2025 Star Festival Prompt
The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn't be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it's incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it's just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there's something undeniably magical about it.

Laughing, Roka walked with Jackson to the top of a grassy hill in one of the parks decorated for the Star Festival. The top of that hill had a view that overlooked a large part of Destiny City, revealing glittering lights of towering skyscrapers woven around by rivers of traffic with gleaming beams of red and white. Roka, however, must have been a little sugar high on sweets, because he flopped on the grass a little too close to the steeper incline of the hill and started rolling down it. Whether or not he meant to was anyone’s guess, but by the sound of his laughter as he rolled, he seemed to enjoy the journey regardless.

Once he reached the bottom, he turned so he was lying face up, panting and grinning as he stared at the sky. From the bottom of the hill, the city was completely obscured by the park and the sounds of the city were muffled. It made the meteor shower much easier to see than before when the city’s light pollution had been more of a problem.

“Jackson!” Roka called, eyes sparkling with the falling stars reflected in them. “Come down here with me!” He patted the patch of grass beside him happily. “You’ve got to see this! There’s a meteor shower and it’s gorgeous! Ow!”

Glancing down, the silver-haired young man reached under him and pulled out a Crimson Star Charm that had been stabbing one of his points into his side. Frowning at it, he pulled back the arm holding it as if he planned to throw it as far as he could, but after a moment, his sugar-addled mind calmed a bit and he placed the charm in his pocket.

Then, lying flat on his back once more, he waved his arms and legs as if trying to make a snow angel, but without snow. Perhaps a grass angel, since the grass blades depressed where he pressed them down, creating 'wings' behind him. Doing that a couple of times, it wasn't long before his hand knocked into another star charm which he quickly snatched up.

If Jackson had come to his side by then as he'd called him to do, Roka would have smiled and held up his hand to offer the second charm to Jackson if he wanted it. "There are so many of these things, but they're nice to collect, aren't they?" he asked, his gaze fond. "And give to others as gifts. They make great gifts, especially with so many different colors."

Once Jackson had or hadn't taken the charm, Roka would have dropped his arm back against the grass once more and closed his eyes with a sigh.

"I'm sorry you have to...see me like this," he mumbled without opening his eyes. "I shouldn't have had so many sweets. But that ice cream float! I haven't had one in ages!" Though his eyes remained closed, another happy smile curved his lips. "This is nice. We should just stay here. Forever," Roka said, yawning.

Jackson chuckled as Roka excitedly climbed the hill, flopped down, and then promptly rolled down the hill.

The Roka he had gotten to know the past couple of days they had spent time together at the Star Festival was so different from what he had expected when he was first approached the elusive young man. He tried to tell himself that this was just Roka out of school and relaxed and this behavior had nothing to do with Jackson. Ugh, but it was hard he shouted his name like that.

Jackson picked his way down the hill, intentionally letting himself slide down the grass in a few places until he had met up with Roka at the bottom and he laughed again as Roka splayed his arms and legs, making angel wing impression in the grass and bringing another spark of affection to Jackson's chest as he thought, not for the first time that day, that Roka belonged in paintings. It made Jackson's fingers itch.

When Jackson reached the bottom of the hill and was able to walk comfortably again, he leaned over the other man, unable to keep another small chuckle and a smile in, folding himself into an 'L' at the waist so that they were more or less looking at each other face to face, but upside down depending on whose perspective you were talking about. "Are you ok?" The darker man asked, unclear if he was talking about the roll down the hill or the sugar high the sliver haired man was clearly on. Jackson had, admittedly, thought to advise the other man to slow down on the snacks, but the more he ate, the more open and, really, cuter he got, so Jackson had kept his mouth shut and just enjoyed the other man's mood. It hadn't escaped his notice how decently self-conscious Roka seemed to be and, while Jackson found that rather cute as well, this slightly more carefree Roka was, well, sweet.

He reached down and gingerly took the opal star charm from Roka's fingers with a gentle smile. "They are everywhere aren't they. I wonder how they got spread all over the city, and how many colors there are. I've found about eight different colors now."

Jackson laughed once more when Roka apologized for his sugar high as he sat and then laid down beside Roka. "I don't mind. It's kind of cute. He said before he thought it through, then cleared his throat, blush spreading across the bridge of his nose. "I mean fun. It's nice to see you so relaxed. He said, throwing his own arm over his face to hide it further in the crook of his elbow. Sugar high or not, it was far too easy to talk to Roka. Jackson generally found his filter working less and less well the more time he spent with the man.

