing it at his feet. The moment hadn’t seemed right for words, but now it was. For a brief moment she thought about inquiring as to Ran’s progress when she saw his eyes. Her own look met his, horror washed over her face. He never looked that way. Something must have been horribly, horribly wrong. She swallowed a lump that had begun to form in her throat, but still she didn’t know what to say.

Only one good thing came of this, all thoughts of anything and everything but here and now washed from her mind. Good riddance. “Kaho. . .” she managed to whisper, unknowing of what to say. She never had been the comforting type.

Noyama
"Please, don't act sad," he said in response, and with a minor struggle managed to loop the small, but strong bit of string (or whatever it was) that held the bone around his neck.

If there had been any question as to why he was upset, his words should have answered it. Certainly, if something had happened to Ran or another mutual friend, he wouldn't have said that.

Truthfully... The world was better of without Phantom in it. He didn't belong here. But then, Kaho didn't feel he did either. The Seer was in such a distressed state, even Hayley had backed off. (For now, anyway.)

"Thank you," said the seer, paying no mind to the fact it was Kara's fault his posession had nearly washed away to begin with.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Hell he thought she was acting? She wasn’t acting! She actually felt sad for him. Couldn’t his little seerly mind pick that up? A wash of anger crossed her face, but she forced it away. Kaho already brought to much anger out of her, and he did nothing for it. It was time to let up and at least try to accept him for once. Letting a sigh escape her lips she took her seat, apparently ready for whatever came next.

What did come next? The question raced around in her mind over and over again. Cleary there was nothing. Her mind had gone blank. Odd. She never recalled it had done such a thing before. Still his voice brought a question to her mind, a strange but still amazingly sick question. Did Ran like puppies? It hit like such a hard stone Kara had barely a time to react.

Certainly that would cheer Kaho up, if anything. The prospect of a female at all nearly always made him giddy, at least in her experience. Then again, she had made him growl, so perhaps it wasn’t such a wise idea as to offer Kaho the prospect, she wasn’t good enough for him anyway, probably.

She knew there was no need to repeat anything she had thought of, unless he had lost his powers, he had heard, and she did not felt like repeating it out loud. It still felt a bit awkward. She shifted lightly on her haunches, eyes scanning a pebble, unable to look at him for in some way she felt that guilt creep up on her.

“Do you want to tell me what’s bothering you?”

Noyama
Five birds. He'd wait until five birds flew past them before he'd walk away. Because, somehow, he'd come to know Kara a reasonable amount. Partially because of his 'powers', partially just because of time spent.

One bird.

Two bird.

Around the time the third bird, a hawk, soared past them, Kara had finally spoke, and Kara looked at her with surprise. "You honestly don't know?" How could she not have picked it up? Surely her reasoning was that advanced...

But it made sense now. How she could seem so sympathetic, and not be laughing like he would expect.

Kaho laughed for her. A dry, dark, saddened sort of laugh. And when it ended, he told her in a simple way:

"Phantom's dead, Kara."

Kealdra Arrikanez
There was a shock when he said it. It wasn’t a sad, or a depressed, or even an overjoyed impact, simply a sudden realization of what had occurred. It was one thing to think something, and quite another to tell you. It wasn’t as if the thought hadn’t crossed her mind, but she had needed finality. Kaho had given it to her.

For a long while she sat in silence, still unable to comprehend what he had said. No, unable to respond to it. She could see why he would be sad, based on what Kaho had showed Ran and she, but yet, wasn’t this for the better. Something in her heart told her not, that things were only to get worse. As if Phantom was the balancing act that kept them on the edge and all teetering together. When his large supporting edge fell, they’d all topple over the cliff after him, metaphorically speaking, of course.

“What does this mean?” It was a stupid, bitter question, and she knew better than to ask it. He wouldn’t know, know one would have any clue until it happened. That was if anything came from this at all. Which she found hard to believe wouldn’t. Another thought came to her, then another.

“Why is Tahara a ghost, and what has happened to Sky? You said they were two different wolfs, Sky and Phantom so whatever happened to Sky? What keeps Tahara here, certainly he can’t hold a grudge if he is still able to ‘live.’ Surely being a butterfly has its perks. Or does it go deeper?” Always asking questions, but never getting straight answers.

