Silken Snare (12) : Destiny City has an extensive history with problematic arachnids, and 2025 is not the year to shake that up. Large, sticky webs have appeared all over the city. Maybe it is a silly prank like the papers say, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it’s all fun and games when you’re stuck to the near-invisible net strung low to the ground or tucked away along alleys or pathways. They can trap anyone who even just brushes against them. It’s possible to be stuck in one for hours. The more you struggle, the more the threads tighten, clinging like a cocoon and it feels like being swallowed whole. If you listen carefully while caught, you might hear something moving above you. You might even feel something heavy dip onto the web next to you, chattering ominously. You never see it, but that in itself is a mercy. Something will always chase it away. Eventually, the strings will lose elasticity and you may be able to free yourself if someone isn’t able to rescue you–they just need to make sure they don’t get trapped, too. The threads can leave behind deep lines and bruises, so be happy that’s the worst you walked away with.

A street rat. Several actually. Were they gnawing on bricks? Lowering her binoculars, Hestia gave that particularly alleyway a look of deep dismay. This city was truly in shambles lately. "Nothing on this block," she intoned to her night's partner, Borax. She especially liked patrolling with him during holidays, always in hope that one of the seasonal abnormalities would take a shine to the man and leave him in increasingly embarrassing situations.

It didn't happen nearly enough, but never let it be said that Eternal Hestia wasn't an optimist!

Tonight they had another purpose, though. There was several newer members to the team, and more veteran ones that simply were...a little soft. Members who could use a little...safe torture. As a team! To build up some familiarity with both each other, and the situations they may find themselves in. And what better way to do so than to find more of those obnoxious dice that loved to abduct people each autumn?

Getting close enough to be within in reach of the things wouldn't do though. So searching out a decent grouping of them at a safe distance, then calling in team members was the plan. A plan that had yet to bear fruit, but again. Optimist!

Bringing the binoculars back up she intoned, "I've noticed that Tincalconite remains at a basic level. Are you properly supporting his needs as a senshi?" Though what she really wanted to grill him on was why Faustite seemed already familiar with him. But she wasn't sure what she would do if it turned out Borax had bullied or exploited the difference in rank and power, so Tincalconite was a safer subject to both inquire about and also be somewhat unpleasant to Borax over.

"Cute," intoned Borax, dryly. "He's a busy ******** with that EMT job. And the paramedic degree. I pull him out for patrols when he's able." And when Borax decided Tincalconite was patrolling whether he liked it or not. After all, the fact that Tincalconite was still a basic level senshi wasn't necessarily the best reflection on him, and he knew that. If he was going to keep getting praise for his recruiting, he needed to show that his recruits were not just there to take up air.

Not that it particularly mattered when it seemed their magic teetered on infinite.

As she was looking through her binoculars to keep a fair and logical distance, Borax used his eyes to squint down the alleyway that Hestia had first noticed. The rats didn't surprise him. They lived in a gigantic city. Of course there were ******** rats.

He'd be more surprised if there weren't rats.

What really caught his attention, in the end, was what looked like a small glistening movement. He had seen a few interesting things while he was doing his own frequent solo patrols, including seeing a few people strung up in their own fascinating attempts to escape youma by interpretative dance. Of course, had that been a youma?

Borax didn't know. Adam had always known this city was a bizarre anomaly.

"I aim to submit him for promotion soon, though. Helping out with Albite has been a task all of its own." Borax lifted a brow over at Hestia. "Did Albite tell you he reached out to Tincalconite multiple times even before the eye loss?"

She made a face at the term cute and turned away.

Having still not found any dice, Hestia was torn between manfully stating No dice, and worrying that it would seem to be making a pun of sorts, which was an activity she tried to avoid outside of clever packaging design. And yet, still, there were in fact no dice.

She was about to offer the possibility that Tincalconite might need to placed in more situations where the need for more power was truly felt, but then Eternal Albite was mentioned, halting that thought on its tracks to abruptly that the train tipped over.

"Oh," she asked, clearly startled and distracted as they walked, "...for medical help?"

Hestia hadn't been expecting that response. Good, perhaps. Let him keep a bit of an edge and a pull away from her snarking on his chosen leadership style. "Of a sorts." Borax pinched his nose. "For one, Albite called Tincalconite first when he started a ******** building fire."

Borax had managed to figure out why Albite had done that. The fire originated at least near where Cryolite's apartment was. Whether that be because he was angry or because he was trying to cover tracks, Borax couldn't quite land the answer to. Considering who they were talking about, it could have been both.

Unfortunately.

"Which does require medical assistance for people not him, though," he trailed off, leaving the obvious statements about one of his better allies in this magical war left up to the imagination. As he let Hestia conclude what she may, Borax glanced around, looking for more dice. There were indeed no dice, but something else did catch his attention.

He saw that glisten again, this time a bit closer. A bit more accessible.

A building fire was it? Well, that was a reasonable result for his summer activities. Tincalconite wasn't a bad choice of first call in that circumstance, either. The spike of concern mellowed out to it's normal level of hill country when it came to Eternal Albite. Borax had clearly been trying to alarm her. And had succeeded. With a small huff she smoothed out a non existent wrinkle from her apron.

In a huff she moved ahead of Borax, stalking forward until she abruptly stopped, peering down at the ground where there was...broken glass.

Once again, no dice.

"And what have you been doing to assist Eternal Albite?" In her irritation, the maid senshi's tone took on a tone more along the lines of interrogation rather than simply touching base.

As she found herself pouring over glass, Borax found himself looking around in the environment. There really was nothing of interest here. At this rate, they were going to have to find another enrichment exercise.

... Which he could do, but by the same.e token, he knew the horrors that hid behind the dice. It would be the perfect way to train them against the legitimate horrors of the White Moon or whatever that s**t was in the sky.

Or whatever that shiny thread he saw reflecting in the glass was.

Idly, he walked closer to her.

And it.

Hestia wouldn't notice his small push.

"I've been helping Albite by being the person he calls. He tells me to help him unwind." His tone was casual to override her attention to his actions. "He calls me for ... Release."