After a moment, when his face didn't feel so hot, he laid his arm down on the grass and turned his head to face the yawning man with another amused smile. "It's actually rather nice down here." He said, pushing his bangs up over his face as the motion of his head had caused them to fall and completely obscure his vision. The bangs obediently stayed splayed out over the top of his head, so Roka would get a decent view of his entire face and the cloudy blue eye that he usually kept hidden behind his bangs. It wasn't an intended effect, he'd just been trying to be able to see the other man, but there it was. Jackson mostly hid it because it seemed to unnerve people and for a moment, he wondered what Roka would say but tried to wave the thought away. If the other man found it unnerving as well, there wasn't really anything Jackson could do about it.

"Do you like ice cream floats in particular, or most sweets?" He asked, trying to focus on something else to talk to him about, rather than the vision of Roka with shooting stars flying around him.

”Maybe they fell from the sky like the ones in the meteor shower,” Roka giggled in response to Jackson’s question about how the star charms got spread all over the city. But then his eyes popped open at the mention of how many star charm colors Jackson had obtained by then. “Eight?!” he cried in shock. “That’s…that’s even more colors than the rainbow has!”

When Jackson lay down beside him, he seemed to relax even more, glad Jackson didn’t think him weird for suggesting it. He couldn’t help but blush at being told his behavior was kind of cute and shook his head vehemently. “It’s not cute. I need to be a better role model as the family head and fulfill my duties and…stuff…” He paused when he realized he must have not been making much sense to the black-haired young man next to him. But when he looked over at him, he realized with surprise that the noiret had hidden his face in the crook of his arm. “Jackson? Are you okay…?” He sat up and leaned over to peer at him in concern.

In a second, though, his peer had put his arm down again and turned toward him with a smile, so Roka smiled back and lay down once again himself. “Isn’t it?” he asked softly, gazing up at the falling stars…and sneaking a peek at his companion out the corner of his eye when he got the chance. It was so tempting to…just…he was right there…

The view of his full face without his bangs in the way caused the silver-haired college student to stare for a few seconds before realizing he was being rude and looking back upward again. He wanted to ask so badly about his eye. He was dying to ask. But that would have been rude if Jackson hadn’t volunteered the information himself. Wouldn’t it have…?

He was still thinking about Jackson’s face and his curiously milky eye when he was asked another question. For a while, Roka was silent, as if he hadn’t heard. Then, he pushed himself up a little again - enough to lean over to hover over Jackson, his long hair draping like a curtain around them both on either sides of their faces, obscuring their vision of the outside world.

“I like ice cream floats the most,” he said with a half-lidded stare, reaching up to run his fingers through the black bangs that normally covered Jackson’s eye and had been smoothed back upward. With his own bangs having draped down along with the rest of his hair, both his and Jackson’s eyes were in full view to both of them for once. “But that might change if you taste even sweeter.”

Closing his eyes, he leaned down in an attempt to kiss Jackson on the mouth.

Jackson chuckled at Roka's exclamation about there being more charm colors than the rainbow. Maybe there were even more. It was kind of hard to tell, since they did seem to fall from the sky and be anywhere.

" I like this one the most though." He said, dangling the charm that Roka had just given him, and quirking the corner of his mouth impishly. He really did like the color the most out of the ones he'd found, but this one had also come from Roka and would forever remind him of the giggling boy on the grass, surrounded by meteors.

When Jackson asked about his dessert preferences, Roka seemed to think deeply about it, which, of course, was cute also. Jackson tried not to roll his eyes at himself. He was falling way too hard, way too fast for this person. It was ridiculous. Maybe he'd already developed a crush long before talking to the man, and hanging out with him had maybe just made it worse, but these notions were far too much.

Jackson turned to look up at the falling sky again as Roka pondered, and he hoped that the night would hide the blush returning to his face.

Before he could think too much more on his feelings, Roka's face obscured the light show above him, and his soft, silver hair fell down to obscure the lights around them, caressing his forehead and cheeks as it came down around him. Jackson's heart was hammering so loud all of a sudden that he almost missed the smaller man's words.

~He's so close. Too close.~ Jackson thought in a small panic before the soft words really processed and Roka moved closer. He swallowed hard as Roka's flirtatious words hit him right in the chest, and his face flushed even more.

"R-Roka, are y-" ou sure? He started to say, but soft lips cut him off. Jackson tried to convince himself that Roka wasn't in his right mind, that he was on a sugar high and not thinking clearly, it wasn't any different than alcohol.....

