Split Personality
User Image Umo walked in a slow stupor. How could hunting have been so difficult? He blinked his crimson eyes slowly as the rain fell hard upon his back. It had begun to pour steadily for a few hours now; and he had traveled for a distance; like he used too when he was young. He had promised he would bring back something other than frogs; which Kikawaida; his mate, was used too so much. He looked solemly in all directions, hoping that a tree or perhaps a cave could shelther his bulk.. He shook, only succeeding in sending more droplets in random directions rather than down. If only he had stayed at the swamps with Kika and Kinamasi; his daughter. Perhaps the rain would end?

He had always disliked water... he remembered when he had started staying at the swamplands part time with his mate. He had done a rather embarasing tip-toed walk when he went through the marshy swamplands. Now, he trudged through it... though he still knew not how to swim. He prefered to keep his head dry, but now with his dark mane in his eyes; he decided he hated water; for this time being. He tredged on; his tail hanging heavily.

demon_pachabel
User Image Rain brought less then dampened spirits to another lion whom trudged the roads, though the young Yua'lopoka continually paused now and then, looked up towards the sky for a moment, as if looking for something, before crinkling his nose again and shaking his head. From a glance, one would almost think he was having a conversation with himself.

Almost.

It wasn't like he was an insane lion whom talked and 'attacked' entities that no other entities besides himself was able to see.. right? However, that was indeed the case. Yua.. had indeed a 'knack' for being insane, in that he was a firm believer that he was able to see (and furthermore; SPEAK to) the spirits of those whom had passed on ahead to their next existance. But not all whom he had met had the same 'knack' of such things, and it left him with the label of "He speaks nonsense" back home.

However, this was not on his mind at the moment as he trudged through the damp grasses of the savannah. In fact, he was convinced right then that if he could perhaps get it to somehow STOP. FREAKING. RAINING. the ghost ( yes, that imagined up one right there... ) would stop looming over his head. But as well as such.... his ability to imagine up the spirit above his head was the only 'ability' he had. No 'magical staff of weather' to wave about and stop the heavens above from pouring down their liquid of spiritual annoyance.

Clicking his tongue a bit, the young adolescent sat himself down and crinkled his nose again at the space over his shoulder. ".......... You make me wish it would stop raining." he grumbled, un-aware that another nearby, might take it was a comment made towards him.

Split Personality
Umo kicked his back foot restlessly; flinging mud in all directions. Good thing he was already a dark color in the first place. Kikaiwaida would make him wash before she'd let him lay beside her and Kina. At least he had this thought to brighten the already dampened mood the rain fell down upon his head. He snorted his nose; annoyed by his mane that clung to him... annoyed by this rain... annoyed. He almost wished he hadn't gone. He hadn't seen a single prey... he was getting sore...

and some stranger was talking. He turned his head to see anouther wet-bed-raggled looking male alone... who kept giving looks over his shoulder. He blinked his eyes individually. The rain water was running down one side of his face. To think; the only time these lands really rained. Umo had to be out. He shook his mane; sending anouther awkward shower everywhere. "Wh-what?" He said startled, quietly to himself before saying louder; hopefully so the other would hear over the rain. "What are you talking about?" he asked, steping sideways so his side was to the stranger.

demon_pachabel
It seemed as soon as the other lion had caught his words, Yua had registered that in all the dark air around him, there was indeed a darkly colored lion in his presence... and the quip at the ghost had totally just gone as a comment at him, as opposed to it's proper target AKA Casper over there.

Making a small expression that spelt distaste, if anything, he eyed Umo suspiciously, as if looking for something, before grinning like a cub who'd just found a storage of chase-able critters whom scattered on sight, and they were torn between which to follow. Rising up, he trotted over to the other lion, his ears flattening back against his mane, as a look of consideration came over his face.

"I knew it... all this rain'll make the spirits latch to the closest warm body.." he announced, lifting a paw and pointing to the air around the elder lion, as if pointing at something that, apparently, he was supposed to see.