Noyama
Just as Kara predicted, Kaho's answer was an unsure, "I don't know." He didn't know completely. There some things he knew. He knew Raja had taken over now. He knew the remaining wolves in the pack would follow her. He knew Meskeet was out for revenge. He knew Sashta was hurting, even if she wouldn't admit it.

He knew other things, too, but he wouldn't dare say them...

"Does it matter, Kara?" asked the seer in a sad voice. "Can't you let him stay dead? Does it matter?"

Sky, Phantom. They were the same wolf. It was Kaho who seperated them, who fed into the act the blue male had put on display, even though he knew it wasn't real.

But it didn't matter now, reguardless of what Kara's answer was.

Phantom was dead.

Let a dead wolf stay dead.

Kealdra Arrikanez
“In case you haven’t noticed, I can’t raise the dead.” She watched him carefully, seeing his sorrow and anguish deepen. “Yet here you face me, sadness washed over, making you no more a purpose in life than the Ran you tried to save.” Kara had little to no idea as to what she was saying, it all came out like a rush of words. Granted it would all be the harshest thing she had ever said to Kaho, at least in terms of truth, but it needed to be heard.

“I think it is you who needs to accept that a dead wolf is dead, and not I. I think Tahara needs to accept it, too, so he will let a live wolf live.” She spoke as though the butterfly was here. “Lastly I know that this continuum of torture is only going to eat away at souls and make your eternity unbearable. For that I wish you never rest.” The red finished it off all with a sigh. She had enough thinking today.

“But if you ever need cheering up,” she said sulkily, as if half interested, which was almost true. “Look me up. I’m only a nap away.” Regardless of whether the last part was meant to be a joke or not seriousness still lay hardened on her face like a stone. Her eyes searched his face for anything, but she could find nothing. He had a life to live, no sense living it through others. Besides that it hurt, actually pained her to see him like that. Proof that there was heart in her for another wolf other than Ran, someone she hardly knew, but seemed to have dedicated her whole life too. Yet, despite her urge to, she did not leave, she stayed. He might need someone to lean on, the least she could do was be there, even if she couldn’t help him. Sometimes it was just the presence that helped.

Noyama
Tahara and Ran seemed to come up in this conversation a lot. Kaho thought she would've been more than happy to rant about how Phantom's death was all too deserved.

He peered into her mind and blinked at the results, then shook his head and stepped back a few paces. "You shouldn't, Kara," he told her, although left it to her to figure out what the meaning behind that was.

With no other words, the seer wobbled away from her. It was time to find China Blue, go to Raja together, and decide what they planned to do from this point on...

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara watched him leave, having no knowledge as to what he truly meant. Sometimes she wished she could pry into the wolf's mind. She had been utterly useless to him, utterly useless to every damn person around. Just like she hadn't been there for Rechelle, and now she wanted murder for her own fault. Well so be it, if that was what they wanted for her, that was the end of it.

Kaho gave her little options. It wasn't like she could stop these thoughts, oh sure she knew they were wrong, but she didn't listen. A growl came to her throat, and she left, it was not a growl for Kaho, but for herself.

The sploosh of water echoed in her ears, somewhat surreal, as she waded into the river, the ever comforting river. And there she did something she hadn't done in years, she cried as a wolf does, in silence. Perhaps she would die in these torrents, perhaps not. Whatever her fate she would let the river decide. If she lived the next morning she didn't know what her path would be. Away from here, far away. If not, well, a dead wolf was a dead wolf. . .

Don't You Look Just Lovely

"Where are you going?"

"Out into the forest."

Retsu blinked unsurely. "Oh, well... Don't die." Selly nodded her head in agreement, too young to realize just how awful a parent Retsu was probably was. To an adventurous pup, an uncertain, pushover dad who let you do anything was the best kind of all!

The patchwork puppy wobbled her way into the unknown, sniffing, poking and prodding at any foreign object from animals, to corpses, to rocks and tree trunks. Things were more interesting out here than in the dark place they lived, although so far, she liked the new leader. The big red wolf.

Hop. Hop.

The motion caught her eye, and without even realizing it she began following the cricket, staring at it cross-eyed, nose nudging it curiously any time it would stop moving.

Hophophop.

Kealdra Arrikanez
It was a long time before Kara awoke from her daydream. She snapped at the day as she rose, water dripping from her hide. The river hadn’t killed her. Damn. A growl escaped her throat and she took a step forward. The moment she did she wished she hadn’t. Pain erupted into her legs and feet, a sharp poking hurt that numbed her senses. She thought for a moment she had stepped on something serrated, but as she scrambled helplessly towards shore it became clear it was her own body that was causing the irritation.