But he could still taste the ice cream and soda on the other man's lips, and they were as soft as ice cream, too, and Jackson couldn't help but slip a hand into soft, silver hair and pull him deeper into the kiss as he closed his eyes.

Maybe Roka would regret this in a minute, but it was so nice for right now. Jackson could say sorry when it was over.

Evidently it paid to take risks sometimes, though this was not something Roka usually found to be true when it came to the risks he took. He frantically tried to remind himself of that when he steeled himself to do what he’d been daydreaming (and probably also night dreaming) of for a while by then, but it was no good. His stubborn brain had already made up its mind and, fueled by whatever temporary courage or energy what-have-you from his sugar high, he surged forward with a rush of adrenaline and went in for the kiss.

He had been about 75% ready to be rejected or at least stopped, and it almost did get there as he heard Jackson start to say something, but by then, it was too late. His urges had taken over his rationally-thinking mind because he knew what he wanted right then and there and if it ended up having been stolen, he could pay for it later, however high that price ended up being.

A split second after he’d had that thought, he realized how horrible it was. He would have kissed someone without their consent?! No matter what state he was in, there was no excuse for that kind of behavior. He was about to jerk back, horrified by his own absence of mind before he felt a hand slip into his hair and pull him deeper into ecstatic bliss. Was he…was he really being kissed back?

He kissed as long and deeply as he could before being forced to come up for air, at which point he pulled himself up off of Jackson and blinked at him steadily, trying to assess what state of mind he was in just then. Was he angry with him, or at least upset?

“I’m…sorry,” he found himself saying, tucking a lock of hair behind his reddened ear. “That was…very forward of me. And I…I cut you off. What...what were you saying?” He spoke slowly, as if trying to yank himself out of a dream.

Jackson breathed in and hummed as Roka pulled away, opening his eyes slowly to meet the green ones above him. He lightly twirled a lock of Roka's hair around his index finger and let it slide through his fingers as he slowly dropped his hand. Frankly, he was a little bit dizzy and slightly overwhelmed. Roka was just... surprising him all over the place.

"Um..." He started lamely, smirking a little in amusement even as his cheeks remained red. "I was asking if you were sure about what you were about to do, you seem," He caught his breath again, as his heart was still beating a little too fast for his lungs to keep up and his brain was still trying to catch up to the game, so to speak. He chuckled. "well, more forward than expected, but that question seems to be a little moot. Are you ok?" He finished, restraining himself from caressing Roka's cheek. Even though Roka didn't seem to immediately regret it, Jackson was pretty sure he would any minute. Caught up in the festival and the sugar and the moment was understandable.

Roka was blushing as if it hadn’t been his idea to go in for the kill after only a few days of getting to know Jackson. The way Jackson played with a lock of his hair caused his whole body to rise in temperature and he wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d become red as a cooked lobster all over. At least it seemed Jackson was a little flustered himself and not exactly upset if that smirk was any indication, but Roka was waiting for him to come back down to the reality of what they’d just done. Was this really okay?

Then again, Jackson probably kissed a new pair of lips every week for all Roka knew. It…didn’t seem like it from his reaction to being kissed, but who could be sure? Not him. Why did he have to look and act so cute though?!

“Y-yeah,” he breathed finally once his thoughts finally caught up to everything Jackson said. He was touched by the question of if he was okay when he had been the one to…to… “Are you okay, being attacked like that out of nowhere? I’m not normally that desperate, I swear,” he said before realizing that made him sound even more desperate. “It’s just…I…these last few days have been really nice with you and I…” His voice seemed to get smaller and smaller the more he spoke and he reached up to tug on his bangs as his nervous habit. “...I couldn’t help myself.”

Laaaaame.

Jackson smirked, biting his lower lip slightly in amusement as Roka blushed furiously. Apparently his courage was used up for the moment at least, but Jackson felt slightly electric as Roka clearly wasn't exactly regretting his actions. He reached up, a little on instinct, a little just because he wanted to touch Roka's cute little bashful face, and ran a knuckle from the bridge of Roka's nose to the tip before putting it back on the grass once more.

"I wouldn’t exactly call that an attack. Do you kiss everyone you have a nice day with?" He teased.

He was going to faint. He was going to faint right there in the park if Jackson kept playing with him like that. What was with that stroking of his nose with his knuckle? Roka felt like a cat wanting to lean into his touch more and found himself unconsciously doing so, closing his eyes so he could concentrate on the feel of Jackson’s skin against his own and ignore everything else. It was such an innocent little gesture, but so…affectionate.

