This year at camp we sang a song for role call that one of our fellow YCLs wrote for us. It was so funny! You have to picture like 20 YCLs in front of the whole camp singing this when you read it, k?

I Need A Man (to the tune of "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid)

Look at my smile, isn't it great?
Wouldn't you think that I'd have a date?
Looking at me, yeah you'd think- sure, she's got everything!
I've got toothpaste and mouthwash a plenty.
I've got hairspray and make up galore.
You wanna go dutch? I've got a 20.
But who cares? No big deal, I want more.
I wanna be where the Elders are.
I want one for my eternal companion.
One who's not afraid of, what's that word again?
Oh, commitment.
In seminary class you don't get too far.
Dates are required for real romancing.
Hoping for an engagement, what's the word? Ring.
A guy who is fun, a guy who is cute, a guy who would look real good in a suit.
I'm really great! Why don't I date? I need a man.
What would I give, If I could live in Salt Lake City?
What would I pay, to spend a day on temple grounds?
Bet you they'd call, if they weren't all just so, intimidated.
Bright young maiden, sick of waitin', ready for more.
And ready to know what the couples know.
Ask them my questions and get some answers.
What's a gentlemen, and why is he, what's the word, extinct.
Why can't they think and see me now?
I am a woman worth more than eight cows!
I'm really great! Why don't I date? I need a man.

When did they write it? No offense to her but it's been around for a while. We sung it at my first girls camp and I just finnished my fourth year.

Anyway yeah, it's an...interesting song.

Oh darn. I thought she was so clever. We all assumed she wrote it, cause none of us had heard it before.

*lol* Thanks for sharing. Reminds me of the song "rewrites" my friends and I used to do at Girl's Camp. Things like "I Walk In Pain" instead of "I Walk In Faith" (about the hikes) and an remake of "They Do Run Run" which I almost still remember.

Ha, I love that! Now I want to listen to "Part of Your World". And oddly enough, the song from Aladdin.

My little cousin (My cousin's daughter) sang this once for a Mutual Talent Show. It was hilarious as she is a skinny little red-head and looks rather Ariel-ish!

For the dummies like me... What is YCL? Young Camp Leader? Is that the new name for Adventerers or something?

I only went to camp for 2 years.. Once as a 4th year, and then a 1st year JC. When I was 14 and joined the church, that summer I was out of town. Then I went when I was 15 and 16, and then when I was 17, I was out of town again (although that time I wasn't too disappointed).

we called the YCLs JCs also - mainly because we lived in Jefferson City Missouri at the time. ^_^

Thats so funny! xd
I wrote a parody at girls camp too to the song "All You wanted" by Michelle Branch. We sang it for the little talent thing at the end of girls camp. Anyone care to hear/read it? I think I still remember...

OMG that's GREAT.

Quote:

The best line in the whole thing.

This song is the story of my life. -_- lol