Cursing she dared a glance down at her legs. Swollen and battered, filled with grimy rushing river water. For wounds the liquid was good, but apparently it was unwise to sleep in one overnight. She picked up a tender foot, nipping at it lightly. The wound broke, spurting her in the face, and causing her to jerk back. The sting was unbearable and she found herself rushing for the river once more.

That of course made things worse, with the ice cold water biting through to shake the bone. She whined, low, so no one would hear, and then decided to abandon her efforts. With a few hops she was away from the river and on her way.

By midday the swelling had gone down some, but her legs were stained with drainage, skin badly wrinkled and caked from the effects of receding river water. She wouldn’t even need to see water in days if she carried it all in her damn legs! Sometimes life didn’t go well for her. Things were only about to get worse.

Ran hadn’t plagued her mind at all, all morning, but a scent came to her nose, followed quickly by a sound. It didn’t take long for the object of interest to come into view. A small, very oddly colored, young pup. It looked like a horrible mistake brought into this world by some ungodly fashion. But the fact was it was indeed a pup, and that was never a good thing to see when you were trying to avoid anything that reminded you of dastardly idiotic plans.

Noyama
"Hop! Hop! Hop!" chanted the puppy, echoing the word each time the creature moved, and thus she moved as well. Really, she had no idea what it was, but the movements were so funny! Maybe she'd ask Daddy later. Maybe he'd know. Maybe--

Oooh.

Just as quickly as the unknown hoppy thing had caught her attention, it was snatched away by something else, something she recognized, being one herself: A wolf.

A female one like Mommy, and all brown and white colored, with no markings at all! How ugly.

With the same content, happy look with which she'd stalked the cricket, she trotted over to Kara, careful to stay away from the water. The time she'd been saved by Baldr and Sosay taught her she couldn't swim, and she wasn't about to try and learn now.

"Hey! Hey you!" Selly called, tail wagging. "Did you fall? Selly fell once, too! In this same river! But you're pretty big, so you won't get washed away."

Kealdra Arrikanez
What did that speech remind her of? Oh yeah. She pushed the strange thoughts to the back of her mind and concentrated completely on the small pup that was gaily dancing in front of her. She had little experience with the young, perhaps it was time to start. Her first impression was to ask for the parents, but she shoved the thoughts aside. You didn’t have to think when you were around the small ones. If an adult came slinking she might have to actually act on something. Kara wasn’t in the mood for acting happy or nice. With this pup, she really didn’t have to. Seeing that bright face made her grin uncannily herself.

“I fall all the time,” she barked, sounding apparently not her age at all. Not to mention not at all like Kara. Funny things, pups. “Even us bigguns get washed away lots.” Her memory drifted to what the pup had been playing with. She found she didn’t have to feign interest in it.

“What did you have there just a moment ago? You were following something. . .” Her grin became even broader, tail wagging, her mind off the blisters that drained all about her feet.

Noyama
With the answer, Selly stuck her tounge out and formed the most adorable, yet most frustrated expression a puppy could make. Adults were so weird! But they were still better than her stupid brothers. Of course Mommy couldn't have been nice and had her a sister!

Even the big ones? Selly had to laugh. No way! She had to be kidding! No way the big wolves would get swept up by the stupid river!

"Huh?" Tiny eyes glinted, and her nose wrinkled back. "Oh, I dunno... But it went hophophop!" And to demonstrate, the puppy bounced around in a similar motion.

Kealdra Arrikanez
Kara chuckled at the small pup. So many things in life were to be treasured, youth one of them. How long till this poor soul was swept into the full on stream of life. That ever flowing philosophical river that was more deadly than the one of reality. Would death come to the youth at such a small age? Certainly if she was alone. . . That’s right. Where were this one’s parents?

She quirked a brow quizzically at the young; assessing her. She didn’t seem old enough to be out adventuring. Not by herself at least. Not that Kara cared, it wasn’t her child. Still. . . Her mind was quickly directed back towards the here and now. Watching the pup hop about was enlightenment and for a moment she considered giving one of her own hops. She tried it once, but feeling rather ridiculous quickly decided this wasn’t the path for her.

“Surely you didn’t come such a long way by yourself?” she inquired, peering about for parents.

Princess? Hah!