God, Jackson already practically had him eating out of the palm of his hand, wrapped around his little finger. Well…after a few too many failed relationships for Roka’s liking, he wasn’t really worried about that anymore. What was the worst that could happen? That he would get used and then tossed aside like a toy someone was bored of?

Yes, a voice in his head told him urgently. And just because you’ve felt it before doesn’t make it any easier to take the second time. Or the third, probably. Each time you feel like your life is over and that you’ll never love anyone again. Remember?! You have to remember!

But it was no use. Roka had fallen and he had fallen hard and there was nothing to be done for it now.

“No,” he answered Jackson in a small voice. “I just…really really really like you, Jackson…you’re kind and smart and ambitious and confident and cute and…augh, you’re probably sick of hearing all these platitudes from everyone else,” he groaned, turning away as he buried his face in his hands. “I didn’t even ask if you’re seeing anyone currently!”

Dammit, could he have just made Jackson into a cheater? He had to find out and apologize immediately!

For a moment, he was mesmerized by Roka’s reaction to Jackson touching his face. How could someone be this beautiful? Graceful and light. He blinked in slight surprise when the man’s eyes popped open and he spoke.

Jackson bit his lip again and swallowed hard as his heart leaped into his throat at Roka's confession. Had Roka had a crush before all this, too? Was that why he'd been so excited to see him and talk to him the other day? He tried to not hope that this could go somewhere, even as Roka continued to squirm cutely in embarrassment at his actions. His experience was that he was maybe crush material, whispers in the hallways about cool and attractive material, but never dating material. He just, maybe selfishly, wanted to enjoy this moment like a dream he would wake up from in the morning.

He chuckled at Roka's description of him. "What everyone else do you think you're talking about?" He asked, unable to keep the teasing tone out of his voice as he reached up and pulled Roka's hands from his face with one hand and used the other to cup his cheek and turn it back to look at him.

It was admittedly amusing to hear Roka's version of him. What he generally heard from "everyone" is that he was too quiet, creepy, dark. He was polite and hard working enough to be generally likeable enough for group projects, even being outright asked to join a group because they knew they would get a good grade with him on their team, but those people had no interest in friendships and his students similarly came to him for his skill, knowledge, and his kind and patient style of teaching, not his personality.

"If I had someone else, I wouldn't be here." He assured, gently rubbing his thumb on the soft cheek. Everything about Roka was so soft. His hair, his face, his voice. "Am I sweeter after all?" He couldn't help but ask, tease again.

”...The ‘everyone else’ you probably avoid because you’re sick of hearing them tell you the same things over and over,” Roka replied gloomily, feeling worse about what he’d said than ever. Was this why Jackson only seemed to be around people at college? Because he was too popular and he valued his alone time away from his adoring fans like any other celebrity? It would have made perfect sense. Maybe that was why Roka felt so star-struck by him. For all he knew, he was some celebrity in disguise trying to avoid the public eye.

Before he had time to say another word, however, Jackson had taken Roka’s hands from his face and cupped his burning cheek with a disarming tenderness the silver-haired man wanted to treasure forever. His warm skin grew even hotter as he listened to Jackson respond, almost too lulled by the cadence of his voice to even properly be able to comprehend the words he was speaking. Almost.

“I…I can’t remember,” Roka replied to the question posed to him, clearly flustered by the callback to his own words. “May I…try I again so I can tell?” he asked, the way he peered sideways at Jackson a little too shy to be innocent.

~Cuuute.~ Jackson thought as Roka's expression turned slightly sour at Jackson's teasing. He almost kept going. If Roka thought he had fans, then Roka must have people falling at his feet, or just crowds admiring him from affair like Jackson had been. But he didn't want to make the man under his hand actually upset.

Jackson chuckled at Roka's adorable, shy, impish expression. He could already tell that this man was going to be the end of him, if this lasted only for tonight or for 50 years.

"You are a trap." He said, bringing his other hand up to thread back into Roka's soft hair and bring him closer. "An adorable little trap." He whispered against the other man's lips before he connected them again, humming in satisfaction.

The silver-haired man looked taken aback by Jackson’s accusation.

You’re the trap. I know because I’ve already fallen for you,” he huffed, trying and failing to sound less flustered than he really was. “So I hope you’re ready to take responsibility, because I don’t think I’ll be free of you any time soon.”

Blushing harder than ever, he closed his eyes again as Jackson pulled him closer for another kiss, thanking his lucky stars and the entirety of the meteor shower above them that his wish had come true.
