I don't profess to know everything (or even a lot for that matter sweatdrop ) But I have been ot Japan 5 times and it is hard not pick up some things about the culture. If you have a specific question I would be happy to try and answer.

Well, I don't know much, but I know a few table manners. For example it's considered extremely rude to waste rice and soy sause, so when pouring soy sause to eat with i.e. sushi, don't put more than you think you'll use. And don't leave any rice left in your bowl/ dish.
You should not stick the chopsticks in anyfood, and definatly not in rice because that is only done in a funeral ceremony.

About table manners..
Pointing your chop sticks at people is rude. You'r not supose to pour your own drink it's bad luck, you should ask someone to do it for you. And if you empty your cup the host usually just keeps filling it, so if you don't want any more, then just leave a little bit because if you drink it all they will just pour you some more.

That is very dangerous when you are drinking Sake...because they keep filling up your glass it is really hard to tell how much you have drunk gonk

Any one here try sake? What did you think of it? I liked it alot. Traditionaly it's served hot but I like it better cool. Here's a interesting fact on sake. No matter how much sake you drink and get drunk the next morning you wont have a hang over. And if you have a hang over in the morning from other alcoholic drinks take a shot of sake and you'll better. (That's what they say anyways, haven't tested this theory my self yet.)

Although I've never been to Japan, I know this is true.
Unlike here in America, where we send our elderly to a nursing home, in Japan the grandparents usually live with the family (this is seen in various anime; Inuyasha, Tenchi Muyo, and many others). The Japanese have great respect for their elders. So when they are telling someone something, they don't think it's just the babblings of an old person, like most of us do here.
If I made any mistake, feel free to correct me. This is just from what I've seen and read about the Japanese culture. o.o;

Yeah, I think the children have an extreme obligation to take care of their parents until death.

I've also heard that doing good in school is a must, and those with the best greates are considered cool, but not nerds like in so many other countries

I really like Sake...the reason it is normally served hot is because all sake tastes good if it is hot. When Sake is served cool you can really tell if it is good Sake or not. The best Sake is smooth even if it is served cold. I personally am a fan of chilled Sake. And come to think of it I was drunk that night and I don't recall any sort of a hangover.... 3nodding