Kealdra Arrikanez

“Dumdeedoo,” the little pink pup sang, bouncing about in a lovely fashion. Noyama was perhaps the prettiest young female out there, entitled to the fact that she was pink. Only the highest wolves possessed such a color, all others attempts at beauty were futile against the unique color. Never mind that she looked as though depression marked her very life - streaks of blood red falling from her eyes for all of eternity - she was the happiest wolf on earth. Not to mention one of the smartest. That’s right, along with her stunning looks she possessed some of the brightest brains in the forest, at least she thought so.

To be truthful her beauty may be something in later years, but for now she was a scraggly young pup with a knack for trouble. She wasn’t big on brains, but she knew how to tweak and read others, saying exactly what they wanted to hear and knowing what reaction she’d get. For the most part she kept them happy, forming alliances with everyone she’d meet, but there were a few whom she couldn’t stand, so would sent them into fits of rage no matter how docile. This provided her with a good deal of entertainment, and she found herself wandering away from her parents quite frequently, normally on the search for something to destroy.

She’d been the death bringer of dirt, flowers, ferns, and small bugs alike. They’d someday all know her as the bringer off terror and only those who found her way to her hearts would be free. Little did she know the title had been long since claimed by a blue wolf (such an ugly color). She was only a pup after all; how was she supposed to know such important data. So on this day the ‘little bringer of destruction’ was busy searching for her next victim.

Her parents had warned her not to stray to far, but she had anyway, venturing off several days away from the den. The passage she had taken echoed quite clearly in her mind. Out the dark prison, facing the sun, through the tunnel of sticks, around the batch of ferns, over the giant river rock bridge . . . so on and so forth. The sun was shining brightly on her vibrant flesh, flashing against the cooling foliage as she bounded about. Several clouds dotted the sky, threatening to take away her warmth and peace. “Away!” she told them, scowling disdainfully. They would listen to her, everything did. “Go away!” she echoed as they seemed to accumulate. Her distraught orders to the clouds were soon forgotten as something more promising crossed her path. For in her way was a giant, humungous, stick!

A sharp grin crossed her maw, revealing spindly white teeth capable of tearing such a stick to shreds. With a new gained veracity she leapt at her victim, clamping and snapping, destroying what she could grab her mouth around. The stick shuddered in pain, and tried to twitch about – aided by her paws – till at last it remained still. The smile still fresh on her face Noyama settled down to chew at her prize. It quivered once before she gave it a warning glance to calm it. It was a good day and victory was hers. Then again, when wasn’t it?

Noyama
Hayley yawned broadly and slunk forward, lazily but gracefully. Always graceful. She was her, after all. Graceful, proper, and equipped with a charm she knew would win Kaho over eventually. Given he didn't going insane first like that shaman had.

There were new things that had piled stress on him so heavily somebody might as well of tossed a boulder right on him!

Hayley sighed. Poor Kaho. He was too cute to have to suffer through things like this. Why couldn't an ugly, packless wolf be trapped in this situation?

Because this forest was a horrible place where things like that happened.

"Mm?" the 'princess' halted at the smudge of dark colors, tilting her head and blinking a few times. Oh, a puppy... "You're like, not suppose to eat those."

Kealdra Arrikanez
For quite a few moments the pup remained involved in her item. Not that she didn’t notice the strange figure sauntering up to hackle her about her eating habits, but she simply didn’t care. Her ears flicked forward and aft to acknowledge the others presence until she finally turned her head to watch the others footfalls. Her tail shifted in the dirt, pushing the earth from side to side ever so slightly. For a moment Noyama couldn’t discern quite what the other meant. Pups weren’t good to eat? Or was it perhaps that the stick she was destroying wasn’t good to eat? That couldn’t have been it, either, because she wasn’t consuming the stick, merely ending its short and pathetic life. Maybe the green wanted a stick of her own so she relied on strange conversation to try and weed it away from Noyama? That must have been it. She wasn’t against sharing.

Giving the other her best puppy tail wag she gingerly picked up the largest portion of the remaining stick and dragged it to the green. She promptly dropped it to the other’s feet and titled her head questioningly. “There’s not much left. . .” she muttered, gazing at the section of brown material and back to the newcomer. “But I’m sure you could manage something.” The other idea suddenly occurred in her mind again, this time seeming much less outrageous. “Unless you mean to eat me,” she gawked. “In which case I don’t taste too fine.” There was hardly any concern in her voice; she spoke as though it were small talk over that day’s kill. Yet there was a tone of seriousness as well, showing that she actually believed someone might eat her. It was probably a perfectly normal thing.