"Y'see 'em? They're gonna stick t'you until it stops raining..." he explained, then pointed the same paw over his own shoulder in a matter-of-fact way. "I have my own straggler following me..." again, the crusty look over his shoulder at the empty space that was now, apparently, inhabited by a being of the other-side.

Split Personality
Umo took a moment to watch this young male. just as curious as the stranger was. He blinked his crimson eyes; looking rather irritatedly at a chunk of mane that was hanging in his face. He swung his head jerkingly, making the irritiating mane move. He blinked slowly. Why was that fellow looking all around himself like there were birds floating around him. He looked around himself curiously; looking over at the stranger. What the heck. Spirits?

"What do you mean 'latch too the closest warm body?' He asked, looking left then right with a confused look on his face. He had heard Kikawaida; his mate talk to and about the spirits... but... she never really dotted on them. He blinked again and shook his head. Darn this rain. He shook again; only to watch his fur fall back into its slick state.

"I do not see them." He said flatly; not because he was rude but because he spoke in Monotone [[Completly forgot... so just pretend he has been all along. XD My bad]]. He looked around again, his eyebrow arched. "Someone is following you?" He asked; not helping but notice the odd markings this stranger had.

demon_pachabel
Yua made a slight face at the repeated actions the other made as he shook his head, attempting to get the water out of his fur. However, Umo's actions instead worked rather charmingly in only getting the already soaked boy furtherly dampened. Using his 'pointer paw' to brush back the top of his mane, he made an expression somewhat akin to 'oh, so you're one of THOSE lions'.

"I mean it how it sounds... many beings out in the rain feel cold or down because spirits swarm them in an attempt to get warmth from their body." he explained, placing his paw down again, before turning and starting a walk around the muddy and wet rogue, his expression one of interest, as indeed, Yua wasn't the only one with anything 'exceptional' about his appearence, and the almost... plain appearence of this one seemed to be something he'd never seen before.

Stopping in front of him, Yua grinned widely, as everything he said made perfect sense to him, and as any good little insane lion-boy would do, he believed that as well, this stranger would make the same sense of his mince-meat words.

"Not all who look will see them... I've learned that much, at least..." he commented, nodding, before jerking a paw at the empty space he kept looking at. "Right there is another spirit of the same sort that swarms even you now... you may not see him.. but he's giving me a funny look." As if to emphasize this, Yua mimicked this 'look' he was apparently getting.

"Odds ones, they are.."

Split Personality
Umo could not help but feel like this youngster was... acting as though he were better than himself. Though that was absurd; since one nor the other lion was higher than each other. He blinked slowly, not sure if he should be frightened by what this boy was saying about spirits. His tail twitched flicking water behind himself. He did not like how this stranger was circling him; he could feel the fur on his back rise against the cold rain... only to fall down again at the lions cheesy grin. "Well, I see nothing... but you know whats odd. My mate speaks of Spirits often. You almost sound like her... only she speaks diffrently."

He curled his tail around his back, flicking the tip as he shook his head less forcefully so that he would not get water on the other; with his funky mane and odd markings. Course, Umo had a few swirl patterns but this strangers entire appearance was startling.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 24, 2006 7:17 pm

Yua didn't mean to seem full of himself, and in fact, would have admittedly apologized for acting in such a way if it had been pointed out to him. However, he couldn't help but comment on Umo's mention of his mate's ability to 'see' the spirits that Yua spoke of.

With a nod, he commented lightly; "She sounds like a very blessed being."

It wasn't meant to be a comment that would take offence either, as such a thought passing into his mind made him wince a bit, before he shrugged innocently and rose up again, turning to walk towards the same place he had came from, but not moving from his position.

"Perhaps you would like to find a place to get out of the rain?" he suggested innocently, tail flicking ever so lightly, before he grinned.

"Unless you were headed somewhere in particulare.. I myself find that I will not find my own hunt anytime soon, thus getting out of this weather might be for the better of all involved, no?"

