Welcome to the classroom. This is Charms and Magical Spells, a course where you the student will be learning all the essentials and more about magical spells. The things you learn in here not only benefit your knowledge during school, but they could benefit you for life if you so wish to include magic in it. I am accepting a maximum of ten students. You must be able to accept help and constructive critisism, be prepared to work hard, and be willing to understand everything that is magic. Because, dear student, if you do not believe, you cannot achieve.

Any student that wants to join this class must have the following abilities:

-You shall roleplay to the best of your ability, if only you stay in present tense and use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
-You will behave in a respectful and courteous manner to your teacher and your peers.
-You will do all classwork and homework that is assigned to you in a neat, timely, and complete manner.
-You shall follow all these rules and more that may come in time. Failure to do so will result in confrontation via PM.

Any student that wants to join this class also must fill out an application form, which must include:

-An explanation as to why Charms and Magical Spells interests you.
-A sample post (In Character), so I may assess your ability in roleplay.
-A short answer to each of these questions:
1. What kinds of spells do you wish to learn?
2. What do you intend to do with what you learn here?
3. What are the goals that you wish to accomplish in this class?

When I have five students, I will start my first class. I expect your first post here to be of you pinning your application under the noticeboard; do not just have the application in your post. Doing so will result in me asking you to leave this class, since you clearly cannot follow the rules I have laid out. If you want others to know what you look like, mix a description in with your posts. Do not post things that a casual observer could not know from your appearance alone. Do not quote what another student has said- all the posts here are staying here, and nobody needs to see it again. And finally, dear student, do have fun, and enjoy yourself. I look forward to seeing you in the classroom.

The hallway that you've come across is one that is well lit by the sunlight streaming in from large arched windows, thickly paned with a blue tinted glass. If you stayed long after classes were over, you would notice that as dark falls outside, the tall white candles- stuck straight and sure in their expertly designed bronze holders- light up with a flame that wasn't there the last time you looked. Across from one particularly large and open window is a solid oaken door, carved with delicate images of roses at the corners. The curved handle is the same bronze as the candle holders, polished to a brilliant shine, and as you make a motion to reach for it, the latch clicks, and the door opens on its own accord.

As you enter, the small hallway like area beyond the door gives way to a much larger room, the grey brick walls stretching far to either side of you. As soon as you step into the area, you notice four long mahogany tables situated in the middle of the classroom, facing the east wall. These tables are long enough to have five to six students sitting at them at one time, and the red cushioned stools, which number five per table, confirm your suspicions that there's going to be an awful lot of elbow room for you.

Behind the tables, at the west wall, there is a small library of sorts. Three bookshelves are loaded neatly to the brim, and are evenly spaced between themselves. The west wall itself contains an open window of the same quality as the ones you saw outside, and underneath it on the cushioned window seat lies a midsized gray tabby cat, dozing in the rays of morning sunlight. As you approach him, he lifts his head up and looks at you with piercing emerald green eyes, and the look makes you want move along quickly to the next wall.

The north wall is a continuation of the library at the west wall- except for the fact that the library here is actually set into the wall and not a separate piece of furniture, although the top of the bookshelf sticks out enough as to hold various magical items that you can't identify. As is with the western library, the northern wall contains a vast collection of spellbooks, written in the Athear language, and is systematically placed among the shelves. More windows above the bookshelves let light come in, and a slight breeze lifts your hair up as you continue onto the last two walls.

The eastern side consists of a blackboard that takes up half of the wall, any traces of chalk dust nonexistant. A few feet in front of the blackboard and situated on the left side is the obvious teacher's table, stacked with one or two books that you saw missing from the libraries, and equipped with three drawers on either side of the desk. An inkwell is on the upper right corner of the table, with a raven's feather as a quill stuck inside it. Underneath the inkwell are a few pieces of parchment, and what you can see from your point of view, seem to be some important school documents. Other than a rose decorated porcelein tea cup filled with a caramel colored liquid- which you guess is coffee with cream- the table is devoid of anything else. Behind the table is a medium sized arm chair, red cushioned like the students' chairs but with a polished gold edging. On one of the arms of this chair is perched a hawk, tawny brown in color. Her large doe brown eyes flick towards you in curiosity, and in interest one could hold a staring contest with the bird, until you would shake out of your reverie and continue on to finish your assessment of the classroom.