The conversation didn’t seem completed enough. “Noyama,” she eventually decided to end her talking turn. “That’s what I’m called.” There, now it was a time deemed purposeful enough for the other to speak.

Noyama
Eww. Gross. Eat a puppy? That was so icky! And Phantom's area of expertise. Although, he was dead now, which someone kept slipping her mind. She'd never liked him very much.

"No way I'd eat you." Besides, the puppy looked sort of fat. If she ate fat things, she'd get fat, too, right? Right. "Noyama, is it?" Her nose wrinkled back, as if the name struck her as unpleasent.

Then again, this whole situation was unpleasent.

"Where are your parents?"

Kealdrana Sasaiuni
Noyama wagged her tail. She was secretly relieved that the other wolf was not going to eat her, but she didn't want to seem to overjoyed about it. A simple swish of the red tipped fur would do in this situation. "Yep!" she piped in respsonse to the others question, despite the fact that it had been rhetorical. Her mouth opened once more to utter a question when the other shut her up fast.

"Parents!?" the pup tried to act surprised about the whole situation. She hadn't yet full learned the complete meaning of the word parents, still not realizing that everyone had some. She probably should be getting home to them, it had been around a week, but she really didn't feel like it.

"No, no parents." A mischevious grin crossed her face. "Unless you wanted to be parents?" Her tail wagged with increased enthusiasm. "But Noy would need to know your name first!"

Noyama
"No way, squirt! I don't do the mother dearest roll very well!" Never, ever. Because having puppies meant you were old like that Sashta person, and she certainly wasn't. Plus, it made that horrible, horrible 'R' word come up: Responsibility.

The thought alone made her shudder.

"No way," she repeated, and didn't offer her name either out of forgetfullness or willingly. "But if you want a mom, I'm sure the alpha would take you or something."

We're All Mad Just a Little

Furekatsu Anjiru
User Image

The day was peacefull as nature busied itself with changing seasons. Trees began to change from green to bright oranges, reds, and yellows. Green began to fade from many things as those three colors decided to settle in. Lestat wasn't sure if it all had even been green to begin with, but he was certainly most distressed by the change.

A pack was a curious thing to be part of. Though still dimly aware of what all it entitled the young pup was atleast able to see that everyone had a specific job. What a bother. He was convinced that whatever job he would get he would fail in, and so before he'd even had a chance to try anything he'd taken to simply moping about.

There was something missing in his life that he just couldn't quite put his finger on. Oblivious to how a normal family worked, with two parents and generally multiple offspring, the pup passed off the empty feeling as a desire for adventure.

Huffing hopelessly he flung himself next to rock and rolled numbly onto his side. If only life weren't so dull.

Kealdrana Sasaiuni
Noyama had never seen the change of seasons before. It was quite the thing to look at. In fact she had hoarded together her own special collection of colored leaves. It had become her favorite passtime; gathering them up, then spreading them out to shove them all back together again. Her family wasn't complaining, it kept her at home, a place she never was anymore. Still quite young, she was far to adventureous for such a vulnerable age, and they knew in their hearts she'd be lunch meat quite quickly.

In any case today was one of those days, that would turn into weeks, that she was far away from home. Her antics had brought down the lives of many sticks, rocks, and moss-covered objects. Nothing could stand in her path and escape. Luckily for her, the only wolf she met was the estranged green whom she still didn't know the name of. She'd find out some day, little green princess would pay for being such a dolt! Honestly, could anyone get anymore rude?

If it was one thing she wouldn't tolerate, it was rudeness. In fact, anyone that was so towards her went on her secret hit list. Which she intended to carry out once she was of age. In the mean time she'd go on manipulating those that didn't cross her in the sweetest ways. That way if anyone tried to stop her she'd have a backing of several friends. Such were the way things worked because she was such a smart pup.

Her hips swayed lightly, flashing the vibrant and beautiful pink hide she possessed. Pink was the most beatiful of colors (blue being the ugliest), and everyone who was pink was royalty. You knew that the pink were the smartest, and the most beautiful, there was simply no contest. Noyama found every way possible to tell this to those she met. As was the case right now when her amazingly perfect nose sniffed out and extraordinarily ugly puppy.

