THEY'D BETTER, DAMN IT. scream

I'm so excited about this. I love Snake too, but his appearance paves the way for Sonic's appearance which is what I've been waiting for since the N64 game. I really hope he does show up, teamed up with Tails.

From what I've heard, Miyamoto was asked about Sonic in SSBB, but he apparently only said that they've "talked about it". So nothing concrete either way, but I'm SO hoping that it turns out Sonic will be invited to the brawl like Snake was.

Agh, I'm so high on fanboysquee right now. whee

I remember that comment too! And the release date of SSBB is in 2007, which I believe leaves ample development time to put Sonic in there. whee Better yet, they oughta put in the redone Sonic. Standing at 5'10", he would be looking down at Mario. xd

I know, me too! xd Nintendo has just been pulling out all kinds of WIN this year. 8D

It's unlikely that Nintendo would spread paychecks across all of gaming, so as much as we want multiple franchises in there, I think Ninty are going to sit on it for now.

Apparently Hideo Kojima requested Snake be put in. Personally.

It generates hype, so everyone's in for it.

I do hope Sonic is in the game someday, but I doubt Brawl will be the one to shine the light.

Must say, seeing this makes me want my Wii today. It'll certainly be the first console I ever got on launch day.

Am I the only one who thinks Snake just doesn't belong in a Smash Bros. game? I mean, I know the series is supposed to be all-out wacky, but Snake just isn't....well, Nintendo-ish : p

Anyway, getting to the subject at hand, if someone as unrelated as Snake can get in, there's a far better chance of Sonic getting into the game one of these days.

Not sure what to think of a possible move layout would be like...I'd assume they'd make him the fastest character in the game (or at least, I'd hope so...). Of course, strength or some other trait would have to be sacrificed for this.

...Definitely excited about the game (mostly because I see Meta-Knight's in the game), though I do have a sour taste in mouth over Snake...

Well, I don't see why Snake wouldn't fit. Because he's a "mature" character? Doesn't work with games like Metroid Prime, Twilight Princess, Eternal Darkness, RE4, and I could probably go on. And he's been on Nintendo systems before. He originally started on the MSX but debuted in America on the NES.

And he's wackier than his games would lead people to believe. I mean, the cardboard box is just one thing. Don't forget about the ? over people's heads and alot of humor in the MGS games... mostly dirty humor, true, but also game humor, particularly near the end of MGS2.

As for Sonic, this is what I think his movelist could be:

B: Spin Dash. He curls into a ball, the longer the button is held the farther and faster he goes.
Smash B: Highspeed Tackle. He dashes into people head-first. If you charge it, then when it connects he can steal his opponent's pick-up.
Down B: Dizzy Spin. His move from Sonic the Fighters where he spins around his foe, but it's more like a Mario Tornado move where the enemy gets tossed in the air rather than just getting dizzy.
Up B: Chaos Control. A little cursor appears and you have about one second to steer it to where you want to teleport. While you're moving the cursor, you're open to attack and you'll still be falling in midair. When the move executes, Sonic will appear there instantly and attack anyone in close proximity with a spin attack.
Super Smash Attack: Super Sonic Light Speed Attack. Sonic uses the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic and then uses Light Speed Attack on his enemies. (Although, just having LSA would be fine, Super Sonic wouldn't be necessary, just cool to see.)

I was thinking more of this move layout:

B: Yup, agree with the Spin Dash. B alone in most cases makes a charge-up move, i.e. Link's arrows, DK's charge-up punch, Samus' charge shot... Oh, how about this: When charged enough, it'll turn into the LSA! Depending on how close in range the enemies are, he can target more than one, but the damage will be split up. It'll do a total of 30% to one enemy, 15% each to two, and 10% each to three.

B+Left/Right: Taking a page from Battle, Sonic Storm.

B+Up: I agree with Chaos Control, but I don't agree with the cursor thing. It should be like Zelda's Farore's Wind, where you have a split second to tilt the control stick in the direction you want to go.

B+Down: I agree with Dizzy Spin too. 3nodding

Super Smash Attack: That Super Sonic idea of yours is pretty good. But I was thinking, take it a step further and turn it into Super Sonic Overdrive! It'll begin by Sonic using the Chaos Emeralds to transform, then it'll play out like that Team Blast. Super Sonic summons his buddies to his side, they glow, and then charge at the enemies with Homing Attacks in blazing yellow streaks! Once the attack is over, Knuckles and Tails fly offscreen.

It's a way of including Knuckles and Tails without making them playable characters. blaugh

I think making moves for Sonic on Smash bros. would be wicked easy, because his moves are so standard for a game like smash bros. If I wanted it to be cheesy, I'd say for Sonic's up b he goes super, and dashes up. but honestly spindash should be the down b move, it's just how it has to be, though make it different from Jigglypuff's by making it more like Sonic's actual spin dash. I think for his down b Sonic pulls a Sonic battle and throws a ring upwards and forward, now if the ring hits someone, it does 6 to 8 points of damage, but if it lands on the ground it will stay there a few seconds and Sonic could over b again to light speed dash at it. For the standard b I'd say Sonic could do a fancy counter in which he jumps a foot off the ground and spins extremely fast, so if anyone attacks him they get sucked into the spin, spun around a bit and then tossed somewhere. Sonic would be so fun to play as.

Yes, I was initially thinking that the Spin Dash would be the B+Down move, but I want to see a moveset in him that kind of pulls out what he's got from the past. See, one classic move with a hint of Adventure, one Battle move, one Adventure 2 move, and one Fighters move. smile But that Ring-dash idea doesn't sound so bad either!

I really can't decide because those are all great ideas. xd It's nice to see people thinking about what Sonic can do, I have heard some folks say that Sonic doesn't have much besides speed and spin jumps and attacks. I mean, what? Don't they realize Sonic has had games outside the Genesis era?

Oh, an idea about Chaos Control. If you use it and aim it at an enemy, and they're within the teleportation range, Sonic would appear behind them and attack, while if he's using it for recovery he just reappears when it's done and does the "can't recover anymore" flashing.

I seriously doubt Nintendo would even put the RISK of an M rating for a Smash Bros. game. To be honest, I think the only reason Melee obtained a T rating was that, with the higher graphical quality, attacks just looked more brutal. : p

Despite Snake's more mature background, I think Nintendo's pretty bent on keeping him in line. We'll most likely see weapons like rocket-launchers, but nothing "gun-like" (but then what DO those laser blasters resemble? : P), as was stated at E3.

...Would be kinda funny to see little word balloons filled with symbols like "@#$*#@!!" above his head when he gets hit, though. ^^;

Oh, psh, you could see through Samus' suit if you gave her a good shockin' in the first game... :p

But anyway...getting back to the joygasmic possibilities of Sonic and co. appearing in a SSB game (which I'm thinking is an even greater chance, after reading a Wikipedia article, stating that two or three more third-party characters could be showing up)...How about stages?

I think Green Hill would just about be a given...It's where it all started for the blue blur, and I could just imagine Eggman passing periodically in his mace-thing-swinging pod as an environmental hazard.

I think the Death Egg would make an interesting stage as well, especially if elements like those gravity switches were to be in there...