Behind the tutor's table is another door, similar to the door you came through to get in, but smaller in size. It is apparently the teacher's own storage room, and obviously off limits to students. Next to the door on the wall is a noticeboard covered with various shaped corks- ranging from a cat's head to a rosebud to a sparkle of magic- and the papers that the corks are pinning down.

Finally, as you face the wall with the exiting door, you notice four paintings mounted on the southern wall, all of them landscape paintings. What's interesting about them is that all of the paintings seem to move on their own; the water gently flowing continuously, the leaves of the tree rustling in an unseen wind. Perhaps it is a trick of the light, but nevertheless, it is entrancing and breathtaking all the same. All of the pictures are hung in exquisitely made frames, made with gold siding and more carved roses. As you exit, you make a note on which chair- or table, rather- that you would like to sit at during the next class, and head out back to your dorm.

The Charms and Magical Spells classroom is dark, which seems odd, seeing as it is nearly time for lessons to begin. In fact, the students are already beginning the tiring journey of going up three sets of stairs to get to the room. It takes about 20 minutes to climb all of them, and already a quarter of that had passed. And still, there is no sign of a teacher going up the stairs.

Inside the classroom in question, a small gray cat stirrs at one of the window seats, lifting its head up. Its bright emerald green eyes blink slowly as blue spheres of light, glowing softly, appear and circle around the center of the room. The balls of light swirl faster and faster, until at last there is a bright flash of blue, and a feminine figure is standing there. The woman gazes around the room, and seeing the cat, smiles slightly. "Scorn, as early as ever, I see," she says in a soft lyrical voice. "Are you that eager to pester the new students?" She kneels down, her indigo skirt and forest green cape gathering around her, and holds out her hands to him. The cat leaps off of the window seat gracefully, and trots over to snuggle into her arms.

"They're so easy to tease," Scorn replies in a low baritone. Juri laughs quietly, cradling him in one arm as she waves slightly to the window curtains with the other. "Npheo." At once the curtains are pulled back by an invisible hand, the sunlight streaming in and illuminating the darkest corners of the room. She does the same hand motion with the door, and it opens outward with a creak. "There, now we have some light in the room."

The sorceress walks over to her desk, where she sets Scorn down. "Hm...where did I put my lesson plans?" She searches around the desk, murmuring to herself. "Ah, here they are." She thumbs through them, stroking her pet with one hand all the while. "I'll need some books from the library...Levatais." She pointed her index finger towards the library, and the shuffling sounds of books being moved can be heard. Three leather bound books come floating over, and as they come near, she extends her hand to catch them before putting them on her desk. "Now all that's left to do is to wait for the students," she says to Scorn, and opens the door to the storage room before entering and closing it behind her. What she is doing in there no one can say, but her students wouldn't be seeing her entering it anyways.

"How can she walk up all these steps every day?" A redhead could be seen walking up the three sets of stairs early that morning, a book bag slung over her shoulder, a paper in her hand, and a frown across her face. "Oh right. She can teleport herself, of course..." Ariai Shirasu sighs and continued on, her steps feeling heavier by the second. "I should've asked her to teach me how to teleport before we came to this school...It would've made going up these steps a lot more easier." She pauses as she reaches the turning point for the second set of stairs. "But I guess that's the reason why I'm applying to Cousin Juri's class, to learn magic."

A flutter of wings alerts her that Daime had found her mistress, and she looks up to see her hawk hovering over her head, wings beating powerfully, before landing on her shoulder. The female bird of prey makes sure her talons were not ripping any of the lace on Ariai's red orange blouse before addressing the redhead. "I just saw Lady Mina. It seems she's still asleep." Ariai rolls her eyes with a smile. "Huh...I wonder if she wants to enroll in Cousin Juri's class. It would certainly benefit her." Daime, having settled comfortably on her mistress' shoulder, nods wisely. "The two of you need to learn everything you can in order to graduate out of the Academy and succeed in Athear."

"Yes...I suppose you're right." The two of them settle into a comfortable silence as Ariai continues to climb the stairs. "Daime, I heard that Cousin Juri wanted to visit the old clan grounds. Why would she want to do that?"

"Because memories are too hard to get rid of," Daime says simply. Ariai nods slowly and continues on as she ponders this. Her cousin is older than her by six years, Mina eight. That was eight years of happy memories that would be buried in the ashes of Ume. The blow was probably worse for her than it had been for herself and Mina. She sometimes caught glimpses of her cousin in her room, crying quietly at her window seat. It is still painful for her.

