Hey there, and welcome! My name is Pukio and this is my oh so snazzy thread for my quest concerning Ghosts of the Past (or GotP). The Ghosts of the Past shop is owned and run by Kyrianna.
The shop is located in a wand shoppe, owned by Ianna. It revolves around the concept of giving a second chance to those beings who suffered a horrible death. All these beings must have some sort of magical inclination, seeing as the way they are reborn is through a spell that the witch Matilda cast before she herself was burned at the stake.
I am questing for the Ghost of a kelpie named Leith. You can find out more about Leith (and kelpies in general) in the second post.

This section of the thread with describe much about both Leith. No doubt this will be tweaked and toyed with numberous times before Leith actually comes into existance but...--well, you get the idea..:-----------------------------------------:. Name: LeithGender: MaleSpecies: KelpieAbilities: Leith has the uncanny ability to conceal himself in water. In his younger years, he's simply exceptionally good about keeping himself out of sight. Perhaps in time, however, he'll be able to harness the kelpie fae magic and become capable of the whole 'drown someone in four inches of standing water' thing. He also has a very strong sense of smell. While he does have the ability to shape shift into a horse like creature, he won't be able to hone the ability until much later in life. With the horse shape comes the ability to keep a rider on his back; somewhat akin to fly paper, perhaps?Information on Leith's previous life:Leith lived in the young year of 1692. Like all kelpies, he inhabited a small source of running water. His chosen home was a small stream a few miles from a farming community in the Scottish Highlands, somewhere between present day Achnasheen and Gruinard. While the distance from the core of the farming community was somewhat lengthy, it wasn't quite far enough to completly limit his human contact. As such, like all kelpies, Leith went on his merry way capturing unsuspecting humans and pulling them into his stream. Generally, he favored taking young boys in his horse form, simply because it was often the boys who were allowed to wander with the sheep. If a female ever presented herself near his stream, though, he jumped at the chance. When he couldn't find any human victims, Leith fed on sheep and cattle that had strayed to far from their flocks and herds.
Unfortunately, Leith eventually stumbled across the wrong prey. A young woman found her way to the bank of his stream. Leith emerged in his human form, hair dripping and tangled with water weeds. He appeared to her, relatively friendly, and managed to entice her toward the stream's edge without her realizing. Taking his chance, he pulled her into the water, drowned the woman and ate her body entirely save for her liver. Unfortunately, by that time word of Leith had spread. The woman's father took the kelpie rumors to heart, and he (along with his eldest son) endeavored to get revenge for his daughter's death. The farmer and his son crafted long pikes with multiple prongs on the end. They then took one of their sheep and placed it a mile from Leith's stream. They put the sheep over a fire until the smell spread. Meanwhile, they hid in the nearby brush.
Unsuspecting of what lay before him, Leith emerged from his stream in his human form, drawn by the smell of roasting meat. He traveled to where the sheep was.