Umo had to admitl he was surprised that he had met someone who knew of spirits. He loved Kikawaida dearly but he could not help but sometimes wonder if these spirits exsisted... but this youngster could see them? He could not help but to look over his shoulder. "She is very blessed. She speaks in whispers and has great faith in the spirits. They were all she had when she was alone in the swamps. Her mother died saving her... so perhaps the Spirits took pity on her and let her hear them." He said, his voice gruff and flat. Even though Kika, his mate; was convinced their child had a limp because of the spirits; and because they did not like that she left and found Umo. Sometimes, he wondered if she was true.

He twitched his shoulders; feeling the rain collected between his shoulder blades fall too the ground. He sniffed his nose; looking to the youngster with a more.. pleasent look. "I would appreciate that dearly. I am not used to water in this amount." He said, casting a shady look upwards before looking back down; his bangs hanging once again in his face. "I was hunting but I can not see anything very well in this rain. I think I will give it a rest. I would appreaciate shelter though. I do not want to be a burden."
PostPosted: Tue Jul 25, 2006 12:03 pm

Yua smiled a bit, nodding and bowing his head slightly to the elder lion, as a show of his repect. In his mind, one whom could accept to spirits presence, as opposed to denying it completely, was one that he could respect as one of his own; a friend.

"Something one willingly takes upon themself is not a burden, stranger." he chimed in reply, before pausing again, poking himself in the forehead with his handy 'point at stuff' paw, and adding on the end;

"I apologize for my continued rudeness," a pause and another bow of the head. "I am Yua'Lopoka Mila of the Ela'wadiyi......Er.. or ..." He paused and thought about that for a moment, before waving a paw. "Forget that. I'm Yua the rogue."

Bah.. he was gonna have to get used to not being part of his pride anymore, and it was really starting to put a damp on his introductions to others as he'd confuse them with a lot of long words, before shortening the entire thing. Bah~!

Once again eyeing the rain, Yua heaved a sigh, then turning back towards where he was going. "It's not much... but there's a rocky-overcrop over in this direction that makes for good shelter to keep out of the rain.. I'd say not too many would be able to fit in it.. but it's enough for two hunting males like ourselves, no?"

Umo shook his head slowly with a smile; because as the youngster grew respect for himself, he grew more for him. He had listened to Kikawaida's speakings of spirits and her faith in them. He had also taken on some faith in them... his first time being when his daughter was born and he could no see her for quite a bit of time. That was a difficult time. He Shook his mane uncomfortably; his mane flat against his skull. "Sometimes I even think the Spirits speak to me... but it just might be the wind. I can feel their presence when I sleep... I think." He said thoughtfully, though his voice was montone.

"No need to apologise young Yua... you did nothing to upset me" he said, his left eye shut while he tried to understand the jumbled up sentance or word that Yua had said he was from; before he was a rouge. "I am Umo from the Kusini Mwenzi lands... though I am also apart of hte Swamp Pride in a way. I spend my time between the two. My mate and daughter are of them..." He said, twitching his shoulder blades.

"I would appreaciate that greatly Yua, thank you." he said with a kind smile, turning and walking up beside the male. "Well it is only me... and I do not take much room up when I try."

Quirking a brow, Yua chuckled a bit, before starting to walk off in the direction he'd been meaning to since mention of getting out of the rain had even began. "Sounds charming... if you enjoy having such a life, stranger...." Yes.. Yua was only going to call Umo that until he got an actual name out of him.

Stepping lightly, the rogue seemed to check carefully about to see if any more of his 'stragglers' was stalking about for him, before jogging a few steps out into the open and nodding towards the same structure he'd spoken of earlier, tail flicking to one side, and sending a slight spray of moisture in the same direction.

"I do not think you would take so much space, even when I myself am so small in size in comparison to your physique of muscle..." As that -was- that Umo was seemingly composed of off glance to the 'shaman'.

Jogging ahead, Yua entered the shelter, shaking out his own fur, before sitting down to one side, tail flicking around his paws as he stared out at the tears the heavens shed upon the lands.

