This is from an old post I did to have some fun with the SciFi weapon of the Klingons I seen an artical in Kung Fu magazine about it.

The sci fi show star trek came up with the klingons a warrior race there favored weapon being the sword of honor or bat leth.

A man practicing hung gar found it and is now useing it wing lam is seling one on there site.

This weapon is close to one and from what I have seen is used in a similar maner.

I got a batleth and love it

Dan Curry who invented the batleth based the batleth on the Chinese crescent huked weapons and also based the klingon style mok bara off of tae chi tae kwondo and muay thai the Korean Martial Arts Association has recognized it as the first new bladed weapon approved for use in a long time.

Does anyone have a batleth what are your thoughts on the weapon.

In this book he has made his weapon longer to make it more able to defend low blowes.

I wish I had a way to demonstrate some techniques against some one but I can't at the moment due to there being only me and my brother here in this cramped room.

the weapon can hook other weapons up and than attack as low as behind the knee or a stab to the side all in the same motion it can be griped in the midle to add reach which can be done fairly fast by simply slideing your hand down during a swing.

The moves are done in a fluid motion and rarly do you need to take your hands off of it to chang positions here in my pics I did a few time to let people see it from the other side.

its sort of like haveing an axe spear staff and sword all in one as for weight my batleth is about 4 lbs or so not realy that heavy.

I do not have any training with weapons I read books watch videos and use my martial arts training to help me understand weapons I have done lots of research on weapons and how they were used as a kid I loved weapons and armor and spent a lot of time looking through books on historic weapons from all over the world I have colected weapons since i was ten.

All though this is not a true martial arts weapon and this book and the people useing the weapon are acting as if they were Klingons this is ment to be a sirius look at a weapon most would normaly over look Chet Braun has taken a good look at the batleth and has found it to be worth the time and efort to come up with forms.

My first post about this with comments

I guess... I mean anything could be a weapon so why not this? Yea it could be a weapon but I think it's just merely for show.

Well this weapon was created by Dan Curry one of the guys who worked on Star Trek he suposidly took what he knew from his martial arts background to give the klingons a weapon that was usable but new. I know you can use one if its made well I have played around with mine for a wile and I think its kind of cool. the thing is is it realy that different from the other two weapons above.

There are people who are taking this SciFi weapon seriously most of them look like idiots using it though they don't have much understanding of weapons. This Hung Gar guy played around and came up with his own ideas on how it should be used and its not that bad. This weapon alows you to hook a weapon and hit with the other end wile the enemys weapon is being held off.

The only problem I have is blocking on the edge of the blade most blocks are on the midle part of the weapon. The Batleth I own is a cheap version the handels suck its not curved as well as it should be and its not bladed properly I would also like to have one as long as the guy from the book.

I would like to see some people go at it with the batleth against some other weapons and see just how good it is just for fun. This guy realy is using it and seems to like it so it can't be as bad as most people think but it is just a fantasy weapon.

If you look at the cop holding the weapon its the same one I own. England will be over run by Klingons run for your lives.

First the guns than the fantasy knives what next pencils? I got to go hide my lightsaber.

The concept of hooking a weapon seems interresting but the only thing is how you would use it in a fight or anything, I mean takeing a werid looking weapon that preferably big, into a street fight?

If I was going to be in a street fight I would use this and my .45.

I don't think people realy understand this weapon well I think people would understand better if they held a good one. The weapon is held in two hands and you strike with both ends like a staff and you thrust out like you would with a spear it reminds me a lot of bayonet style fighting. Its easy to block with and once you block it just naturally gives you the option of a strike or multiple strikes right from that block.

If you look at the pic above from the book right under Applications were he is blocking a staff you can see he can go and attack under her weapon or above it most of the blocks are like that you block in the midel and you have the points on the sides that you can attack with or if you hook a weapon the other end can still be used its almost like using two weapons at once. The midle handel gives you the ability to change from short to long ranges quikly the length of the weapon also offers a lot of protection you don't need to move a lot just to block an attack you didn't see coming.

There are some people using batleths and they have made some competitions. They use padded ones they made most of these people are not real good they will do things like hold it in one hand witch is just not done with the real thing most of these guys most likely don't have any training they do things you just can't do with a weapon that size.

Wow... them brits sure are picky about their weapons! I laughed out loud when I read that article. That's one good thing about America, we still have the right to defend ourselves.

I think they are going to far it's a damn sword from a tv show that most likely no one would actualy use on any one. I can stabb some one with a pencil or other such things that would normaly go unnoticed by a common person. I have made weapons from child hood I made some things that made most adults uncomfertible I have always been into weapons and fighting I was reading military manuals in grade school and was sent to the office my parents were just happy I was starting to read I hated to read.

I played around with friends doing passing stabbs and sneaking up and using sentry removal techniques on them just fulling around. One day this dude was saying some crap about how I was full of s**t and didn't know any thing. That whole day every chance I got I did things to him the first was I took a rolled up news paper and I put a shiv I made into it with some of the paper cut out of it the thing would colaps if it was pushed into any thing.

I walked by and stuck him in the kidney with the other end and as he turned I said thats one. I stabbed it into a box snaped it off and got rid of it. I did s**t like that to him all day he started to avoid me so it got harder to get him but in all I could have killed him around 10 times at least that day.

I never realy intended to ever do these things to any one but most feel that I am nuts and that I would kill some one. I have a bad rep here in my town I went through school always being treated as a monster and I was called psycho by almost every one. That kind of thing got me labeled as antisocial I had to keep up this image just to keep every one that wanted to hurt me away they were scared of me scared of there own lie.

My violent nature never helped much but people blew it out of proportion and I let some of it happen so I guess I can blame my self for some of that.

Back to knives I could kill some one with a stick, rock, sock, shirt any form of clothing most likely. There own body why the heck do I need a weapon.