The farmer and his son waited until the sheep had Leith's full attention, and then leapt from the bushes. They drove both pikes into the kelpie, pinning the man-shaped creature to the ground. They left him there, not quite dead, and reatreated to a safe place where they could make sure the kelpie died. He died; albeit slowly. In the morning, all that was left of the kelpie's carcass was a gelatine like, murky green substance on the ground.Personality from baby to adult:Baby - As in infant, Leith really doesn't differ from other newborns much. He cries, he kicks, he makes messes, spits up -- that sort of thing. He does, however, enjoy water and getting baths. Also, he has a tendency to bite when it's least expected.Toddler - With toddlerdom comes a rise of interest with various things. For one, Leith's personality is actually starting to emerge. He's developed a rather large liking for eating meat, and has taken multiple attempts at his own guardian's fingers. Luckily, he seems to be learning that he's not allowed to bite fingers off, and finds himself satisfied with the food on his plate. He's also somewhat curious, though not to an overwhelming extent. He still enjoys water, though as of yet his guardian won't let him sit in anything deeper than a few inches of bath water.Child - Leith is a generally pleasant child -- in that faintly manipulative sort of way. He definitely knows how to press specific buttons, or at least has a vague idea where those 'buttons' might be and how to get at them. He's remarkably good at getting away with things -- though, that probably has something to do with his guardian too... He is definitely capable of being cute and cuddly on a regular basis, but for the most part it's meant to get him something. If he doesn't get what he wants, he doesn't throw fits. He just goes back and regroups; replans. He doesn't have much of an exploring nature, and tends to stay close to the house and the surrounding yard. Granted, it's a large yard, but he's content with the designated space. He has learned to swim, and enjoys the water like a fish. Unfortunately, he has a tendancy to be somewhat difficult to spot in water, no matter how clear it is... -- he also has developed a habit of following girls about, if that means anything.Teenager - One word: hormones. Leith has a tendency to go after anything vaguely humanoid. Whether it's because he finds them attractive or as a potential food source, however, is a completely different matter. Heck, sometimes he might not even be sure which it is. He is, in the basic sense, an extrovert with his own private agenda. While he's not entirely sure what that agenda actually is, he is aware of the fact that he's looking out for 'number one.' He's developed a selfish streak (or has it just noticeably blossomed?) that tends to under cut most of his actions, however kind they might seem at first glance. While he is outgoing, he's not exactly loud, nor does he particularly enjoy being the center of attention. Rather, he's chatty when he likes, but tends to pick off those on the edge of the proverbial circle (for the most part figuratively). He's developed a decided affinity for a small river cutting through the back of the house's property, and has begun to stray from the house in favor of it's banks, especially during his occasional, but obligatory, angsty teen moods -- because every teenager needs an angst nest for 'thinking about things.'
Species wise, Leith's Kelpie blood is beginning to long for the bridle from his past life. The bridle holds the key to a Kelpie's shapeshifting power. Before Leith can shapeshift into his horse form, he must first obtain the fae bridle.Youth - Having found out about his past life and most likely obtaining the enchanted bridle, Leith is understandably suddenly a bit wary of things 'hiding in the bushes.' Having moved from his guardian's house, he's set himself up with a relatively low profile, back wood place where he can enjoy his own privacy when he likes. He does still enjoy the company of people, and in fact prefers it to other companions such as animals, but he's become less trusting and certainly less gullible. He's also become highly territorial. It's sure that if anyone crosses into his so-called domain, he'll either approve and allow them to stay, or -- well. In the mean time, he's turned his attention to keeping his kelpie heritage in check, embracing the shape shifting ability and the magics that might entail which, frankly, aren't many, but he's determined to hone them into to something significant.Adult - What little was left of Leith's childlike personality has at this point been pushed away, the remainder tempered into a sharp point. Outwardly, he's still relatively friendly, if somewhat too determined. He is, however, utterly clever and rather malignant when he gets down to it. While he doesn't particularly have a 'personal goal,' he isn't exactly looking out for anyone else either. He does what seems right by him at the time, and if that means drowning a few loose ends then so be it. Still territorial and somewhat aggressive when he deems it necessary, Leith has become cunning in his adulthood. In short, although he still appears relatively friendly, he's definitely a pair of sharp teeth just beneath the water's edge.Hair Color: BlackEye Color: Green-greyGeneral physical description:Baby - Leith is a baby! So far as his skin tone is concerned, he's relatively 'naturally tan.' He's definitely not pale, to say the least. Hair wise, there isn't much but a bit of dark peach fuzz and a few token wisps about his ears and the nape of his little watermelon head. He has