".. It's been a while since it's rained like this.."

Umo followed Yua with a concious mind. He was... not nervous but a bit intruged by this stranger. He kept his head lowered and his chin down to help keep some of hte rain from invading his eyesight. He did however keep his head shaking up; until rain ran into his ears and he shook his head frantically with a moan. "I enjoy it very much. I never had a life before... so this is all new to me." He said, his voice monotone as ever; though his facial expression was a pleasent. one.

The way that his 'spirit seer' was looking about, Umo could not but help to look around himself with a curious red eye. So, this Yua could see the spirits? He wonderd what they looked like, but he would ask that later. He simply followed the boy towards the structure.

He was pleased with the comment about his size. Though it was muscle; he was sure there was a bit of fat hidden amongst his fine tuning. He shook himself upon entering the cave like place; happy to be out of the direct rain. he did not care if his toes got wet. He also sat down; looking also out into the rain with one eye; due to the other being covered by mane. "It has been a long time. I wonder what caused the skys to be so distraught?" He said; sniffing his nose.

He loved hte smell of rain.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 25, 2006 7:22 pm

Yua considered Umo's first statement, before nodding. "I guess that would lead one to live a life that may not be the most convinient, in the name of happiness. You are dedicated. I respect that, Umo." he purred complimentary, while staring out at the rain.

Pausing mid-thought, he looked to his companion and smirked a bit, leaning back away from the bad weather to heave a sigh. "Perhaps the sky is crying to us new life for the coming season.." he suggested, sounding rather hopeful. Afterall.. hunting in the hot season wasn't exactly appealing to the young-adult, whom crinkled his nose at the thought.

"Though maybe to wish such fortune is too brash of me, and will bring us bad luck... I would hope not.." he murmured sadly, before looking up at the elder lion and cracking a grin. "So tell me more about youreself... it intrigues me..."

Umo looked to Yua and smiled at his nod. His life had not been the most conveiniant.. and still wasn't. How badly did he feel when he was walking back and forth between his 'two' prides; when his true was neglected. When Kina was grown, perhaps that would change. He sniffed the air's heavy scent. "The life I have led and still am can be very hectic. I barely have a pride postion really, I am always away frrom mine." He said, looking down sheepishly. He did feel regretful of that but he Loved Kika so much, that he was willing to give up the comfortable pride life that he not to long ago did not desire.

Umo looked upwards, his mane falling back out of his face. He blinked up towards the sky; watching the patterns that rain fell down in. He sighed, turning his head to look thoughfully over at hte youngster. "Rain always seems to get the season started. With the foaling and such. It brings new life more often than takes it."

"I do not think it will hinder the good things that will come by you speaking of them. I have had enough bad luck not fulfilling the hunt I promised to my mate." He said, looking down at hte ground of hte shelter. "Well, my name... means Torment. When I was young, my way of speaking was thoght to be odd and thus I was teased. Upon my hunting day (the day he could hunt on his own) I ran off and gave myself a new name; a name that would remind me how horrid a pride could be... But look at me now. I actualy like my pride now." He added with a smile.
PostPosted: Wed Jul 26, 2006 3:14 pm

Looking over to Umo, Yua frowned. "... I see we have that much in common..... running from a pride and having new names....." he stated sadly, flicking his tail from around his paws, then heaving a sad sigh, his expression one of a lion whom was thinking deeply about something.

"... I was named Yua at birth. Yua Mila. 'He is tradition'. However..... it seemed as though I wasn't the cub my parents wanted me to be.." he frowned a bit, before looking over to Umo. "They didn't believe I could see the spirits.... thus I was adopted the full name of Yua'Lopoka Mila."