That's why I have to study. To make sure that nothing like the Great War happens here in Athear. So nobody will have to cry. She glances down at the paper clutched in her hands. And this is the first step to doing it. I have to become a better sorceress.

Application
-An explanation as to why Charms and Magical Spells interests you.
Charms and Magical Spells interests me because I want to be a better sorceress. Learning different spells and charms will prepare me for living as an adult and being a capable woman of magical ability, and expand my knowledge of the subject. I also want to be able to help other people with what I learn in this class.
-A sample post, so I may assess your ability in roleplay.

The light of the morning shone through the window's laced curtains, causing the sole occupant of the room to stir from her position at her oaken desk. Ariai shifted, causing the papers she had been sleeping on to rumple a little. A sleepy yawn escaped her lips as she sat up properly. A rustle of wings near her shoulder alerted her to her hawk guardian.

"Good morning," the girl said, rubbing her eyes. Daime clicked her beak in greeting. "It's nearly time for breakfast. You'd better get ready." The redhead nodded and tumbled off to prepare for the meal. As she brushed out her hair, a thought sparked in her. Today was the entrance exams for Xanthian's Academy. That was why she had been studying so late into the night before. A nervous shiver went down her spine, but she continued her work. Getting nervous wouldn't help her.

Fifteen minutes later she was heading down the spiraling set of stairs to the dining room. It seemed that her cousin and sister had already headed out somewhere, because nobody was there. A still warm breakfast of toast and juice was laid out, however, with a note written in her cousin's neat cursive: Good luck with the exams!

"I'll need it," Ariai murmured, nibbling on the toast. The taste didn't register into her mind, only the fact that it was food did. After she downed her glass of juice she experimentally flicked her hand at the dishes, saying in a clear voice, "Levatais." The plate and the glass wobbily lifted up into the air, and made a less than elegant pathway to the sink in the kitchen. The girl congratulated herself mentally, then lifted Daime to her shoulder. She was just about to head out when she heard a harsh crash of glass and chinaware. "Oops..."

Daime clicked her tongue again, now in exasperation. "You need to concentrate the whole way." Ariai rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "Yeah...Um, I'll deal with it when I get back..." With that she scurried out the door.

-A short answer to each of these questions:
1. What kinds of spells do you wish to learn?
I am willing to learn anything you are teaching, though I want to learn spells for everyday life and how to improve on my Elemental powers.
2. What do you intend to do with what you learn here?
I intend to use my teachings for helping others in Athear. I might consider tutoring for younger students that might need help with magic.
3. What are the goals that you wish to accomplish in this class?
To expand on what I already know and to learn new things for my benefit for later in life.

"Looks good," the redhead confirms, fingering the parchment. As she reached the top, she pauses to catch her breath. Daime shifts her feet on her shoulder. "Stamina," the hawk chirps. Ariai gives her a look before reaching out and opening the door. The room is cool and dark, obviously a sign that her cousin is not in. She immediately notices a blue ring of light around what seems to be a bulletin board- probably something her new teacher did to attract a student's attention to it. She walks over and pins it down before letting her eyes rove around the room. She had seen it already; Juri had let her and Mina come with her to let them know where her room was. "No use in standing around. I have to get my dorm room ready..." Ariai heads out silently, anticipating the lessons that were to come.

Shina had walked half-way up the stairs, and the other half was dragging herself up. She wondered how crazy the person who built the place was, to have put to many stairs. It had taken her a good twenty minutes to reach the top, and when she did, she nearly toppled over. Of course, a dancer was trained to be balance, so she continued on, but pondered about why she was here. She didn't want to be here, she missed her family, she missed her home; that was the only interaction she really knew. Since her mood swings oftened scared any potential friends away; along with her being the all-powerful daugter of the Hoshimura clan, she merely sighed. But, she was here for the sake of her father, she had to do her duty.

Her mood lightened up, the light coming through the windows brightened up her spirits, and she enjoyed walking through this hall. She was headed for the door that she assumed was the entrance to the classroom, but she quickly lost herself in the dazy lighting. But, she only stopped when she felt a soft nudge to her leg, looking down it was Kana, and her muzzle pointed to where her counterpart, Jin stood, it was by the door. With a soft smile, she adjusted the obi to her royal blue kimono, before she reached out a hand to let herself in. As she stepped into the room, her two wolves followed, and her eye instantly found the teacher's desk. And adjacent to it, was the notice board. And it seemed out of nowhere, a parchment appeared rolled up in her hand. Shina glided towards the notice board, where with one motion, she pinned up her application, before she floated back towards the way she came from. Surveying the whole room, she took a moment to memorize how things were, before she opened the door once more and closed, she would make it back to her class room.

