Is teh Ebbers full of s**t for posting this?
O'course not. This is badass, girl!
Sort of. I doubt this will work.
Well... yeah. Pro-choicers are our natural enemies, and need to be treated as such.

Three pro-lifers, one "in-between-er" and one pro-choicer created something that could be, potentially, a huge factor in how we see pro-choicers, and how they see us, here on Gaia.

A thread, that could, if all works out well, become a guild.

Master Kaiser, Devin K. Truessence, ThePeerOrlando, I.Am, and myself have all agreed to put together a little community-oriented organization for consenting pro-choicers and pro-lifers of either guild.

This is not a place for intelligent debate, it is not a place to bash others, and this is not a place to sharpen knives, load guns, or anything of that nature.

This is a place to learn from each other, share common bonds, and maybe even befriend other people who think differently than we do.

Now, I understand that not all of you are going to be interested in joining this group. I understand that not all of the pro-choicers are going to agree with this either.

That's fine; you're not obligated to join. At all. This is not a mandatory option, but recommended. How much harm can be done?

And believe me. If any pro-choicers out there think like I do, and want to befriend people of many different beliefs (I think Vivnox is an excellent example. I hope she joins as well.) then I doubt there will be any trouble, as long as we conduct ourselves in the respectful fashion we're all familiar with.

So, if you're willing to learn from some pro-choicers, get to know them a little better, and maybe even befriend a few, PM me, and I'll put you on the list.

P.S. I think I can convince Peer to do the same in the Pro-Choicer Guild.

Eh....It's noble idea. I think the odds are very against it working but I'll sleep on it.

I don't know if there is much more I can learn about the pro-choice stance. I've learned enough to the point where my position on the issue has been modified a bit since I first got all activist in high school. That isn't to say that I'm not willing to learn. There's just that it's been a loooooong time since I've learned anything that was both new and thought provoking.

As far as being friends and getting beyond the differences goes, it's not that I can't be friends with pro-choicers. I can easily. It's not a big deal. The reason for that is because we focus our attention on other things. We don't really talk about abortion. We talk about hobbies, school, work, what you did last weekend...stuff like that. There's more to a person then their stance on abortion.

But as long as the topic is Abortion, that's the only way we're gonna see each other because we're not going to discuss anything else.

That's the thing: I don't think that the topic should be abortion, except in, perhaps, very limited situations. This is -not not not not not- another debate guild. Far from it. And if we bring two opposing groups from the abortion debate in and talk about abortion, that's all it will become.

The purpose of this guild is to show us other things, outside of abortion, in which we have simularities. It's supposed to show both sides that there's more to the people on the other side then "Pro-Life/Pro-Choice."

May I bear your online children, I.Am?

xd

But I.Am's right. The point of the thread is not to debate, not to disccuss abortion, rights to life or choice, or anything of that nature.

Just our lives, minus abortion, and its issues altogether.

It's a way to shed aside the abortion issue, and well learn about eachother. This is in hopes of disolving this long built up emtional and ideological barrier between the sides, so we can sit at a table and debate civilly.

It isn't about buddy-buddy, it is about being able to debate civilly.

heart Of course! Although, I think Kate might have dibs. ninja Then again, her boy scares me, so maybe I'm safer with you. o.o

@Kaiser: At a different table, right? No debating at the "learning about each other" table. As they say, don't s**t where you eat, pardon the French. 3nodding Or don't pardon the French, as you see fit, they are annoying little gits.

I must concur with Kaiser's statement.

Of course, the thread's purpose within itself is not to bring a new debate into Gaia, but to mentally and emotionally relax ourselves, so that we may debate in a civil manner, to prevent insulting others/being insulted by others.

Now, we know that there will always be differences. There will always be pro-lifers/pro-choicers that can't stand anyone from the other side, and don't respect them at all. And I don't think that anyone's going to change that.

Though, I have faith that there will always be more good than malice in most people, so, hopefully, those who do not comply with at least attempting to befriend someone who thinks differently will be the minority.

Noble idea, as someone said however the topic IS still abortion. It's called the "ro-choice/pro-life Alliance" meaning that it still centres around abortion as that's how we're each identifying ourselves. I get along with plenty pro-choicers in other guilds and in school.

The difference is that in other guilds and in school we're identified differently. In school I'm Miranda, president of the GSA, and the person that let's everyone draw on her and who rolls her eyes whenever people talk about drinking/drugs. They all know my stance but it's not how I'm identified.

In a guild specifically made for the point of going "Hey I'm pro-life, now let's be friends" you still identify as pro-life and you're still seen as such.

I'm in plenty "pro-choice/pro-life Alliance" guilds. Because every guild which isn't the "pro-life" or "pro-choice" guild is an alliance of both sides, as every guild will have members of each. However those guilds focus on a common interest or belief and not on the differences.

So sorry guys, I won't be joining.

Do I get a cookie if I'm the first to join? -hopeful- At any rate, I think it's a good idea. Can't hurt, might help, right? And if it does do more harm than good, then I'll quit. But I'll at least see how it works first. heart

Are you guys trying to raise funds for the guild? If so, I could get you one for real cheap. And I mean cheap. 3nodding