He crinkled his expression a bit, before translating again; "He speaks a tradition of nonsense." The rogue sighed a bit, before falling silent again. The thought...

was never pleasing to him. He'd never be 'pleased' by the memories of his pride ever again,

Umo looked to the youngster for a moment. Umo had gone from his pride and shouted back that his old name was not used anymore but his new name would help him remember his past. Keep your enemies closer indeed. "I see, so you left your pride as well. I have to say... I've never met a Lion was such... extravagent markings such as yourself." He said, giving a respectful nod though is voice was flat as can be. Umo cocked his head upon seeing young Yua in a thinking stance; and chose to sit quietly while he thought out what ever he was thinking. He didn't want to disturb the young male.

Umo listened to Yua explanation of how his name came to be... and he looked down with a sad look. "At least you remember your name..." he said, laying down slowly on the earth-dry floor. "I forgot mine long ago... though I do know it did not suit me either... well... neither does my current name." He said with a smile. His name meant Torment.. but his life was far from being tormented now.

"You do not speak 'a tradition of nonsense"... I believe you because I have been exposed to a religion that belives in them... and It has rubbed off on me. I do not recall anyone back at the swamps who could see spirits though." He said, flicking his tail.
PostPosted: Fri Jul 28, 2006 12:06 pm

Yua nodded. "My markings are nothing like those in my pride... we all bare extravagant markings, while are added to as we mature in the pride." Crinkling his nose, he added;

"I only left when I was a juvenile, so I do not bare the markings of my entire body as my people do. Nor will I in the future, should I decide to stay from my pride."

He looked to Umo, frowning a bit at the remention his name, before laughing a bit. "Does a name truely fit a being?" he inquired. "Mine never did, and I will always remember it, as it is still my name. I've given myself no new name. I find pride in my name, no matter how 'odd' it may be considered."

He chuckled a bit as the conversation went back to the pride that was mentioned to him, before nodding a bit.

"I see."

Umo looked at young Yua and had to take a moment to imagine him with 'more' markings upon his body. Umo had often marveled at his own markings and grew fond of the small 'v's under his eyes... but this Yua had more than himself already... but they would not? "really, so you will not get any more markings? Do i dare ask how that is possible? Do they just appear?" He asked, blihnking his crimson eyes for a moment, before nestling his head down on his front paws to watch the rain.

"True. I do know that my old name... my pride given name.... did go along with my personality... something about me being Monotone." He said, rubbing the side of his head against his paw. "All I know is that I was sick of the democracy my pride was running. I was tired of being at the bottom of the lineage because I spoke diffrently."

He turned and looked over at Yua. "And your pride did not believe you could see spirits; correct?" He asked; his tail curling around his back end and side.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 29, 2006 10:29 am

Yua, on the other paw, didn't have to put much more thoughts into what he'd look like if he bore the full bodied painted markings of his pride. No, he'd lived with it everyday, and it wasn't anything new to him anymore. Thus the question risen up by the other lion couldn't help but make him laugh. He restrained from laughing too loudly, however.

"No. We add markings with a paint." he motioned to his own shoulder and pointed at some of the markings there. "Only bare mention of this was there when I was born. Most cubs of my age bare even more then I have myself... it's... tradition, persay."

He frowned a bit, before heaving a sigh and shaking his head.

"But perhaps I put too much thought into the past. I just think that perhaps living with my family dulled the excitement of the world out here.."

Another sigh, before Yua flopped onto his stomach, his tail flicking back and forth behind him idly.

".. And what my pride believed, and what my family believed, I do not know..."

Umo looked at Yua with a confused look and yet an look of amazment. "Paint?! You mean it is paint?" He asked, looking at Yua's shoulder very interested like. He had never heard of such a thing, considering his back wasn't nearly as extravagent as Yua's it was almost close... okay not really. Just a bunch of marks. "That is very interseting. I am guessing it is a specail paint."

"Aih, and I thought too much into the future. I did not desire to have such a... indescent status all my life. Thus, I left and created my own I suppose." he said with a shrug. He rubbed his slightly dry face against his front paw. "I am a father... that is best and the most I ever wanted out of life." He said with a smile, looking down at his paws.

Umo decided to just leave Yua's family and such ot of the converstation for now. "So, you are on your own now huh? It is a good feeling.