As a remnant, the paper fluttered a bit on the board, the bottom slightly curled still, but the writing visible.

Application

-An explanation as to why Charms and Magical Spells interests you.:
Charms and magical spells interest me, because despite my natural ability to manipulate fire and ice, I'd like to broaden my knowledge on ways to defend myself, or things to use in convenience. I don't want to be restricted to lighting fires, or turn a pond into ice; though I do enjoy that, I know I have more things to learn. That is why I was sent to this academy, to learn, and being part of a clan that is magically inclined, I would think I am not only obliged but drawn to learn more charms and spells.

-A sample post, so I may assess your ability in roleplay:

Staring at her hand for only a moment, a flicker was reflected off the pupil of Shina's eyes. This meant two things; she was in a joviant mood and she had started an ember. A small flame flickered in the palm of her hand, licking at the oxygen around it. A small playful giggle escaped her lips, as the fire started to dance, and rose to a greater height. It danced with a child-like energy, quick indecisive jerks, instead of a slow, mellow burn. Taking her free hand, Shina moved it towards the side of the flame, causing it to bend. And with a small snicker, she rolled the firey dancing creature into a ball. And after using her hands to manipulatively knead the flame, she compressed it. And without warning, she threw it into the open air. Where it burst into a small show of sparks. Shina's smile was wide now, but she could already feel the affects of her little trick. She had been tiring herself out today, training with Jin and Kana, trying to control her elements better. She sighed, and collapsed onto the earth, falling back, expecting a rough, grassy texture, but was met with soft, furry coat. Turning her head to inspect what it was, she found Kana laying on her side, and Jin taking his place beside his mistress. "Oh, poor things. Are you tired too?" this earned her a gentle and loving nuzzle from Jin, and a playful swat of a tail from Kana. Shina let her eye lids droop, and finally cover her deep violet eyes (which she often had confused with the color of onyx), so as she drifted into a day dream.

-A short answer to each of these questions:
1. What kinds of spells do you wish to learn?
Healing spells; anything that would help the body. Binding spells, and contract spells.
2. What do you intend to do with what you learn here? Possibly to take it home, and use it for the better of my clan.
3. What are the goals that you wish to accomplish in this class? To not limit myself to elements or illusions, but of spells that would be in use for everyday life.

At the bottom right-hand corner, a seal was placed. In a vibrant pink color, was Shina's seal; her name in Kanji and a small print of a cherry blossom.

Colu took his time up the stairs, admiring what he saw, despite his discomfort. The stairs obviously hadn’t been made to accommodate the heftier giant, so he had been forced to shimmy sliding his feet sideways. Colu could only hope he wouldn’t get caught in the stair well with someone else, or it might become fairly cramped. This was the first time he had ever explored this area of the school, let alone one of the few times he had ever left his home. Everything was so new. He reaches into his red tunic to pull out a slip of parchment and looks it over carefully to make sure he hadn’t missed anything. His chubby finger traces over his application and he slowly reads back his replies.

Application
-An explanation as to why Charms and Magical Spells interests you.
As a member of faculty you are most likely aware of the student that has been sent as an emissary for those of giant-kind. And being the representative for my people I want to set an example and dispel any misconceptions those of other races may have of us. It is my wish to be able to study in all areas of magic to broaden my mind, as well to share my knowledge with others.
-A sample post, so I may assess your ability in roleplay.
With a heavy grunt, Colu pushed off the ground again, the weight on his back getting no lighter. He returned to his ready position bending his arms as he had before and got ready for another push-up. With another grunt he managed to spit out "One... Hundred..." in his native tongue before collapsing under the pressure of the two hundred kilogram weight on his back. He reached to loosen the strap that held it in place, yearning to get it off as soon as possible. With a gentle thud, and a relieved sigh, it rolled from Colu's aching back onto the ground. Forcing himself back up to his feet he propped himself up against the weight to catch his breath before stumbling off to his hut in the village proper. He could hear the daily chatter of his neighbors and smiled sincerely to all he made eye contact with. Even if he was exhausted to the point that he was, there was no excuse of rudeness.