"Ew. . " she scoffed, her tongue half out as she exposed her teeth and wrinkled her nose. Apparently colors gave off a very vile scent. "You're blue and brown!" She tucked her tail absently and poked a paw at the dead looking figure. "What happened to you? Did you fall in someones droppings and get sprinkled by holy water?" It was possibly the worst sight she had ever come across. She didn't know how much longer she could look at such a thing without vomiting all over the green earth. Green went so well with pink.

Furekatsu Anjiru
There were many things in the world Lestat wished he possessed. High intelligence, a not-so-lanky body, someone to talk to, and right now, a cunning comeback. Instead, all he did was gape at her upside-down taking her in, confused out of his mind.

Huh?

Very self critical he was a bit annoyed at her observations. He didn't think blue and brown were quite so bad, despite the fact that his father didn't have a drop of brown on him. He even thought it was a nice color, refined. Not like this pink creature before him. Pink? Who in their right mind wanted to be pink?

But those were Becker's thoughts, and there was a considerable difference.

I don't get it. She's an idiot. Say something clever. I have to do everything. Fine.

"What?"

Brilliant. You try then Mr. Smartypants.

Say : Nothing of the sort. But with dull hair like yours it would be easy to figure you've got a dull mind to match.

...And get shot? All you two ever are is mean. Can't you see this is a plight for attention?

Neither Lestat nor Becker were ever very amused by Evem. While the mostly brown pup had begun to develop odd personality quirks quite rapidly after leaving his mother the arrival of Evem was by far the most recent. And who could blame them for disliking him? He was too soft, even by Lestat's standards.

"Erm..no. Who are you?"

Kealdrana Sasaiuni
Oh dear. . . one of those. Yes those wolves that took absolutely ages to respond. The ones tha tmade conversations stop at a teeter right on the edge and you never can jump or back away. You are simply stuck there in monotonous continuity wishing only to either slip, or accidently find your throat somewhere far away. That wasn't the point. What really mattered was that the creature, whatever origin it may be, was finally opening its maw to say something. Hopefully it would be clever beacuse that would earn it bonus points. She might even be able to overlook its very atranged nature.

Unfortunately there was no rewarding retort from the individual. She cwoled quite readily at this large brown ball of puke and stuck out her tongue at it. "You think you deserve my name?" She cocked a furry brow at him, her overlarge tongue lolling out unsympathetically. Then she reconsidered and decided perhaps she'd gain something from this afterall.

"Well," she mused, her eyes now narrowed. "Maybe you do. But who's to say you don't?" She wagged her little tail, spreading dirt about and marveling about her absolutely brilliant comments.

"We'll strike a deal," she continued, speaking for him, despite the fact he had 3 people to do it for him. "I'll give you mine if you give me yours. Who knows, maybe we can become friends despite your. . . odities."

Furekatsu Anjiru
What's she want to know our names for? To Lestat names were nice to have, but he couldn't see anything worth any sort of deal in them. It wasn't like he wouldn't have told her anyway. The only question was which name she would have gotten.

It's a girl thing. Must be. You don't see dad running around asking names of everyone he meets. Bet he does though. Oh shut up you idiot.

Evem, on the other hand, was pleased. Ignoring all negative aspects of the pink pup's comments he was utterly delighted in the mere posibility of becoming friends with someone other than Lestat or Becker. Ooooh. Can we be her friend?

Dunno. I guess so. You give in to everything. Just look at her. She can't be anything good. You, Becker, are bringing in too much negative energy. Maybe you should just go rest for a while, you'll be happier when you come back. Bite me.

Once again confused Lestat blinked at her a moment before shrugging his shoulders. "Yah, alright."

"I'm Lestat." Pssst. No body cares. "You want to be friends?"

Kealdrana Sasaiuni
This was all too weird. Not only did it not talk, but it seemed to change its mind. At first it seemed reluctant, then it seemed to spring to be her friend. What on earth was up with that? It couldn't be anything normal. In fact it was downright deranged. "Noyama," she firmly stated, nodding her head to show the importance of it all.

"Lestat, eh?" she asked him, in a rhetorical fashion. This posed intersting. It was definately an odd name to have. She couldn't imagine have an l in a name. In fact she found it rather hard to prounounce, but she managed none the less. "I don't choose to be friends," she corrected the other. "It just happens." Her ears flicked back in minor annoyance, though it was quite impossible to truly get under the pinks skin. She was to perfect to get angry and it was far below her esteem to stoop to such levels.