very large eyes and eyelashes, possibly a reflection the horse-like side of the kelpie. However, they're a decidedly washed out gray color rather than the deep chocolate brown of most horses. Clothing wise, Leith rolls around in whatever it is Tovar can manage to stuff him in. Oddly, though, Leith tends to stay incredibly wet after bath time. Towels don't seem to work very well on him, particularly his hair.Toddler - At this stage, Leith's hair is getting long. It's dark, fine and curly, like that of a young foal. His hair does seem to be faintly damp to the touch, though. His eyes have darkened, but not remarkably so. They have, however, taken on a decided murky-green tint to the grey. He still looks the part of a highly innocent child with his large eyes and long eyelashes. The only marked contrast to this appearance are his teeth. They seem to have grown slightly...pointy and sharp. Additionally, he's learned how to escape most of Tovar's clothing tactics, and has a tendency to toddle around as close to naked as possible.Child - As a child, Leith's eyes have darkened slightly more but still not significantly. More likely than not, they intend to stay that way. His hair has gotten longer, hanging in lank curly around his ears and across his forehead. Had they been dry, they might have been shorter, but Leith can't seem to keep it anything but slightly damp. He's also gotten into the habit of catching things in it, be it grass, twigs, or some assortment of animal life other foliage. He's definitely on track with the boy regimen of height, but isn't anywhere remotely close to 'above average.' Leith has finally willingly taken up the habit of wearing pants, but he still runs about barefoot and shirtless whenever he's allowed. If he must wear clothes, he tends to cling to light weight, breathable fabrics. He also seems to favor blues, browns and greens, as if somewhat conscious of the fact that he should be blending in with nature.Teenager - As a teenager, Leith's hair has lost some of it's childlike curliness. Rather, it's beginning to hang straighter, framing his face in a somewhat damp and drippy way. Apparently not too concerned with the appearance of his hair, there still is usually something caught in it, but at least not to the extent that his hair was being nested in as a child. He's also begun pushing most of it over to one side of his head, faintly reminiscent of a horse's mane. His face has gained a few more planes, dropping a majority of the rounded infantile quality to his face. With sharp cheekbones and slightly long in the jaw, he's decent enough looking but certainly not pretty. If anything, he's developing the sharp angles of a striking face rather than the appearance of someone out right attractive. Of average height for his age, he's filled out in the shoulder a bit. His limbs still have a bit of catching up to do, though. Heavily tanned from the outdoors, he's taken to wearing a shirt, but is still a bit annoyed with shoes. Besides, at this point, his feet are tough enough to go wandering without them, so why bother?
In his horse shape, should he find the fae bridle by this time, is a relatively small, black horse that shares the quality of a slightly damp appearance. Leggy and coltish, Leith's horse appearance is just as awkward limbed as he himself is. As in his human shape, the horse shares that same sharp teeth rather than the flat incisors of a normal horse. He can not be in his horse form without wearing the bridle.Youth - With the same hair and eye color as he had when he was a teenager, Leith appears much the same. His hair style remains much the same, however the left side of his hair has been combed to behind his shoulder, while the right side hangs loose across the side of his face and in front of his shoulder. He's filled out in the chest and his face has reached the peak of it's faintly horsey length and sharp angles. He has a smiling mouth and bright, inquisitive eyes. Leith's skin is decidedly dark, nearing a comfortable olive brown complexion from the combined efforts of the sun and his natural tone. Additionally, while he did experience the usual growth spurt for male children, he's still only on the low side of average height. It doesn't bother him. He wears loose shirts made a lightweight fabric, accompanied by heavy trousers that tend to come a bit too short on his leg.
Horse shape wise, Leith's lost the gangliness to his form and looks more like an adult horse than anything. He's still on the small side when it comes to horses, but that probably won't change remarkably. The bridle is still present. Adult - Leith's hair has actually started to lighten slightly. Call it premature aging, but he's been developing small silver hairs among the nest of black. Also, he's taken the hairstyle of his youth to a final, somewhat drastic state. Rather than combing the left half of his hair back, he's simply cropped it close to his skull. The right side of his hair, however, has grown long down past his shoulder, forming lank locks of hair that look almost permanently water logged, the foremost of which he's taken to braiding. He still smiles, but it's a slightly secret smile that doesn't quite reach the eyes. Still long faced and sharp toothed, for perhaps the first time in his life he could be taken as something slightly...dangerous. His fashion sense hasn't changed, at least not significantly. He still doesn't wear shoes unless it's strictly necessary, and tends to go lounging about in loose clothing. (Rough hair design referenced in the aside image, due to the fact that I'm sure my wording on that whole thing was really, really horrible.)