He pushed open the door of his home and quickly went for the bucket of water he kept next to the door. Dropping to his knees, he dipped his large hands into the barrel-sized bucket and lifted them out. In a swift motion he splashed the contents of his palms into his face a few times before stopping to looking into the bucket and catch his breath. His hair was dried out and tangled as always and his skin was still a tawny brown. Feeling a little better after that workout Colu decided it was no better time to begin studying. He returned to a standing position and looked around his little one room house. It was small, made of the dried grass that could be found in the canyon, but it was mainly piled against a large pile of rock. He quickly found his desk and looked at what he had been studying last. To his dismay it Athear Common, the language that would be spoken at the Academy. With a simple shrug he seated himself and began pouring over his books.

-A short answer to each of these questions:
1. What kinds of spells do you wish to learn?
Any and all spells the teacher is willing to bestow upon me.
2. What do you intend to do with what you learn here?
For the betterment of my mind, as well as that of my tribe.
3. What are the goals that you wish to accomplish in this class?
To understand and expand on the topics covered in class and improve my magical ability

With a nervous grimace he returns his application to his tunic and sighs. He had spent a few hours trying to convey his thoughts properly from his giant language, but he was still fairly unsure he had gotten everything he wanted to across. "I hope I am accepted," he mumbles to himself. "Now that I think about it, I probably should have applied to Tongues first." Finally reaching the top of the staircase, he enters into the hall and his mouth falls open in awe. The architecture of the Academy was amazing in general, but the details in this hall made Colu think that the Headmaster may have employed giants in certain areas. His fingers trace over the carving of the door before letting himself in. Still getting used to the school, Colu didn't duck low enough to stop from hitting his head against the top of the stairs. Quickly finding the notice board, he pins his application to it and takes a few steps back. "I really hope I'm accepted," he twlls himself. "Well, I guess I better go fill out a few more applications." And with that, he turns to the door and heads for the stairs and the other classrooms.

Evy holds her skirts up as she, being in excellent physical condition, fairly sprints up the first two flights of stairs, and slows to a jog on the third. Wow, this is tiring even for me, she thinks. She smooths her pastel green dress, rechecks her application, then walks into the classroom. She immediately sees the message board, and tacks her form up next to the other forms and notices.

The form reads, following her name, Evelyn Jade:

-An explanation as to why Charms and Magical Spells interests you.
I am interested in the Charms and Magical Spells class because I have discovered a small talent for such arts, and wish to improve myself. I feel that it is important to learn anything I can to better my mind and my skills.

-A sample post, so I may assess your ability in roleplay.
The small elf breathed hard as she completed her final run around her home. She checked an hourglass that sat beside the front door.
Exellent, she thought, a new record! She had always enjoyed her daily running, as it was an efficient way to excercise, and it was also fun. She walked around for a few minutes, drinking from a water canteen that she had carried outside.
Just then, a loud cry of "EVY!" could be heard from inside the house. Evy sighed, and entered her home. "Yes, mother?" she inquired as she stepped into the sitting room.
Her mother, an elf not much taller than her daughter, smiled and said, "It is time for you to receive your education. There are a variety of magic classes at the Academy up on the hill. I want you to go there because I cannot teach you any more, and you have such talent."
Evy stood speechless. After a while a grin spread upon her narrow face as she raced to hug her mother. "Thank you, mother!" she exclaimed. She immediately raced to her room to wash herself and put on more suitable clothing for a school setting.
Her mother accompanied Evy to the gates. There they embraced once again, and Evy entered the school to begin her education.

-A short answer to each of these questions:
1. What kinds of spells do you wish to learn?
I am especially interested in healing magics, but I would like to learn all that I can.

2. What do you intend to do with what you learn here?
I intend to become a healer, if I can. I will also be glad to have a general knowledge of magics of all kinds.

3. What are the goals that you wish to accomplish in this class?
I wish to understand and to be capable of performing most, if not all, of the spells taught in this class.

Evy checks her words over one last time, then, satisfied, she looks around the classroom. A slender hand tracs the edges of the tables she passes en route to the libraries. A small frown came and went quickly; she is intimidated by the information these books must hold, but she feels confident that the teacher will explain everything as the lessons pass. She walks back out of the room and begins the long trek down the stairs, holding up the skirts of her dress so as not to trip.