"Where," she continued, her eyes glancing around. "Is your mother?" She glared at him as if punishing him for some deed. "You shouldn't wander away from your parents you know. Its not good for your health." With that said she stuck her nose in the air and slithered past him, no doubt on the path to destroy some waiting stick. They were all so brown.

She was flustering. Interacting with her could become down right agonizing. So, Becker mused grouchily, why were they still around? Let's leave.

Unlike the grumpier side Lestat generally held few grudges, very little affected him in general. So why, if he was so difficult to upset, was he so darned depressed all the time? He couldn't figure it out. Perhaps, he mused much like his mother would, my intelligence is far too limited to allow me to ever know. In that case, he decided, he would just have to ask someone else.

But the fact was, that one thing did bother him. While unsure of what exactly a mother did, he was positive that there always was one. Whether they were required to stick around or if they never really came at all didn't matter. As long as everyone had one. Indeed he'd seen wolves in the pack with mothers, even females who would soon be mothers. Where, then, was his?

"Don't have one. But I got a dad. Dunno. S'pect he's working."

See how concerned she is? Friend potential, right there! Just don't mess up, pllllleeeasee. Can it. She can't be older than us. Who's she to think she's so high and mighty? Dunno. Must be a girl thing.

Because, frankly, nearly everything was a girl thing. But what Becker, Lestat, and Evem did most certainly were not girl things. Well...maybe including Evem was a bit of a stretch..

"Where're yours?"

Kealdrana Sasaiuni
How did one not have a mother? That was downright insane. After meeting the green she had specifically asked if everyone had parents. Her own family had thought she'd gone mad. Of course everyone did. So this brown must have been lying. Great. A liar and a dumb head. Just what she needed on a day like today.

"Working. .. " she didn't ask what it was, she wasn't sure she wanted to know. Not to mention the other probably couldn't answer her. Perhaps she should get to working, whatever it may be. Nah, she liked this adventure stuff, much better.

"Mine?" she questioned. "I er. .. " she thought for a moment, deciding best how to answer it. Her hind end fell behind her posed tail, eyes rolling to the back of her head to think. "Dunno," she decided upon, dragging a stick she'd unearthed. Her teeth went at it mechanically, but she wouldn't forget her rudeness.

"Want some?" she inquired, looking from him to the stick.

Plants bothered Lestat. Just in general. He hated all plants; weeds, flowers, trees, bushes. And he was the only one who did. Even Evem and Becker didn't mind them all too much. Something about plants ability to survive just annoyed him to no end.

So naturally when the brown pup saw the odd girl chewing a stick his first impulse was to step on it and snap it. Simply because it had once been part of a plant. What was her reason?

Probably because it's brown. Whaddajerk. We should just leave now. There has to be someone we can taunt closer to dad. You never give anyone a chance. Well then what do you think Lestat? ..I dunno.

Shrugging Lestat sat down in a huff and stared at her. "Are you hungry or something?"

Kealdrana Sasaiuni
Noyama let out a sigh. "No you silly furry brained blue striped excuse for a pup!" She threw the stick towards his face, hopin perhaps that she might hit him squarely in the nose. She didn't tolerate idiots, and he clearly was one, but every idiot had its use.

"I'm killing it," she told him, not caring whether the stick had met its mark or not. "Its a stick, all sticks deserve to die." She looked at him squarely, obviously very serious about the whole ordeal.

"Are you just going to ask questions all day, or do you have a purpose?" she inquired, looking very agitated with the persistent sarcadial nature of the other. Why would she eat a stick if she was hungry?! Gross!

Furekatsu Anjiru
Indeed the stick did whack Lestat squarely in the nose because in a moment of confusion the pup failed to move as he noticed the stick coming towards his face.

Great job genius. Why don't you just gut her now so we can get on with things?

"It's a stick...isn't it already dead?" He didn't get girls. Killing he understood well from watching his father bring in meals. Never once had he seen Arguin strut proudly back with a stick.

She's looney.

"Well. I guess I don't have a purpose. So I'll catch you later if I think of one."

Figures. We finally get a chance to make friends with someone worth while and you two throw it all away.

Shut up Evem. Go cry in a ditch.

With a flick of his tail the dark brown pup slunk away to find his father. He needed two things at the moment now that he thought of it. Food, and a purpose. Great.