Horse wise, the mane of this form shares the streaks of grey. Additionally, it seems to be had developed a few sinister looking dapples on it's rump and legs. Again, the bridle is still present and necessary for Leith's shapeshifting.Distinctive Traits: In both his human and horse form, Leith appears somewhat damp, particularly around his hair and feet. This is the distinctive trait of all kelpies, and most often the only way one can be distinguished from a normal horse and a human. As a horse, Leith must wear an enchanted bridle which holds a Kelpie's ability to shapeshift.Likes: Running water, meat for consumption (cooked or raw), human company, 'his' stream.Dislikes: Vegetables and grains, being far from water, fathers, pollution, trespassers, the color neon green.Hobbies: Seducing and tricking people, romping about, making a nuisance of himself.

This part of the thread is here to offer a bit of information on Kelpies. They're easily my favorite mythical creature, so look! This gets it's very own post, rather than being tacked on the bottom of the above post!.:-----------------------------------------:. Kelpies are creatures originating from the fae realm, which is to say they're of the same general stock as your run of the mill faeries and pixies. Kelpie myths are found in folklore across Europe, the most infamous being Scottish and Irish. They are closely related to the Each Uisge.
Kelpies can appear in one of two forms: either than of a small horse or pony, or of a human (male or female, depending on the sex of the Kelpie). In horse form, Kelpies can either be a sea foam green color or black. They always have black manes and tails. In horse form, Kelpies look rather like a normal, friendly horse might, with the exception that they generally have very sharp teeth used for tearing meat. In their humanoid forms, Kelpies often have either wet feet, damp hair or both. Sometimes they also have water weeds tangled in their hair.
Unlike horses, Kelpies subsist on a diet of meat. While they will eat sheep or cattle, they prefer the meat of humans if they can get it. Because of this, they often try to trick humans. Usually, they will appear in their horse form to a weary traveller who happens close to the Kelpie's watery home. The Kelpie then attempts to pass themselves off as a friendly, docile riding mount. When the human mounts, however, the Kelpie's demeanor shifts abruptly. The rider will find that it cannot get off the Kelpie. With it's victim safely seated, the Kelpie will plunge into the nearby water and drown it's rider. Once drowned, the Kelpie eats everything save the liver of the corpse.
Common misconceptions about Kelpies revolve on where exactly they live. Kelpies inhabit streams and rivers, smaller bodies of moving water. Their cousins, the Each Uisge, are the malignant fae shapeshifters that live in lochs and oceans. Both are very dangerous, but the Kelpie to a lesser extent. While it is rare to survive an encounter with a Kelpie, it is even more so with an Each Uisge.
Kelpies are also one of the few magical creatures that can not reproduce with another of it's own kind. Kelpies must breed with a human (or something close to it, anyway) in order to have offspring.
The Kelpie's shapeshifting power is said to lie in the bridle it wears. Anyone who could possess such a bridle or steal a bridle from a Kelpie could force the Kelpie to submit to his or her own will. While an subjugated Kelpie was a coveted prize (due to the fact that a Kelpie is as strong as ten horses, and has amazing endurance), it was also dangerous to keep one for long. A captive Kelpie is always searching for a way to free itself again. If used as a riding mount, a captive Kelpie must be kept from any running water source. If they smell fresh water streams, the Kelpie will take off and drown it's so called 'owner.'

This section is where a bit about Leith's family will be written..:-----------------------------------------:. Name: TovarGender: MaleSpecies: HumanAge: 26General Information: Tovar is a low grade magician (or wizard, or sorcerer -- whatever it is they're calling it nowadays). Technically speaking, he's still an apprentice to a more skilled magician named Michael. Tovar lives in Michael's house, cleans Michael's mess and generally runs thing while Michael lounges around the house and looks impressive. Tovar gets more than a little exasperated with the man on occassion, but for the most part he puts up with the older man's habitual laziness. So long as Michael occassionally teaches him something, Tovar doesn't much mind that man's habits.
