Sonya and Renewed ....... [x] Sonya - A gentle-natured teen, Sonya is amiable and open, and has a natural tendency to trust people, sometimes even against her better judgment. She believes all individuals are connected to one another through some universal means and thus has extraordinary empathy for others. (This does not mean she is immune from getting cross with people, but she is usually quick to forgive, especially if any mediating occurs.) While Sonya can seem overly formal when she first meets people, she's not what one would call dull. She has a subtle wit that surfaces whenever she feels comfortable with someone, and she often turns to tongue-in-cheek humor when she's feeling playful. As a child, Sonya had a natural tendency to be tentative and even flighty, but her willpower is now beginning to crystallize. While she doesn't mind being a follower, she has grown into a sense of passive-assertion that allows her to handle the duties of a leader as well. Renewed - Infamous for his position as 'the Tinkerbelle of daemons,' this pine martin creature is the exact opposite of his charge. A glowing, flittering ball of fluff with all the attitude of a prima donna, he looks upon others with disdain, indifference, or supreme indignation. His quickness to take offense makes him hard to befriend, but by playing into his vanity he can be made a useful if annoying ally. He views those few he is partial to as extensions of himself so he is quick to rise to their defense. While Renewed's peevishness generally keeps him alienated from others, he has an undeniable sense of curiosity (and, of course, drama) that leads to him always being a noticeable if not active part of a scene. While he generally prefers not to talk to anyone other than Sonya, his conversations with his Forgotten can be surprisingly caring and fluent. Ever since Sonya was a baby, Renewed has seen it as his mission to coddle and mother her. He's just so overprotective that things get out of hand some times. --- Powers: Apart from enhanced empathy, Sonya has the ability to heal by dispensing spirit energy out of her body and into someone else's. This ability is limited depending on Sonya's stamina as any life force she gives to someone else racks up a deficit for herself. Anything more than a minor cut or scrape causes her pain to heal, and if someone's injuries are significant, as she gives up her energy to heal another's trauma, similar wounds may begin to spring up on her own body. This power is potentially dangerous as Sonya must judge when to stop each time and must maintain enough control over the mechanism to be able to call the process to a halt if her own body takes too much damage.

Posting Order ....... [x] Posting Order Cassiopeia_starkitten Sarielle Jack Takahashi There will be a fourty-eight hour (2 days) period of leeway once it's your turn but if you do not respond within that time, people will be allowed to post again. I hope this doesn't happen often but it's necessary to maintain flow and fairness. 3nodding

Special Posts ....... [x] Because this is a contest and the judges are looking at roleplay skill, character concept and creativity, I want everyone to have at least a couple chances during this challenge to have their concept character take control of a situation. To better help this along, some of my posts containing problems brought about by the setting and the House will have special tags at the bottom of them. This section is to explain the meanings of these special posts. Targeted Problem Solving - (Insert Name Here)This means that I have created a situation in the post that needs to be resolved somehow, and that I have either done it with a certain character in mind, or would like in particular to see a certain character try to solve the problem. If the character I've highlighted is not your own, you are still welcome to respond, in fact, you are expected to, but if you come before this character in the posting order, I'd like you to take on a more passive role in solving the problem. (Note: Saying "Hey, ____! How about you use your telekinetic powers to turn on that sink across the room and put out this fire in front of us?" is NOT taking a passive role. Let the role-player be creative on their own!) Problem Solving - Free For AllThe early bird gets the worm! Similarly to the type of post mentioned above, there will be a specific problem in my post that will need to be solved. However, this is first-come first-served. The first person to post's character can either take the problem on themselves or voice suggested solutions to the other characters. Here would be the place to say "Hey, ____! How about you use your telekinetic powers to turn on that sink across the room and put out this fire in front of us?" and get kudos for your insight. ***This is the ONLY situation where post order procedures are put aside. At the end of a Free For All, the post order resumes its natural flow. Problem Solving - Roll of the DiceFor a more general problem or situation. The person rolled will have dibs, and the process will continue as if it was targeted for them, with other characters preferably Targeted Plot Loop/Device - (Insert Name Here)A plot loop or side-story specifically targeted for a certain character. Since these can be so diverse special instructions will follow each one. Plot Loop/Device - Roll of the DiceSimilar to above, but more general. A randomly rolled character will have a chance to do something that could possible influence the plot and/or other characters. (Eg. "A magical genie appears before (rolled character) and says "I'll give you three wishes..." In a situation like this you must still ask if you want to do something significant to someone's character.) The timeliness of completions of Special Posts will dictate how many appear throughout the challenge. I won't expect you to respond immediately, but if we seem to lag because of Special Posts I will not use them frequently.
Hopefully this isn't TOO confusing. wink

Roleplay Hints ....... [x] 1. No godmoding. Please. If you want to do something to another's character you must ask ahead of time. If you're attempting to do something to another's character in RP, use open ended actions. Bad: "He punched him in the face, breaking his nose" Good: "He swung a punch towards the other's face, hoping it would connect--" and if you must, "--knowing that if his fist met with its current momentum the blow could very well break the boy's nose." This way, the character's owner can still ultimately decide if their character gets hit or not. 2. Remember, this is a roleplay contest and the quality of your writing will be under scrutiny. Even in the most mundane of posts, show off your style! (Not to say you should steroid your posts with sentences of little substance. Bigger is not always better. If can say a lot in a way that flows easily, by all means say it, but if you can't, don't cram in too much fluff/lint. It's frustrating to become lost in a post that wanders all over the place.) 3. Spelling and grammar will help you out here. How easy is it to type a post up in Word and letting the spellcheck do it's thing? (If you're worried about autoformated quotation marks and apostrophes on Gaia, you can turn them off! Open up Word, go up to Tools --> AutoCorrect --> Autoformat as you Type and turn off smartquotes and symbols.) 4. Stay true to your character's physical abilities. I know, it's tempting to have your character able to do anything as long as they really give it their all, but it just doesn't work that way. Sonya couldn't kick down a heavy wood door if her life depended on it. Remember your stats. 5. Get those creative juices flowing! Surprise me with your insight and problem solving! The more interesting your posts are to read, the more they'll catch the judges' attention, and the more points you'll rack up! 6. Have fun. Get into the RP and don't stress too much about the results. If you find yourself unable to reply to a post for fear that your writing won't be good enough, try to lower your stress level by just pounding out the bare minimum. There are no penalties for short posts! And believe me, not every post can be one of those long detailed monsters. If there's not much to reply to, don't sweat it on the length. Don't forget, this is all about having a great time. biggrin One last disclaimer: I'm going to do my best to respond in an effecient and timely way, but if my writing in a post is lacking for some reason that does not mean you should step down the quality of your own RP. I want to give you guys as many chances to respond as possible, so I'll tell you in advance, if I'm busy or am going out somewhere I may write a rushed post rather than waiting until I have a consistent block of time to make a good one. If you encounter one of these monsters, don't panic! XD Just respond as if nothing were out of the ordinary. Remember, you are allowed to edit your posts until the competition is over, but please don't abuse this power. It's one thing to edit out typos or put in an extra sentence where there's a hole, but quite another to add another three paragraphs! Also, obviously, when editing a post you must take into context how others have replied. You can't change the actual content, otherwise it wouldn't make sense anymore!
