I just spent all day trying to find some Japanese fonts but came out with only 5 and none of them where what I was really searching for. I do a lot of Photoshop -points to sig- and I want a greater range of fonts so that I can do some neat stuff in Japanese.
The font I was specifically searching for today was a Japanese graffiti style font. There are heaps of English graffiti fonts but from my googling it seemed there was none. I'm not excellent at Japanese though and don't know everything so I might have missed something when scrolling through the sites in Japanese.
Any help in this would be very much appreciated and if I've done wrong by creating a thread concerning the lack of Japanese fonts then please ignore and/or delete this.

The only fonts I know of for Japanese are MS Gothic, MS Mincho, MS PGothic, MS PMincho, MS UIGothic, and MS Bolvi. I don't know of anymore you can use.

I think your best bet would be to do it by hand, since a lot of the Japanese fonts I've found charge $200+ to download.

Aiko_589 this is japanese website for free font, the look ok some of them, not all though: [^_^]Thanks, I found that site but there wasn't a graffiti one. Take a look at this site dafont That's what we need, a site like that with 1000s of Japanese fonts. Koiyuki - I can barely write English in graffiti style (that's why I have the font to do it for me) let alone in Japanese but thanks anyway and where were you looking? I didn't find any sites that wanted to charge me let alone that much money to download.

However, as I said, it is an incredibly expensive thing to get. And thank you, Aiko, I found some very nifty designer fonts there.

Well, I can imagine that free japanese fonts are going to be hard to find if they render more than just the hiragana/katakana. There are waaay too many kanji to render for people to do it for free, unless they just really like to render fonts. xp However, one of the first sites I found when I searched was a Japanese Unicode Fonts site. It has 60+ fonts that all render kanji and all are free for download, ... I'm just not sure what system(s) they're for, but they're mostly .TTF files, so I think that's what most PCs use, right?
There is also an RSS feed available to get updates when that site gets new fonts. (either updates on all fonts, or just japanese fonts is available)

I also found a site called Maniackers : Design Font that has free and share fonts, which are both free for non-commercial use. Not many of them have kanji, but most of them have either AL (alphabet), KT (katakana), HR (hiragana) or a combination of the three. They also have special remix sets that have very cool designs for limited characters.

Hmm, I wish I had seen the Maniackers site earlier, 'cause some nifty foints can be had there. I think I'll link this to the sticky in the Learning Japanese thread, though.

http://www.flopdesign.com/e_font/index.htmlThis is a good site I think, and they recently added English! They have maybe half and half freeware and shareware (which actually means you have to pay for use) selection of fonts. Most the fonts you'll find online though that are extremely different than 'mincho,' 'gothic,' et al. are Hiragana Katakana and Alphabetic only. So - you can't really use the IME for all of the fonts. There's a few, but they're all similar variations of what Aiko had posted already. But the Hiragana / Katakana ones are great ; you have to learn a different keyboard layout to use them though :/ Here are some other good sites for truetype fonts, http://www.digitaldreamdesign.net/ - Japanese only http://www.geocities.co.jp/two_2dogs/ - Japanese only http://www.orange.ne.jp/~den7/ - Japanese only. Some of them have usage policies [I don't know about these sites in particular]. If you can't read Japanese, the usage policies are usually something along the lines of, 'do not distribute, do not use for commercial purposes (freeware only), do not modify'