Technically, Tovar intends to finish his apprenticeship in the coming year, but the way things are doing it's likely he'll probably be stuck with Michael for a while yet. Even so, it's doubtful that Tovar would actually leave Michael on his own. After so many years of letting his apprentice take care of everything from grocery shopping to the book keeping, Tovar's a bit paranoid that Michael would shrivel up and die without him bustling about. In the very least, the magician would probably end up getting crushed by his own cluture of knick knacks and books.
(A Quick Note: Tovar and Michael are not romantically involved; Tovar generally has miniature coronaries when it's suggested and Michael thinks it's hillarious.)Personality and Appearance: Tovar generally has a level head on his shoulders -- he's got to, after putting up with Michael for so long. His temper is on a magnificently long fuse, and he generally puts up with most shinnanigans. He does worry a bit, though, and is prone to some squawking and complaining when he thinks no one's about to hear it. Then again, he has been Michael's apprentice for nearly eight years; he's sort of earned a right to his occassional griping.
Tovar's a bit clueless when it comes to relationships outside of making sure Michael doesn't kill himself or put them both into bankruptcy, due to the fact that save for his mother and his sister he hasn't exactly had much contact with other people -- much less this whole 'girlfriend' thing. He's awkward around children and somewhat over estimates their problem solving abilities due to the fact that he's been rather naturally clever for as long as he could remember.
Appearance wise, Tovar is a touch short, built solid across the shoulder but wiry rather than barrel chested. He's got a slightly crooked nose and a tentatively worried scowl perpetually touched across his features. He's tan from spending time outdoors trying not to blow the house up with his slight ineptitude with more powerful spells, and from working in the cottage's garden. Lastly, his hair's a sandy blonde color, and generally sticks out in odd directions because he forgets to brush it much. Tovar wears sensible clothing in the form of slacks and sweaters. He had a tendancy to wear multiple layers, most of them colored dully..:-----------------------------------------:. Name: MichaelGender: MaleSpecies: HumanAge: 30General Information: Michael is a magician that is regarded by most people as more than a little weird. While he is a touch eccentric and has a nasty sense of humor, he really just is a very private person when it comes to his own affairs. While he's likely to stick his nose in everyone else's business, he's quiet about himself. Before he took Tovar as his apprentice, he was more than a bit of a hermit and a recluse. His anti-social tendancies predominantly derives from the fact that his body is, physically, very weak. While Michael is a rather powerful magician, over the years his body began to weaken under the strain of channeling magic flows. As such, his bones have become incredibly brittle so he generally avoids going about much because he doesn't want to crack a rib or accidentally break his legs.Personality and Appearance: Michael has a nasty sense of a humor and a fine handle on sarcasm. Tovar swears it's him getting senile in his middle age, but really Michael's been a bit strange for a while. He's rather superstitious when it suits him, and utterly sensible at other times -- a habit which generally leaves poor Tovar utterly confused. Though generally good humored (in that...weird way...), Michael does have a habit of brooding every now and then. While not exactly reliable as far as a teaching schedule goes, when he does sit down to instruct Tovar he does a good job at it.
Michael is incredibly messy. As it is, the house remains in a constant state of intense clutter, even with Tovar's painstaking attempts at keeping it decent. For the most part, Michael manages to build ginormous piles of books and so forth, and it's all his apprentice can do to keep functioning paths running through the mess and around the house.
Michael is tall and thin, easily described as 'stork-like.' He has shoulder length hair that was once a nice black color but has degenerated into salt and pepper gray due to excessive magic use. He keeps it pulled back in a silver clasp. Clothing wise, Michael wears somewhat ridiculously opulent clothing. He finds the bright patterns and garish colors amusing.
