Megatron2 had, in his possession, two golden disks. One was created by the aliens who made Earth, and the other was created by humans. Since Beast Wars takes place in the future (Maximals and Predicons being in the future but travel to ancient Earth through a Trans-warp hole) it was easy for both disks to exsist not being in human possession.
Anyway, the disk that was created by humans is actually a real disk and you can read up about it here. It's exactly the same disk too, which is cool. The one created by the aliens is fictional though, but still cool for story purposes.

Yup yup I already knew. It is a disk made from pure gold and etched on it information about our solar system and us. It's attached on the Voyager mission satellite. I think it is out of our solar system now travelling to some alien race who is suppose to decipher the images and build themselves a record player or something and then play back voice recordings and images. I saw some of them and man if I was the alien I would first terminate us cuz they weren't the best images in the world confused As for the recordings, they are all greetings in the different languages on the planet. Hope they don't misinterpret it into a battle cry confused

Back when the Voyager satellites were launched, the gold disk was heavily publicized by Carl Sagan and the rest of the scientific community. 3-2-1 Contact even played a snippet of the record for their episodes about Communication for their first season.

I think it's kind of funny that we slapped a golden disk on our satellite telling others about our planet, while at the same time the US government's policy is that if any such probe from another race came to Earth, we would not respond.

I remember many a year ago I saw a replica of the disk while I was...touring NASA and I was like 'That's the one from Beast Wars!'

Because the maximal elders sealed up most of the files from the Great War (Including the location of Earth), effectively severing ties. Even when Depth Charge came through there, his computer said "This area of space is off-limits, by command of the High Council."

While semi unrelated the Voyager probe is also the orign of the Borg in Star Trek
whoa wait a mintue..
In Star Trek lore it says that when the probe disappeared into a black hole it survived and was found by a race of living machines. I just realized the connection

I'm of the opinion that the golden disks are actually the first and second seasons of Flavor of Love on DVD. The Predacons stole it before the Maximals got to see who Flav picked on the second season finale, prompting the crew of the Axalon to go after them and get it back. The Beast Wars started when Megatron told Prime that he hoped New York won. Cheetor, who was rooting hardcore for Deelishus, said "oh no you di-int" and fired a shot, and the rest is history.
Coincidentally, Code of Hero was the result of Dinobot finishing the second disk before anybody else and finding out that New York wasn't picked. He was so distraught that he snapped and opened fire on the Predacons in a bid to end his suffering once and for all.
